Overview
From the outside, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Plas Bach (little palace in Welsh) belonged to an old-world local Welsh shepherd with its black tin exterior and stained boards. Indeed, the little stream over to Lower House marks the border from England into Wales. Even inside, Plas Bach still has a traditional feel with a green painted vintage dresser and other vintage furnishings. If you look closely though, it’s actually a state of the art example of modern eco living, designed and built by Pete himself with features like sheep’s wool insulation in the walls, recycled spun glass insulation beneath, and triple-glazed, argon filled windows. It’s also indulgently fitted with oodles of modern luxury, from a flat screen TV and WiFi to a spacious wet room with local handmade soap, and comes with its own gravelled courtyard and elegant box garden separating it from the main house. Have breakfast on the veranda overlooking the garden and stream, and tuck into the thoughtfully provided basket of local treats.
Plas Bach is on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, one of only 5 designated Dark Sky Reserves in the world, so the stargazing doesn’t get much better than this! The seven acres of romantic garden, fields, orchard, wood, stream and wildlife pond are enough for several days of exploration. The cabin itself is situated on the grounds of the owner’s house, and whilst they’re unable to look over you – they’re not far away! The Brecon Beacons provide good walks and mountain biking if you've somehow managed to exhaust the numerous bookshops and galleries in Hay-on-Wye, an easy 20-minute stroll away.

Meet your hosts
Pete and his late wife Nicky moved to Lower House almost 40 years, bringing up three children there. Nicky, who was a teacher and garden designer, and Pete, formally a builder and restorer, have been working on the house and garden since moving there in 1985! When Nicky died in 2016 Pete decided to keep the garden and business going in Nicky's memory.
Plas Bach is set in a 7 acre self-contained valley, made up of romantic garden, small fields, orchard, wood, stream, wildlife pond & wild garden. The exceptional garden, created by Nicky and Pete, and now maintained entirely by Pete, has been featured in many national magazines. Plas Bach was designed by Pete and rebuilt on the site of a former large garden building a few years ago.
Wildlife & Environment
The luxuriant and magical garden is an intriguing mix of formal and informal, wild and controlled, dark and light. It is a very relaxing place where you can unwind completely. There is no traffic noise, just birds and the sound of the stream that runs past Plas Bach and the house. There are many wild birds and butterflies, and the valley is full of wildlife. Pete also own a very small flock of Black Welsh Mountain sheep, complete with bells, and you might get to see the resident cat.
As you cross the Dulas Brook to come up the drive, you pass from England into Wales. You'll be just within the Brecon Beacons National Park (now a designated Dark Sky Reserve), and the Offa's Dyke Path runs just behind the house.

Lovely place, peaceful and well maintained.

We really enjoyed our time at the cosy, spotlessly clean and well situated little house and garden in Powys. The sound of the stream next to the verandah and the birds singing was very peaceful. We liked the secluded feel to the place yet Haye on Wye was a 20 minute walk across the hill and down the public footpath, or alternatively a 30 minute easy walk down the little road. The owner was very friendly and suggested places to visit and things to do locally too. A beautiful cottage with all the amenities and a peaceful unhurried atmosphere was just what we needed for our short break. Thank you indeed.

Delightful, well equipped, comfy and cosy

Absolutely brilliant, the cabin was spotlessly clean and there was a basket of goodies waiting for us. Peter the host met us on our arrival and he was very friendly and welcoming. He gave us some information about the area and things to do and gave us an invite to walk around his beautiful garden at leisure.

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to stay. Peter was lovely and accommodating and the welcome hamper was exactly what we needed to get us set up! The house and the surrounding gardens are stunning and it's a quick and easy walk to Hay. We cannot rate this highly enough and will definitely be booking again. Thank you Peter

We had a lovely stay, being soothed by the sounds of the stream, bird calls and wind in the trees. There was a little hike over to the town where we wanted to go and we've left with some great memories. After shopping and eating out, there was nothing better than returning to sit in the garden or inside with the patio doors open.
24/06/2024Zoe
The cabin is beautiful...really well made and maintained with everything needed for a relaxing stay. We poterred around the garden and Hay-on-Wye for 4 days enjoying the peace and greenery. The welcome basket was also a lovely detail with lots of Welsh goodies.

