Overview
This is some truly beautiful countryside and The Cat’s Back, named for one of the local hills, invites you to enjoy it whatever you’re doing, from morning coffee to lunch on the deck and then a wonderful soak in the outdoor bathtub that's big enough for two. Inside you’ll discover a lovely, crafted room with a gorgeous king size bed. There’s an en suite bathroom with a shower for when you don’t have time to run the bath, a kitchen area with hobs, fridge/freezer and microwave, and a space for lounging indoors if the weather turns. There’s no wifi, but while there’s mains power and you do get decent phone signal, staying here is a great chance to ditch the tech and properly relax.
Cheryl and her husband Bill have created the three beautiful cabins (sister cabins Pen-y-Fan and The Graig are just next door) to introduce you to the land that they love. If you’re a hiker, then you’ll be spoilt for choice. Right from the door, there’s a lovely route up Garway Hill that takes you through fields where wild ponies graze to incredible panoramic views of the Herefordshire countryside. You can pause for a picnic and turn back, or extend the walk to White Rocks to explore the old Templar Church and dovecote. About a mile away is Skenrith castle, where you can take a gentler stroll along the riverbanks and through the historic village of Garway, breaking up your day with a pint at The Moon, a classic local on the village common. The fabulous Four Castles cycle route ends in the village and if you go further afield you could find yourself canoeing or paddle boarding at Symond’s Yat, exploring Offa’s Dyke and walking the Monnow Valley, one of England’s hidden gems.

This place is incredible, we couldn’t believe our luck when we arrived. The views were out of this world, so peaceful and the perfect wind down we were looking for. Blessed with beautiful weather the sunsets were amazing. The cabin was perfect, everything you need, lovely big bed. The bath was fantastic and plenty of hot water to take in the views. Cannot rate this place enough, and have recommended it already to family and friends. The lake was a bonus to swim in, fab after a long walk and gorgeous to sit and see all the wonderful birds and dragonflies! Thank you so much Cheryl! It was beautiful and we will definitely be coming back again :)

Wow wow wow! This place did not disappoint! The view as we pulled up was immense and when we walked inside it was beautiful!!! Really comfy accommodation with everything I could need. The huge bath with that view was perfect and I almost lived in the hammock! Marvellous

We had a really wonderful time at The Cat's Back. The cabin was really nice and cosy even when there was rain and strong wind. The views were absolutely beautiful and it was such a peaceful place - perfect for a nice weekend away!
22/09/2023Elena
Amazing stay….from the view to the coolest cabin I’ve ever stayed in! Great way to unwind and have that much needed detox! Cheryl was so helpful and the breakfast box was delicious!
16/08/2023Sam
It was perfect! It was mine and my partner's first holiday together and it couldn't have been better! Our hosts were great at communicating with us prior to our arrival, and the digital guidebook they sent was something that we swore by for the whole holiday. The cabin was beautiful and clean, and the perfect size for two people. We felt very welcomed on our arrival. The cabin was easy to get to and the parking being right behind the cabin was an added bonus. We didn't to worry about anything, knowing we had all the facilities we needed in the cabin. We had gone to the supermarket on route so we didn't even need to venture into one of the nearby towns unless we were going to visit, but it was reassuring to know we didn't have far to drive if we did need anything. The views from the cabin balcony were so picturesque, it was lovely having breakfast out there every day and watching the clouds roll by from the outdoor bath on our final night - even in the rain! We honestly thought it was the most perfect place ever, and have already made plans to come back!
28/07/2023Elena
Had a lovely time - the cabin was great and the view was incredible.
19/07/2023Mike
I booked this for my folks and they absolutely loved it. They were impressed by the beautiful scenery, the quiet, the accommodation itself - my Dad in particular said the bed was super comfy and he slept like a log.
05/06/2023Christopher
We had a lovely stay at the cats back for our minimoon. It was such a cozy place and even in the stormy weather we had a wonderful time reading and listening to the rain on the roof. When the weather cleared up we loved exploring the castle nearby and cooking on the grill. The outdoor bath was glorious and romantic way to end our honeymoon. Cheryl was an excellent host and came in gale force winds to offer us fresh towels. A total star
10/04/2023layla
We had an amazing few days. The location is perfect, the views are stunning and the place has been very thoughtfully laid out, with some nice touches. The bluetooth radio was very useful and the ice in the freezer was a great find!
26/08/2022Helen
Peaceful and relaxing. Amazing view from the balcony/bath/hammock/bed. Spacious inside and had everything we needed.
22/08/2022Laura

Wonderful relaxing stay - the most incredible view! We had the perfect weekend break and were so lucky with the weather making the most of the lovely local walks and bbq's on the decking. It was so peaceful and private, we would love to come back

