Overview
With a basin made from a river boulder and beams from the surrounding woods, it’s fair to say that Halvana is in harmony with its environment. Owner Jane, whose roses are often eaten by foraging wild deer, might disagree, but she and husband Paul, who quit the city to become a postman, have crafted the cabin to help you melt into the wilderness. The bed, lounge and kitchen area are all in the open-plan space downstairs, kitted out in rich natural colours that give the place the feel of a frontier lodge, although the surrounding wildlife is less bears and moose, more sheep, cows and a friendly pony who might come and say hello over the fence. Upstairs you’ll find the mezzanine, a low-ceilinged lounging and loafing space which the kids will love, but need to be careful in, as the railing is minimal. From here you can birdwatch even better than from downstairs, but you could also head out to the hammock and hear the full symphony of song as you drift off for a nap.
There’s also a swing and a firebowl, the latter coming with a box of Fireside Fancies - a few things to help you with a bit of wild cookery, even if it’s just toasting the marshmallows.
Thanks to the Rights of Way act, you’re free to walk most of the moor around you, and you’ll see the occasional dog walker or horse rider go by on the track over the fence, as well as hearing Paul leave for his morning rounds. There are massive rambles through Bodmin’s dramatic scenery, studded with ancient stone circles, and it’s only a short drive to the coastal path for windblown hikes, but the King’s Head is a pleasant 1.5 miles away from Halvana and rewards you with a great pint or, if you time it right, a superb roast. Even a long, lazy lunch would have you back in plenty of time to light the firebowl and watch the stars come out as you listen for snuffling badgers and hooting owls.

Meet Jane and Paul
Paul and Jane have lived at Halvana for 20 years, and raised a family of 4 children and 1 grandchild on the estate. Jane and Paul thought Cornwall would be a better life to raise the children, so Paul gave up his busy corporate London life to become a postman in Cornwall. The family love living in this part of the world and the children kept busy with hatching chickens, collecting eggs, the girls had a pony. There was always a tame lamb keeping warm by the AGA in the kitchen and a hen being followed by her chicks. Jane can be found in dungarees and a floral apron, usually putting a cake in the oven or in the kitchen garden. In his spare time Paul likes body boarding at the nearby beaches and walking across the moor. Visiting friends describe life at Halvana as the perfect meeting point between Cath Kidston and Enid Blyton. One Christmas, the family spent in the shed together cooking on a solid fuel range and sitting on straw bales. It was after this beautiful family experience that Jane and Paul thought it would be nice to renovate the shed for others to enjoy short breaks in the country. The Halvana Forest Shed was born, and provides a taste of the life the family have enjoyed here. A simple life surrounded by fields, animals, fresh eggs and cooking outside.
Wildlife & the environment
Halvana is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Forestry Commission own the forest, and Bodmin Moor forms part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. Most of the moor is now designated as open access under the countryside rights of way act. Onsite you can see loads of birds, jays, owls, woodpeckers, cuckoo and birds of prey. Stoats, moles, foxes, rabbits, squirrel, bats, field mice and the occasional badger. At Halvana you are so close to nature that the deer eat Jane's garden roses!
Halvana is a eco-friendly stay, and all the electric onsite is green. Water is pumped from a spring in the local meadow. The family only use eco-friendly products and compost food waste. You will see bird boxes, bat boxes, and long meadow areas around site for the wildlife.

It’s the second time we stayed at the Forest Shed and it was just as amazing as the first time. Jane the host is attentive and you can always message her for local places to visit!

Our stay over new years was so magical! It was all kitted out with Xmas decor and sweet fairy lights and a tree! Very much cabin in the woods vibe, absolutely loved it, it was quiet, cosy with the fire and everything you could need from endless books, board games, tv, and a comfy bed to snooze in.
31/12/2024Abby
Where do i start, we already knew how magical the Forest Shed was as stayed previously, but this stay to wake to a glorious deep Snow White blanket was a Christmas wonderland come early. The cabin snugly sitting on the edge of the Forest in a winter wonderland was amazing, walking in the virgin snow of the forest on the doorstep, knowing the return to the cabin with all its features & log burner would wrap itself around us. Totally relaxed It released a creative side that was trapped inside and created bespoke items left amongst the owners curios for other guests to enjoy in the cabin. We only left the shed twice for provisions as the shed & location was what we came for & man it provided.