Very comfortable accommodation in a beautiful setting. With easy access to Offa's Dyke and the Black Mountains and walking distance from Hay on Wye the location was perfect for us.
03/05/2024Alison
The cabin had everything we needed, Peter was freindly and welcoming on arrival. We had a peaceful stay enjoying the lovely garden, walking in the surrounding area and exploring Hay on Wye.

We arrived at approx 8.30 pm ,so as it was dark couldn't really see much of the surroundings. The accommodation was perfect , the log burner was set and ready for lighting together with a lovely welcome pack . As we unpacked the car we could hear the stream ,it was really peaceful and we looked forward to a lovely weekend break. In the morning we opened the curtains to see a beautiful garden , with robins on the little garden table . We met our host Pete , who made us very welcome and gave us the directions through his garden and onto Offa's Dyke which took us into the beautiful town of Hay on Wye. We walked to Hay Saturday and Sunday , the weather was dry and sunny . We enoyed the evenings too ,cosy in front of the log burner with an excellent supply of logs , books and the tv. Pete also invited to walk around his lovely garden at any time which was very kind and we did enjoy as we are keen gardeners. We enjoyed our stay so much and would definitely like to return, the accommodation is perfect as is the host.

We had a wonderful time at Plas Bach. We wanted a cozy spot away from every day life to bring in the new year and the cabin was perfect. Pete had created a beautiful space with lots of great little touches and attention to detail. We loved cozying up by the log burner, playing scrabble after dinner, having tea on the veranda and enjoying the view of the stunning garden. With Hay only a short drive (or walk but the weather was miserable so we decided to be lazy) away we were ideally placed for days out but most of the time we just enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere in the cabin. We’ll definitely be back!

Plas Bach at Lower House is fantastic, couldn't recommend higher. Peter met us when we arrived and was very welcoming. He had even left us some lovely eggs, bread, Welsh cakes, butter, milk and apple juice so we didn't have to go to the shops for the 1st day. The house itself is lovely, a great size for couples. The wood fire is great, the bathroom is lovely and the bed super comfy. The kitchen is very well kitted out, there are 2 gas burners, an oven and grill, and a microwave, toaster and kettle if you were wanting to stay in and cook yourself.

What a beautifu place and what a lovely host. Everything we expected and more. We'd stay again at the drop of a hat.
23/10/2023Joe
Wonderful stay in this lovely cosy cabin.
13/10/2023Pauline
We stayed at Plas Bach for 1 week during August 2023. The cabin and grounds were idyllic, the pictures on the website just don't do them Justice. Pete, the owner, met us on arrival and was the perfect host. On hand if you needed anything but otherwise left you to your privacy. If your looking for somewhere off the beaten track to recharge the batteries, this is definitely it!! Hay on Wye is a beautiful town with plenty of good quality eateries and pubs.....perfect. We will return!!
11/08/2023Andy
We had a wonderful stay. The cottage is comfortable and well decorated, with a lovely view on to Peter's well maintained and extensive garden. Peter left a lovely welcome basket and a printed book with useful information about where to eat etc.
14/07/2023Hetvi
We had a fantastic stay at Plas Bach. The facilities and accommodation were to a high standard and we loved exploring the garden. A unique location full of character. Pete, the owner was very welcoming and friendly.

Our stay at Plas Bach was a dream! The cabin is so beautifully built and decorated, everything is so well thought through. Pete is very warm and welcoming and his garden is just magical. The provisions are a really nice touch and the apple juice was especially delicious. We cooked out under the stars one night which was really special. Hay-on-Wye is such a nice place, we wished we could have stayed longer but we plan to be back!
03/07/2023Louise
We had a wonderful four night stay at Plas Bach. It was very clean, a beautiful garden and Peter the owner very kindly put some lovely goodies for us to enjoy on arrival.

