Overview
This fairy-tale cabin is reached by land but perched on a wooden platform extending over its own pond and the whole thing was crafted by hand! The sunny space is filled with little works of art, from the charming tree stump coffee table to the paper lanterns and the pastel ceramics for your morning café-au-lait. There’s a magical skylight over the romantic canopied double bed so you can lay back and invent new constellations across the clear skies and wake up with the sun.
There's a sofa, a wood burning stove and a dining table that’s perfect for candlelit suppers. A sink sits atop an oak trunk in the shower room and if you fling open the big French doors you can shower in the open air looking out onto the maple groves. You’ll spot no one but deer in the woods, so don’t be shy! Outside, along with comfy sun loungers, there's a moveable table so you can picnic under the shade of the veranda round the back or have an aperitif looking out over the pond as night falls.
You can row a boat across the lake that sits in the middle of Terre et Toi or walk through the buttercup field in spring. Or for further afield there are bikes to take out for rides in the countryside and you can walk to the local village where there’s a bar and a restaurant.

Wildlife & Environment
All the rooms at Terre et Toi are built only with natural materials, and in fact all building and farming here is done organically and in harmony with nature, leaving woodland and meadows as home to a whole range of wildlife. Dragonflies and butterflies, herons, kingfishers and buzzards can often be seen as well as many deer in the woods. There is 130 acres of woodland which provides all firewood from tree fall and dead wood, so no trees are cut! You can also enjoy wild swimming in the lake.

It was incredible! We hired a car and drove from Bordeaux, and it's in the middle of nowhere - we felt we had the cabin completely to ourselves. The shower overlooks the woods and there is an outside eco loo which was brilliant, we chilled in a hammock and genuinely looked forward to a quiet night in eating amazing French bread and cheese and drinking even more amazing wine from the places we'd visited during the daytime - Bergerac, Saint-Emilion, all glorious. It now feels like a dream, it was just heaven.

My partner and I stayed in Caru Cabin for two nights in mid-June and had a wonderful stay. Sara was very helpful (particularly that we arrived on a bank holiday and there wasn't a single open store around!) and gave us routes to walk and ideas of places to see that we didn't know about. The cabin itself is easy to find, although you definitely need a car. Inside was everything we needed, and stayed warm and cosy even without the fire being lit inside. Waking up to the view over the small lake was such a treat.

It was a magical weekend!! the place is just incredible and Sara was so nice and friendly with us! There are many beautiful spots around the place to discover, so it is just perfect for a 2-3 day weekend!

Our stay was wonderful - beautiful weather, relaxing secluded environment - perfect for a couple of days away from city life!! Sara is a welcoming host but leaves you to your own devices. We spent days eating and enjoying the sun and night times stargazing (even saw some shooting stars!) and relaxing by the log burner playing card games. you could shower and stare into the woodlands too!

Wonderful location, just an hour from Bordeaux and a perfect centre point for visiting th area. Sara was a wonderful host, there if we needed her but not around too much. Perfect week to go off the grid and relax in nature.

Fantastic unique quiet place where you really do just relax and feel away from from it all. Sarah is very helpful & accommodating. The cabin itself is very romantic for a couple looking to spend time away alone and has everythinf you need for basic stay. This is not a place to go if you rely on your phone & normal everyday entertainment, the cabin has no electricity but it is possible to use the facilities of the main house. We enjoyed the peace and quiet whilst watching the fish jump out of the private lake and a daily visit from turtles. We would thoroughly recommend this property or any of the others that Sarah offers. There is a small bar in a village approx 5 min drive away but we would highly recommend the restaurant Sarah can book on your behalf in a village approx a 15 min drive away. There is also a larger town approx 15 mins drive away which has a large supermarket with all you need to stock up.

