The hardest thing about this selection, wasn't finding places people have gone for an anniversary, it was narrowing down the list to a few. An anniversary, as you well know, is about forgetting everything else that’s going on, and celebrating moments distraction-free, in a beautiful setting. Get back to the basics, and share a few days away savouring the slow life together, where the only hardship is whose turn it is to cook breakfast. With those incredible moments in mind – here are a few of our favourites:
You’ll feel very privileged to be here, whatever the weather. The design is a triumph, born of passion and built with love. Even when it’s raining you can still eat outdoors and bathe outdoors, all under cover and romantic, with the patter of rain on the roof. On the decking you can poach yourselves in the round bath surrounded by plants and soft lighting. All you will hear is birdsong, nobody is overlooking you, the feel will be pure Adam and Eve.
'We had an amazing weekend at Ursabear for our wedding anniversary. Such a beautiful cabin in a relaxing, countryside location. We enjoyed a weekend of campfires, walks, country pubs and big bubble baths!’ – Laura
The moment Gosling Lodge comes into view as you round the corner of the gravel track, you start to relax. A pocket of trees screen the cabin and its pond from view, leaving you alone with the meadow and the hills beyond crossed only by a distant, quiet road. Lounging on the veranda or the sofa by the wood burner, you sink into a dreamlike state of ease. On sunny days, you can splash around in the boat, but even in chillier weather, the covered porch and the cosy cabin itself are lovely spots to curl up and let the day drift by.
‘Katie had created something so special there, we wouldn’t usually return to the same place twice but we will most definitely visit gosling lodge again. To top it all off we spent our first night star gazing and saw tons of shooting stars! It was the perfect place to spend our first wedding anniversary. Thank you!’ – Amy
In its own private woodland at Downash Wood, Coddiwomple Cabin sits with views of Bewl Water and a sense of nature, privacy and freedom that makes the city feel a lifetime away. Even when you’re idling at the cabin, you’ll find yourself surrounded by nature, with birds, butterflies, pheasants, badgers and more thriving in the carefully managed woodlands, and sometimes lambs in the neighbouring fields. However you spend your days, you’ll come back to fire up the tub and soak surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature.
‘Our stay was lovely despite the weather! The cabin was clean cosy and there were delicious treats on arrival. The layout was really good. A lovely experience and place that will be forever in our memories as it is where my partner proposed!’ – Lauren
We came here for myself and my boyfriends anniversary and it was absolutely gorgeous. The cabin itself is perfect for two people, and the hot tub was bloody glorious… the view of the trees in the morning out of the big window was so lovely I could have stayed there all day.' – Chloe
The Nest is perfectly located and designed to give you a break with a little bit of everything, from adventure on the coast or scenic hikes, to calm and indulgence as you soak in the hot tub and watch for the deer. The views are incredible, stretching all the way to Exmoor over miles of hills and fields. Outside you’ll find the firepit where you can try out your flame-grilling skills, and the hot tub, perfect for steaming out the tension and watching the stunning stars above.
‘This was a 20th anniversary trip, and we wanted something special. The Nest didn't disappoint! We arrived to find the hot tub wood burner already alight, and a delicious treat on the side. The weather wasn't great, but it hardly made a difference. The view was stunning, and we had everything that we needed. We saw Claire and Brad briefly, and they were both delightful. Two nights wasn't really long enough!’ – Jez
The colour and light of this romantic retreat are a beautiful blend of art and craft, which is what you’d expect in a cabin built by an artist and a craftsman. Nick made most of the furniture and Dolly’s creativity brings the colour, along with a scattering of finds from their life in Mexico and extensive travels. Just outside the cabin you’ll find Jackson’s stand out feature, the private wood-fired hot tub surrounded by trees and shrubbery in a corner of the garden. With the lanterns lit and the stars out above you, a late night soak adds an extra dash of magic to a restorative, romantic break.
‘Our stay was perfect. The cabin and Nick made our first wedding anniversary even more special. We enjoyed starlit hot tubs, swimming in the sea and ultimately enjoying the peace and tranquility which is hard to avoid at these beautiful cabins. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back!’ – Danielle
The clue’s in the name – the wagon sits on a hilltop in front of a view of the Black Mountains you have to see to believe. You can enjoy it any way you like, from sitting on the log seats or lazing in the hammock and deck chairs, to pulling the cover off the hot tub sunk into the deck and sliding into the steaming water. Stepping into the wagon, you'll be surprised at how much space you have just for two. You can sit inside and look through the big double doors, one of the subtle touches of modernity that make the wagon a cosy space while retaining its classic charm. The atmosphere of the wagon, invites you to switch off for a little, or at least only switch on the things that will add to your relaxing stay.
'I cannot rate this place high enough. My wife and I have used about 4 canopy and stars places now, although all have been fantastic, this one tops them all so far. We will definitely be booking somewhere through you again as we continue our anniversary adventures to stay in stunning out of the box places. And where ever we stay next the bar is set dramatically high to match up to the wagon above the world.' – Adam
Cradled in the elbow of a valley, it looks out on the sloping edges of a vale, where meadow and field meet pine forest, and if you thought the views were good from the dramatic picture window, you should try gazing at it from the electric hot tub on the deck. Waking up here you’ll spend your time forgetting your woes, padding about and relaxing in its regal trimmings; cracking open the French doors to let the Welsh air roll in with the morning sunshine. And if you can’t find the will to leave at all, just lie in the copper bathtub at the foot at your bed, and forget what stress feels like entirely.
‘We stayed over New Year / our 3rd wedding anniversary. We wanted something relaxing and romantic. We didn’t intend to leave the place we were staying much as we wanted to enjoy the space and we definitely enjoyed the space of oaken fort. The attention to detail and design is amazing.’ – Erin
