Overview
The good solid bones of this little cabin were affectionately crafted by botanist Rachel and tree surgeon Mike, whose warm welcomes feel totally relaxed and unscripted.
Down a rough track and through wonderful wilderness, you'll find The Sleepout; a cosy cabin where a wooden ladder leads from the small sitting area up to a sleeping den. We love the magic of climbing up to the little nook and, other than a bunch of sweet peas, a welcome basket and a pile of logs for the wood burner, there are no knick-knacks to crowd up the sleeping space; just a bed, pale wool throws, and the stars. Without neighbours close by, the windows are left naked and you don’t feel like you are inside at all, but rather staring into the Milky Way while soaking into the hot tub, or floating along with the clouds. It doesn't hurt that you’re perched slap bang in the midst of the Welsh valleys either. Who wouldn't want to spend time up there?
Rachel and Mike provide delicious Welsh cakes for you to snack on and the camp kitchen with a few pots and pans, a fire bowl, gas burner and pizza oven is perfect for heating up your morning café au lait or preparing light suppers. You can swim in or cycle by the nearby river, and for a post-exploration rinse off, the onsite private hot shower is just nearby The Sleepout, and the compost loo with a cool rally car door is even closer than that.

We had such a lovely stay at the Sleepout. The woodwork and craftsmanship is just amazing, alongside the setting and all the little touches. We would love to come back!

Beautiful views, unique design and remote, nature forward off grid experience.
06/06/2024Darcy
We had a wonderful stay at the Sleepout. The pictures do not do this justice - it is unbelievably beautiful, completely quiet and isolated and in your own little paradise. Everything was thought of and Rachel&Mikes attention to detail was outstanding. We were incredibly impressed, the dogs loved it as much as we did and we will definitely go again.

We had a lovely stay at the sleepout. The location is beautiful and care had been taken to ensure we had everything we needed, even down to the games provided. We brought two dogs and they had a fab time too!
26/04/2024Emma
It was cozy and relaxing, just what we were looking for.

We had the most beautiful stay. We've 'glamped' before, but this was beyond our imagination and expectations. It is entirely self-contained with literally everything provided for bar food and clothes - cannot emphasise how easy this made the experience. In October, the outdoor fire and indoor wood burner kept us beautifully warm. The bed was comfortable, the site was secluded and private, and adorably adorned with fairy lights. There are plenty of beautiful walks accessible from the site. The outdoor shower and toilet tower are clean and a nice quirk. I honestly feel this is an absolute gem and totally see why people get engaged and honeymoon there. Get some champagne and toast some marshmallows under the stars. Highly recommend the shop near the parking area too for some local souvenirs. Thank you Rachel and Mike!

Dreamy! Amazing views. Everything was made with love.

My boyfriend and I (and our dog) spent three nights at The Sleepout and had an absolutely amazing time. The cabin is super cosy, the bed very comfortable and the kitchen is equipped with everything you might need to cook all your meals - including the basic ingredients needed to make pizza dough! The views over the valley are stunning and we spent many hours just sitting in front of the fire pit, gazing into the distance and listening to audio books. There are also plenty of places to walk nearby, including woodland and hills, so we had no need to drive anywhere during our stay. We braved using the wood-fired pizza oven too, which was pretty time consuming, but the results were well worth the effort! All in all, we absolutely recommend this place and would happily come back again.

Excellent accommodation and location

We have a lovely 3 nights in the Sleepout. The photos don’t do the beauty of the place and the view justice. It’s a great place to chill out and escape
26/05/2023Darren
We had a fabulous time staying at the sleepout. The place was idyllic, and all amenities had been thought of. There were so many nice touches around the place. The pizza oven was great fun, and my husband enjoyed chopping the wood each day for the fires. The view from the bed was absolutely spectacular and to wake up each morning with that view we felt very special. All in all we left feeling totally relaxed. Our dog also very much enjoyed her time sunbathing in the day, and sleeping by the fire at night.

Perfectly amazing. Every part of the stay was brilliant and the place was testament to the hard work of the owners

Fantastic. The beauty and the peacefulness of the location. The beautiful craftsmanship of the Sleepout. The extra touches. The comfort. The views. The helpfulness of the hosts. The privacy

A wonderful few days unplugging and switching off, walking amongst the glorious countryside listening to the wildlife. Perfect
29/08/2022Dawn
It was fantastic. Beautiful place and peaceful.

