Overview
This is a truly relaxing place to stay. Sure, there’s the coastal path that you could hike for miles, kayak trips for some pleasant exertion and sights like the monolithic Culzean castle for day trips. You could even take the boat over to Arran and visit the distillery. If you are coming and going, you might bump into guests of the two other cabins, Brae and Bennan, which are well out of sight through the trees and share only the parking area, but you could just settle in with a tonne of food and enjoy an indulgent few days in the warm wooden surroundings of Baron.
Baron was designed by Tracy and Angus to be a little bit luxury chalet, a little bit frontier and a lot cosy Scottish bolthole. You get sea views from the king-size bed on the mezzanine just by lifting your head, while downstairs on the leather sofa by the wood burner, it’s not even that much effort. The same goes for the bath and the fireplace, which are both outside. The tub is under the long veranda so you can soak away whether the sea is glowing in the setting sun or churning grey under moody skies. The fireplace is on the outside of the chimney and you can pull the rocking chairs round to toast marshmallows or just sit and listen to the gentle crackle of the flames.

Isle of Arran - a worthwhile trip recommended by your hosts. The island is only 55 miles around, and there is a lot to fit in:- Brodick Castle, Lochranza Castle, Arran Distillery, Arran Brewery, Arran Aromatics and Arran Cheese. Climb Goatfell- Arran's highest mountain and a famed Corbett rises up over Brodick rather like a volcano. The walk will take approx. 5 hours and the views from the summit are well worth the climb.

This cosy three-room cottage is where Burns was born and lived until the age of seven. The nearby museum houses the world's most important collection of Burns artefacts and works.

Meet Tracy, Angus and Luna the Labrador
The Dunure Estate lies between the Kennedy strongholds of Culzean Castle and Dunure Castle. Reaching from the shoreline to the top of the Carrick Hills, Drumshang and Dunure Mains are famous old Ayrshire farms that have been in the same family for 60 years. Drumshang surrounds the Electric Brae, a unique bit of road that gives the illusion of heading uphill, when in fact you are going down. Dunure Mains was home to the world record holding Clydesdale horse, The Baron of Buchlyvie. Tracy and Angus live on the farm with Luna the Labrador and are involved in the day to day running of the place.
Wildlife & the environment
Going from the seashore to the heathland tops makes great habitat for all sorts wildlife. Frequent visitors to the cabins are roe deer, foxes, badgers and squirrels. Most evenings you are serenaded by owls. The cliffs are home to a variety of seabirds and 2 pairs of peregrines.
Part of the estate is covered by an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). They have the ruins of very ancient settlements near the shore. The Ayrshire Coastal Path runs through the estate. It's a well-maintained path, suitable for walking only, that covers the whole Ayrshire coastline.

Dog friendly was a big plus for me. I loved the secluded look of the cabins with a stunning view and it didn’t disappoint!

Absolutely wonderful stay at the Baron. Every detail carefully considered. Cosy, atmospheric, authentic ,rustic. Thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in the beautiful nature around us. Truly memorable
05/08/2024Kara L
This place was marvelous! We had a wonderful time there. Angus, the owner, considered every single detail, and we were treated like royalty. We felt in love with the region and are seriously considering to move. The experience exceeded all our expectations!

Baron Lodge was a fabulous place to spend a long weekend, a beautiful peaceful location with stunning views away from it all. The lodge is well equipped, clean and comfortable. Little touches like the bubble bath and robes were really appreciated. The hosts have clearly thought through what makes a good place to stay and they have got it just right. They were also friendly and helpful

Absolutely amazing. It ticked every box for us. A great welcome. Everything explained. The cabin is very quirky, which we loved. We have very hectic lives and my partner said his favourite thing from our trip away was seeing me relax. We sat out on the veranda over looking the beautiful landscape and the sea. A fire outside to read besides. In the evening we took a bath in the outdoor bath. We spent two hours a night in the bath sat chatting. It was bliss. The bed was a king-size and was very comfortable, none of the usual back aches from a strange bed. Everyone should experience this place at least once in their lives. We visited 2 beaches and a few towns and villages. No more than half an hour away. My friends said my picture looked like I was in a Canadian forest with the blue sky above the trees. The place was spotless, they really have thought of everything. The people who came up with the design and location must be very passionate people. They have created the most idyllic place. Well done

A wonderful stay. A beautiful cabin with touches of luxury. Amazing location and views.
09/02/2024Laila
It was everything we were hoping for. A quiet, relaxed break out in the countryside. The cabin was warm and homely, and there were enjoyable walks to take the dog on.

