Overview
Nestled in its own private woodland at Downash Wood, Coddiwomple Cabin sits with views of Bewl Water and a sense of nature, privacy and freedom that makes the city feel a lifetime away. Between dips in the outdoor Luv Tub, you can wander the trails round the huge reservoir, pop into the cafes of Ticehurst, visit Hastings and charming Rye on the coast, or stroll up to any of three great local pubs, although you might want to keep a torch handy for coming home. Even when you’re idling at the cabin, you’ll find yourself surrounded by nature, with birds, butterflies, pheasants, badgers and more thriving in the carefully managed woodlands and sometimes lambs in the neighbouring fields. However you spend your days, you’ll come back to fire up the tub and soak surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature.
The cabin’s flourishes of design don’t stop at the hot tub or the chunky wooden recliners on the deck. Inside you’ll find a chic space with soft cedar tones and ingenious upcycling with lamps made from cameras and stag antlers found in Downash Wood. There’s a king-size bed, a kitchen area with oven, hobs and fridge/freezer as well as the BBQ fire pit outside, and an en suite bathroom with a hot shower and flushing loo. You’ll find milk, juice, tea and coffee waiting for you and can order a range of lovely locally produced food and drink from Eggs to Apples, who will deliver your order on the day you arrive. It’s a couple of minutes walk to the parking area, which is the only place where you’re likely to meet guests of the treehouses and second cabin at Downash Wood. Once you’ve loaded up your trolley and headed down to the cabin, the woods are all yours and you can sit back in the tub and let all your cares steam up into the sky.

Meet your hosts
Meet Stephen & Jane
Stephen grew up on a farm in Kent and Jane is a city girl at heart having grown up in London. They bought Downash Wood as a family retreat, while their kids finished their schooling in South London. Their son dreamt of a treehouse in the woodland, so Stephen spent the next three years obtaining planning permission and building their dream secluded treehouses and cabins to share with guests.
Wildlife & Environment
The treehouses and cabins are set within five acres of deciduous woodland known as Downash Wood. Downash Wood is bordered by Bewl Water Reservoir on the north side and Tinkers Lane on the south side. The land is on the borders of Kent and East Sussex, close to three ancient settlements of Three Leg Cross to the West, Ticehurst to the South and Flimwell to the East. Resident deer, active badger setts, plenty of pheasants and rabbits can be found at Downash Wood. Buzzards, woodpeckers, barn owls and other birds can be spotted, and butterflies at the right time of year. There are meadow areas with a variety of grasses and wild flowers.

Honestly loved it. We had a proper relaxing stay, loved being detached from outside world, cabin had everything we needed. The privacy was great as we could just focus on spending time with one another. The hot tub was superb addition as well.
11/11/2024Alex
Outstanding - loved Coddiwomple Cottage, great mini break
18/10/2024Nick
Secluded sanctuary in the woods listening to the birdsong or wind rustling through the silver birches as we relaxed in the gorgeous hot tub, played scrabble by the fire pit or had time to read. Cabin perfectly cosy - sleigh type bed was like sleeping in a cloud and my 6ft 6 partner for once didn't have his feet dangling off the edge. Hot showers/heating/kitchen all mod cons and decor thoughtfully done. Short walk through woods to beautiful Bewl water and the other way across the fields to olde worlde Bull inn. It was bliss!
07/10/2024Alison
The coddiwomple cabin was the perfect get away to relax and enjoy some time away from the real world. It provided everything we needed to get cozy and settled without leaving for a few days. The hot tub was fun to get set up and we enjoyed the mornings and evenings relaxing in it even in the rain!
25/09/2024Abby
Very relaxing, peaceful and exactly the reset we needed. Great walks, lovely sights and a lovely little pub just a 15 minute walk away for lunch
18/09/2024Matt
Our stay was absolutely amazing and couldn’t ask for a better place to celebrate a birthday. It was so peaceful and tranquil. The Cabin was lovely and had everything and more to make our stay easier. Unfortunately we didn’t have to weather on our side but the Cabin was so cosy it didn’t matter , getting away from the normal day to day hussle and bussle it was bliss .