We had such a wonderful stay at The Sleepout recently. The handbook from the owners gave us everything we could possibly know about our stay. The hand-built accommodation is beautifully crafted with such unique details added. The outdoor kitchen has everything you need and the hand-built pizza oven is a must try! We would 100% recommend The Sleepout to anyone looking to getaway from it all and relax in the Welsh countryside.
25/07/2022Hannah
Myself and my partner stayed for a long weekend (Friday-Monday). We stayed during an extreme heat wave, the forest cover and shade surrounding the cabin was perfect for us to stay cool. In a completely secluded area this was absolutely perfect for us to fully relax. Once we arrived we didn't feel the need to leave the beautiful site, and instead enjoyed the view with a book each. The owner was very helpful upon arrival, their contact numbers were provided and we could contact them if needed, as we didn't require their services we were left completely alone during our stay.
15/07/2022Isabel
If you want to go off grid for a few days, there's no better place to do it! Accommodation is seriously first class, created with great skill and ingenuity; a very comfortable retreat, offering privacy and the most breathtaking views. We're already trying to work out when we can return!
24/06/2022Amanda
We had the most fantastic stay at the Sleepout. Everything was provided for, the cabin was beautiful and so unique! We were blessed with the weather and it was a slice of heaven, all the grounds were beautifully maintained. Instructions were left with what to do with different things eg the compost toilet and how to use the wood fired pizza oven. I will definitely be recommending to others and hopefully return!
21/06/2022Maria
We had the most relaxing, happy few days at The Sleepout. Secluded, amazing hikes and scenery nearby, and really beautiful.
02/05/2022Jamie
We arrived in the gorgeous Welsh countryside up a small road to our secluded little wooden home for the 4 nights. The Sleepout is a thing of beuty and amazing craftsmanship where every detail and sittuation is thought of from a lovely sheltered kitchen and Pizza oven to a carefully placed umbrella for walking a few paces to the toilet where the views and peacefulness are as good as the Sleepouts. This was a Birthday/anniversary Suprise for my Fiance and she had fell in love with the place within minutes it felt like our new home. We had a small wander down hill to the village about 30 minutes away to a nice pub The Kings head, lovely staff, food and drinks. The walk back is great to with the gorgeous views over the river and nature all around! There was a lovely countryside walk too, pack a picnic and enjoy on the hill looking over a small lake the other side of the woods. We where very sad to leave this place and even spoke of selling up and moving to place like this. Would come back any time and recommend to everyone after this Hobbit style Glamping.

