Overview
This is upcycling like you’ve never seen it before, including the use of an actual cycle and an inverted antique bathtub. The former is in the bathroom with the sink attached to it and the latter has been used to make the hood over the oven. The draw and cupboard handles are made from old cutlery, there’s a carpenter’s workbench in the kitchen, another bathroom looks like a train carriage and even the cleaning closet is a vintage wardrobe. Once you’ve got over the decor, you’ll find the functional stuff is pretty great too. There are two double bedrooms, big sofas in the lounge space and the dedicated hot tub room. The kitchen and bathrooms are all well-equipped and every inch of the space has been finished with a light-hearted, colourful charm. You can soak in the hot tub under the night sky mural or slump in the lounge surrounded by animals on the walls. Outside there’s another, wilder kitchen, which you’re welcome but which is shared with guests of two other spaces on the other side of the meadow. The owners’ family home is also about 20 metres away and they’ll be on hand to welcome you, furnish with a few local treats, then leave you to it.
The area around you is pretty rural and you’re advised to stock up with supplies before you arrive, as there are no walkable shops. This of course means that you’re perfectly place for a little wilderness exploring. Local favourites are The Hay Bluff walk, with stunning views down into bookish Hay on Wye and out to the Brecon Beacons, or trips into the Black Mountains for more hiking, cycling (please don’t take the bike under the sink) and canoeing. If the weather’s right, then you get a little wild swimming in at Bredwardine, but if it turns, then the cafes of Hay or your very own bright and beautiful lounge room are great for a lazy afternoon of reading, movies and board games while you heat the hot tub.