Halvana Shed was magical from the minute we arrived, easy access with a lock box, it was inviting and decorated for Autumn

We had a wonderful stay at Halvana Forest Shed. We could see that the cabin is a labour of Love. Jane has gone all out to think of everything you could possibly need. Half the fun is searching through all the bits a bobs to find it! There were even seasonal decorations throughout, and we were still finding new interesting things after 3 days. We had a lot of rain but the shed is honestly the best place to be sitting, cosy, with a fire going and a lot of blankets. We would happily return in the future, thank you!
04/10/2024Matthew
Halvana is close to the woods and plenty of walks.the main house is close by but you wouldn’t know. Peaceful and quiet.
27/09/2024Melanie
Faultless. As soon as we stepped through the door we felt a sense of peace. Relaxing and warming atmosphere that was created due to Jane's attention to detail. Even the rainy, windy nights were enjoyable last, sat with hot chocolate in front of the log burner. We would of stayed longer...we will be going back.

We had a wonderful stay at Halvana Forest Shed, the accommodation was absolutely beautiful and made us feel cosy and snug despite the disappointing weather. The calmness of the Shed and its surroundings is like having a huge hug. The attention to detail was impressive, with lots of activities to take you away from the stresses and strains of everyday life and fill you soul with playfulness and joy
11/03/2024Renee
It was incredible! The shed is amazing, warm, beautifully laid out with everything you need. The record player, the chocolate vodka, the lights, the forest just outside - it's lush.

The Shed is an amazing place for a relaxing weekend away. I have never stayed at a place with such amazing attention to detail and the amount of little treats left for us was a really nice touch as well. We loved the place and will definitely be back. Thank you very much.

We have the most amazing stay at the Shed, it is the most amazing magical stay, we enjoyed it so much, so peaceful and so lovely.
23/11/2023Steph
Our stay at The Shed was probably one of the best places we have ever stayed. Jane has gone above and beyond to make sure your experience of staying there is perfect. From the moment we walked in with the stereo softly playing, fairy lights twinkling, a scent of Spiced pumpkin filled the room and feeling cosy and warm it was everything I thought it would be and more. Jane even went out of her way to leave a Pumpkin on the side with child friendly carving tools for our 6 year old to carve, it was truly special and unique. We used the Firepit the first evening we were there to cook some food and toast marshmallows, our son was just thrilled to be on his mini adventure. The next evening as it started to rain we lit the log burner and had cheese and biscuits while playing games alongside the yummy Fireside Tipple (which we have now had to buy) and just enjoyed some lovely quality family time. We loved having the company of Conker and Pumpkin the Cats, who really did provide a good bit of entertainment. Jane you have created such a wonderful, humble and magical Cabin, everything has been so well thought out. We enjoyed it that much we have booked again for next year already.
26/10/2023Ami