Plas Bach was a lovely, serene place to stay, where we were able to relax and unwind. The accommodation offered everything we needed to make the most of our visit and was of high quality. Pete, our host, was friendly and hospitable. The local village of Hay-on-Wye was interesting and quirky, with lots of history.

We stayed in Plas Bach for 4 nights in early August during a heat wave. The place was absolutely beautiful, better than the photos promised. Peter was a lovely host and his garden a real work of love. The location was perfect, just outside Hay but within walking distance via a lane or Offa's Dyke path.
08/08/2022Rebecca
Great accommodation in a lovely setting. Clear directions and felt very welcomed on arrival. Very generous basket of goodies was really nice touch and appreciated. We would definitely recommend a stay here.
25/07/2022Lucy
A fabulous stay. Just what we needed. Peace and quiet and a break from the routine, hosted by the wonderful Peter, who was friendly and welcoming. Beautifully decorated and furnished cabin, with a high quality finish. Walkable from Hay on Wye across the fields. Highly recommend.

We had an incredible week at Plas Bach. It was in the perfect location and was the little peaceful haven that we had hoped it would be. It was an easy walk into Hay-on-Wye and a great base for exploring the area. The house itself had everything we needed and the bed was incredibly comfortable! It was lovely to have our own little private garden, and the perfect view to wake up to every morning. Can't recommend it enough!
08/07/2022Vicky
We stayed for a long relaxing weekend in a lovely cabin set in beautiful gardens. The sound of the brook and the birds was all we needed for a quiet break away. Lovely walk through the fields into Hay on Wye. Peter has created a lovely cabin, which is well equipped and the welcome hamper was lovely.

I had a lovely stay at Plas Bach, it’s very cosy & calming. Peter was very welcoming & available for questions if needed
24/09/2021Vicki
When I saw the picture of Plas Bach, I said to my husband “don’t care where it is, I love it and want to stay there!”. The cabin itself looked inviting, was designed with the environment in mind, it sits perfectly in the beautiful garden and looked tranquil and relaxing. Peter has created something very special and we were delighted to have stayed there.
10/09/2021Cheryl
I have had a lovely week in this peaceful and restful place. The accommodation was comfortable in beautiful gardens.
26/07/2021Kath
It has been a difficult year for us and for our holiday we needed someone quiet and peaceful. I have chronic fatigue, and that makes the little things more difficult day to day. We needed somewhere we could stay throughout without needing to travel or venture further. Plas Bach was a haven. We hardly left the peace and tranquility of the garden. Pete was very friendly and we loved exploring his garden, especially the wild meadows and woodland. The cabin was beautiful and had everything we needed. We spent our days lounging in the garden and watching the wildlife; simply passing time by recuperating. The sound of the stream by the cabin was our soundtrack. Genuinely, it was idyllic. It was exactly what we needed. And we know too that there was so much more to see. We'd love to stay again.
19/07/2021Hannah
Fabulous location. The house is beautiful and compact. As a garden lover, I was delighted with the garden and all the live and work that goes with it. Plas Bach is a short walk into Hay which has everything you need in a town. Lots of things to do locally.
09/07/2021Cara
We had a brilliant time at Plas Bach from start to finish. The directions to the cottage were excellent and Pete was there to greet us and although maintaining social distance made us feel instantly welcome. The accommodation was exactly as described and of a good standard and the location idyllic - all we could hear was the babbling brook that runs alongside the cottage and birdsong! The cottage is ideally placed to be able to walk across the fields into Hay on Wye or out into the glorious surrounding countryside.
21/06/2021Annie
I was looking for somewhere remote for a few days respite and found Plas Bach. It was a dream come true. The cottage is away from it all - traffic noise, neighbours, trains, planes, shops and life in general. The garden is exquisite and the sound of the running small river only adds to the sense of utter peace. The cottage is small but very well kitted out with everything one could possibly need and is very clean with all Covid requirements in place. Peter the owner is a lovely gentleman and although he keeps himself to himself is always on hand for any queries. I absolutely loved every aspect of my stay so much and would return for another stay in a heartbeat. I cannot recommend Plas Bach highly enough.
14/06/2021Annie
We really enjoyed our stay and thought the property was lovely and as hoped for. We realy enjoyed the welcome hamper.
14/05/2021Sarah
We were looking for property in the beautiful countryside in the Hay on Wye area. Plas Bach ticked all the boxes - location, property & countryside on the doorstep. The house has everything you need. The ‘goodies’ provided by Peter were delicious & very thoughtful.
26/04/2021Liz
We had a two day stay at Plas Bach and it was absolutely wonderful. Nestled in a hidden valley right on the outskirts of Hay-on-Wye it was as if we had stepped off the world and found our own little piece of heaven. From the moment we arrived, the property owner Pete was fantastic, always being on hand but never being intrusive. The fact that he allowed us to explore his incredible garden was just the icing on the cake. Plas Bach was the perfect size for the two of us with everything easily at hand, be it a lovely welcome pack full of local goodies, to an endless supply of wood for the cosy burner. we would happily go back at any point of the year, either for a warm winter stay or a heavenly summer break. It was perfect!
16/04/2021Mark
Our stay was lovely. It really was the stress releiving break me and my partner needed. The man who owned the accomodation was the lovely and friendly too. Our selected accomodation was amazing, lovely bed, lovely shower, lovely cooker, and amazing fire place. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Peter, and we also found that he had left us a welcome basket of some lovely bread and biscuits, and had taken extra care to get these within our dietry requirements, which is plant-based. We saw the town, and had some amazing food and bought some lovely books. We relaxed every evening by the fire and chilled out and took in the quiet side of the holiday with open arms. As we live in the city, it was just so lovely to escape to a quiet area that is outside of the town. It was so chilled, and we could do whatever we pleased. Reading all day, walking, eating and relaxing. No stress, just a purely amazing time. I wish we were there for longer and can't wait to go on another holiday like this one, or go back to the same place, as it was perfect.