This barn conversion is absolutely fantastic. There is so much thought about the detail when it comes to the decor and we had everything we needed. It's in a lovely secluded location, but only a 20 minute drives to places like Hay on Wye or 15 minutes to the local farm shop Oakchurch. We really loved our stay and plan to go back in future.
21/03/2025Ellie
Absolutely amazing place. Every detail has been thought of and the hot tub is just the icing on the cake.
11/10/2024Robyn
Excellent escape, the interior design was fabulously quirky!!
20/09/2024Elly
We had the best weekend from start to finish the experience was so easy, the owners Reuben & Martha were lovley and made us feel welcome. Communication via email was quick and the day before we arrive Reuben sent us Whats app messages with some very useful how to videos, for entry process hot tub and outdoor kitchen use. The accomodation was immaculate and absolutley stunning, the attention to detail was fantastic. Any issues we had such as advice on cooking in the pizza oven was readly given. The beds were very comfortable and lots of little extras such as hand soap, dishwasher tablets, tea towles, toilet role, some coffee pods and a lovley box of biscuits were all provided. We would love to stay again, thank you so much for making it so effortless.
19/07/2024James
We had a lovely stay. The decor was quirky but cool. The bedrooms were cosy and the outdoor kitchen is beautiful.
25/05/2024Adam
Catch up weekend with old friends. Accommodation was so beautiful and the communication with the owners was great. The videos sent by Reu were really informative without feeling intrusive.
04/05/2024Amy
Absolutely delightful! A magical stay in a beautiful barn equipped with everything you need - creatively & stylishly put together with no compromise on comfort…we loved everything!
20/08/2023Catherine
Gorgeous place imaginatively decorated with a fabulous hot tub and everything working, helpful videos, great hosts, many thanks
30/06/2023Galina
Beautiful home with so many personal touches. The hot tub is a BIG plus. On a clear night you can see so many stars. Great location for many walks/hikes.
13/01/2023Iram
The barn is absolutely stunning and a in a beautiful location. Every room has something new to explore and it a lovely play to get away to. Everything worked perfectly and we felt very welcome.
04/01/2023Sean
Fantastic time - great location, near some lovely walks, great facilities in the property and amazing design.
18/11/2022Sophie
Booked for a birthday treat for my beat friend. Just the 2 of us, a girls break. 3 nights here. Beautiful 2 bedroom cottage. The photos don't do the place justice. It's like Alice in wonderland created this little gem.
11/11/2022Colette
Hiraeth was absolutely wonderful (even more so in real life vs the listing) - we spent ages going from room to room discovering all the gorgeous little details. So much care & effort has gone into making the barn both comfortable and beautiful and I honestly couldn’t fault anything. The kitchen was small but perfectly equipped and beds were so comfortable… and the hot tub … bliss!
21/10/2022Nikki
An absolute gem of a place. Couldn’t fault it. The creativity and standard of this accommodation is hard to convey but it is comfortable, well thought out and equipped and inspiring. It feels luxurious in a very ethical way. Great location, lovely owners. One definitely to come back to
26/09/2022Jo
Lovely quirky cottage, plenty of space. Lots of fun details in the decor. Very well equipped kitchen and much bigger fridge and freezer than you usually get in holiday let's which would be good for longer stays. Close to Hay on Wye for a visit and plenty of great walking around. Very friendly and helpful hosts.
09/09/2022Zoe
We had a lovely relaxing stay. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable and the facilities very good. There were only 2 of us, but it would not have felt cramped with 4. The hot tub was not a reason we chose this property, but it was an added bonus. The outdoor kitchen was something that attracted me to the property, and it was well set up, but in the end we weren't brave enough to try to use the pizza oven. But we did spend some time sitting there enjoying the evening sunshine with a bottle of wine. We loved the quirky decor and the different themes that popped up in different rooms. We're the sort of people who seldom throw anything away in case it might come in useful so we enjoyed seeing the imaginative ways that old things were given new uses. The weather was generally good so we were able to go out and about every day - there was plenty to see and do within a short drive so we never even got to Hereford (but we have been there before so no problem).
11/05/2022Helen
We spent a long weekend in this delightful property and would quite happily have stayed much longer. On arrival we found the converted barn to be spotlessly clean. The whole property has been quirkily but very well decorated with some very interesting design features. The kitchen is well equipped, with a very new double cooker (so clean that we though it was brand new), and the indoor hot tub was the icing on the cake. We would highly recommend staying here and if we are back in the area again we will certainly try to rebook
25/03/2022Penny
The photos do not do Hiraeth justice! The attention to detail and beautiful little quirks are amazing. Feels so homely and restful. Martha and her family were so welcoming and lovely to chat to. Hot tub was wonderful after a long walk. Was a great time catching up with family in a wonderful retreat!
16/02/2022Rebecca
We had a great, relaxing and restorative break away and our hosts were the best!
01/10/2021Debrah
Absolutely wonderful. The property was outstanding in a really beautiful part of the country. The house was well equipped and very comfortable and the design and look of the interior was fabulous.
23/08/2021Emma
Lovely stay in beautiful quirky barn conversion.
16/08/2021Sue
Inspirational, thoughtful decor, which gave us lots of ideas for home; everything seemed wonderfully, ethically sourced and the whole stay was excellent.
09/08/2021Penny
We were a group of five friends who spent the most perfect weekend at Hiraeth. Owned by a very warm and welcoming family, they were the perfect hosts who made our stay comfortable throughout. What we most loved was that every room, every corner was a manifestation of an artist's carefree imagination. It was simply fabulous. With a hot tub, at that! The property is located in an idyllic village too, couldn't have asked for more. We hope to visit again soon!
02/07/2021Suchi
We had an amazing time at Hiraeth, the barn itself is decorated beautifully and Martha was so friendly from sending us very detailed videos about the property to self check in (we were arriving quite late), and showing us around the outside kitchen. It has everything you need for a lovely break, the hot tub was definitely our favourite part!
28/06/2021Katherine
