Overview
There might be just the one glamping space at The Glebe Retreat, but it’ll feel like a lot more than that, with four different areas all curated onsite for a different element of your experience. Attached to the outside decking, you’ll find the main pod in an armadillo-like structure, where the kitchen, living room, dining area, bedroom and bathroom are all neatly tessellated together. Everywhere you turn, there’s something well thought out to enjoy. It could be wrapping yourself up in the waffle towelling robes after showering off the day’s adventure in the rainfall shower, whipping up scrambled eggs from a local farm with ease in the modern kitchen, or stepping out onto the deck to enjoy dinner al fresco.
Venture further than the deck, and you’ll find the other three areas set into the four and a half acres the space is built on. There’s the firepit, swaddled in a wooden fence, creating your own little world to watch sparks fly skyward or grill treats on the BBQ. Just metres away, joined by a zen-like gravel path dotted with mossy stones – you’ll find the gloriously deep stone bath (carved from a single piece of stone), with a single chair made from volcanic rock alongside, for company when you lie out under the stars. Just round 100 metres from the Glebe Retreat, you’ll also find a striking hanging lavachair made from basalt fibres. Suspended from a branch, and generously stuffed with pillows and throws to sway gently with the trees as you read or nap in the sunlight.
You’re just a 20-minute drive away from the coast and 16 minutes from the Northumberland National Park – making it easy to venture out to find adventures nearby in the rugged Northern wild, but chances are you won’t need to venture far once you’re settled in, with so much to relax into at The Glebe Retreat.

This is a stunning part of the world with which her family has been associated with for four generations. The general area is rich in visitor attractions, beautiful scenery and coastline but lacks unusual and high end accommodation so they wanted to address both these with their project. Toby and Peggy wanted guests to share in the abundant biodiversity and history of the site whilst not damaging what they love so much hence the strong eco credentials and low impact development.

A wonderful stay in the rural countryside of Northumberland. The Glebe is everything we were looking for in a weekend break - every detail had been thought about, from the treat basket on arrival & milk in the fridge, to blankets and cushions for those cosy evenings outside. Wow! The attention to detail that has gone into this place is second to none. We had the most relaxing stay at The Glebe Retreat. We were welcomed with a basket full of local treats & a happy birthday message & cake, such a lovely welcoming touch. The retreat was easy to find and a great location to visit Alnwick and the surrounding area. The space had everything you needed, we liked having a coffee machine & cooked on the bbq both evenings. Everything came with clear instructions for use. The outdoor bath was pure bliss! Relaxing in the bubbles whilst listening to an owl and watching the bats was amazing. I would highly recommend.
19/05/2023Jill
We stayed at The Glebe Retreat as a small celebration of my husbands 40th birthday. From start to finish our stay was magical. The owners had left a hamper of locally sourced goodies and even a mini celebration cake for Stephen’s birthday. Those extras really meant the world after driving all day. The building itself was a mixture of nature inspired architecture and we never stopped finding things that were hiding in plain sight. From the glazed bug salt and pepper pots to the selection of board games to play, we were inspired to slow down. The main thing for me was the amount of natural elements and textures Peggy and Toby had managed to get in such a beautifully modern space. There were soft rugs, handmade blankets and scatter cushions to use even outdoors. There really wasn’t anything that you felt you were missing. Last but not least the outdoor space! Wow!! With a tremendous history all its own the field where the retreat is situated is just a dream. Hearing the birds, bats and owls and seeing hares hopping about is something that’s greatly under appreciated in these times of fast paced life. I got to take the plunge in the huge outdoor stone bath under the stars - perfect

Such a beautiful stay. The Glebe Retreat is amazing. The attention to detail really brings everything together inside. No expense spared at all. The welcome hamper was such a lovely touch and the goodies inside were delicious, especially the apple muffin which was my favourite and my husband loved the biscuits. You really feel like your in the middle of nowhere. It is so relaxing and peaceful and the outdoor bath is lovely.