We had a lovely stay at Plas Bach. Beautiful surroundings and so peaceful. The place had everything we needed.

Fantastic break, even if an unwanted Storm Dennis did drag along !
14/02/2020Caron
It was the perfect getaway from our busy lives that allowed us to hide away.
27/12/2019Charlotte
We had a perfect few days of pure relaxation at Plas Bach. Pete was the perfect host. He greeted us on arrival and showed us around the cabin, we particularly enjoyed the welcome basket of local goodies... very thoughtful. Plas Bach has everything you could possibly need for a short stay even down to a garlic crusher! The gardens are beautiful, it would be beautiful any time of year but we loved the autumnal colours. Thank you for a fantastic stay!
04/11/2019Nina
Plas Bach was a wonderful place to stay. The cabin was remarkable. It had everything you could possibly need, was charming, stylish and cosy. The wood burning stove was perfect for our Autumn stay. I had the best sleep for months. We would love to stay again.
28/10/2019Caroline
What a delightful garden shed! We really enjoyed our stay here, even though the weather wasn't particularly bright. Cosy and comfortable, and in a very peaceful setting. The nearby stream providing a soothing backdrop sound.
11/10/2019Jonathan
Plas Bach is beautiful. We were celebrating our second wedding anniversary and couldn't have been in lovelier surroundings. Peter built the house from scratch and he thought of every detail. It's perfect. We had the warmest welcome from Peter and he told us all about the house and gardens. There were some lovely welcome touches (and we now have a new favourite cider so many thanks indeed for that too). It's so peaceful and the gardens are absolutely stunning. We went for some amazing walks straight from the house. I cannot recommend Plas Bach highly enough. We'll be back. Thanks again Peter. We had the best time.
27/09/2019Dan
We had a wonderful break. Warm welcome, clean and cosy. Very quiet and a lovely 15/20 minute walk along the Offa Dyke into Hay.
16/09/2019Julie
We had a wonderful 4 days at Plas Bach, enjoying the stunning location in the heart of a beautifully tended and private garden. Wilder areas of the garden were close at hand and we heard owls at night and saw squirrels and grouse as well as other birds during the day. The cabin was well equipped, comfortable and warm despite the slightly chilly conditions outside. An excellent selection of books was a pleasure to dip into. The location was perfect, close to the town but also very much in the countryside. Being able to walk into Hay along the Offas Dyke path was a bonus. We are certainly considering booking in spring next year.

