Overview
Ty Mamgu (Grandma’s House) is a cosy cabin in a quite spot on the farm at Nantgwynfaen where you have peace and privacy. Its quaint, rustic look hides a couple of nods to the modern world, in the form of a smart TV with Bluetooth sound bar, and a Roberts radio. There’s a games barn that you share with guests of the cottages on other parts of the farm, but also a piano and a writing desk in Ty Mamgu if you’ve come to engage in more traditional forms of entertainment. It’s the sort of place where a good book and the warmth of the wood burner is really all you need, but you also have some stunning countryside to explore. The views from the outside seating and even the shower are fabulous, but heading out into the hills or over to the coast is even better.
Lovely Cardigan Bay and the gorgeous little beach at Mwnt are great spots for a swim or a dolphin-spotting trek along the All Wales Coastal Path. There are bus services that run up and down the coast so you might be able to hike one way and then get dropped back at your car. A delicious outing is on offer just up the road from Ty Mamgu as well, where a gin distillery and cheese maker sit side by side at Teifi Cheese, waiting for you to try their fabulous wares. Come back via the farm’s own shop and you can pick up some extremely local produce for the BBQ before you settle in for the night. Exterior lighting is kept to a minimum to let the night sky shine and as you sit outside Ty Mamgu with the campfire lit, keep an eye and an ear out for the masses of wildlife that call the beautiful spot home.

Meet Amanda and Ken
In 1998 Amanda and Ken, their young family and young-at-heart parents arrived at Nantgwynfaen in search of the good life. Leaving their Surrey homes and jobs behind they started farming organically, rearing Tamworth pigs, hens and suckler cattle with a lot of enthusiasm (and a copy of John Seymours Complete Guide to Self Sufficiency firmly tucked under one arm). The farm has grown and changed over the years and the business has diversified to include fabulous holiday accommodation. They still have hens and live the good life, but no longer milk house cows or make hay having retired from ‘farming’ in 2007. However the farm is let to another organic farmer who grazes the spectacular 60 acres with lambs in spring and cattle during the summer. The farm shop sells their own recipe sausages and it specialises in local and organic produce for which they retain a strong connection to. Ken is the resident artist, his paintings adorne the walls and his tactile woodwork is everywhere. Amanda juggles many hats but is happiest in the polytunnel and flower cutting garden. The farm is their life, and the love and care they feel for the place is clearly reflected wherever you look.
Wildlife & the environment
Nantgwynfaen is an organic farm with an abundance of wildlife. Looking up buzzards, red kites, swallows (April – Sept), sparrows, robins, thrushes, tits, woodpeckers, owls, butterflies, dragon flies, heron and wild ducks on the pond. Looking down, rabbits, foxes, moles, badgers (many badger sets on the farm), hedgehogs, tadpoles to name but a few. It is a place that Beatrix Potter would have been inspired in.
Nantgwynfaen Organic Farm has been certified Organic by the Soil Association since 2001.
The wood used for heating is sourced from a local supplier and fallen wood from the farm.

What a warm welcome from Ken and Amanda. Ty Mamgu is a lovely cosy cottage, very well equipped and comfortable.

We had a really lovely stay, the cottage was very well equipped and cosy. We were surprised with some delicious milk and eggs left for us upon arrival. The farm shop was also amazing and full of local fresh produce. The hosts were very welcoming and shared some sightseeing tips which we appreciated because we were new to the area. Will definitely come back again!

Lovely stay at Ty Mamgu in a beautiful valley surrounded by wildlife and lovely views. It's a great location for walking and close to beaches, we went to Llangranog this time and it's not far from other National Trust beaches such as Penbryn. It's so peaceful and yet not far to amenities in New Castle Emlyn. perfect spot to explore the area and a lovely warm and cosy cabin to stay in.
20/08/2024Anna
Perfect! Comfortable, clean, all amenities you could want or need are catered for. Owners are friendly and approachable. It’s situated perfectly for exploring the area, or just to chill and relax.