The Sleepout is beautifully designed and crafted. We arrived in the dark and the fire had been lit which really helped us feel welcome.
28/12/2021Stella
Had a wonderful stay, pure relaxation
17/12/2021Phil
The stay was bought as a gift for my parents. They loved it. Both said they felt very relaxed, the views were beautiful and it was nice to shut off the rest of the world. They would definitely stay again.
12/11/2021Charlotte
What an amazing time we had :-) When we first arrived we wasn't sure if it was for us (being city people, never even having camped before lol). From learning how to light a fire and keep it going, through to outside facilities as well as pure darkness, were certainly experiences. Waking up to fantastic views, clean fresh air was amazing, with one of the most comfortable sleeps, mattress was perfect, even invested in one for home. Even the trip from the shower with only a towel was so refreshing. Don't get me wrong I know many of my friends wouldn't have stayed, but for us it was the perfect adventure, Peace & tranquillity are the only words to describe it, such a fantastic stay, we will be booking again.
21/10/2021MARGARET
It was absolutely beautiful! The handiwork of the building was incredible, the overall feel of staying in nature was just lovely (I lived on a farm as a child but have since moved to the city). It was such a positive experience for me and my new husband as our first ever holiday together (5 years waiting for this!). We loved every moment, the chopping of wood, roasting of marshmallows and making of pizza! We explored the local area and enjoyed our time playing games at the cabin and enjoying life away from the buzz of society!
12/09/2021Gemma
There are hardly words for this place …… it is so special in so many ways
25/08/2021Karyn
We had the most wonderful, relaxing time at the Sleepout. It truely is a magical place to chill and reset yourself after the stresses of everyday life. Couldnt believe how clean everything was considering it was mostly outdoors. Loved every minute
18/08/2021Vicki-lee
Had a great stay at the sleep out - the cabin was remote and peaceful, with everything we could need. We loved the log fire in the cabin and the pizza stove outside. The utilities for cooking were well stocked, and all the practicalities had been thought about meaning our stay was easy and relaxing.
05/08/2021Clare
We stayed at Dragons Cruk back in May and loved it, so we decided to try The Sleepout, and you know what we loved it even more. Such a tranquil place, and quiet , so quiet it makes you feel new again
23/07/2021Graham
We had a wonderful stay in Sunnylea, Meifod. Fantastic location, facilities and warm (socially distanced) welcome from host. Would highly recommend for those looking for a quiet place to reflect and recharge.
02/07/2021Jade
The Sleepout is amazing! The beauty of the location and the craftsmanship of the hut are out of this world. We love this place. It was our second visit and enjoyed the peace privacy and tranquility just as much as we did on our first stay
29/06/2021Suzanne
We had the most relaxing 4 days at the Sleepout. The setting is just perfect. Your view from the high bed of the countryside is spectacular. Short and pleasant walks to both the outside toilet and shower. We were lucky to have had amazing weather. We cooked pizzas in the pizza oven and toasted marshmallows on the fire pit. Saw the owners briefly on our walks to and from the car, they were both very friendly and welcoming. We also enjoyed a relaxed hours walk around the woods behind the house before lunch one day. All in all a very chilled out experience. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a break from daily life.
31/05/2021Roz
Excellent stay. Fantastic and magical place. Matched all expectations ...which were very high as your website and marketing was so good! Very impressed by the quality of the site and accommodation, the attention to detail and loved being off grid and great shower/compost loo and general set up. Great location. Very private.
28/05/2021David
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful 3 days at the sleepout. Despite some very wet and windy weather, the sleepout was cosy and warm with the log burner and plenty of blankets and candles. Rachel and Mike have thought of every little detail very well and were always available to help with all our queries. The place has very unique touches and is designed beautifully, including the outdoor shower and compost loo. We can't wait to return!
18/05/2021Dona
The sleepout is a very special place. Rachel and Mike have created a real haven. Everything from the private compost toilet (which doesn’t smell at all!), private shower with a view! To the well equipped kitchen area, is unique and beautifully crafted. The bed is very comfortable, I’ll miss my morning coffee in bed looking out at the amazing Welsh hills. Rachel and Mike are lovely host’s and were always quick to answer any questions we might’ve had and provide local knowledge if needed.
13/04/2021Tracy
A beautiful set up in the welsh Countryside. Very private, brilliantly built and super cosy. Loved the location with the track through the woods to get you there. Outside kitchen was immense. Get ready to make fires! I was doing 3 different ones per night. All part of the experience. We had a truly wonderful time.
09/11/2020Chris
It had been a tiresome 5 hour car journey due to hold ups and road closures, but as soon as we drove up the steep track into the woods, I knew we were leaving the stress, chaos and noise behind. The track opened out to a magnificent topiary hedge, the first indication that this was no ordinary place. There are examples of quirky, artistry everywhere; some hidden to be discovered and I think these little, joyous surprises are what elevates this location to being quite magical. There is a short walk from the parking to the cabin through an apple orchard and then a small wooded lane, The anticipation grew to see it for the first time. Then we were presented with a spectacular view. This was everything I had imagined and more. We explored around a bit, like children playing hide and seek, to find the outdoor toilet and the shower. I'm a designer and I appreciated the way things had been lovingly made with clever resourcefulness of natural materials and exquisite attention to detail. As we had arrived much later than expected, we began to realise we were in a race against the fading daylight. Fires, lanterns had to be lit and get the pizza oven going fast, all part of the fun!
16/10/2020HEATHER
We had an amazing time time! It rained for the first two days, but there was a covered kitchen area where we could hang out, and we hd the burner on in he cabin where we could read.
02/10/2020Lucy
The cabin was absolutely beautiful. The view was spectacular and the outdoor kitchen was so well equipped. We used the pizza oven one night which was so much fun. The sleepout was so cozy - we lit the wood burner In the evening and it kept us warm all night. The local walk from the cabin was lovely but we spent most of our time relaxing in the hammock or lying on the bed looking at the view. We 100% relaxed and unwound here and didn’t want to leave!
21/09/2020Katie
We loved our stay at The Sleepout! The attention to detail by the owners was amazing and the place itself was incredible.
22/08/2020Liz
This place is magical! This was our second visit and we’ll definitely visit again. The craftsmanship in the Sleepout is stunning - amazing attention to detail. The pizza oven is great fun and the fire pit great for toasting marshmallows. We loved just spending time making pizza dough, chopping wood for the fire and collecting wood with the barrow.Perfect views to wake up to... literally from your bed. The new shower is fantastic... with the same stunning views! The whole experience and location is perfect for a break in nature.
21/07/2020Jenny
We wanted somewhere where we could relax in our own surroundings. I can’t say anything that hasn’t already been said about the sleepout. Mike and Rachel have created such a bespoke place, we are desperate to go back! The kids could roam around, in absolute safety, sheep in the adjoining fields, owls hooting and bats flying around. Just wonderful. All in one room on the bunk that overlooks the roaming fields. We used the fire pit, wood burner and pizza oven. The kids collecting the wood with the wheelbarrows, then helping chop it. Our dog was in dog heaven. We played hide and seek, wheelbarrow races, pine cone toss. We wandered the fields. Walked to the bottom of the road and dipped in the stream. The weather was with us. A truly magical extended weekend.
11/07/2020Nichola
Fabulous stay at the sleep out over New Year. Attention to detail was excellent and loved everything wood! View was beautiful, especially from the bed! Kitchen area was excellent, everything easy to use. Pizza oven was great, as was the fire pit. The little cabin was beautiful, snug and warm with the stove on. Plenty of fire wood to keep us toasty and the use of sheepskin slippers were great. Great walks from the door, our Labrador loved it!