We were looking for a place to stay and explore close as we bring the children to see there grandparents and found this beautiful setting to enjoy. When we arrived we throughly loved the Plas Bach it had everything and more to enable us to completely relax and explore to enjoy the local community loved the town and enjoyed many walks in the countryside climbing hills and soaking the views such a beautiful and peaceful place to be.

We enjoyed eating outdoors - modern kitchen fully equipped and we used the bbq provided. We enjoyed walking across fields to local shops and market in Hay on Wye to buy good quality food and drink. We enjoyed local walks and driving into the Black Mountains for more spectacular mountain walks and views. Plas Bach provided details of walks as well as other local places to visit.

It was great, one of the nicest places we've been to.The cabin had absolutely everything we needed and the location was perfect.Even the drive down there and back was lovely,we'll definitely be back.

Our stay at Plas Bach was wonderful - cosy, charming, chilled and a true home away from home. The place was so comfortable and clean and had everything you needed. The welcome goodies were a well appreciated treat, making our break extra special. Best marmalade I’ve ever tasted too! Pete was an excellent host and the cabin and it’s surroundings were peaceful, warm and beautiful. Would definitely return.

Peter was very welcoming and the place in itself was wonderful. Comfortable, well equipped and suitably cosy for a little birthday getaway.
05/11/2018Kaitlin
We very much enjoyed it. The cabin was comfortable, well equipped and exceptionally clean! We had a nice welcome from Pete and a basket of goodies. We loved the many walks from the cabin and the kayaking at Wye valley Canoes.
24/09/2018Jane
We were very impressed from the outset. Beautiful well stocked accommodation set in the heart of the countryside. Pete Daw was a welcoming host and the welcome basket was very much appreciated and enjoyed. We are definitely going to return to Plas Bach and will have no hesitation in recommending the property to friends.
03/09/2018Angela
A lovely peaceful long weekend - very comfortable and well appointed. The wood burner makes it very likely that this would also be very snug in the winter.
10/08/2018Mark
We booked Plas Bach as a last minute treat to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. From the moment we arrived we were consumed by the beauty of Plas Bach....and no wonder, the care and love lavished on the cabin and gardens from the owner exudes warmth and welcome. Everything from pre-arrival emails and requested recommendations to the basket of treats on arrival made our stay extra special.
21/07/2018Suzanne
We loved our stay at Plas Bach, the tranquillity of being away from everyday life was just wonderful, once Pete had shown us around we were left to our own devices, and it was absolutely perfect
16/07/2018STU
We had a great stay at Plas Bach, beautifully-kept gardens and a wonderful situation. This was our first time in this area, and we really enjoyed the hillwalking. It was a big benefit that the Offa Dyke path was just behind the property. Peter was the perfect host, very welcoming and helpful.
18/06/2018Alistair
Plas Bach was a lovely, tranquil and peaceful place to stay. Didn't really know what to expect when we arrived but were pleasantly surprised. Peter was kind and welcoming, even leaving us a basket full of goodies - containing eggs, milk and local bread. Although the town of Hay is small, there are lots of places to visit and explore. With many small family businesses dotted around and lots of bookshops! Everyone in the town is very friendly and always keen to help when in need. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a quaint getaway in the Welsh countryside.
20/04/2018Paige
We chose this location to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The cottage was perfect. Everything had been thought about from the basket of goodies provided by the Pete the host , down to leaflets and maps for the area and a useful guide to eating out. The location was great for us as there are lovely walks and places of interest nearby.
06/04/2018Donna
Pete really went out of his way to make us both feel at home and welcomed into the cabin, with the welcome basket including gluten free and vegan food (for dietary needs) and cider too, even though neither of us could drive Pete was really helpful with giving us information on how to get to Plas Bach and even picked us up when we got into Hay, the cabin itself is really well kept and has really cute touches including a log fire, the area surrounding the cabin is also really well kept and is a really beautiful view to wake up to, Hay itself is within walking distance and is a really picturesque town with lots to do and visit, with the black mountains being nearby too which is really good for hikes with amazing views, Plas Bach is the perfect place for an escape from reality and is somewhere I would highly recommend and will be visiting again
23/02/2018Kitty
A peaceful stay in a beautifully equipped, comfortable and cosy space. Luxurious and just remote enough to relax, without being too far from pubs, shops and restaurants.
19/01/2018Imogen
It was everything we expected and more, gorgeous location with easy access to hay on wye, yet felt very remote.
05/01/2018SY-ANNE
We had a wonderful break, the cabin was beautiful and Pete our host was warm friendly and very welcoming.
23/10/2017Natalie
It was so peaceful and tranquil. We had 1 day that was a heavy rain day and decided to stay in. Everything was catered for us to stay in relax, cook and enjoy the home. Peter was very friendly and showed us how everything worked and suggested what to do and see around the area. At night we did star gazing in the garden as it was incredibly clear. Very beautiful and peaceful.
16/10/2017Jade
We had a lovely long weekend at Plas Bach. The cabin is beautiful and the setting is very peaceful and relaxing - just what we needed! The cabin is tucked away in stunning gardens and is a short walk into Hay. It had everything we needed and we loved it. No doubt we will be back!
13/10/2017Jenny
Great host! A beautiful well maintained property with a labour of love garden around it. Great location, only a 20 minute easy walk to Hay-on-wye. Lovely covered deck from which to listen to the night wildlife or shelter from the elements over a bottle of wine. Amazing wood burner and all mod cons you would need with Wifi and a DAB radio as well. A lovely, relaxing place to stay.
