Overview
In the middle of 100 acres of woodland and a beautiful rewilding project sits Woods Edge, a colourful cabin that literally represents a dream come true. Three generations of the Cosgrove family got together to buy abandoned farmland and, having built their own home, decided to create a place where others could come to appreciate the natural beauty of an unspoilt slice of Devon. Brothers-in-law Tom and Ben built the two-storey escape, complete with suntrap deck and hot tub. Visionary Helen brought a rainbow of colour and soothing comfort to the interior, while toddlers Zeddie and Bonnie stress tested everything, without even being asked. What they’ve created is a fabulous spot for unwinding into the clear stars of Devon’s night skies as you steam, or lounging on the deck as you watch for the wildlife that thrives on the healthy land around you. Barn owls and Tawny owls hunt at dusk, deer graze the meadow and otters have been seen scampering on the banks of the ponds and streams.
If you sit patiently, the wildlife will probably wander past, but there’s a signposted walk round the 100-acre site, including a bridge onto your private island, in case you feel like doing some more active spotting. There are similarly energetic and lazy food options too, from hampers of delicious produce, wood-fired pizza kits and BBQ packs by the local butcher, to having a private chef come in and take care of it all for you. If any stress somehow remains, then have a masseuse come over and work it out. This is rural Devon of course, so you’re surrounded by all the hill climbing, moor walking, coastal crashing adventure you could want and a big barrel of incredible pubs to wander off to afterwards. But then, with a cabin like this, in a setting like that, why would you ever leave?

Meet The Cosgrove Family
Until 1990, Lower Longwood was over 100 acres of unused, forgotten farmland. With dreams of barn conversions and building a home, the family members each sold their own homes and together bought Lower Longwood. When they finally acquired Lower Longwood it was a dream too good to be true! Now the whole family are living on the farmland. A growing family spanning three generations, Longwood's rugged beauty, ancient woods and plethora of flora and fauna, begs to be shared respectfully with nature lovers.
Woods Edge cabin has been built with tireless care and attention by the brother-in-law team Tom and Ben, with insights from their master carpenter patriarch, Pete. The cabin's bright and cosy interior designed and painted by the resident visionary Helen, furnished, cleaned and cared for by Alison, Eva and Heather, and limits tested by the toddler duo, Zeddie and Bonnie - the little cousins with just three days between them!
Wildlife and the environment
Lower Longwood has become a haven for wildlife, which guests will be able to experience first hand from Woods Edge and the private woodland walk. From the nesting barn owl couple, to tawny owls in and around the trees of the cabin. You might see roe, muntjac and fallow deer grazing in the meadow. The rewilded ponds and hedgerows have given shelter to otters, black swans, and a variety of birds or prey.

Alison
We stayed for 3 nights in the cabin and it was everything we were looking for, and more. Remote, beautiful, cosy, off grid, and surrounded by beautiful re-wilded land. The cabin itself is warm, very well decorated, and had everything we needed for our stay including hot water bottles and dressing gowns, and the wood-fired hot tub was just glorious. Every last detail had been thought about, even the beautiful fairy-lights marking the path to the cabin. The fact it's been built by hand by Tom and Ben from reclaimed wood, windows, and lighting makes it feel so special. Sitting in the hot tub in the rain and looking out at the landscape was magical. And Tom and Ben are very lovely, perfect hosts who responded quickly whenever we had questions but left us to ourselves otherwise.

We had a perfect two night stay at Woods Edge. The cabin was exactly as advertised, clean, comfortable and well designed with quirky décor & some lovely little extras left for us. The cabin is fully secluded in your own field so we didn't see another person which was amazing!! Lots of wildlife to sit and listen to which was very peaceful and the hot tub and other facilities were easy to use and worked perfectly!! Thank you for a lovely few days.

Woods Edge was incredibly beautiful! The colourful decor in the cosy and rustic wooden cabin made us feel right at home! The hot tub was lovely! It took a while to heat up but once it was hot it was very relaxing. A perfect weekend getaway spot!

What a lovely place the attention to detail for this build is breath taking, the most beutifal location where you can just day dream in the hot tub and stare at the epic stars. The question you need to ask yourself is why wouldn't I stay here?

Woods edge is a luxury cabin, it has all of the amenities of a house made out of bricks and mortar. Being in the countryside we lost the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and were surrounded by wildlife. Despite this it also wasn’t far to get to the coastline or a town.
19/06/2023Joel
Woods Edge is an incredible place to stay. It is completely private, comfortable, relaxing and just beautiful. We absolutely loved the little roof terrace off the bedroom. The views are stunning!
20/05/2023Lisa
We had such a wonderful stay at Woods Edge (suited 2 adults and 2 children perfectly). Tom, Heather and the rest of the family have clearly put so much thought and effort into what they have created and built, and everything was of high quality. It was incredibly warm, comfortable, gorgeous designs and colours and felt very unique. We all really enjoyed the hot tub, especially surrounded by nature and birds singing! Tom was so quick to respond to anything we needed and although you're totally private, you know the family are close by if you need help with something. Our only tip is to be prepared to wait for at least a few hours to get the hot tub warm enough, but it's great that you can just get straight back in again in the morning as it stays pretty hot overnight! Thank you again for a great experience & the booking via Canopy & Stars, we're definitely impressed.

I really enjoyed my stay at Woods Edge. The quirky design and colourful interiors really give the cabin a unique feel. I especially love the terrace off the bedroom upstairs, perfect for watching the sunset with a G&T, as well as star gazing at night. I have never heard so many owls hooting!
