Overview
Gold Rush Cabin was inspired by the simple dwellings on the frontier of the American west. The setup is on the wild side of rustic, with an outdoor shower, simple gas hob cooking facilities and paths leading a short way through the dense forest to the toilet, which is an experience in itself. It’s not all frontier life though. The hot tub would never have fit on a covered wagon and the bed is just a bit more comfy than anyone in the actual gold rush was sleeping on. The whole thing comes together to give you a change from your normal life that draws you gently back into nature.
Gold Rush Cabin’s home, Westley Farm, is a diverse wildlife habitat, carefully tended under the Higher Level Stewardship scheme. Just sitting on the deck with the sounds of the woodland around you is a relaxing way to spend a few days, but even if you only take on the 20-minute walk to the terrace of The Crown Inn, it’s worth exploring the Cotswolds. Further afield are the adventures of Cotswold Water Park, gentler pastimes at Slimbridge Wetlands or the chance to learn the grisly history of Berkeley Castle.

Meet Ali & Dan
Ali and Dan bought Westley Farm in 2017, having spent years searching for the most beautiful place to live with their family while being close to nature and far away from just about everything else. The previous owners set up the 16-foot Sapperton Yurt and after a break of a couple of years Ali and Dan have decided to bring the site back to life, infusing it with their own sense of style and adventure.
In 2018, they added Gold Rush Cabin to Westley Farm, inspired by their time living in the American West and stories of the crazyhearts and dreamers who sped west in search of gold. The result is a little piece of Americana in the heart of the Cotswolds.
In 2019, they added another space, the Zen Den to Westley Farm, a unique cedar cabin in the woods. A year later, they added Yurt Reynolds, a gorgeous yurt with a cool camp kitchen and a canvas bathhouse.
In 2023, they added the Arcadia to Westley Farm, a stunning cabin tucked away in the woods with a beautiful handmade swing seat for guests to enjoy.
Wildlife & Environment
The woods at Westly Farm are teeming with wildlife and part of the charm of staying is simply walking around the fields and forest. 80 acres of nature on the farm (which is available for guests to explore) is under Natural England Higher Stewardship scheme, so maintained in low impact, species friendly manner.
Everyone there is doing their best to encourage rare butterfly breeds here with the help of Natural England. Though not overly impressive to look at, its success here is important as it only breeds on one other site in Gloucestershire, which happens to be nearby. As part of their Higher Level Stewardship, they commissioned a professional survey of their flora and fauna and discovered, among other things, that they have dormice in the woods. Rabbits are everywhere and the scrub is a refuge for many small mammals, beetles and plenty of nectar for bees and butterflies. You are bound to see deer, buzzards, hawks and bats, and hear the hoot of owls and the bark of foxes. In summer, orchids thrive in the wildflower meadow.

From the days prior to my arrival to my final morning, the attention to detail was phenomenal. Receiving a hand drawn map of the local area, a video detailing exactly how to get to the cabin along with their personal recommendations on what to see and do in the area, the owners of Westley Farm really outdid themselves. Then when I arrived I was absolutely blown away by every element of the Gold Rush Cabin. An incredibly cosy and inviting space made even more special by the small touches that made it a unique and inviting space to stay for a few days. Add to that the quality of hampers I’d ordered that they put together and I really could not give any feedback or tips on what could be done to improve it. No detail was skipped and I’m already planning another stay to try another cabin as they all have their own theme and style!

Gold Rush is set within a naturally wild woodland area which makes for a peaceful escape surrounded by wildlife. From butterflies, to birds, to spotting deer in the surrounding fields and if you're lucky, within the woodland itself. Outdoor living but with a cosy woodfire heated cabin and a woodfired hot tub all to enjoy.

My husband and I stayed at Gold Rush for his 30th birthday to escape for the weekend. We had such a wonderful time here. The cabin was beautifully set up with so many thoughtful additions to make it more comfortable. The hot tub was even filled up so we could use it when we arrived.

We stayed at Gold Rush cabin for our honeymoon. Four nights to get away from it all and relax. And relax I’d what we did. The place was off grid and very peaceful. The cabin was cosy and had all the amenities. I loved the outdoor shower my favourite part.
19/06/2023Emma
Was honestly the best escape. Everything was thought of, the owners were more than accommodating and being British… the weather was in our favour. We love weekends away where you can switch our phones off, have quality time doing an arrow words and being with the wilderness. Thank you.

We had an incredible time at Gold Rush Cabin - the location was perfect - secluded, picturesque and the accommodation was superbly thought out, with all the little touches and details taken care of. Amazing!

Absolutely stunning place to stay, back to nature style, the owners Dan and Ali could not have helped even more, went above and beyond to supply a surprise champagne to our cabin for a engagement proposal. Amazing people and answered every question we threw at them. Thank you so much Dan and Ali, Kieron and kate