06/10/2017Chandler
Our 2nd time at Plas Bach and it didn't disappoint. Such a peaceful location but still with all the things we now 'take for granted' ...ie TV, wi-fi etc.. We loved our time here, yet again, and Pete is a really friendly and helpful owner. No doubt we shall be visiting again before too long.
08/09/2017David
The cabin was really well designed, stylishly furnished and spotlessly clean. We really appreciated the welcome basket of goodies, the delicious coffee and teas, the quality toiletries and towels, plus bath robes. The setting was wonderful and Pete was very welcoming and helpful.
04/09/2017Carey
My husband and I had a chance to get away for the weekend without our children. We decided to go to Hay on Wye, and Plas Bach was the perfect place to stay.
18/08/2017Christine
It was an absolute delight to stay here. Plas Bach is fantastic, the owner is kind and welcoming. The location is beautiful
24/07/2017Colin
The cabin was lovely and located really close to hay with plenty of food options. The owner had thought of all the little details you may need and it made for a very comfortable stay
07/07/2017Zoe
We spent 4 nights at Plas Bach and would recommend it to any couple wanting to unwind and get away from the hubbub of daily life. The cabin is set in beautiful gardens alongside a babbling brook, and has everything you need for a self catering stay. Pete is a wonderful host, and the welcome basket of local bread, eggs, milk, Welsh cakes, marmalade, butter and a couple of bottles of cider was a lovely touch. We hiked the surrounding fields and hills, and took a wander into Hay on Wye to check out the bookshops, tearooms and restaurants, as well as the market on Thursday. We'll definitely be returning in the future!
10/04/2017Sam
Our stay was everything we hoped for. Peaceful. Excellent accommodation - comfortable, cosy and located in beautiful surroundings.
27/03/2017Jan
We'd never visited this area before so were really looking forward to exploring for a couple of days. Although the cabin was so fabulous we could also have very easily just bunked down for 2 days with our books, cake and tea and not moved for 2 days. After checking in with Pete, who was really helpful and interesting, we walked along the Offa's Dyke path into Hay to explore the area. A nice, and easy, walk with great views. We enjoyed Hay but were more keen to get back to the lovely cabin and cook, all the facilities you could need were there. It was nice to just have quality time relaxing away from the noise of the city and we certainly got that. Day 2 we hoped to explore Brecon Beacons but the lashing rain and low visibility meant a rethink. We did the river walk in Brecon instead, round a great place the River Café for lunch before heading back to Hay to sit in front of the fire in a lovely little pub before walking back to the Cabin. We got the log burner going which just added to the warm and cosy feel. Really wish we could have stayed longer it was over too quickly. And oh my god the homemade bread and lemon drizzle cake that Pete left for us were AMAZING! Need the recipes!
25/02/2017Helen
Lovely cosy cabin set in a beautiful garden. Very private. Walks from the door. Welcome basket and extra touches like dressing gowns and toiletries.
21/10/2016Lynne
Our stay at Plas Bach was above and beyond our expectations. The eco cabin was so well fitted out and the welcome hamper was great. The garden was a beautiful setting for the cabin and we were free to explore as much was we liked. It was very convenient for Hay on Wye, only two minutes in the car or a 20 minute walk along Offas Dyke. We both feel very rested and relaxed ready to take on the world again!
05/09/2016Andrew
The instructions for getting there were spot on and Pete was there to welcome us. We were very comfortable and felt that the accommodation more than lived up to its description. It's a lovely area and there is lots to do and see and some great walking. There was a lot of local information provided with detailed instructions for walks in the area and good places to eat.
02/09/2016Diane
My wife and I had the most perfect stay at Plas Bach recently. It was such a lovely setting and very peaceful too. Pete is a lovely gentleman who was very kind and informative to us. We hope we might return at some time.
19/08/2016David
Wonderful, Plas Bach fulfills its promises and so much more. Peaceful and tranquill, a perfect remedy for the stresses of demanding "normal" life activities (including work). Lots of opportunities to walk, canoe or just to sit on the veranda and listen to the birds and become absorbed in to the garden! Simply beautiful!
15/07/2016Katie
I absolutely loved Plas Bach. The cabin and garden are beautiful. You have everything you need. It's close to Hay-on-Wye and other walks. I still cannot get over how wonderful the sky was at night. Stunning. I cannot recommend this place enough. And the welcome basket was amazing!!!
04/04/2016Kate
Absolutely wonderful. A peacefull place where you can sit back and relax without ever seeing anyone if you should wish.
14/09/2015Lorraine
Extremely enjoyable, couldn't be bettered. Beautiful surroundings, warm welcome, very well equipped and comfortable accommodation.
19/06/2015Robert
Our stay at Plas Bach was perfect from start to finish. Hay-On-Wye is a lovely little town, with some great places to eat, drink and shop. It's very close to Plas Bach (20 min walk, or 3 min taxi ride) yet you feel like you're staying in the middle of nowhere, which is a lovely feeling! The wood burner made it so cosy and even though it was too cold to sit outside, the setting was beautiful.
20/02/2015Tess
"Beautifully build, kitted out and kept cottage and garden. Lovely hosts. Easy to walk to Hay on Wye and lots of other walks"
23/12/2014Angelika
"Perfect. Everything we could have wanted and more. Nick and Pete make you feel so welcome. The welcome basket with Nicky's home made lemon drizzle cake was fantastic. This place would be great for both the depths of winter or the height of summer. Plenty of walks straight from the garden. Hay-on-Wye is a twenty minute walk and has it's own quirky character, which we loved. We can't wait to return"
20/10/2014Christopher
"We had the most fantastic time at Plas Bach. The house was spotless and the food parcel was more than we could have hoped for. The whole experience was relaxing, just the chill out we needed."
22/08/2014Sarah
"It was a wonderful holiday, both Nicky and Pete have worked hard to maintain a lovely, secluded cottage. Very good value for money."
17/07/2014Deborah