Our stay was magical. Mike and Rachel have put so much care into making the sleepout the perfect place to enjoy some time out and enjoy the beautiful countryside around you. Spectacular views, and all you need for a simple enjoyable few days.
31/10/2019Chester
A truly magical and beautiful place, we absolutly loved the sleepout. A great way to reconnect with yourself and nature. We will certainly be going back.
04/10/2019Elliott
The owners agreed to pick us up and return us from the station and were so lovely, even when our train was delayed. They were great with communication at all times. The Sleepout has a gorgeous view that you can even see from the bed when you wake up and is in a wonderfully private space which really made a difference. There were many small touches in The Sleepout which made it very romantic and welcoming. The shower was beautiful and there was so much wildlife. The bed was one of the comfiest beds ever. Really, you couldn't fault The Sleepout and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The firewood was free and we saw so many stars, even the Milky Way! It was great to have fairy lights and candles, this really added to the atmosphere and the books and tips that Mike and Rachel left for guests were of goof quality and really useful, including a menu from a local eatery and had written their scores next to the food they ate, which was really sweet. We would definitely stay again and absolutely loved being there. Thank you so much Mike and Rachel!

It was just absolutely amazing. We are a well travelled couple all over the world. An this is definitely in my top 3.
19/07/2019Alison
Truly stunning ...... Such a special place for my husbands surprise 40th celebrations. The Sleepout totally surpassed my expectations, from the warm welcome from Rachel and Mike when we arrived, to all the finishing touches inside, not forgetting the pizza oven for tasty suppers, and of course the view of the countryside from the bed...... Just perfect! Is it any wonder that oyr 5 year olds comments in the guestbook were "i want to stay here forever, but i have to go home"
31/05/2019Vicky
I booked this accommodation to propose to my other half there. We were there for a total of three nights, all three nights were absolutely amazing.
21/05/2019Keegan
Easily one of the best experiences I have had. I have had the pleasure of visiting many beautiful countries and parts of the uk. The beauty and peace they have captured is truly amazing. The accommodation does everything you want it to. The subtle details to decor etc was over and above. The grounds that the cabin is on along with the view feel like you are totally alone in the valley. We will be back for sure. Thanks
16/05/2019Ross
Perfect location with glorious views. The hosts were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely visit again.
02/05/2019Alice
We had the most wonderful few days at The Sleepout! Mike was a great host, showing us the ropes and offering some enormously helpful tips on using the outdoor pizza oven when we arrived, and both he and Rachel clearly put a lot of thought into making this a gorgeous place to escape the real world. The views were incredible, and the cabin itself really cosy. It's also far enough away from everything else that it's absolutely silent (except for the sheep), and the stars were so beautiful without any light pollution in the way. We were worried that the "naked windows" would mean we'd be woken up from first light, but it's sheltered enough that while it gets light, it's not enough to disturb a lie in! We were also really pleased with ourselves for making an edible pizza on the first attempt! It's worth googling a pizza dough recipe before you go and taking ingredients with you, as the nearest supermarket is a bit of a drive away. Overall I can't recommend this place enough, it's the perfect place to getaway.
29/04/2019Louise
We had an amazing time staying at the sleepout. The lodge itself is beautifully crafted and has a stunning view across the valley - a romantic and ideallic setting.
18/12/2018Danirllr
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Sleepout! I had booked as a surprise for my fiancé’s birthday so he had no idea where we were going and he was very excited when he realised on arrival! It was the perfect place to relax, switch off from the world and spend some much needed quality time together. Our hosts provided everything we needed, from tea lights to towels. They were there to welcome us and also if we needed them but left us alone for the stay which was perfect. This place provided just the right amount of adventure for us - no electricity and outdoor cooking but a beautiful wood burner and a comfy bed. We will definitely be back and cannot recommend highly enough to friends and family.