Second time here this year. So relaxing i forgot that we were meant to leave and we were still eating breakfast when they came to ready the cabin for next guests! Absolute peace and tranquillity, birdsong, humming of insects absolute silence other than nature. Amazingly comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, wood fired hot tub ( amazing to cool down in in the day and relax in in the evening under the stars. We will definitely be back.
21/06/2024Nicky
Relaxing stay to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary.
03/06/2024Penny
We loved our stay at Coddiwomple Cabin. The cabin is really secluded on the farm but still feels safe. There are other cabins and treehouses on the farm but they are all so spread out so you really feel like you have your own space. The cabin was lovely and the deck was my favourite part. I loved the log burner outdoor bath and the barbecue. Cookies and fresh coffee on arrival was also a treat!
29/05/2024Ryan
We had an amazing stay at the Coddiwomple Cabin. We really enjoyed the privacy and how spacious the cabin was. The hot tub was the highlight. The eggs and apples baskets were awesome too. We also enjoyed the Bell and the Small Holding for dinners and lunches.

Absolutely perfect. Cabin is beautiful and cosy, the hot tub is out of this world and the surround is wonderful. Everything has been thought of in the cabin, you didn't want for anything.
24/01/2024Claire
Absolutely loved my stay. I wanted to escape London and immerse myself in nature and this place offers exactly that. It's so easy to get to on the train from London and has all the amenities you could need. I will definitely be coming back and exploring more of the area. Pro tip: if you are getting the train make sure you book a taxi from the station, call Prue from Time busters Taxis (details in CC location section) , she was an absolute delight!
17/01/2024Sam
The Cabin was amazing. Everything had been thought of, it was clean, in a lovely setting and had everything we needed! I would definitely recommend and the area was wonderful too. Loved our stay here. The cabin is so cute and well kitted out (we loved the hot tub and the super comfy bed!). Location is fantastic, you really are in the middle of the woods surrounded by nature and the neighbouring villages are gorgeous with some great pubs etc.. Check in was great and really easy thanks to the helpful info from Stephen and Jane. Would definitely recommend.
24/07/2023Hayley
Just a perfect little spot, lots of low key things to do nice pubs nearby and the bewl resevoir walk was a good afternoon out. Really well thought through location. Would love to come back again.
17/07/2023Reuben
We enjoyed tonight at Coddiwomple cabin- the host had thought of everything, and it really was a home from home. From a privacy aspect, it was perfect and very secluded and quiet. The cabin was clean and well equipped and outside areas were beautiful. We enjoyed barbecues and stargazing at the fire pit and in the daytime we visited Bodiam Castle. The open space, the cabin was located in was beautiful with wildflowers and butterflies galore.
05/07/2023Claire
Amazing cabin that gave us what we wanted and more. So private and peaceful, felt like a little retreat. The hot tub was so worth having, sipping wine looking at the stars was amazing. Lovely walk into the village around Bewl water, far enough but nothing crazy. Lots of lovely country pubs but decided just to go sit and relax at cabin as it was just too lovely not to. We cooked both nice in a lovely little kitchen with everything we needed. BBQ was great too. We loved it so much thinking of booking for Christmas!
07/06/2023Jenni
Our stay at Coddiwomple Cabin was calm, relaxing and just absolutely perfect. We wanted to go somewhere where we could completely switch off and this was the place for it! From the moment we arrived we were calm. The hot tub and fire were perfect, it was so fun bringing the hot tub to life using the log burner. We loved sitting in the tub under the stars and listening to the sound of nothing around us. I love how the cabin was so secluded yet felt so safe, and the view of Bewel Water was brilliant! I wish we had booked for longer because I could easily get well and truly lost there!
20/03/2023Hannah
Brilliant!
24/02/2023James
We loved our stay at Coddiwomple Cabin. The cabin itself was perfect. Simplistic but still really well equiped and so cosy! The extra 'birthday' touches that I had asked for were a lovely addition and a nice surprise for my partner. Being able to completely switch off and just enjoy nature was priceless. We both relaxed into cabin life so quickly like a big sigh of relief. Waking up to the view our of the picture frame window was my favourite part. I would highly recommend Coddiwomple Cabin, or the other cabins at Downashwood.
17/02/2023Jenna
Wonderful place. Peaceful. Beautifully arranged.
08/02/2023liz
Absolutely perfect in every way! The cute, finer details just made it that extra bit special.
04/01/2023Chloe
Rural location with many walks, relaxing, exploring aspects to enjoy. Comfortable accommodation with wood fired hot tub and decking area, all within the trees, surrounding wildlife and enjoyable time in all weathers - the rain on the roof, the full moon, clouds, stars, sunshine- we spent a very tranquil and rejuvenating week at the cabin.
07/11/2022Helen
We absolutely loved our three night stay at the Coddiwomple Cabin. Such a relaxing, quiet and special little place hidden in such gorgeous green surroundings. It was clean, well equipped and the owners were really helpful.
14/10/2022Jade
It was exactly as seen on the pictures. The cabin clean and cosy, equipped with everything needed for few days stay. The hot tab was a great experience and walking around the surrounding areas was a great option as well. It is very secluded place to disconnect from the busy city life.
21/09/2022Kris
Lovely cabin in a great location. So peaceful and quiet.
14/09/2022Anneka
From the moment we arrived our stay was wonderful! Such a clean well looked after cabin with the beautiful hot tub. The treats left for us in the kitchen were such a nice touch and it was nice to be able to switch off an relax for a few days and just watch the birds from the tub.