14/07/2014Dan
"We had a great time at Plas Bach,we where made welcome as soon as we arrived. The accommodation and surrounding garden was better than we expected, excellent. The owners had thought of everything that one would need during their stay and the accommodation was spotlessly clean. They where every helpful, there if we needed them, but left us to ourselves. An exelent break in an amazing place."
09/06/2014Rosemary
"Fantastic. Lovely setting, beautiful cottage and welcoming hosts."
20/05/2014Tom
"Most wonderful stay. The place was lovely - and allowed two people to hide from reality for a weekend. Returning to normal was very hard. The hosts were brilliant - left you alone and were far enough away for you to feel independant but were on hand if needed. Plas Bach had everything you needed and more. The hamper on arrival, the fire and all the extras that we kept finding. Would love to visit again and hopefully will."
07/03/2014Jenni
"Despite the weather we had a wonderful stay at Plas Bach. Both Nicky and Pete made us very welcome and you cannot help but relax in the seclusion of the place. Sitting on the porch, listening to the sound of the dingle running past and watching copious numbers of birds feeding in the garden. With the log burner ablaze you are as warm as toast no matter the weather outside."
14/02/2014Peter
"We really enjoyed our stay at Plas Bach. The complete solitude coupled with beautiful night skies and a rushing river was everything a relaxing break could ask for. Out hosts Nicky and Pete were wonderfully friendly and helpful and the little hut was very cosy and comfortable to stay in. Very private and very quiet which is exactly what we wanted. The little extras with the booking like the tasty homemade cake, eggs, hand made bread, milk, tea and filter coffee not to mention some cider and fresh apple juice - phew! Totally spoilt overall. Hay on Wye was lovely to visit and we had good meals everywhere. Plas Bach backed onto a good walk too which was a brisk January tramp in the mud but we loved it nonetheless. We will be back! We loved the hosts and we loved the place."
24/01/2014Lydia
"It was very pleasant, comfortable cosy and had everything we needed. We liked the welcome pack very much."