Me and my partner were gifted a voucher and so we decided to book at The Cat's Back, a wonderful wooden cabin, with stunning views of the Wye valley.
23/05/2022Michael
We stayed at the cat’s back over the Easter weekend, it was clean and comfy and had a lovely view.
14/04/2022Zoe
The cabin was great for a relaxing weekend in nature! It had all the amenities we needed, country walks from the doorstep, a pub close by and Hereford town a 20 min drive away. Accommodation was immaculate and the bath and fire pit were all we needed for stargazing. Kingsize bed was comfortable and the sofa was perfectly positioned to read a good book whilst enjoying the view of the valley.
01/04/2022Jess
We stayed for two nights in the middle of March. It was amazing. The cabin was clean and cosy, and the views were stunning. We had a lovely relaxing stay
11/03/2022Anne
We had a lovely stay at The Cats Back, even if the weather wasn't the best! The views from the deck and the bath tub are amazing. Exactly what you need for a break away.
29/12/2021Amber
The cabin was ideal for a weekend out of the city in a truly beautiful part of the country. Cheryl was super helpful and responsive, giving great tips for places to eat or visit. Cabin itself is finished to a good standard and survived Storm Arwen which was impressive given we thought the wind would take the roof off! Recommend doing the walk up Garway Hill right from the cabin for proper views, and the Angel Inn was the perfect pub for a freezing winter's eve - food is belting, service to match.
26/11/2021Daniel
From the time we arrived we were delighted the view was fabulous even the weather was kind. The cabin was beautiful and the bed so comfortable. We even used the outside bath as the water was hot and very relaxing Thank you so much
26/09/2021Julie
We had a beautifully relaxing and fun stay at the Cat's Back. Cheryl was most helpful before and during our stay and I have never seen views like this from a holiday let before. Sunset and rise to die for ! Most comfortable bed in a holiday let I've slept on too. Cooking outside and a liberating outside bath to boot! Would highly recommend.
18/09/2021Cathy
The view from the cabin was simply stunning. We loved the outdoor bath - nighttime soaks, gazing up at the stars. And the walks from the cabin were the perfect way to spend the days!
10/09/2021Ruth
A beautiful cabin in an amazing location which made for a perfect break. We couldn’t have asked for more, we had everything we needed inside the cabin which was so well equipped plus the breath taking views over the Welsh mountains. Every evening we sat on the deck looking at the stars whilst toasting marshmallows on the firepit, it was truly magical. We walked the Skenfrith loop, along Offa’s Dyke Path and the Wysis Way, plus visited Hay on Wye, Monmouth and Hereford. We also enjoyed a delicious burger at The Moon in Garway.
16/08/2021Hannah
What a stunning location. The views were spectacular and the cabin itself was beautiful. It had everything we needed for cosy nights cooking over the fire or taking a bath under the stars! We absolutely loved it and hope to be able to return in future.
12/08/2021Hannah
We had our breath taken away with how beautiful the location was. The cabin was so beautifully laid out and perfect for a short stay. We loved the little touches that really made it special and was the just the best escape. I could not recommend it more

A wonderful cabin in such a beautiful location. The cosy, well furnished cabin had everything that you needed and the views were stunning. It was a great place to relax and enjoy the countryside.
02/08/2021Susannah
We stayed for two nights as a getaway for my partner’s birthday, and we were fortunate that the weather was glorious! We managed to get lots of time in the sun, with no distractions of normal life, with an outstanding view from our bathtub on the terrace! Every night was barbecue time with the fire pit, which just added to the vibe. Cannot recommend highly enough.
21/07/2021Nathan
We had a wonderful stay at the Cats Back! Everything was thought of and the cabin and views were amazing, would definitely come back!

29/05/2021Mae
We had such a lovely stay at The Cat's Back. The cabin was so cosy and beautifully decorated, the views were stunning and the bed was probably the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in! Despite some rainy weather we still managed to go for a walk up to Garway Hill which had amazing views of the surrounding area. We also got to enjoy the outdoor bath and soak under the stars as well as toast marshmallows over the fire pit - it was a perfect way to spend the weekend! Our hosts were also very accommodating and helpful, we would love to stay again in the future!

We had a wonderful time at The Cat's Back. The location was absolutely perfect with a stunning view across the countryside. The interior of the cabin was just as perfect, cosy and comfortable. Cheryl really thought of everything, and all the little touches made it even more lovely. Cheryl was very helpful, giving us information on the local area and places to visit. Overall an amazing place to stay, quiet and private and so much beautiful countryside to explore and walk around. Would definutely recommend! There's nothing quite like having a bath out on the decking while taking in the breathtaking views and sunshine!

We stayed at the cat’s back over the Easter weekend, it was clean and comfy and had a lovely view.

We had a lovely stay at The Cats Back, even if the weather wasn't the best! The views from the deck and the bath tub are amazing. Exactly what you need for a break away.

From the time we arrived we were delighted the view was fabulous even the weather was kind. The cabin was beautiful and the bed so comfortable. We even used the outside bath as the water was hot and very relaxing Thank you so much

The view from the cabin was simply stunning. We loved the outdoor bath - nighttime soaks, gazing up at the stars. And the walks from the cabin were the perfect way to spend the days!

What a stunning location. The views were spectacular and the cabin itself was beautiful. It had everything we needed for cosy nights cooking over the fire or taking a bath under the stars! We absolutely loved it and hope to be able to return in future.

We had the BEST stay at The Cat's Back. The location is stunning, the cabin is private, quiet & picturesque. We loved the outdoor bath at sunset and sitting around the fire with blankets on into the night.

We're super excited to be adding Cheryl and Bill's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for The Graig and Pen-y-Fan should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!