Excellent weekend away with the missus and the dog
02/11/2018Mark
Beautiful setting in a welsh valley. Sweet hut with lots of character.
24/10/2018Sarah
The Sleepout was so beautifully constructed, you could see the pride & love that had gone into it, all the little details really gave this place a unique character. The bed was placed just a the right hight so that in the morning as we woke we were greeted by the most amazing view. The outside cooking area was well equipped & several pizzas where made in the oven, enjoying our food as the sun set outside & then heading indoors to start a fire was a joy. It felt as though we were totally alone, able to enjoy the silence & relax.nIt really was the perfect little escape.
05/10/2018Sherrie-lea
The Sleepout is a truly special retreat, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. A beautiful cosy cabin alongside a well designed kitchen and covered seating area - even a bit of rain didn't dampen our weekend! The view and setting were stunning too. We would happily come back time after time!
10/08/2018Laura
1 word: unforgettable
25/05/2018Margot
Everything about this place was exactly what we were looking for. A place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle. The attention to detail was great, right down to the cosy slippers and blankets to keep us warm in the evenings. We particularly enjoyed the pizza oven and the spectacular views which never got old.
11/05/2018Sophie
We loved every moment of our stay. The sleepout was just magical. It had everything we needed and couldn't of asked for a better view. Mike and Rachel were just lovely. We had an amazing time there and look forward to going back. Thank you.
16/03/2018Haley
Absolutely stunning. Beautiful location, beautiful property, wonderful break from ‘the world’ for a while.
09/03/2018Louisa
It was totally amazing! We're so glad we went to the Sleepout. Everything was just lovely. Mike showed us to the cabin and where everything was and then left us to it. We arrived in the dark which made the view even more amazing the next morning. It was a one of a kind weekend away.
24/11/2017Faye
What a great weekend! We loved everything about the Sleepout, from the cosy superbly crafted cabin (and the views from the bed!) to the pizza oven and outdoor kitchen. You are on your own amongst nature, with views of the valley and stars at night. It felt very private and cosy. The welcoming hot shower was great after a day of walking in the area, and the log burner very efficient! There are a few very useful walking books left in the Sleepout - we recommend walk number 5 from the Meifod book; it is a lovely 4h circular walk which you can do from the doorstep, going down in the valley and up in the hills opposite, through fields and tracks - great views (but good walking boots are recommended as it can be a bit muddy!). We certainly both recharged our batteries this weekend - thank you very much Mike and Rachel for welcoming us!
17/11/2017Agnès
This was our first time glamping and all i can say is wow!! We arrived and used the wheelbarrow to take our bags to the cabin which was a quirky touch! Seeing the cabin we felt like we were in our own private woodland! Magical place with beautiful views of the Welsh countryside! Felt really relaxing, romantic and cosy especially in a candlelit cabin! Lots of quirky touches too which made it feel even more unique! Welcome hamper was lovely and pizza oven was great we loved making pizza and garlic bread!Compost loo was actually alright (didn't know what to expect with it being our first time) and shower was warm and well thought out and again lots of quirky touches in both! Everything we needed was provided and lots of space in the cabin for our bags! Really well designed and thought out, it's got everything you could need! Mike and Rachel are very friendly but leave you to your own devices so you feel trusted and the cabin feels very private! Only have good things to say about this place its truly amazing and the atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing you really have to be there to fully appreciate just how beautiful it is! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to book again!!
27/09/2017Charlotte
It was perfect in every way. Such a magical experience. Amazing would sum it all up
22/09/2017Amanda
Perfect! So many thoughtful details and touches. The view was spectacular and the pizza oven was marvelous. Couldn't have chosen a better place to unwind after our wedding!
08/08/2017Katie
The Sleepout is so peaceful and absolutely beautiful. Our hosts were very welcoming and were available if we had a question but at the same time we felt like we were in our own world. The views from the sleepout are amazing, the bed is comfy, the fire is fantastically warm and the wood-fired oven was a real bonus. We had everything we needed and can't wait to come back when more r&r is needed!
12/06/2017Sarah