It was a wonderfully cosy little cabin. Pete was very warm and welcoming, and very kind. He left us a nice hamper of local food which we enjoyed greatly. The walk along the footpath to Hay is lovely and the black mountains are on the doorstep, an excellent stay.

Lovely place, peaceful and well maintained.
14/02/2025Emma
We really enjoyed our time at the cosy, spotlessly clean and well situated little house and garden in Powys. The sound of the stream next to the verandah and the birds singing was very peaceful. We liked the secluded feel to the place yet Haye on Wye was a 20 minute walk across the hill and down the public footpath, or alternatively a 30 minute easy walk down the little road. The owner was very friendly and suggested places to visit and things to do locally too. A beautiful cottage with all the amenities and a peaceful unhurried atmosphere was just what we needed for our short break. Thank you indeed.

The cabin had everything we needed, Peter was freindly and welcoming on arrival. We had a peaceful stay enjoying the lovely garden, walking in the surrounding area and exploring Hay on Wye.
25/03/2024Kate

29/12/2023Sophia

Plas Bach was a wonderful place to stay. The cabin was remarkable. It had everything you could possibly need, was charming, stylish and cosy. The wood burning stove was perfect for our Autumn stay. I had the best sleep for months. We would love to stay again.

What a delightful garden shed! We really enjoyed our stay here, even though the weather wasn't particularly bright. Cosy and comfortable, and in a very peaceful setting. The nearby stream providing a soothing backdrop sound.

We had a wonderful break. Warm welcome, clean and cosy. Very quiet and a lovely 15/20 minute walk along the Offa Dyke into Hay.

We very much enjoyed it. The cabin was comfortable, well equipped and exceptionally clean! We had a nice welcome from Pete and a basket of goodies. We loved the many walks from the cabin and the kayaking at Wye valley Canoes.

A lovely peaceful long weekend - very comfortable and well appointed. The wood burner makes it very likely that this would also be very snug in the winter.

We loved our stay at Plas Bach, the tranquillity of being away from everyday life was just wonderful, once Pete had shown us around we were left to our own devices, and it was absolutely perfect
