Overview
This sociable site and everything built on it is the perfect place to spend some time in the great outdoors. As you step into the Woodland Cabin, handmade entirely from local and upcycled wood, and scramble up the chunky ladder to double bed on the mezzanine, you get a feel for Lisa & Neil's commitment to sustainability and their endless ingenuity. If you stroll over to the bathing hut shared with Pixie Yurt or meet your other neighbours in the camp, you get a dose of their inclusive spirit, but you have your own loo and a private deck with woodland views on the sheltered side of the cabin if you prefer to keep to yourself.
Mill Valley is completely off-grid and quite rustic, like good old fashioned camping, but with a bit of creativity thrown in. You'll spend your time exploring nature, getting generally muddy and making new friends. as you meet the guests in the other spaces, possibly some of the congregation of the church up the hill, owners Lisa and Neil and at least a couple of their dogs, which will happily play with your own if you’ve brought them. As well as Mill Valley itself, the Cornish coast is your playground, with magical woodland walks, windy coastal paths and sweeping beaches to explore as well as country pubs waiting with fine food in peaceful hidden villages.

Meet your hosts
Meet Lisa & Neil
Lisa and Neil started Mill Valley about ten years ago, as they felt that there was a shortage of old fashioned campsites where you can have genuine freedom. Where you can light fires, collect firewood and generally unwind. Get back to nature and appreciate life's simple things without the trappings of modern technology. Most of all, they wanted to provide a holiday experience where dogs don’t have to be left behind! Lisa and Neil live in a converted water mill, which is the last working undershot water wheel in Cornwall.
Wildlife & Environment
Mill Valley is situated on a 15-acre organic smallholding in an exceptionally beautiful Cornish wooded valley. Lisa and Neil have a small herd of Dexter and North Devon cattle, as well as a few sheep, some Boer goats and old-breed pigs. Part of the farm is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its wetland habitat. Only a short distance are two stunning woodland riverside walks and in the spring they are carpeted with bluebells. There is a weir and a natural swimming pool a short walk away – perfect for dogs who like a dip! A mother otter has also been spotted here, teaching her young to fish! Kingfishers are quite regularly seen on the river and sightings of roe deer are nearly an everyday occurrence. Tawny owls are heard most nights and even the occasional magical glimpse of a barn owl.
Mill Valley is off-grid and everything is wood-fired, with a couple of solar lights for lighting at night. Water comes from Lisa and Neil's own borehole. They have planted over 800 trees of over 30 different varieties, and are passionate about tree-planting and the environment.

We had a lovely stay in the Woodland cabin for 3 nights. it was easy to find and we were greeted when we got there. the hosts had really good communication. our only improvement would have been the cabin got very dark at night, and would have been nice to have some extra fairy lights or lanterns.

We had a lovely 5 days at Mill Valley Yurts in Cornwall. The owners were incredibly friendly and really helpful and the location was perfect to access lots of different sights. The feel of the cabin was lovely inside and offered a peaceful off-the-grid get away. Snuggled up infront of the fire it was the perfect place to unwind and get away from busy everyday life. Everyone had their own facilities which ensured it was Covid safe. As a high risk individual I found I felt very safe on this site.

Our stay at the woodland cabin was perfect. It was so much fun cooking over the fires morning and night. The cabin was very sweet and cosy and it was really nice to have running water inside. The wood fired showers were great fun with about 3 large logs and 30mins of tending we were able to have a 20min really hot shower. Our dog Ronnie absolutely love it too. Would love to stay again.

My partner and I had a wonderful few days at Mill Valley Yurts. Lisa and Neil were great hosts. They welcomed us so warmly when we arrived and gave us a tour of their land. Everything was a breeze, we really enjoyed our time there. We are already planning a trip back!

Wonderful time at Mill Valley, beautiful scenic location and with no signal! Wonderfully off-grid.
23/04/2019Alexander
The weather was against us, but the woodland cabin was a cosy and peaceful place to hide out and listen to the storm outside. Every morning at 7 we were woken by a blackbird (my favourite birds) tapping on our window.
03/03/2019Amy
Had a fantastic couple of days relaxing in the cabin. Lovely location, great facilities, beautiful cabin and lovely hosts.
30/11/2018Antony
We had a really lovely time, the surroundings were beautiful and the cabin was a work of art.
07/11/2018Ruby
We stayed for a week over half term, it was a lovely, cosy, cleverly designed hut championing wood & natural light throughout with a really homely feel in a lovely setting. We were there for five days & would happily have stayed more, we were very relaxed and chilled out by the end of our stay and we thoroughly enjoyed the site & set up, the close amenities and what North Cornwall offered. The owners of the site were extremely helpful in advance giving us helpful travel tips and were really welcoming as we got there, for the rest of our stay they were on hand and friendly but kept a professional distance and there were depths to the site that they told us of, insight made it more interesting. We enjoyed being 'electricity and wi-fi free' and my eleven year old who is normally 'glued' to a gadget informed me, "This is living mum!" so the stay certainly hit the mark as far as an exciting adventure for an older boy. The hut and the facilities like toilet and bath were really well thought out and even though they were 'naturally provided' they were clean, easy to use and worked really effectively and the smallest details being thought about made it an wholly enjoyable experience.
27/10/2017Deborah
A delightful, hand-crafted cabin, packed with personality and rustic charm! The location is fantastic, surrounded by beautiful countryside and Cornwall's stunning coastline, beaches and attractions within easy reach. A short stroll down the adjacent country lane and you encounter the most magical woods, where you can walk along the stream to the local pub. Lisa and Neil were such wonderful hosts and ever so welcoming of the dog. It was lovely returning in the evening to the wood burner set up and ready to go and settling in for the night, illuminated by tea lights and lanterns.