I had very high expectations for ourstay at The Sleepout prior to arrival having read all positive guest comments. I am confident to say that reality far surpassed my expectations. I really appreciated the little touches, from the tasty homemade brownies through to the board games and guitar for entertainment. I had an embarrassing situation where my phone fell down the compost loo (please don't take your phone to the compost loo). The hosts quickly came to my rescue and fished my phone out (after lots of sanitisation it's safe to use again- thank you!).
11/04/2017Cj
A Fantastic way to lose yourself and find yourself in such an amazing place
27/03/2017Kirsty
An amazing stay in a beautiful, well made wooden cabin on a hill above Meifod. We explored the area (a couple of National Trust properties and some lovely long walks) and then were happy to return to the cabin of an evening to cook and watch the sunset. An amazing short break.
24/03/2017Catherine
A fantastic way to see in the new year, in the gorgeous little Sleepout.
29/12/2016Faye
The sleepout was perfect. the pizza oven, the outdoor kitchen, the cozy fires and the friendly hosts x the attention to detail was outstanding
04/12/2016Emily
Was absolutely amazing, couldn't fault any of it, would highly recommend to anyone who loves the outdoors!! We had no signal of any kind which we loved but may not be everyone's cup of tea! Everything was so cleverly thought of and beautiful... and the view from bed took our breath away!!
18/11/2016Grace
Stay was everything if not better than expected. Just what we needed to have a break away from it all and relax. The facilities were brilliant and added a sense of adventure to our stay whilst still making sure that there were little luxuries to help make the stay cosy, especially with the weather being so cold recently. We were very impressed with the camping kitchen and the clay fire oven and had delicious meals every night after long walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
11/11/2016Sam
When we arrived at Sunnylea after driving up a little track into the woods and from the moment we spotted our wheelbarrow to take our luggage to the Sleepout, we knew we were in for a treat! Mike greeted us with a warm welcome and gave us a very informative tour about thier stunning build and then left us to it. The location of the Sleepout couldn't have been better, we were very lucky with the weather but Im sure even if it had of been nasty, it would have been just as fun. The setting so helped with the precious time I had with my partner, we had such fun cooking together, eating together and laughing together. We dont have smartphones and arent big on technology anyway, but if youre looking for a break from it all and want to try real old fashioned verbal communication then this is the place! It has the perfect balance of outdoorsy camping vibes with enough luxury to make it super comfortable.. and the bed is by far the comfiest we have ever slept in!! The view from the bed makes you never want to get out! 4 nights wasn't enough and I think 4 months wouldnt even be enough, but even if you are only stopping for 1 or 2 nights, it will be 1 or 2 nights you will never forget. Go!!
03/10/2016Kezia
The Sleepout was everything we imagined and more! Thank you to Mike and Rachel for creating a unique, quirky and visually stunning little piece of heaven in the middle of the Welsh Valleys. They really have thought of everything... We (2 adults and a very well behaved Irish Terrier) enjoyed everything about it: the layout, the views, the extremely comfy bed, the pizza oven (yes, we managed to achieve the goal of homemade pizza and it was amazing!) the cooking facilities, the wood shed, the fire pit - the whole experience was fantastic. Early morning breakfast, followed by a long hike across local beauty spots. Then back to camp to chop wood, prepare dinner and then enjoy the warmth of the fire whilst listening to the radio and reminiscing on the days events. Far enough from our hosts to feel like we were in the middle of nowhere, but close enough to enjoy the comfort of freshly frozen ice packs when needed for the icebox (from the greenhouse freezer) home-made honey (the best EVER) and anything else you might need. We stayed for a week, made pizza, made fire and made peace with nature. Can't recommend this hidden gem enough - go and find out for yourselves - you'll love it!!
05/09/2016Helen
Absolutely fantastic place. The most relaxing holiday we could have hoped for. Mike and Rachel were amazing hosts and left us to ourselves unless we sought them out for advice on days out. The cabin is magical especially at night, showering with views of the sky is glorious and even the compost loo has a view. The walk to the top is worth the sweat for the views , absolutely breath taking. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the place. We are now pizza oven experts (almost) and cannot wait to return to this little place of bliss.
29/07/2016Sarah
We had a wonderful time. The setting is beautiful and the cabin is perfect for its location. We enjoyed using the pizza oven - it added a nice twist to the break.
11/07/2016Amy