I chose this accommodation as a birthday treat for my partner. I loved the location of being near the coast and looking out over the water. We were lucky with the weather and were able to get out and about but also spent a lot of time in the cabin itself. I can't praise it highly enough. The three properties were well apart from one another which allowed privacy to each one. The communications from our hosts were helpful. The welcome pack was greatly received as was the plentiful supply of logs (which is not always the case in some accommodation). We used the path through the woods to walk down to the nearby village for a couple of drinks, the views from the Coastal Path are amazing. We will undoubtedly return here in the future and will find this place difficult to top.

We had an amazing stay at Mount freedom cabins. Although it rained pretty much every day we were blessed with a beautiful sunset when we arrived and another the night before we left. Just beautiful. Really peaceful and although two other cabins along side us it was very private, enough for me to enjoy a hot bath on the porch, when the opportunity presents itself!!
02/10/2023Sarah
From the woodland walk to the cabin to the incredible sea views, Mount Freedom is something special. There was everything we needed in the cabin and more. We had a warm and friendly welcome from Angus, who told us everything we needed to know and left us in the most wonderful private retreat.
16/09/2023Victoria
Had a fantastic three night stay at the Baron - the cabin was spotless, had everything we need and we were shown where everything was located. The views from the porch were incredible.
18/08/2023Judith
Absolutely amazing. Tracey and Angus had thought of everything to ensure our stay was perfect. Beautiful location with stunning views. Clear sky on second night allowed for superb stargazing with shooting stars and satellites.
07/08/2023Larissa
We received a Canopy and Stars gift voucher from our son as a Christmas present and decided to use it for a short break to coincide with our wedding anniversary. How grateful we are that we chose this accommodation at Mount Freedom. From the moment of our arrival, with the warm and helpful welcome of owner Tracy, to our departure four days later we savoured a unique and truly memorable experience. The cabin manages to give you the feeling of stepping back in time while retaining all the mod cons you need at the same time. The sea view out towards Ailsa Craig from the front porch is stunning - and there is no better way to soak them up than from the outdoor bath which is an inspired feature of the property. We loved the winding walk through the woods and farmland down into Dunure and the welcoming local pub. We took our two dogs with us and it was perfect for them too with plenty of walking options. For a digital detox and serene escape from the hurly-burly of everyday life, Baron had it all. It was our own little house on the prairie for a few days and we absolutely loved it.
17/07/2023Stephen
It was beautiful - start to finish. Angus met us to guide us to the cabin, and filled us in on some suggestions for the area. It was tranquil and the views were stunning. Everything was perfect and we could not have asked for better. Very clean and high quality place to stay. Angus and Tracy even put a just married sign in the cabin as we’d just got married. It was so so nice.
22/03/2023Louise
We absolutely loved our stay at Mount Freedom Cabin's. The most amazing space and a great location. The hosts were fantastic with their communication and every detail of the cabin was so well thought out and excecuted. From the welcome basket to the wheelbarrow for taking your belongings to the door everything was thought of. We cannot wait to visit again
20/02/2023Sarah
I stayed at the Baron for a long weekend in February with my boyfriend and we couldn't have had a more pleasant stay. The owner Angus was so friendly and helpful to us, we were particularly grateful when he and his son carried out a rescue mission to help our car out of the mud one evening! There was plenty to do in the area of Dunure/Ayshire even though we spent most of our time in the cabin. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely visit again.
17/02/2023Eve
Such amazing accomodation in the most beautiful setting, with so many lovely small touches and finishes throughout the cabin. The perfect place to switch off and relax, with the option of some beautiful walks through the woods/farmland/coast. We had some car issues before our arrival and Angus went above and beyond to promptly help us get sorted. We cannot recommend staying here enough!
06/02/2023Kate
We loved every minute that we spent in the cosy cabin. The setting, the build quality, the simplicity and of course the bath!! Everything is so well thought out, what lovely memories we have.
28/10/2022Anna