Wow! What a beautiful barn! The hosts met us as we arrived and explained everything we needed to know. The barn was immaculate and well presented. The pictures do not do it justice. The bed was so comfy, the kitchen was kitted out with everything you need and the hot tub is just amazing! The use of the outside kitchen and fire out make this place perfect for a getaway and it was a quick drive to Hay on Wye were there is plenty to do. I would recommend hiking up the Hay Bluff!
16/06/2021Amy
Lovely stay, hosts were excellent. Very friendly and accommodating. Loved the indoor jacuzzi
26/05/2021Louise
Great, comfortable stay with really welcoming and friendly hosts. Everything was fantastic, would book again.
24/05/2021Tommy
We had a really relaxing short break in beautiful Hiraeth. It is a stunning property, the hosts were perfect, the right balance of welcoming and then left us alone to enjoy our stay in peace whilst being available to help with anything if needed.
12/05/2021Nicola
I am never one for writing feedback but my stay has genuinely left me truly humbled. From the moment canopy and stars encouraged me to get in touch with the owners having made the booking. The owners helped make the stay genuinely everything I could've asked for. They were genuinely the most helpful and genuine hosts ever. That with the pure beauty and detail in the property I would say make this the best stay in the UK.
07/05/2021Caleb
A really beautiful barn, the decor is unique and so many lovely touches. The beds were so cosy and the kitchen well equipped. The hosts were so helpful and friendly and really made us feel welcome. Having the hottub was dreamy and being able to cook outside using the pizza oven and BBQ was really nice. We had a great really great relaxing break to unwind in the beautiful surroundings.
30/04/2021Anis
Lovely place to stay at, the owners have been very innovative with practicality and style in this property. Very, very clean and well kept property. Amazing outdoor kitchen and facilities including an indoor hot tub. Would recommend this place to stay at.
19/04/2021Lily
Hiraeth was beautiful! We got married on 12 Dec 20 and so booked Hiraeth (and another C&S location) for a short break after the wedding. Hitaeth is beautifully decorated, and we have come home with a list of DIY ideas! Beautiful countryside nearby too!
16/12/2020Amy
The place is fantastic, hosts are lovely. We feel in love with the place online, but arriving to the location doesn’t do the photos online justice! The location is great, 10 mins away from the nearest village with great local restaurants. Perfect place for a getaway and highly recommend!
04/12/2020Corine
What a wonderful place for a relaxing few nights away, we didn't want to leave! I would happily return again and again. The best sleep I've had in such a long time. lovely and welcoming atmosphere.
02/11/2020Charlotte
We had an amazing stay! This places is absolutely beautiful with so much detail. Highly recommended and would love to go back. The BBQ and pizza oven were great as well as the hot tub. Hosts were lovely and explained everything, place was immaculate and left us to it whilst we were there. Really peaceful too.
07/09/2020Rosie
Hiraeth is a unique property, quirky and comfortable. The owners came to greet on arrival and then didn't meet them again but they were close enough if we needed them. There were welcome goodies on arrival scones, jam and cream and a bottle of prosecco, together with freshly laid eggs and ground coffee. Which was a lovely treat. The kitchen well stocked with everything needed. The hot tub was amazing! The beds very comfortable and the whole place is just full of wonderful staged accessories and decorations. The outdoor area with fire pit was great. We travelled to Lydney, Hay-On-Wye and Hereford whilst here also having a good Sunday Lunch at the local Garden Centre. A lovely relaxing break away.
28/08/2020Sarah
We had a great time and our hosts were very friendly. The converted barn itself was very well appointed and a wonderful place to stay. We also found the location ideal for exploring the Black Mountains. Having the welcome hamper and the bottle of Prosecco to greet us was a lovely touch especially after a long journey.
24/08/2020John
With such a friendly welcome, we knew we were going to feel very much at home here. What a fabulous few days spent in this wonderful barn - a perfect spot for chilling and relaxing. It is designed and decorated with such character and unique features, a joy to spend time in. The indoor hottub and outdoor space just add those extra special elements. The lovely hosts could not have been more welcoming and friendly, leaving us to enjoy our break but always available if needed. We will return and are very much torn between telling everyone about it or keeping it our own little secret! Guess the secret is now out.
17/08/2020Markus
What a fabulous place! We were the first people to stay at Hiraeth and felt honoured to do so. Martha and family were an absolute pleasure to meet and made us feel so welcome. The barn is stunning, and every day we found new things to delight us - thoughtful little touches that brought the space to life. They are artists! The outdoor kitchen was really fun and they showed us how to use the pizza oven etc - I just wish we'd had more time to really get stuck in. I would thoroughly recommend this place, especially as there is also a cute little shepherds hut and bell tent in the summer. Great location, very quiet, yet near to places of interest.
31/07/2020Alex
We're super excited to be adding Reuben and Martha's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Prothero and Frida should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!

We had a really relaxing short break in beautiful Hiraeth. It is a stunning property, the hosts were perfect, the right balance of welcoming and then left us alone to enjoy our stay in peace whilst being available to help with anything if needed.

Lovely place to stay at, the owners have been very innovative with practicality and style in this property. Very, very clean and well kept property. Amazing outdoor kitchen and facilities including an indoor hot tub. Would recommend this place to stay at.

Hiraeth was beautiful! We got married on 12 Dec 20 and so booked Hiraeth (and another C&S location) for a short break after the wedding. Hitaeth is beautifully decorated, and we have come home with a list of DIY ideas! Beautiful countryside nearby too!

The place is fantastic, hosts are lovely. We feel in love with the place online, but arriving to the location doesn’t do the photos online justice! The location is great, 10 mins away from the nearest village with great local restaurants. Perfect place for a getaway and highly recommend!

We had a great time and our hosts were very friendly. The converted barn itself was very well appointed and a wonderful place to stay. We also found the location ideal for exploring the Black Mountains. Having the welcome hamper and the bottle of Prosecco to greet us was a lovely touch especially after a long journey.

We're super excited to be adding Reuben and Martha's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Prothero and Frida should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!