Lovely ‘Grandma’s House ‘ log cabin on an organic farm, decorated in a retro style. The farm was tucked away in a valley and felt miles from anywhere. Lots to see and do in the area. Lovely beaches for our dog to run on. Quaint little towns and villages to visit. All good!
23/09/2023Judith
The cottage was cleverly themed retro style and was like a 1960’s Grandmothers house. It was very comfortable and homely. The attention to detail is something the owners should be very proud of. They had thought of everything. The colour scheme, styling (even for the modern appliances), the furniture, the mismatched curtains and even the odd creepy picture (that for some reason people of that generation cherished). They had anticipated everything a guest might need and should be congratulated for this foresight. The setting of the cottage added to the ambience: surrounded by slightly overgrown shrubs and cottage garden which gave the cottage a load of privacy and a remote feel. It was very dark on a night. While on a farm it felt separate and very private. I have shared video footage of the cottage with friends and they are all jealous The driveway is slightly concealed and we missed it several times, but when we rang for directions they helped us find it. There are some lovely walks from the farm. All in all a lovely stay. Thank you to the hosts for putting so much effort and attention into making the cottage what it is. One to remember.

Beautiful place, very well appointed with everything you would need whatever the weather
25/08/2023Lynda
Beautiful location. Lovely garden. Cabin was just perfect. Lots of space & everything you need. Private & peaceful. Well stocked honesty shop.

We had the most enchanting and romantic stay at Ty Mamgu. The lodge is in the perfect location for exploring this area of Wales. With so much on offer, we will definitely be coming back again!
24/07/2023Jamie
We absolutely loved our stay at Ty Mamgu. The setting is just picturesque, on the working farm but away from the others, surrounded by meadows. We are family of 4, plus a dog who was welcomed by the owners dogs. The cottage is set up in an old fashioned way, as walking into another time/area but not lacking modern comforts. We used this location as a base to explore South Wales. Owners Amanda and Ken are very knowledgeable about the area and very friendly. The games barn was brilliant for whole family entertainment. I would highly recommend staying at Ty Mamgu.

A really enjoyable experience. The cabin is set in a beautiful, Peaceful relaxing valley. The owners attention to details is second to none, resulting in a cosy, lovely place to spend a couple of days..we received a very warm welcome on arrival from the owner relaxing, as the owner were away themselves. We definitely would like to return to Ty Mamgu.

wonderful location and such a beautiful cabin with a great view over the hills... there's even a piano in the porch!
04/04/2023Jen
It was magical. We were able to be completely secluded and enjoyed privacy and peace. The cabin was all we hoped for and mare. There was such attention to detail, that it was actually better than all of the photos we had seen before we went!

Fabulous place to stay in every way; like stepping back in time to the comfort and quirkiness of granny's house from the 50's So many lovely personal touches, and spotlessly kept! The farm shop was a revelation, just wished we'd not brought so much of our own food!

We had a magical time staying in this idyllic cottage. There are so many details which made us happy - from the incredibly well-stocked farm shop to the well-equipped kitchen and the cosy blankets to snuggle up with in front of the roaring fire. Even the bedding was wonderful.

We had a fabulous stay in Ty Mamgu. The kids enjoyed playing in the games room and exploring the honesty shop. My youngest loved meeting Ben and Dave, the owner's dogs. The location is excellent, we spent our days exploring almost deserted beaches and then returning to Ty Mamgu for cosy evenings in front of the fire.

We had a lovely stay at Ty Mamgu. “Grandma’s House” is like something out of a fairy tail. So very pretty and cosy. Great location for getting out about too

Our stay was memorable. Amanda and Ken have created the most beautiful retreat from the world. Everything one can need is at hand from beautiful beaches to glorious mountain vistas. Every aspect to make our lives comfortable was there. Ken is a true polymath. He takes enormous pride in creating a peaceful ambience.

A wonderfully situated week of peace and rest away from it all.

A wonderful little cottage set away from anyone else, this proved to be a gem and is well situated to reach many attractions and towns in the area. The hosts, Amanda and Ken have thought of everything and you will want for nothing here. Their little farms shop is very handy & Ken's pot loaf is scrummy.