I can't even say how absolutely perfect our stay at the Baron was. It was the most beautiful little cabin in the absolute best location you could ask for. We managed to fill two days without even getting in the car and going elsewhere once we arrived, not even the rain spoilt the experience! I wanted to hide away for my 30th, and staying in the Baron with my partner and dog was all I wanted it to be and more. With the exception of Angus showing us round, we didn't see a soul during our stay, despite the other two cabins on site being booked out! So much thought has gone into these cabins, we loved the thoughtful snack basket that was left, and very much appreciated the marshmallows to toast, there were even dog towels and bowls, absolutely everything had been thought of. We especially loved how much thought had gone into the guide about the local area, including sign posted walks through the owners land. I would whole heartedly recommend a stay here for anyone at all who just wants to get away from it all, our entire experience was just perfect and we'll definitely be back. Excellent for those brining their four legged friends too.
19/10/2022Hannah
We chose the cabin as it looked so much more impressive than any others. The quality of the construction and the views from the cabin. It had been recommended highly from a friend who had stayed there before. We were on our honeymoon and it was a perfect location. Not much phone service or a TV which was ideal! Just stunning views and a cosy cabin for drinks and food and playing board games. The cabin was lovely and warm from the heater and the fire on the night. The owner brought us more logs when we ran out. The dogs loved it so cosy and plenty outdoor space. There was lots of wildlife wandering, birds, deer and even a fox. Fab outdoor bath which was very relaxing and romantic! There isn't much to do locally, a nice walk down the harbour , which has a castle ruin, pub, gift shop and cafe. We travelled to Ayr for amenities and a restaurant.
14/10/2022Ginny
Amazing stay in an unbelievable location. The cabin was well equipped and super clean . In an amazing setting on the edge of a forest by the sea .
30/09/2022Karen
We had a fantastic stay at Mount Freedom Cabins. We were in Baron cabin, which had a spectacular view over the Firth of Clyde and Ailsa Craig. The cabin was great, with lovely touches and attention to detail.
19/09/2022Niall
Amazing time in a beautiful part of Scotland. Surrounded by deer and wildlife. Hugh quality cabin, comfy bed, outdoor candlelit bath - pretty perfect
26/08/2022Jennifer
An absolutely beautiful cabin, in an exquisite spot. We were able to gaze over the sea and watch the sun set, all from our very private veranda. Just wonderful.
24/08/2022Beverley
Amazing place with a wonderful view from the bath!
15/08/2022Elizabeth
I can't recommend this place enough for anyone who is looking to go. The location is fantastic, when at the cabin you don't see anyone for the whole stay (we stayed for 10 nights). From waking up in the morning with a coffee sat on the porch, watching deer walk past. To an outside bath watching the sun come up / go down. Many beaches close to visit. Massive thanks to the hosts, they are so helpful. They recommend taking my paddle board from Croy Beach which I did many times. Endless options for walking the dog. And a great trip on the Ferry to the Isle of Arran, we drove the coastal route around the whole island. My only advice, if you are thinking of booking this, double the amount of nights that you are thinking of staying, you will not want to leave! Since having our dog (who's nearly 3) we've done of 20 UK dog friendly holidays, this one was the best by far.
15/07/2022Daniel
I had a weeks stay at Baron which I thoroughly recommend if you like peace and quiet and some countryside walks. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and the accommodation first class.
24/06/2022Theresa
Truly wonderful place to get away from it all, lovely and secluded, great views, very comfortable and the outdoor bath was great
16/05/2022Gillian
What a location beautiful cabin and surrounding area was lovely. If it’s peace and tranquillity you are looking for this is the place.
06/05/2022Kay
Stunning sea views, amazing location and beautiful cabin to relax in. It was simply tranquility itself, and the outdoor bath looking out to sea is the icing on the cake. We really didn,t want to leave as it's a place to find complete relaxation and unwind. The cabin held everything you need, and the log burner kept it more than cosy. There was a welcome pack and the owners have thought of everything to help make your stay perfect, we will most definitely return.
30/03/2022Darren
Incredible cabin with beautiful views. Really enjoyed our stay and were well looked after by our hosts Angus & Jake. They went above and beyond for us and we couldn't be any more appreciative.
28/03/2022Craig
What a fabulous break. We couldn’t have asked for a better location. The cabin was tucked away in a lovely spot with the most amazing views, especially on an evening the sunsets were amazing! The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed. A lot of thought has gone into stocking the cabin from marshmallows, oil and the basics to the luxury of the Prosecco, bath robes and toiletries that were supplied. The Log burner kept us nice and cosy on an evening and Jake made sure we had enough wood to keep us going. The outdoor bath was lovely and deep and real treat to use whilst the sun was setting. Thank you Jake you were the perfect host.
04/03/2022Vicki
We stayed for 2 nights and we wished we booked longer. It was fantastic, we've stayed in a few cabin-style staycations and this was THE BEST! The host was really nice and we felt looked after. It was a wonderful 2-day break!