We had the most amazing time at this beautiful cabin which has everything you could need for a relaxing and luxurious break amongst nature. We loved the hot tub which once heated, stayed pretty hot for the time we were there, and the general decor of the cabin was lovely, it had a very woodland but also modern feel to it. The place was immaculate with a lot of thoughtful small touches and the location was perfect - close to some lovely country pubs and on the outskirts of Bewl Water whilst also feeling like it was miles from anywhere.

Very relaxed and peaceful 4 night stay. Cosy and well furnished cabin. Hot tub was great and easy to use. Easy to find, ample parking. Lots to do in and around the local area and plenty of nice farm shops and restaurants to eat and drink at.

We stayed for a lovely long weekend in Coddiwomple Cabin, enjoying the local sites, activities and wildlife
13/05/2022Tom
The most amazing cabin, our stay exceeded our expectations. Everything was so well thought out. The location was amazing and it felt so quiet and secluded, making for the most relaxing time away.
25/04/2022Sophie
We had an amazing 2 night stay at coddiwomple cabin, we made plenty of use of the outdoor wood fired hot tub and barbeque. It was lovely to come back to after a long walk during the day. It felt great to be surrounded by nature and wake up to beautiful countryside views in the mornings.
04/04/2022Grace
Lovely peaceful cabin in the beautiful countryside. Extremely comfy bed. Perfect for a relaxing weekend away!
01/04/2022Charlotte
We had a long weekend in East Sussex in the cabin and it was the perfect break from the city. The cabin felt remote and secluded despite being only over an hour from London.
18/03/2022Morna
The cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. We loved that we were tucked away in the trees but with a view of Bewl water. The highlight was the log fired hot tub. While it was quite a commitment to get it warmed up, once we were in, it was a really special experience.
04/03/2022Vicky
Nice location with great local walks. Hot tub under the stars was fab. Due to storms some local places were shut but we found other things to do. Overall a nice relaxing break.
18/02/2022Joanne
Our recent stay was beyond perfect! Relaxing in the hot tub on a cold night, looking up at the stars and hearing all the animals and the wind pass through the trees. I couldn't have spent a weekend away with my partner in a more romantic place!
11/02/2022Jade
We loved this place, great nice and quiet local.
19/01/2022Gabriella
Amazing, peaceful and restoring. Loved the wood burning hot tub and proximity to nature!

Our stay was lovely despite the weather! The cabin was clean cozy and there was delicious treats on arrival. The layout was really good. A lovely experience and place that will be forever in our memories as it is where my partner proposed!