This place is amazing! The attention to detail is outstanding so much so we didn't go anywhere the whole of Our stay. The owners bespoke design gives a cosy relaxing and wonderful stay. Amazing evenings say outside cooking on the for fire pit and pizza oven sat looking at the amazing view of the valley. The view from the bed is breathtaking we didn't want to leave. The owners provided lovely details like a kettle next to the bed.. al welcome test with delicious Welsh cakes tea coffe got chocolate and home grown fruit. Such a thoghtful gesture. We love this place and really did not want to leave we hope to return very soon
08/07/2016Suzanne
You are staying in a place that has lovingly been made & it's as if you are living through the eyes of Mike & Rachael. Very, very impressive build, had everything you need. It was definitely a good decision for the last part of our honeymoon, it is such a relaxing place to stay. Thank you so much, we will definitely be returning!
20/05/2016Laura
Everything was perfect. The place the weather. Couldn't of been better. Very private, and all the little details have been thought of. Wasn't keen on the idea of the compost toilet but was actually better than expected.
13/05/2016Amanda
My partner and I stayed at The Sleepout for three nights to celebrate our first anniversary, and it was fantastic. The Sleepout itself is bewitchingly beautiful - the woodwork is unique and really just very impressive, and all the more impressive when you speak to Mike about the building of it. We ended up coveting pretty much everything there - the enamel mugs, the stoneware crockery, the whistling kettle, the pizza oven, the lanterns, even the compost loo! We liked the duvet so much that we tracked down the pattern and got one for our bed at home! We had a nice mix of rain and sun, and were grateful for both - sun allowing us to laze out in front of the cabin, and rain letting us settle down in front of the woodburner and cosy up over some board games. At night, we saw a handful of shooting stars as we sipped from the complementary hot chocolate and stargazed. The hosts couldn't be better - Mike showed us everything we needed to know and then signed out with "Well, you won't see me unless you want to!" He was right - we felt like we had the whole hillside all to ourselves. If you're umming and ahhing about where to go, I would really, really recommend The Sleepout.
05/05/2016Caitlin
The sleepout was absolutley gorgeous! I truely cannot believe that Mike created such a place on his own! The handywork and precision is second to none! I was very suprised to see the actual size of The Sleepout as the pictures did not show the full size, I pictured it to be much smaller! We had absolutley everything we needed and I dont think I have ever been so relaxed in my life looking out over fields and a road in the distance with the log fire burning away! The only thing I can say about this place - PERFECT!
29/02/2016Jamie
We had a wonderful time at The Sleepout. The views were fantastic, we cooked outdoors everyday, had gale force winds which just added to the adventure. We would definitely recommend The Sleepout and would go back ourselves again.
16/11/2015Joanne
We had the most amazing and relaxing time at The Sleepout. The accommodation has been designed and furnished in a way that you feel at home soon as you step in. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful in suggesting places for us to visit. We cannot wait to come back. Ps. The pizza oven was a treat (I will never order take away pizza again)
02/11/2015Natsai
We loved the Sleepout! It is such a snug, cosy place in idyllic surroundings. The view from the bed is spectacular and the whole cabin is beautifully crafted and done up. The kitchen area is very well equipped and we loved using the pizza oven. It didn't matter that it rained while we were there as everything is under cover. The owners were lovely and left us delicious yellow raspberry jam and apples and herbs from their garden.
27/10/2015Rachel
We arrived on Friday evening as the sun had just set and left on Sunday morning although we wanted to stay longer. Mike the owner showed us around and then left us to enjoy our weekend. The accommodation and setting is exceptional. We felt like we had our own private space but the owners lived on site so were still close enough to be there if we needed anything. The Sleepout and surrounding land was truly beautiful, creative, quirky yet comfortable and unique. The views across the valley were just stunning and could be viewed from the bed, particularly in the morning as the fog moved around changing the view all of the time. The camp kitchen is amazing with everything we needed and the fire pit and wooden canopy meant that we could sit out until well in to the evening without being too cold. The log burner kept the sleeping / inside area really cosy. The shower and compost toilet were just the right distance from the sleepout itself and were clean and very luxurious, even for glamping! The little touches like homemade sorbet, welsh cakes and jam were the icing of the cake to our stay. We can also highly recommend the breakfast hamper. We will definitely stay here again.