Wow what a amazing setting. We loved everything about it. The facilities were amazing, Dan and Ali had thought of everything. We ordered our food to be there when we arrived. Even the rain didn’t spoil anything. Think my favourite was the watering can shower with hot water. My partner would say the hot tub. Fantastic 5 stars all the way.
03/06/2022Paul
Had a brilliant and the peaceful weekend at the beautiful Goldrush cabin. Best thing was cooking over the open fire whilst letting the hot tub warm up. Ali and Dan could not have been nicer or more helpful and there's loads of fantastic pubs to walk to!
27/05/2022Jessica
We had the most idyllic weekend at Gold Rush Cabin on Westley Farm. The cabin itself was super cosy, a little chilly in the evenings but once we fired up the log burner it was nice and toasty. The outdoor shower was a treat complete with hot water and relaxing in the hot tub outdoors in the country air felt like pure luxury. The plot was intimate and self contained with everything we needed for a lovely weekend getaway.
22/04/2022Cindy
It was just what we needed, very relaxing, loved the hot tub, open fire, etc.
24/09/2021ABIGAIL
The setting in the trees was idyllic. We had everything we needed at the cabin and it was the perfect mix of the outdoors with touches of luxury. The bed was extremely comfortable, the hot tub luxurious and the shower fun!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Gold Rush Cabin, and feel so revived. It's such a beautiful place, so considerately crafted and located in a lovely secluded woodland. We spent a very rainy day sitting under the tin roof reading books, playing cards, sketching and listening to nature; which was bliss. Then when the sun eventually did come out, we got our walking boots on, wandered down to the canal and off into the hills for a lovely 10 mile walk that took us through a nature reserve and pretty little villages, with a great Sunday roast at the Ram Inn to refuel. That was our only meal out though, because the rest of the time we enjoyed al fresco cooking and dining at the cabin! Would highly recommend.
20/08/2021Jodeine
Had a wonderful time spending lazy mornings on the deck with the sound of the birds, and lazy evenings with the BBQ. The hosts were friendly and helpful, leaving us to ourselves except if we texted for some assistance. The cabin was well-equipped and well-looked after, with a lovely hot shower, and not intruded by anyone except the occasional squirrel. Stroud is a great town to visit.
28/06/2021Sam
Our stay was amazing

We had the most wonderful stay at Gold Rush Cabin. Just what the Doctor ordered! The cabin was excellently equipped and we particularly enjoyed using the wood fire hot tub which came with excellent instructions. Our hosts were wonderful too and we enjoyed foraging for breakfast in the farm shed. An excellent stay, would really reccommend!

This was just what we needed! It was secluded and quiet with a private hot tub! It was absolutely perfect! Booked this for a joint birthday get away and we didn’t want to leave! We’re already looking at booking again at Westley farm. Even with COVID going on, Dan and Ali had everything set up for our arrival and were only a text away if we needed anything. Couldn’t of asked for a more perfect spot to sit back and relax.

We had a week away at Goldrush where we cycled, visited local attractions and pubs and enjoyed the hot tub.

We had a wonderful time at Gold Rush Cabin! Everything we needed for a beautiful peaceful stay with lots of lovely places to visit nearby. The cabin itself was excellent and clearly carefully planned to give guests a great time. We loved the opportunity to stargaze by the campfire!

Gold rush cabin is a thoughtfully designed escape from the rat race. Comfortable bed and fun design of kitchen and shower. Wonderful being able to cook outside on the decking. The watering can shower and dead mans tub are great. Such a tranquil peaceful area to sit and watch the birds and wildlife,

It was an absolutely wonderful stay.

We had an absolutely lovely stay, very secluded in the woods, surrounded by fields with cows and sheep! We loved the outdoor kitchen and shower and felt so relaxed. We enjoyed walking to the nearby pub, the Crown, in Frampton Mansell, which had a lovely, cosy atmosphere and delicious food. We visited many little towns in the area and had a great time. Even though we visited in the Summer, we really enjoyed using the wood fire in the cabin in the evenings, which was lovely to sit and listen to. The cabin was in a fantastic location, not far from civilisation, but also very secluded!
13/08/2018Katy
I can really tell you guys how amazing the stay was, everything was perfect!!! Ali was amazing, the location was amazing, the surroundings were amazing, the cabin was amazing, everything was just PERFECT!!! we will deffo be going back.
23/07/2018Graeme
We had a lovely stay in Gold Rush Cabin from 13th to 20th July. The bed and bedding were wonderfully luxurious and comfortable - I’m sure that no cowboy ever slept in such a glorious bed! All the other facilities were exactly as described. Roger in particular loved the open air shower and I found that I enjoyed it too once I had overcome my inhibitions. Ali and Dan prefer glampers to use their (supplied) eco-friendly toiletries and I found them all lovely to use - should have saved the space in my packing! Eating out on the deck is so relaxing, and we loved sitting by the campfire. Would recommend heating welshcakes in the little pie thing (tip - no more than one minute a side). Sitting in the twilight, eating buttered welshcakes with a glass of rose (or beer, in Roger’s case) and watching the stars - bliss. (This is no time to count calories). I had a pony ride on Rolo; lead by Ali and accompanied by her daughter on Sailor. A lovely, laid back experience; on horseback through the fields and woods. So good to have something so different from my everyday! We visited various pubs and had a delicious dinner on our final night in the Crown at Frampton Mansell.

Our stay at the Gold Rush Cabin was fabulous! The location in the forest is very secluded and very special. The owners (Dan and Ali) are wonderful and helpful- on hand if you need them, but otherwise they will let you simply be :-) The best bits were lounging in the hammock and listening to the birds; eating and bbq-ing on the porch; showering outside under the watering-can (with hot water); and sitting by the open fire, looking at the stars. Would totally recommend this fantastic place in a beautiful, quiet part of the Cotswolds.
09/07/2018Hanno
Amazing stay at Westley Farm. The cabin was perfect and had everything you required for our stay. The hospitality of Dan and Ali was also awesome and they never felt short of recommendations for the area. The bed, to add, was unbelievable, like sleeping in clouds. We can’t wait to come back and stay.

We're super excited to be adding Dan and Ali's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Sapperton Yurt should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!