Our stay at Halvana forest shed was just beautiful! It was everything we had hoped for and more. We went as a family of 5 and it catered for us all. The kids enjoyed den building and roasting marshmellows on the fire pit, whilst we sat back in the peaceful surroundings and enjoyed some treats from the local farm shop!
23/08/2023Emily
Wonderfully peaceful and calm. A beautiful cabin in the woods.
12/08/2023Anna
We chose Halvana Forest Shed for our ‘mini-moon’ and it was the perfect place to relax after all the excitement of our wedding day. It was everything we hoped for….. and more. The perfect ‘get away from it all’ cabin experience. We didn’t want to leave!
27/07/2023Jan
Fantastic, rustic, perfect for a couple of days chilling
08/07/2023Jenni
Prior to getting married, we knew we wanted to say somewhere a little quirky for our honeymoon and this was just the place. Right on the outskirts of bodmin moors, the incredible shed catered for everything we needed both day and night come rain or shine. After a busy day exploring we returned to the shed and settled for the evening - sitting out by the fire toasting marshmallows, sitting under the shelter sipping tea while the rain drizzled on the fields we overlooked or even sitting upstairs in the mezzanine playing Rummikub listening to the wildlife at night making its calls. This was the place to be! I honestly don't think we could have picked a more perfect location, and the host Jane was brilliant and one of the nicest people you could meet. We were blessed to be here for the 5 nights we had. Highly recommended The Shed.
17/06/2023Michaela
Perfect shed for a weekend break. The location was quiet, surrounded by trees, and away from the road and the shed itself was amazingly decorated and well equipped
09/06/2023Tobias
We had a wonderful stay at Halvana Forest Shed. The lodge was cozy, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The surroundings were serene and tranquil, and the forest views were breathtaking. We had a very friendly pair of cats join us near the fire pit in the evening + the family horse and a couple of sheep. Thank you for providing such a lovely retreat. We look forward to returning soon!
06/05/2023Rob
We had a wonderful weekend at Halvana Forest Shed. The space is tranquil and charming with loads of well thought out details to make it extra special. We loved roasting marshmallows over the fire-pit, playing board games, watching the wildlife and relaxing in the hammock. Our two boys loved their little hideaway at the top and enjoyed den building and feeding the horse in the field next door.
29/04/2023Betty
We absolutely loved staying here. All the extra little touches, welcome treats, extra games and entertainment. We wanted for nothing whilst staying here. We left feeling rested, relaxed which isnt easy with a 5 year old in tow. We will definitely be back.
03/04/2023Rea
We had a wonderful time at the Forest Shed, we loved every minute! Jane’s generosity and attention to detail is second to none and made our stay memorable in all the best ways.
26/03/2023Chloe
Beautiful location, lovely decor, great space. You can tell the host has a vision and it is wonderful to see it fulfilled so fully.
24/03/2023Francis
It was wonderful, the property was very clean and had nearly everything we needed for our stay! Wonderful location and the perfect place to escape for a few days! our host was courteous and on hand, for anything we may have needed, which we didn't! We think this is one of the best places we've stayed over the years! Couldn't recommend it enough!
21/03/2023Josh
Our stay was very peaceful and the shed was even nicer than we imaged when we saw the pictures of it before we got there. There were so many more little details that made our stay even more enjoyable. Also we had a lovely walk around the forest during one of the lovely sunny days.
13/03/2023Jacob
Quiet location with lots of walking routes. Slept very well in a comfortable bed. Shower and bathroom in general was clean. Lots of little treasures lying around the place mailing it quite unique. Unfortunately the weather turned out horrible one of the days causing us to stop our walk early. Came back to the shed warmed up by the log burner, netflix, snacks and chilled l.
10/03/2023Charlotte
Absolutely Amazing! As far as cosy cabins in the woods go, this is a sure winner. The cabin itself was warm, cosy and felt like home. It has everything you need to make your stay relaxing with wood for the log burner, marshmallows and popcorn for a night round the fire pit and the underfloor heating and fresh coffee beans makes getting out of the very comfy bed much easier. The location was perfect with the breath taking surrounding forest on your doorstep and shops and beaches only a short drive. We are already planning our next trip to Halvana Forest Shed.
03/03/2023Dom
Lovely relaxing stay in a perfect cosy hideaway in the woods. Loads of lovely little touches. Really enjoyed filling the bird feeders and watching all the birds from the cosy sofa. Stayed with our 5 month old and was a perfect first holiday with her.
19/02/2023Charlotte
Halvana has its own microclimate & habitat like no other. We absolutely loved staying at a 'cabin in the woods' - the history, the wood, the games, the fire & animals all gave us a wonderful pause in such a busy life. Thank you.
10/02/2023Helen
We had an amazing stay. The Forest Shed was beautiful and homely, with all of the extra little things such as the hot chocolates with extras, toiletries, and board games included making us feel very welcome. Jane was a lovely host who was really easy to talk to and always available if you needed any help with anything.
26/01/2023Catiya
We had a lovely stay at Halvana. It's a gorgeous place to stay, really cosy, well resourced, beautifully decorated and a very thoughtful touch of a little local tipple left for our arrival! We also visited the local Distillery and took some back with us! A very relaxing, peaceful stay.
13/01/2023Nick
The most magical place to spend a cosy Christmas. Jane went above and beyond to make the shed feel festive and our stay as special as possible; she really did think of everything. The cabin is surrounded by the forest so perfect for walking straight from the doorstep and then coming back to a roaring fire and Christmas dinner - the kitchen has everything you need to make an incredible roast! By far one of my favourite C&S places to stay ever. Thank you so much, Jane x
23/12/2022Ellie
Just Wow! What a truly amazing place with the most incredible hosts! The Halvana shed was 'Hygge' personified and felt like something out of a movie, especially once we were snowed in and the whole surroundings were a blanket of snow, including the incredible Forest which is literally on the doorstep. When we arrived at the shed the fire and Christmas tree were lit and there were thoughtful little touches everywhere you looked, including some delicious fireside tipple. We booked an extra night on our stay, partly because of the snow but mostly because we just never wanted to leave.it's the most relaxed we've felt in a long time. Hot chocolates by the fire, playing games in the amazing cosy Mezzanine, walks in the woods and just relaxing watching the beautiful birds and nature all around us. It's a holiday that we will never forget. Jane has created an amazing place to go and relax in the most cosy and beautiful surroundings. We can't thank you enough Jane for being a host that goes above and beyond and for you and your husband for helping to tow us out on our last day! Thank you
12/12/2022Lauren
Halvana Forest Shed exceeded all my expectations. Jane's communication was excellent, keeping in frequent contact by email but also leaving the stay to be very private. Jane created the most wonderful arrival experience, fire lit, music playing, twinkling lights everywhere, it was like walking in to a film set! Absolutely everything you can think of is provided as well as lots of things you'd never think of. The indoor and outdoor spaces were perfect with extras provided to make the most of it whatever the weather. waking up on Saturday to snow and being able to walk a few metres to the Plantation was like being in Narnia. The cabin was comfy and warm and very well resourced. it felt very private although there were dog walkers going into the forest occasionally. otherwise it was just me, the horse, the two brown sheep and an owl

We had a very cosy stay at the Halvana forest shed. lovely location right on the edge of the forest. The inside was incredible with all the amazing decor. Everything was just perfect, we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. Jane supplied us with lots of nice treats to have around the fire which was so thoughtful. I'd definitely recommend staying at Halvana forest shed to anyone looking for a secluded, cosy getaway.

