One of the most cost effective ways to improve your revenue is through improvement to interiors. For a relatively small cost you can refresh your space and bring it up to or above the competition. It’s a great way to make your space stand out, increase your occupancy and nightly rate.
Our Guest Experience Team Manager Justine has provided some of her top tips below on how to enhance your interior without spending the earth.
Tip 1 – Textiles are great for adding warmth
Add cushions, rugs and throws to sofas, beds and seating areas, to add warmth to your space. However, think about the cleaning aspect too, make sure they're easily removable and washable, so that you can keep your space looking, clean, fresh and new.
Tip 2 – Colour palette is important
Consider your surroundings and work with a good colour palette. Depending on what style you are trying to achieve, it’s sometimes better to use softer, light and neutral colours on walls, this helps to make smaller spaces feel big. Then add colour with your accessories, choosing bright throws, coloured cushions, lamps and fresh flowers.
Tip 3 – Go old for affordable options
You don’t have to splash out on brand new. Look around your local second-hand stores and reclamation yards, where you may find old tiles, sinks, troughs etc. Pop into the charity shops and even browse on eBay. Don’t be afraid to mix the old with the new.
In Canopy & Stars at Crane29 we made our own kitchen shelves out of reclaimed floor boards. Our bathroom sink was just an old trough we found in a reclamation yard, which we then fixed to a large tree trunk.
Tip 4 – Use multiple textures
In Canopy & Stars at Crane29 we created a textured wall made from sliced tree trunks, which we fixed using a glue gun. This cost us very little, just our time in cutting and fixing.
Tip 5 – Make useful items beautiful
Think about how you store and present items, e.g. wicker baskets for blankets or logs, vases and jugs for kitchen utensils…. apple crates for bookcases, old step ladders for shelves.
Try to avoid too much clutter, keep it simple. This will make it easier to clean too.
Tip 6 – Add personality
Don’t be afraid to add touches of your own personality. When your own style and quirk is applied you begin to differentiate yourself from the competition.