Just got back from our honeymoon at Caru Cabin and it was even more beautiful and peaceful than I could have imagined! Sara, the owner, is so friendly and helpful and asks guests not to wander uninvited to areas around each cabin, so you have total seclusion if you want it. We loved having a private area and lake to ourselves, where we could go skinny dipping and laze on our raft. Inside is bigger than I expected although we spent most of our time out on the veranda, as it was so gorgeous. The local village is a ten minute walk, but if you want to venture further afield you can use a hire car or get a cab. Sara and her lovely helpful neighbour Pierre gave excellent recommendations for the area. Check out l'imparfait restaurant and Francois patisserie in Bergerac, they offer absolutely divine food and cakes! The cabin has given us the best memories of our special time together and we just love what Sara has created. Must say, if you want to hang out with other guests, there is a main house with a pizza oven which works as a lovely meeting point. Plus there is the main lake with a boat that you can hang out on too. Just a piece of heaven on earth, cannot recommend it enough!

We had the most incredibly relaxing stay at Caru Cabin. The location was fantastic and we were able to enjoy some lovely days out. We went Kayaking on the Dordogne river and had an amazing meal in Bergerac. But the most special part of the holiday was the Cabin itself. Sara was incredibly accommodating and provided everything you could need. We swam In the lake and even saw a load of carp and some turtles. We will definitely be back as soon as possible.

It was absolutely fantastic! A really magical place - we just couldn't have asked for a better stay (well, maybe a little less rain...)

Simply amazing holiday. It would be difficult to imagine a more relaxing and grounding holiday. We will be back for sure.

Absolutely wonderful....peace...silence...no people.....idyllic surroundings. very special romantic hideaway...perfect retreat from the world. The wildlife was abundant with bats and birds, fish, turtles and deer. Being off grid, but just enough comforts to feel pampered.....like hot water showers and some lovely home cooked bread...gluten free too. Highly recommended

An amazing and romantic week in a gorgeous cabin. Very quiet place where you can keep yourself to yourself but ask for help from Sara, the fab host, if necessary. I worried about no A/C - completely unnecessary as it cooled down enough in the evening to easily be able to sleep, and was hot in the day but not so hot that it was horribly uncomfortable. I also worried about midges - none. The lake the cabin is situated on is home to many fish, an amazing family of water voles that we saw every night and you get many a sunbathing lizard on the deck. It has a lovely camping stove which we cooked on every night - there's a great supermarket nearby in Sainte Foy le Grande. All in all, a lovely location (near enough to a few towns and a drive from Bordeaux) but not so close that it was at all busy, great host, and a clean and functional cabin made for a fab week.

We stayed at Caru Cabin while myself and my partner where on a mini travel of France over three weeks. We decided to stay here for a little adventure and to experience the wilderness. The cabin was situated on a small pond surrounded by wild life. We had such an amazing time relaxing and switching off from the world and our little dog Pop loved splashing in the lake too.

We stayed in Caru Cabin for a week for our honeymoon in October. We cannot praise this place highly enough. It it beautifully cosy haven surrounded by trees on one side and it's own pond on the other. Perfect combination of comfort (lovely hot shower) and outdoors living. We had a morning swim in the pond each day and spent a lot of time relaxing on the deck or cooking outside. A truly relaxing holiday. Sara was extremely helpful and her cooking was fabulous, also a godsend for two vegetarians visiting France! We would love to return.

We spent a very peaceful week at the Caru Cabin. Reading, admiring the view and the occasional adventure to a nearby chateau for wine sampling, and beautiful towns Saint Emilion and Bergerac. Twas perfect!
12/09/2015Sophie
We absolutely loved our stay at Caru Cabin. Sara has created something magical; a tranquil place to go on mini-adventures in the surrounding woodland, to go swimming in the lake or simply to lounge on the jetty and immerse yourself in a good book. The cabin is totally private, it was lovely to hear the sound of the wind in the trees with our only visitors being Mr Lizard basking on the decking and some butterflies fluttering by the flowers. A two minute stroll and we arrive at the main lake were many hours were spent swimming and reading and picnicking. Suppers were spent either at the local cafe/restaurant, a pleasant bicycle rise to the nearby village, or enjoying Sara's delicious vegetarian meals using vegetables straight from her organic garden. We left feeling incredibly inspire. Thank you Sara, we shall definitely be coming back.