We had a wonderful stay at Coddiwomple Cabin! The whole complex was beautiful and very secluded which is great for escapism! The facilities were great and we felt very at home, would of loved to stay longer! Thank you Stephen & Jane!
17/11/2021Jessica
The cabin was lovely, clean and tidy and was set in a beautiful picturesque location. Waking up to sheep walking past our door at breakfast, and waking up to forest views we can watch from bed were highlights. While we weren't able to enjoy the hot tub on night one - it took us a long time to heat up as the logs were damp, and then we had a proper British downpour - we were able to get plenty of use out of it the next day, and we enjoyed a cosy game of Scrabble inside instead.
20/10/2021Sophie
Peaceful and enjoyable with all mod cons and luxury in the woods
08/10/2021Gillian
We came here for myself and my boyfriends anniversary and it was absolutely gorgeous. The cabin itself is perfect for two people, and the hot tub was bloody glorious. It is fire lit so adds to the fun of staying somewhere quite secluded and heating it up yourself. Once it did get hot it was so nice to be sat under the stars. Only comment on this would be that there could have been a little more lighting on the outside as it was close to pitch black in the evening. The bed is nice and large and the sheets were like sleeping in the clouds, great quality bedding goes a longggggg way. We also paid for the rose petals on the bed, marshmallows and a bottle of Prosecco which was there when we arrived which was a nice touch to be able to do. And the view of the trees in the morning out of the big window was so lovely I could have stayed there all day.
04/10/2021Chloe
We had a wonderful time in coddiwomple cabin. Stephen and Jane are excellent hosts and made everything about the stay so easy. There was a lovely selection of teas, coffee and very delicious biscuits. The hot tub was fun to prepare and great to relax in. The cabin itself is very cosy but also functional. Location is fantastic - great to get to from London. Ticehurst is a charming village just a short walk away. There are so many lovely things to do in the local area, we loved the pinetum. I highly recommend coddiwomple and we remember our time there with joy.
01/10/2021Emily
A fantastic couple of days, full of relaxation and surrounded by nature. I was really lucky with the weather and managed to see an incredible sunrise, whilst I was also able to chill in the hot tub under the stars. A change in circumstances led to me taking this trip on my own, but taking a solo trip did not take away from the great experience and ive come back home feeling refreshed.
29/09/2021Danny
We had such a lovely stay at the cabin, it was very clean with up to date decor, an amazing bbq and hot tub. Was the perfect short break, in an ideal location which was peaceful and located close to castles, pubs, towns etc. Will definitely be returning !
22/09/2021Arianna
We had a great time in the cabin, it was the perfect place to stay and get away from it all. It was so quiet and peaceful and we were able to sit outside and watch the stars in the evening. It is ideally placed to explore the local areas with a nice walk to a local pub round Bowl water.
13/09/2021Susie
We had an amazing few days In Coddiwomple cabin, it has everything you need, surrounded by nature & very close to lots of things to do
03/09/2021Sallie
The cabin is excellent. Really clean and thoughtfully decorated. Loved the location and the space and hot tub on the decking. Enjoyed playing Scrabble in the evening between dips. We asked for more towels and firewood during our stay which was sorted quickly. A relaxing stay in a beautiful location. We enjoyed a walk around Bewl Water one day. Llama trekking the next. A good location to explore the area.
16/08/2021Rhian
Perfect location/ tranquility / a perfect getaway from the hustle & bustle of life, a very high standard cabin with attention to every detail. Credit to the owner's & their team, it was our 1st anniversary so i ask Stephen & Jane for a special request to which they exceeded pass my expectations
13/08/2021Simon
Excellent cabin. Everything you could want and more. Quiet and secluded.
04/08/2021Pete
Overall we had a fantastic long weekend stay at coddiwomple cabin. It was exactly what we need to unwind and relax after a stressful year! We especially loved the hot tub, we even stay in it for hours in the pouring rain!
30/07/2021Emily
Our stay was absolutely amazing! So relaxing and such a beautiful place.
26/07/2021Lisa
Blessed by good weather , we had a luxurious 2 night stay , feeling pampered by all the facilities in a gorgeous location . Lovely accommodation, beautifully fitted out …and the trolley in the car park for luggage was an example of the extra detail that made all the difference .
21/07/2021Vanessa
We had a lovely break at down ash wood, was a peaceful location and had great facilities
12/07/2021Lianna
Fantastic value for money, the place was filled with handy bits when we turned up, and the hot tub is easy to use and the surroundings are beautiful
09/07/2021Daniel
We arrived slightly early for our two day trip. We were greeted with a stunning picturesque countryside and a beautiful and quaint cabin. The first thing we do as with many of our trips is heat up the hot tub ( which was a little more difficult as I think the wood was damp) but was able to get more kindling. The cabin itself was stunning, with a supply of local treats left by The owners. The pure still sound of nothing at night was bliss. The local village of Ticehurst was quirky. There was a beautiful walk around Bewl water.
07/07/2021Sarah