Ty Mamgu is one of the loveliest places we’ve visited. The views, the privacy, the wildlife - birdsong especially - beautiful plants and outside seating, charming and comfortable interiors, ingenious use of space, lovely communal facilities, including an incredible farm shop with local produce… all wonderful. It would be possible to have a few days here and just stay put, doing local walks and enjoying the views and comforts of the cabin. However, we did go out! Cardigan was a very nice little town (booked to eat at Crwst) and Poppit Sands is spectacular for a walk. The back roads are v v quiet and would be good by bike. We enjoyed slowly driving to the coast, avoiding the A roads and taking in the beautiful scenery. Had amazing sea bass and chips from the harbour side (posh) chippie in New Quay and saw some dolphins, then walked the coast path to Aberaeron and hardly saw a soul. Bus back to New Quay. The local pub, the Daffodil looked v nice though we didn’t get round to going - next time maybe. My daughter loved the games barn (lots of competitive table tennis) and using the farm shop. The v strong WiFi and smart TV were handy - though I could happily forgo any of that
04/04/2022Jane
I had a wonderful time at Ty Mamgu – everything has been thought of and you certainly couldn’t want for anything in the superbly well stocked kitchen! After rustling up dinner, I retreated to the sofa and cosied down in front of the wood-burner with a book. Had I stayed for longer I would’ve ventured out to the nearby cheese farm and gin distillery, but Amanda keeps her organic shop well stocked for those who don’t plan to leave the site. Thank you Amanda and Ken for a brilliant stay!
03/03/2022Sarah
We wanted to explore a part of the country we are not familiar with and enjoy walking so Ty Mamgu’s proximity to the coast was a boon. We also like a few creature comforts, so the king size bed, smart TV and wood burning stove all meant our winter break was cosy and comfortable. We spent 5 days exploring the locality, walking the Wales Coastal Path and coming ‘home’ to our snug cottage was a joy. The cottage was well provided and a short walk to the farmyard took us to the organic farm shop with all the provisions we needed. The organic farm and eco ethos appealed to us.
29/11/2021Emma
Lovely location near Cardigan Bay. Was attracted to the style of the interior. Being on the farm with facilities such as farm shop and games room
19/11/2021Katy
We stayed here for a week. The accommodation and site were very peaceful and quiet, yet within easy reach of the coastline and local larger towns/countryside. When we saw Ty Mamgu and walked in through the door, we were delighted with our booking from the get go.
09/10/2021Karen
We enjoyed location-near coastal walks.
26/09/2021Peter
We stayed in this delightful and unique cabin in Nantgwynfaen organic farm for a week. We usually only camp in the summer because can’t really afford high season holiday lets, so this was a post pandemic treat - and it was just that! We had a live week in one of our favourite areas of Wales. Great food, stunning walks and big choice of seaside within a short drive. We fell in love with Ty Mamgu and the farm.
24/07/2021Bonnie
An absolutely magical break away. This is our 2nd stay at the Farm but in a different rental which was 5 star. TY Mamgu was exceptionally clean and welcoming with fresh Milk and Eggs on arrival and of course our freshly baked bread which we pre ordered. The property came with a delightful out door fire pit (plenty of wood supplied) and of course the indoor wood burner which made the stay even more cosy! Our dog Hugo loved his stay also, wondering around the garden area and totally safe. The coast is only 15- 20 minute drive away and there are plenty of beaches to chose - out of season is best for parking and dogs are permitted on most beaches until May 1st. I would highly recommend TY Mamgu, TY Nodyn - both properties are quirky. Literally home to home in terms of equipment supplied. The farm is beautiful ad entertains stunning countryside views. Writing this makes me want to return !
26/04/2021Lucy
We're super excited to be adding Amanda and Ken's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Ty Nodyn should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!

All good!

We had the most enchanting and romantic stay at Ty Mamgu. The lodge is in the perfect location for exploring this area of Wales. With so much on offer, we will definitely be coming back again!

Lovely location near Cardigan Bay. Was attracted to the style of the interior. Being on the farm with facilities such as farm shop and games room

We stayed here for a week. The accommodation and site were very peaceful and quiet, yet within easy reach of the coastline and local larger towns/countryside. When we saw Ty Mamgu and walked in through the door, we were delighted with our booking from the get go.

We enjoyed location-near coastal walks.

We're super excited to be adding Amanda and Ken's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Ty Nodyn should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!