02/10/2015Laura
We had a wonderful stay at the Sleepout, Mike was very helpful and welcoming and the place itself was just beautiful.
27/09/2015Nicole
Beautiful place, clearly a lot of love has gone into creating the sleepout. We had a great weekend and loved the pizza oven.
25/09/2015Emily
We had a fantastic three nights at the Sleepout. It was ideal for our desire which was to get away somewhere in the countryside and go back to basics. No electricity or internet etc. Perfect.
04/09/2015Simon
We had an absolutely magical stay at the sleep out. The entire place was beautifully crafted with perfect details and touches that made our stay a unique and exciting experience.
01/09/2015Georgia
Amazing! What a wonderful place. So quirky, well thought out and such a peaceful area. We will be going back.
29/08/2015Alison
Our stay was just perfect - everything one could need was provided, including our privacy, space and well being.
21/08/2015Jacqui
We had a fantastic time - truly relaxed and enjoyed the peaceful views, wildlife and walks. The Sleepout is beautiful during the day, and reveals its quirky craftsmanship, however at night is when it really comes alive - there are solar fairy lights around the camp, as well as inside which when cooking marshmallows over a night fire adds an extra element of magic. The toilet is the only toilet I have ever been in with 2 beautiful views and a landcover door - very unique.
28/07/2015caroline
What a beautiful place, the hosts were lovely and there to offer help when we needed it but also were respectful of our privacy. I loved the creative and natural way the accommodation had been thought out. Would definitely recommend it and hope to explore more places to stay in the near future.
17/07/2015Christine
We had a great stay, everything had been crafted beautifully and Mike and Rachel were most welcoming. They could not do enough for us and the sleepout was perfect, hoping to return at some point.
08/07/2015Tom
Idyllic setting, creatively constructed with absolutely every detail thought out. Mike and Rachel welcomed us into their masterpiece with beautiful flowers, yummy yellow raspberry jam, welsh cakes and fresh water on arrival. Mike gave us a run through of the pizza oven, log burner, nearby toilet and shower. The natural light woke us in the morning revealing beautiful views across the rolling hills. The bed was luxurious and it was tempting to stay there all day to just feel 'at one' with the woods. We spent the day cycling to nearby Lake Vyrnwy however returned back to The Sleepout to cook a wood fired pizza with a bottle of Prosecco watching the sunset over the hills. Whenever we thought we needed something, we found it had already been provided. Looking forward to returning soon.
16/06/2015Daisy
The stay was perfection, we have been glamping 8 times now and the sleepout sits comfortably in our top three. The views were stunning, the pizza oven was brilliant fun and the privacy and seclusion perfection. The bed was so comfortable and waking up to the sunrise like a day dream. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed herself too.
15/05/2015lorna
The Sleepout is quite frankly magical, the owners have added so many wonderful touches such as the beautifully made wooden sinks and the log fired pizza oven (which we used with fresh pizza dough and was perfect). The place was warm and cosy when we got there, and we enjoyed looking out at the stars without interruption. You have to see this place to believe it!
10/04/2015Sam
We had an amazing time at the sleepout from start to finish. Arrived with a lovely welcome from Rachel who told us everything we needed to know. The views are amazing and you have everything you need to just sit back, relax and enjoy the breathtaking views. The attention to detail is stunning and I would definitely revisit.
06/04/2015Rebecca
There’s real integrity and craftsmanship in the space. I would definitely stay here again. I already recommended to a friend. It’s not just another cabin, something that could only exist where it does, so settled in its environment and a reflection of Rachel and Mike's warmth too.

Me and my partner and our 2 dogs stayed at the sleep out for 3 nights and had the best time. From the pizza oven to the wood fired hot tub every little thing was thought about! The craftsmanship was incredible and the hosts were extremely helpful and we will 10000% be back in the summer ! Don’t miss this place it was amazing!

27/05/2024Jack
We had a lovely stay at the sleepout. The location is beautiful and care had been taken to ensure we had everything we needed, even down to the games provided. We brought two dogs and they had a fab time too!
26/04/2024Emma
It was cozy and relaxing, just what we were looking for.
15/03/2024Natalie

Had a fabulous few days away. The experience was more than I ever imagined

Dreamy! Amazing views. Everything was made with love.
28/08/2023Amy
21/08/2023Natalia

14/10/2022Bilal

07/04/2022Christopher

There are hardly words for this place …… it is so special in so many ways

29/12/2019Jane
24/08/2019Francesca
09/11/2018Hannah
