Overview
Surrounded by The Shropshire Hills National Landscape, Green Shutters looks out over the trees from its quiet little spot outside the tiny village of Clee St Margaret. It’s the perfect place to switch off for a few days, using those feet to traverse the miles of open hillside, instead of the treadmill of day-to-day life. All around, there are walks to take on, through lowland forest and even a brisk hike to a lake on top of a hill for wild swimming.
The owners, Jasper, a former boat builder turned cabinet maker and Milla, an interior decorator, have now joined forces to create Green Shutters with their combined skillsets. The cabin sits on the far side of their orchard boundary, and when you’re not out exploring, you’ll likely be out on the west-facing deck, soaking up the sun on the loungers or enjoying lunch under the shade of the canopy.
Below the deck, there’s steps down to your firepit, for when the stunning sunsets dip below the horizon and you switch to stargazing around the firebowl. But if clear skies aren’t on the cards, you’ll find yourself indoors by the crackling wood burner with board games, a glass of something special – and many plans for the next day’s adventures.

Meet Jasper and Milla
Jasper is a boat builder by trade and now specialises in joinery and cabinet making. Milla is an interior decorator who also likes to paint and explore other artistic skills. When they moved to the area, they built a workshop, extended the house, and built the cabin.
Jasper and Milla are both very serious about the environment and have tried to make the land as much of a wild haven as is possible. They have a large vegetable patch which they try to grow as much organic produce as possible and have planted the orchard with various fruit trees.
Wildlife & environment
The cabin is built from locally sourced timber and recycled timber, every piece has been carried by hand to the site. The land is special, as apart from the spectacular views and sunsets, there is no light pollution. At night you can hear the owls, look at the stars, and see the bats circling for food, and in the daytime, you can see the red kites flying. In May the field next to the cabin is a sea of bluebells and they are slowly migrating into the orchard. They even have a tiny pond by our side of the house, which is a breeding spot for newts, dragonflies etc.
For four years Milla was involved with the Curlew Survey, mapping the whereabouts of the Curlew with an aim to protecting their breeding ground. The Yeld Common has just joined the Stewardship scheme with a view to less grazing and 75 trees have been planted between the main common gate and their property to form a wildlife corridor.

From start to finish we had a wonderful experience. Booking was easy, directions easy to navigate and from meeting Jasper and being shown Green Shutters till the moment we left was an absolute dream. The area was so peaceful all you could hear is the birds. There’s lovely walks right from your doorstep. Inside Green Shutters was everything we needed. We couldn't fault any of it. The building was solid and beautifully crafted and decorated so much so we said we’d be happy living there full time! Would definitely recommend to others! Thanks for having us Jasper and Milla x

We arrived at 9pm on the Friday evening, the host greeted us and showed us to the cabin. The cabin itself is absolutely beautiful. You can tell how much time and effort has gone into creating it. Green Shutters was absolutely gorgeous, we had such a peaceful time in such a secluded place. It has been made beautifully, with such attention to detail, it was so warm and comfortable. Jasper, our host, was fantastic, very attentive if needed and clearly had put so much effort into the place. We feel very lucky to have stayed and would love to come back!

What a great place. My wife and I stayed at Green Shutters for a short break away from reality and Green shutters gave us that. The cabin is absolutely amazing. Completely hand crafted by Jasper to a very high standard with everything that you could need. We sat almost the entire stay in front of the log burner, reading and looking out across the hillside and felt very much at peace. We ventured out for a couple of hours in to Ludlow but couldn't wait to quickly get back to the peace and quiet lof the cabin. We wished that we could have stayed forever.