My wife and I are not long home from an amazing weekend at the Baron. We couldn’t rate the lodge any higher, it felt like we were on Fraser’s ridge with Clare and Jamie in 18th century America but with all the luxuries of today. We particularly loved waking up and sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee enjoying the beautiful views, we loved the privacy and tranquility. My wife is absolutely disgusted that she now has to bathe indoors now…the bath, with lots of bubble bath and the chilled Prosecco provided was a lovely indulgent treat. We are looking forward to booking again. Other things we enjoyed from our stay are, the super comfortable mattress, being provided with a little treat basket aswell as everything else we could need, the lambs wool blankets for keeping off the chill while sitting outside in the evening and while the weather was too windy on our stay, we loved and look forward next time to sitting in the rocking chairs by the outside fire. Thank you Tracy and angus for a perfect weekend.
25/02/2022Andrew
We spent a wonderful 4 nights at Baron. Despite the interesting Scottish weather, our stay could not have been better. It was exactly as we'd hoped for - a beautiful space in a stunning location. We were given a warm & personal welcome from Angus & all instructions were clear. The cabin itself is a marvel; cleverly designed & beautifully constructed, cozy & well appointed. It had everything we needed with lots of nice surprises such as bubble bath for the fabulous deep outdoor tub, prosecco in the fridge, sweet treats like local fudge & marshmallows to toast over the log burner. There was a DVD player, a Bluetooth speaker, binoculars, a boot dryer...the list goes on. And don't get us started on how comfortable the bed was. The cabin had wonderful views, it was warm despite the near freezing gale conditions, and was simply the perfect spot to recharge & enjoy being away from it all. We managed a couple of walks with our dog (she loved every minute of her stay too), one down to the Anchorage pub in Dunure which was fantastic, and a blustery walk out the back of the csbin to Mount Freedom & beyond which rewarded us with fabulous views. A wondrous 4 days, thank you!
21/02/2022Gareth
The cabin was absolutely beautiful and equip with everything we needed and more. Everything provided was of a really high quality and the hosts have clearly paid a lot of attention to detail. The suggested walks were great and very easy to follow and there was lots of useful information provided such as nearby places to visit, eat and shop. The setting was just breathtaking - it’s remote, very private and has the most incredible view - it’s the perfect escape from everyday life. We couldn’t get enough of waking up to the view - even when the weather was bad. The hosts were so lovely, incredibly helpful and very attentive. If I could rate this holiday higher than a 10/10 I would - it’s the perfect getaway. I couldn’t recommend it more and we will certainly be going back.
04/02/2022Maria
Coming through the door and seeing the hills and sea stretched out in front was amazing. I could have sat on the porch in the rocking chair (or laid in the bath!) and looked at that view all day

From the woodland walk to the cabin to the incredible sea views, Mount Freedom is something special. There was everything we needed in the cabin and more. We had a warm and friendly welcome from Angus, who told us everything we needed to know and left us in the most wonderful private retreat.

Had a fantastic three night stay at the Baron - the cabin was spotless, had everything we need and we were shown where everything was located. The views from the porch were incredible.

Absolutely amazing. Tracey and Angus had thought of everything to ensure our stay was perfect. Beautiful location with stunning views. Clear sky on second night allowed for superb stargazing with shooting stars and satellites.

We loved every minute that we spent in the cosy cabin. The setting, the build quality, the simplicity and of course the bath!! Everything is so well thought out, what lovely memories we have.

We had a fantastic stay at Mount Freedom Cabins. We were in Baron cabin, which had a spectacular view over the Firth of Clyde and Ailsa Craig. The cabin was great, with lovely touches and attention to detail.

Amazing time in a beautiful part of Scotland. Surrounded by deer and wildlife. Hugh quality cabin, comfy bed, outdoor candlelit bath - pretty perfect

An absolutely beautiful cabin, in an exquisite spot. We were able to gaze over the sea and watch the sun set, all from our very private veranda. Just wonderful.

Amazing place with a wonderful view from the bath!

I had a weeks stay at Baron which I thoroughly recommend if you like peace and quiet and some countryside walks. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and the accommodation first class.

What a location beautiful cabin and surrounding area was lovely. If it’s peace and tranquillity you are looking for this is the place.

Incredible cabin with beautiful views. Really enjoyed our stay and were well looked after by our hosts Angus & Jake. They went above and beyond for us and we couldn't be any more appreciative.

Coming through the door and seeing the hills and sea stretched out in front was amazing. I could have sat on the porch in the rocking chair (or laid in the bath!) and looked at that view all day

Staying at the Baron was idyllic. Waking to birdsong, creating a crackling fire and moonlit baths were just a few of our favourite moments. We would highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again! Many thanks to Angus and Tracy for making our stay so special!
