Overview
Almost equidistant from Bodmin Moor, The Tamar Valley AONB, Dartmoor, and the coast – you’re just half an hour’s drive from some amazing spots. With space for six, if you’re coming with the family, or just with a partner or friends, this is a phenomenal launching point for adventures in this part of the country – but even better than a launching point, it’s the most incredible place to retire back to.
Picture this, you’re making your way onto a 500-acre working farm, in a delightfully secluded stretch of stunning Cornish countryside. Within seconds of putting the bags down, you lose everyone you brought in a frenzy of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’. Someone will find the hammock, another – the hot tub, and if someone doesn’t comment on the kitchen/dining area that’s straight out of an interior design mag – it’ll be a miracle. But it doesn’t stop there, every hour reveals another feature coming into its own. Your first night will end in drinks under fairy lights in the massive garden space, but morning will also see you there dining al fresco, having walked out your French doors to the happy laughter of early risers.
This is a space where weather doesn’t factor in. Sunny days will see you spying any manner of farm animals around or just lazing in a deckchair, but you’ll love reading books on the mezzanine to the pitter patter of rain just as much.

Meet Sarah and Harry
Sarah and Harry were offered the chance to be custodians of the historic part of the family farm and to convert a barn to be their family home. The farm has been in the family since 1618 and Sarah & Harry are passionate about restoring the barns and conserving the land around them. That way, they ensure the craftmanship and care of previous generations will continue into the future. Sarah and Harry live on the farm with their two daughters who share a love of nature and exploring Cornwall.
Wildlife & Environment
Sarah and her family love the area they live in, as it's under thirty minutes’ drive from the coast, far enough away to avoid crowds of people or the dreaded sea mists! On site there is an abundance of wildlife, you can often spot the deer in the woodlands, bats at dusk and a regular barn owl visiting the meadow surrounding Hinterland House. As the barn is located on a working farm, you will often see the cows, horses, chickens, ducks and sheep.

05/07/2024Jon
We had the most wonderful 4 night stay at Hinterland House, what an amazing place it is! Everything feels that extra bit special, from the stunning barn itself with its timber and gorgeous design, to the carefully chosen furniture, furnishings, cosy blankets, and the most beautiful garden/ meadow, not to mention that view! We were looking for peace, nature and relaxation and that’s exactly what we had! Sarah was so helpful and lovely, answering my many questions beforehand that meant we could look forward to our trip knowing it would suit our family, and providing so much advice and information on the local area, yet leaving us to enjoy the barn and our trip when we were there, the perfect host! Thanks so much

We had a fantastic time at Hinterland House - the house has been set up with so much care and it's a beautiful place to stay, and in a wonderful location for visiting some amazing parts of Cornwall and Devon.
27/05/2024Rob
Hinterland house is a beautifully designed family home that has been cleverly designed from a barn conversion with different levels throughout. Most barn conversions I have seen are open with limited spaces but this has been carefully thought out. The views from the master bedroom are outstanding. It was a peaceful way to step out of the chaos of work and into the blissful countryside of North Cornwall. There is so much to do in that area but then you can retreat to the tranquillity of Hinterland and the kids are happy playing with no screens or TV.
24/05/2024Ed
It was fantastic, a wonderful home in a beautiful, peaceful setting.
03/05/2024Brodie
5 adults plus one child stayed here last week. It was perfect, so much space and the view was incredible. They had a giant table for family meals, and the living area with a log fire was perfectly cosy for evenings.
22/04/2024Megan
A wonderfully relaxing time in the Cornish countryside. We loved waking up to the sound of the birds, opening up the curtains in the master bedroom and watching the wildlife in the garden. Nights were spent stargazing form the hot tub, with the sound of the barn owls hooting nearby and cooking s'mores on the camp fire. We were incredibly sad to leave.
12/04/2024Ellen
The most peaceful holiday in nature surrounded by beautiful countryside. This property had everything you could possibly need and more! Such a homely feel with all the personal touches the owners left in the property.

A beautifully designed space, offering everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed heading out for coastal and countryside walks nearby and then coming home to cook in the well-equipped kitchen and lounge around the fire. The hot tub looked out over stunning Cornish countryside. This is a perfect place for a group of friends to come and relax for a weekend.

As soon as we stepped into the house, we were just amazed and speechless because of how beautiful the place is, really couldn't get a better place to spend our holiday together. Every single corner of the house was very beautifully designed and located, such a perfect holiday house. Genuinely could live there forever. Sarah and Harry is also such a lovely host, very responsive and helpful throughout our stay (even when we arrived quite late on the check-in day). Will definitely come back again, not even a question! Love the place a bit too much ;)

We booked a trip to Hinterland to celebrate my 40th birthday with a group of incredibly special friends. It was a chance for us all to stop, nourish our bones, and fill a house full of our love, laughter and joy.
17/11/2023Dani
A reunion of old friends coming together for a winter weekend, Hinterland House could not have been a more perfect setting. The minute we stepped through the door we were in awe, the interiors were beautiful! It's spacious and cosy, with the perfect layout and everything you could possibly need for a small gathering of friends. We had lazy mornings and did yoga in the lounge, had windy walks on the coast, had afternoon soaks in the hot tub, with unspoilt views and sounds of birds. We cooked feasts in the big kitchen and played cards and drunk wine around the fire. Despite the lovely weather, we rarely wanted to leave the house! The perfect place for a winter getaway. We'll be back.
13/10/2023Tessa
The moment we walked into the house we felt relaxed and at home. Every window has beautiful views of the rolling countryside and the private garden was the perfect place for our group to spend some long overdue quality time together. With the firepit, hot tub and outdoor dining space we spent our days and evenings catching up, eating and laughing, all whilst surrounded by beautiful scenery and the sounds of birds! The barn itself felt spacious and cosy at the same time, with spots to snuggle up with a good book or take an afternoon nap too. We are already talking about coming back again as a group next year, as it really feels like we found the perfect spot for our getaways, so why look anywhere else!

Stunning, peaceful, relaxing, tranquil....that's just some words that describe our 4 night stay. Sarah and Harry were fabulous hosts, attending to everything we asked for - they truly have a wonderful house to share. The house itself is extremely well equipped, spotlessly clean and located in a stunning setting at the end of a long inspiring farm path (albeit a little bumpy) but fun at the same time. The wood burner kept us toasty and the hot tub allowed us to star gaze everything above - totally blissful! If you want a large style converted barn, what seems in the middle of nowhere, then this is definitely the place to be....we'll be back at some point in the future!
