Overview
At just three miles from Stonehenge, this area’s been a good place to kick back for a few millennia. History’s found woven through so many elements at Druid’s Barrel, whether it’s the Nissen Hut design that owner Frank based the designs upon, or even the finds that were discovered whilst building the Barrel. Despite these blasts from the past, the hut’s plenty modern – with a modern bathroom and kitchen, and a very snug interior – which celebrates its incredible views with a massive picture window at the front. When you’re not staring over your toes at the fields and hedgerows, you could be reading in the armchair by the roaring fire, or struggling to keep your eyes open in the double hammock.
Let’s face it, you’re probably going to spend a while scratching your head over how they got those rocks up so high. But there’s much more to find in the neighbourhood than just Stonehenge. But if you came in search of kicking back, then make like our ancestors did, huddle round the firepit at your space, and spend an evening mesmerised by the stars and fire. Or if you’re enjoying a day in, use the plunge pool/hot tub – just remember to let it heat up for 8 hours first, or it’s definitely a plunge pool!

Meet your hosts
Meet Frank and Lou
Frank and Lou purchased Scotland Lodge Farm in 2014. They purchased the property due to the magnificent views from the farm of the Wiltshire countryside. The farm combines Lou’s passion for horses with Frank’s love of sheep; you will see plenty of both animals on Scotland Lodge Farm.
The site was initially constructed for private use but following the reaction of visits from family and friends, Lou and Frank were very quickly persuaded to advertise for short breaks and holidays.
Wildlife & the environment
You will be able to enjoy the full spectrum of wildlife that Wiltshire has to offer; the sighting of buzzards and red kites is commonplace. If you are observant, you may be able to observe the beautiful Stonechat and at dusk you may be able to spot up to 5 species of bat (Soprano pipistrelle, Common pipistrelle, Serotine, Myotis and Brown long-eared bat). As you will be on a lively farm directly opposite a nature reserve, you will be surrounded by horses and sheep and be able to spot badgers, foxes, deer and rabbits.

What a wonderful place to stay! The cabin was cosy and warm and had everything we could need. The location was superb only a short drive to the nearest town. Fabulous views from the farm and beautiful walks close by! Dog friendly too! We had a fabulous stay!

Basically this was the best 4 nights we have had on a break! Location was perfect, sitting on the terrace with nothing but rolling Fields around us and the sound of birdsong was bliss. We truly relaxed in a way we have not done in a long time. The Druids barrel probably exceeded expectations and had everything we needed. As the other reviews have mentioned the hosts Frank and Lou were on hand for anything we needed. Further afield the walks into Berwick St James were really nice and although the pub wasn't open during the day the cafe at the farm shop was delightful. We took a bus into Salisbury, it only takes 30min, so had no need to use the car at all. The best piece of advise in the information we were sent was to take a head torch, I would really recommend it. This was a trip we will hopefully take again.

Absolutely outstanding! Every need was catered for: and the silence and solitude was astounding. The barrell exceeded every expectation; Frank was a perfect host! The paddock’s were a beautiful evening stroll. The outside bath is worth the effort. 100% recommend xxx

We had a fantastic long weekend here. The Barrel is set up with everything you could need and is in a brilliant location, it’s the perfect space to relax and get away from it all. Plus Frank was a great host. We would definitely recommend staying here!

We loved our stay in Druid's Barrel, it had everything we needed and the view was amazing to wake up to! We arrived quite late on the Friday night unfortunately, but Frank was really accomodating and helped us unpack our car into the cabin. Frank also gave us a great recommendation for the Sunday, which was so kind. I'd definitely recommend.

Our time at Druid’s Barrel was lovely. A calming weekend before the chaos of Christmas was everything we wanted and more. Can’t recommend it enough!
15/12/2023Tara
We had a lovely stay. Frank was very welcoming when we arrived. The cabin was cosy, comfortable and well equipped with beautiful views over the fields. A perfect location to relax and enjoy walks with the dog and reading by the fire. It was a perfect break and we can't wait to go back.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights & enjoyed a lovely long weekend together. The barrel was clean, cosy & well equipped with everything that we could need. Although it got very cold overnight, the gas burner warmed the place up nicely- it just took a little while to get going! Overall, we loved our escape into the countryside.
24/11/2023Becky
A lovely location with fantastic views over the rolling Wiltshire hills. The bay windows are perfectly positioned to allow you to enjoy the view. A highlight was lighting the brazier and lying under a perfectly clear sky watching the satellites pass across the Milky Way. A perfectly peaceful location that allows for you to switch off from the modern world and enjoy the countryside on your doorstep.

21/07/2023Leigh
Lazy mornings spent lying in bed looking out across the field with a cuppa and not so lazy days spent exploring the local countryside with the dog. Then back to lazy afternoons playing games on the decking and reading in the double hammock, to lazy sunsets by the firepit and even lazier evenings in the hot trough watching the stars! A truly unique space, lovingly hand-built and off-grid, to spend your days lazing in the beautiful English countryside