It was truly an amazing stay, the cabin was so gorgeous with such a high spec finish. Although the weather wasn't great it did not deter from our stay, hot tub in the rain a first. Sitting out in nature in the dark with fire priceless.
05/07/2021Carol
Lovely stay at this fantastic cabin. Very clean and felt luxurious. Amazing walk to the lake directly from the cabin. Great instructions and very quick response on any questions we had.
02/07/2021Mette
Had a wonderful stay here, truly felt like we were the first people to actually stay in the cabin. Everything was great quality and so clean it felt new. The bed was super comfortable and enjoyed the local milk, apple juice and cookies. The hot tub was excellent, the first night we used it the wood had gotten wet and not being the outdoorsy types my sister and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't heating. However once we had dried wood it got up to temperature in 90mins and stayed toasty for 3 hour's.
21/06/2021Caoimhe
Perfect weekend escape! We stayed 3 nights in Coddiwomple Cabin, which was stunning inside and out. The cabin was beautifully decorated with everything we needed and the gorgeous view from the bedroom made it feel even more magical. We enjoyed our breakfast outside on the decking each morning, listening to the birds and sheep outside our gate. The hot tub was amazing once we got it going (as the logs struggled to catch light), but thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility of nature surrounding the cabin. The cabin is in a great location, a 5 min walk to Bewl Water and a short drive to Bedgebury Forest which are both beautiful places to visit. The whole weekend was perfect and would definitely recommend, thank you for a serene stay at Coddiwomple!
11/06/2021Tatjana
The stay was for my dad n step mum for a Christmas present, they had the best time and wish they could have stayed longer, the cabin was beautiful with every little detail thought about from the second they arrived.. it was clean well presented and perfect for the two nights they had in coddiwomple cabin.
07/06/2021Emma
The perfect little getaway for a couple of nights, where you can fully switch off, enjoy the surroundings and the amazing hot tub, it was pure bliss!
02/06/2021Carrie
Hesitant to recommend as I would prefer to keep it a secret but in truth it is a perfect place for 2 people to chill out. We spent 5 nights at Coddiwomple - the cabin is thoughtfully & well designed & the owners have really thought of, & provided, everything you might need, from a very well equipped kitchen to a blue tooth speaker system & plenty of logs for the outside wood burners. The welcome pack was a nice touch with locally roasted coffee among other treats of biscuits, fruit juice, milk etc. The eco nature of the cabin is apparent & the deck is a perfect place to relax & look at the lovely view, watch the antics of the local pheasant & watch the birds visiting the feeders. We couldn't make full use of the deck as it rained quite a bit during our stay. Load of walks from the cabin & it is well worth walking the 13 mile route around Bewl resovoir (we walked it anti clockwise but think it would be nicer done clockwise). You can walk to The Bull at Three Legged Cross - we only had a drink but the food looked good & the staff were very friendly. Bedgbury pinetum is nearby & worth a visit but parking is costly. Would we stay at Coddiwomple again - Yes, yes, yes.
12/05/2021Sue
This was booked as a surprise for my husbands 50th birthday. With everything that has happened in the last year, and with him being classed as vulnerable, I wanted somewhere that we could relax away from it all but with all the extra luxuries, especially as this was the first time he had been away from home in a year! Coddiwomple Cabin did not disappoint. There were complimentary items in the cabin which was a lovely extra, more than we were expecting tbh. Very relaxing stay. Just what was needed. Would recommend highly!
26/04/2021Patricia
Wonderful stay at the coddiwomple cabin. Warm and excellently furnished. Great log burning hot tub. Remote area and contact free check in.
28/12/2020Rachel
We stayed for 2 nights for my husband's 30th birthday and it was fantastic! The cabin is decorated amazingly down to the small details. The location is great, lots of walks and things to see around the area and a nice 15 minute walk to the pub! The hot tub is great too but we had a hard time lighting the fire as the logs were very damp!
16/12/2020Radhika
We had the most perfect 2 night staycation in Coddiwomple Cabin at Downash Wood. Waking up to the stunning view of the woods is so peaceful and the outdoor hot tub is just dreamy. The beautifully designed cabin has everything covered from under floor heating, to Bluetooth built in ceiling speakers to plastic Prosecco flutes for a toast in the tub. I couldn’t fault Coddiwomple cabin and would 100% recommend. Thanks Stephen & Jane for a wonderful stay.
09/12/2020Shelby
A really great stay!, new warm cabin. Comfortable bed and nice coffee, biscuits on arrival! Clear directions to location, not hard to get to at all. Secluded feel which was nice.
04/12/2020lonn
The cabin is magical - even though it poured with rain the whole three days, it was a perfect escape from London. We loved the walk from the car park to the middle of the field where the cabin was - the stars looked incredible! It was perfect for cooking some small meals, and we enjoyed heading to some of the local pubs for a treat. The hot tub was fantastic, and it taught us a lot in keeping a fire going for hours to heat it! It was a perfect stay - would highly recommend!

