Overview
Set just between Bradford-on-Avon and Bath, Abel’s Cabin, named after the owner’s great great grandfather, is the one of the latest in a long line of glamping spaces on Campwell farm. Owner Tim, set up Campwell farm in 2014, with the modern glamper in mind, having spent his previous years working between London and Hong Kong, but travelling widely and camping in his spare time. This experience shows in his spaces, with Abel’s Cabin having stripped-back features that highlight how small the list of needs are when you’re living off-grid. This space is for adventurers, with only beds, shelves, coat hooks and the bare essentials for the kitchen indoors, though there are USB charging points for those missing their devices. Outside the space you’ll find an array of cooking options for anything you’ve gathered from Hartley Farm shop half a mile away, or the village shop which is a further quarter of a mile - a fire pit for grilling, rocket stove for a sizzling sauté. You’ll also find the woodfired outdoor bath for relaxing after a day out exploring or the hammock, ready for afternoon naps gazing up into the canopy.
Off grid, Abel’s Cabin has a private compost loo nearby, and both outdoor and covered showers in a block close to the cabin shared with the other spaces on site. However, should you fancy some more advanced creature comforts, there’s the main farm buildings half a mile down the road where you can take a swim in the indoor heated swimming pool or a have go in the games room. If car-less and looking to explore the locale, hire a boat to discover the Limpley Stoke valley, or take the bike for a spin down the canal towpath. For those who drove, pop out a little further and day trip to nearby Bath or Bradford-On-Avon.

About the family
After spending time in both London and Hong Kong, it was time for owner Tim to return home to the West Country. The farm has been in the family for 5 generations. Being the 5th generation at Church Farm, he felt it was time to begin developing the farm for the modern consumer. An adventurous traveller himself, camping and new experiences out in the wilderness were something he lived for. Opening up his own camp on the farm made a lot of sense as he felt it was ideally located for people looking for a truly natural escape with so much on the doorstep, such as the World Heritage site of Bath (just 5 miles away).
The land has been in the Bowles family for 5 generations and the camp sits at the highest point of Church Farm, in a beautiful young woodland. The camp is set back away from civilisation, main roads and even the country lane to create a great feeling of seclusion. However, the neighbouring farm shop and cafe, the village pub and farm facilities are just a short distance away.
Wildlife & the environment
The wildlife is in abundance, with regular spottings of deer, buzzards, birds and occasionally badgers and foxes at night. In the neighbouring fields, you will see the sheep grazing.
A green-ethos is diligently practiced here, with solar lighting (the site is off grid), waste recycling and compost loos. Best of all, you'll be in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of the Cotswolds.