We were on our mini moon and the shed was perfect. Rustic and charming. Everything was thought of. Little homely touches everywhere. Jane the host also left us some goodies for our arrival! The shed was clean, quiet with beautiful views. We would love to go back soon. We enjoyed a tranquil walk in the forest and a short drive to cafes/beaches.

What a beautiful place Halvana Shed is - the shed itself is gorgeous, thoughtfully decorated and kitted out with everything you could want to enjoy a peaceful, relaxing break from your everyday hussle and bussle. Our small humans loved the swing and hammock as well as their lofty bedroom, they amused themselves with simpler things like bug hunting, feeding the chickens, reading and board games. We had everything we needed, the location is stunning with the impressive forest as the view from the kitchen sink, the porch is a wonderful late afternoon suntrap and the shed itself is cool and welcoming, with a very calm atmosphere. The long bumpy drive off the main road to the shed was a little daunting (the first time we drove up) but that also added to the feeling of being away and once done didn't phase us so much.

We had such a lovely time! The Halvana Forest Shed is gorgonians, with so many little touches that make your stay. We played solitaire marbles, flicked through the cornish magazines and maps, lounged in the hammock and lazed on the porch, enjoyed the fire pit, and so much more!! We also made the most of the location and went for a walk in the woods nearby and had a few day trips to explore cornwall. The host’s kindness and hospitality is second to none, she left us some arrival goodies and was extremely responsive and helpful throughout. Highly recommend a visit here!!
25/07/2022Laura
The halvana forest shed was absolutely fantastic. It was fully equipped with everything you could need including kitchen equipment, firewood, kindling, lighters and fire starters, blankets, grilling utensils and marshmallows. When we arrived there were freshly baked scones waiting for us from the very kind owners. The area was perfect with plenty of walks nearby and everything was just a short drive away. Very clean and spacious. Overall we had an amazing time and we would definitely recommend! Many thanks

We had a lovely long weekend at Halvana Forest Shed. The location is beautiful, the shed was absolutely amazing. Jane and Paul were wonderful hosts, so friendly and accomodating. The shed was full of thoughtful touches, from the strawberries and Pimms left for us on arrival to the books and games dotted throughout the cabin. We also loved being around the animals, watching the chickens and sheep wander around. The perfect getaway!

We had such a lovely stay at Halvana Forest Shed. There were so many thoughtful details throughout and we had everything we could possibly need to make our stay relaxing and comfortable. Jane was very helpful and always available if we needed anything, whilst also giving us our privacy. The location was perfect to explore Cornwall, but the Forest Shed was also a great place to spend time kicking back, connecting with nature and enjoy! Would highly recommend.

A delightful weekend break! Such a lovely mixture of adventure and comfort, we loved waking up in the morning to the moors and the horses! The firepit provided amazing warmth and the Marshmallows added a real sense of camping to the experience. Situated perfectly to explore Cornwall I would highly recommend this again - 5*!!

What a wonderful stay we just had at Halvana. Jane is the greatest host and her love and thought can be seen all around the cabin. This place has everything you could need and more! We absolutely loved sitting outside under the shelter, wrapped up warm, listening to the birds and the rain! The mezzanine was a favourite spot too for watching the birds from and the friendly squirrel! You could never get bored here with all of the books and games inside and exploring the forest that's on your doorstep is a must! Completely magical place. Can't wait to come back already!

We had a lovely couple of nights in the beautiful forest shed. The middle day was a bit of a wash out but this just gave us the perfect excuse to stay indoors by the wood burner! Having coffee in the morning watching the goldfinches breakfasting on pine cones was another highlight :)

We chose Halvana Forest Shed for our ‘mini-moon’ and it was the perfect place to relax after all the excitement of our wedding day. It was everything we hoped for….. and more. The perfect ‘get away from it all’ cabin experience. We didn’t want to leave!

Fantastic, rustic, perfect for a couple of days chilling

We had a lovely stay at Halvana. It's a gorgeous place to stay, really cosy, well resourced, beautifully decorated and a very thoughtful touch of a little local tipple left for our arrival! We also visited the local Distillery and took some back with us! A very relaxing, peaceful stay.

Thank you
