Overview
There’s no better way to visit the Lake District than by striding out from a cabin in the woods that keeps the wilderness with you even when you come home. Romey is one of three cabins (see also Forrest and Merlin) in the trees high on a hill of the Edenhall estate, where rhododendrons flourish in the spring and wildlife thrives. Each of the three cabins has its own woodland clearing about 75m from the others, with a private hot tub and loo & shower shacks. No facilities are shared, but together the three are great for a group, with Romey your central gathering point thanks to the outdoor bench seating area. Everything inside and out has been expertly designed and fashioned by owner Mark and his team, to create a space that wraps itself around you like a warm blanket.
If you aren’t big on hiking then don’t worry, there’s plenty more to keep you occupied. Local pubs like The Shepherds Inn on the river Eden (only just over a mile away) are great for long lazy lunches and you can do anything from visiting alpaca farms, to fishing or learning to fly a glider. On the other hand, Romey is the sort of place that makes you want to stock up and stay in. Indulgent hampers can be waiting on arrival for big celebrations and there are great farm shops nearby, so you can soak in the hot tub, cook up something great, then retire to bed and stargaze in stunning night skies through the big ceiling window.

Meet your hosts
“Whene'er this cup shall break or fall, farewell the luck of Eden Hall.”
These are the ominous words uttered to the first butler of Edenhall as he stole the celebrated drinking glass called The Luck of Eden Hall from a company of fairies and refused to return it. The original hall is gone, demolished in 1934, but the impressive gate house remains. The cup, on the other hand, is still preserved to this day in The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, lest disaster befalls those that stay at Edenhall to this day.
Edenhall Estate is a much loved family home which has been in the Holden-Hindley family for four generations. Throughout that time each of them have shared a core set of family values but a timely vision for the future of this remarkable place. Edenhall is unique for many reasons, not least of all it's position in the heart of the Eden Valley. Bordered by the Rivers Eden and Eamont and nestled only minutes from both the renowned Lake District and the Pennine Fells, the sights of which surround us throughout the seasons.
Farming and sporting pursuits have remained at the core of Eden Hall throughout history and still do today. They’ve also been hard at work lovingly restoring a host of boutique accommodation available to hire, each place renovated with design and purpose at their core.
Wildlife & Environment
As well as the Lake District being nearby, the estate itself is home to deer as well as plenty of other wildlife and salmon and brown trout abound in the rivers and pools all around.

Our guests say...
Scipio
Honestly the most idyllic, secluded and luxurious holiday we have ever experienced.
07/06/2024Elsha
The cabin and surrounding estate is beautiful and remote, with reasonably easy access to many key places around the Lakes. It was in near-perfect condition on arrival, and everything we needed was provided.
26/04/2024James
The cabin felt secluded and restful but had everything we needed. We were very comfortable for a long weekend and there’s plenty a short drive away in terms of restaurants, walks and nice towns to visit. Otherwise it’s very restful to just relax in the hot tub and watch the pheasants.
29/03/2024David
We booked Romey for three nights over New Years Eve and it was perfect. Communication prior was clear and ensured a smooth start. The cabin was set up with everything needed for the stay and was clean and well presented. It was exactly as described on the website if not better. During our stay we did one local walk around the Eden Hall and a couple of walks about a 20 minute drive away by one of the lakes. The scenery was beautiful. The wood fire hot tub in the middle of the forest under the stars is an experience we will not forget.
29/12/2023Charlotte
We had a lovely 3 night stay at the lost cabins, away from everything did truly feel amazing just to have that quietness from the woodlands, location was just perfect with only a short drive from to Penrith and the beautiful lakes!
10/11/2023Ana
Our stay was Absolutely brilliant. As you walked down the path it had the wow factor. The location was perfect for us, and it had everything we needed. The Woodfire hot tub amazing and a favourite of the kids! Just what we needed after all the activities and walks we did during our stay. 100% we’ll be back! LOVED IT.
04/08/2023Sarah
Our stay was perfect. We booked it as a long weekend away to slow down and relax and that's exactly what the accommodation helped us do. The surrounding woodland was gorgeous and made it feel secluded, the cabin was clean and well stocked with everything you could need and the bed was cosy and comfy. We loved the hot tub and even saw deer walk through the site whilst we were in it! The location was great to easy access to other places too. There's no WiFi and very little signal which was fine with us but you can get WiFi near where you park your car if you want to plan your journey/activities.

My sister and I had a great time at Romey, The Lost Cabins in Penrith. The area was very secluded, we really did feel like we were the only ones there. The cabin itself was very cosy, especially with the fire on. The bed was very comfortable and large, and the mini kitchen was well equipped. One thing to note, we struggled at first as there were no instructions on how to set up hot tub with the log fire, we would have appreciated a handbook or tips/tricks of how to get this going and how long it usually takes to get hot, we had to do a lot of googling - I think a welcome pack would be very useful going forward. The other thing is that we couldn't find anything to light to fire with either, and there was no coal supplied for the BBQ. I think this should be advertised on the cabin website that you need to bring your own for these things as we assumed it would be supplied. All in all, we did have a great time and would definitely return!

We had 3 fun & relaxing nights at the Lost Cabins. Kids loved the cabin with its loft bed and had great fun with their Dad stoking the wood fired hot tub which we got to 38 degrees in three hours on our first day and kept it hot all weekend. A quiet and private spot, we enjoyed BBQs, a stroll to the river and owl/bat spotting by night. The cabin was extremely well-equipped and we had everything needed for a lovely break.

It was an amazing couple of days in the woods, with no wifi and limited phone signal. Very relaxing!

We had such a brilliant stay, everything about the cabin was perfect! Could have definitely done with a few more days there. It feels like you're in a totally different world

Romey was a beautiful little cabin in such a secluded little part of the estate. Not so easy to find after our phone signal dropped out on us but driving back a few paces we found signal again and then found it quite easily (just needed the what 3 words to update). We loved the outdoor space - so much room and great facilities in terms of the fire pit and BBQ, loads of seating too! We were really looking forward to the hot tub however we failed to get it warm enough for a swim even after more than 4 hours (both afternoons) so that was a bit disappointing. But otherwise everything else was really sweet and we had a very peaceful stay!

We're super excited to be adding Edenhall’s latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Forrest and Merlin should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!

Honestly the most idyllic, secluded and luxurious holiday we have ever experienced.

The cabin and surrounding estate is beautiful and remote, with reasonably easy access to many key places around the Lakes. It was in near-perfect condition on arrival, and everything we needed was provided.

The cabin felt secluded and restful but had everything we needed. We were very comfortable for a long weekend and there’s plenty a short drive away in terms of restaurants, walks and nice towns to visit. Otherwise it’s very restful to just relax in the hot tub and watch the pheasants.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at the lost cabins, away from everything did truly feel amazing just to have that quietness from the woodlands, location was just perfect with only a short drive from to Penrith and the beautiful lakes!

LOVED IT.