Honestly loved it. We had a proper relaxing stay, loved being detached from outside world, cabin had everything we needed. The privacy was great as we could just focus on spending time with one another. The hot tub was superb addition as well.

We had a lovely time. It was well signposted, had the necessary amenities, and lots of care taken by the hosts. We had a lovely couple of days away.
31/01/2024Emily
Some great local pubs and restaurants. Directions and guest information was super helpful. Best cabin we have stayed in!

Absolutely perfect in every way! The cute, finer details just made it that extra bit special.

We had such a lovely stay at the cabin, it was very clean with up to date decor, an amazing bbq and hot tub. Was the perfect short break, in an ideal location which was peaceful and located close to castles, pubs, towns etc. Will definitely be returning !

We had a great time in the cabin, it was the perfect place to stay and get away from it all. It was so quiet and peaceful and we were able to sit outside and watch the stars in the evening. It is ideally placed to explore the local areas with a nice walk to a local pub round Bowl water.

Overall we had a fantastic long weekend stay at coddiwomple cabin. It was exactly what we need to unwind and relax after a stressful year! We especially loved the hot tub, we even stay in it for hours in the pouring rain!

Blessed by good weather , we had a luxurious 2 night stay , feeling pampered by all the facilities in a gorgeous location . Lovely accommodation, beautifully fitted out …and the trolley in the car park for luggage was an example of the extra detail that made all the difference .

Fantastic value for money, the place was filled with handy bits when we turned up, and the hot tub is easy to use and the surroundings are beautiful

It was truly an amazing stay, the cabin was so gorgeous with such a high spec finish. Although the weather wasn't great it did not deter from our stay, hot tub in the rain a first. Sitting out in nature in the dark with fire priceless.

Lovely stay at this fantastic cabin. Very clean and felt luxurious. Amazing walk to the lake directly from the cabin. Great instructions and very quick response on any questions we had.

The stay was for my dad n step mum for a Christmas present, they had the best time and wish they could have stayed longer, the cabin was beautiful with every little detail thought about from the second they arrived.. it was clean well presented and perfect for the two nights they had in coddiwomple cabin.

The perfect little getaway for a couple of nights, where you can fully switch off, enjoy the surroundings and the amazing hot tub, it was pure bliss!

Wonderful stay at the coddiwomple cabin. Warm and excellently furnished. Great log burning hot tub. Remote area and contact free check in.

A really great stay!, new warm cabin. Comfortable bed and nice coffee, biscuits on arrival! Clear directions to location, not hard to get to at all. Secluded feel which was nice.
