Overview
At every turn in Meadow Cabin, you’ll find your needs catered to in considerable style. A day in the life of The Meadow reads like a daydream. Morning starts when you pull back the curtains and the bifold doors to let the day in, starting off with a view of the Black Mountains in the distance. If you’ve brought your kids, you’ll see them rush to open the rest of the bifolds that stretch the front of the building, and out onto the lawn to dive onto bean bags. And if you’ve brought friends, quite likely the same. Though the kitchen might just be used for decadent breakfasts, lunches for the al fresco dining table, or hearty dinners after a bountiful day finding farm shop supplies – it’s so well equipped, you could spend the day baking delights with the accoutrements in the cupboards (ingredients not included).
If you’ve arrived in search of doing absolutely nothing, you’ve found the spot to not do stuff. There are suspended chairs to flop into and ‘just rest your eyes’, plenty of space outside for games, a large bath to recline into for an afternoon treat, and a hot tub to… well. It speaks for itself. But there’s a good chance if you’ve found this space, you’re looking to make use of all that’s around you. Hereford in easy reach, Wales a short drive away, The Cat’s back, The Black Mountains, at every turn, there’s as little or as much adventure as you can handle – and most importantly on the return, a space you can relax into with ease.

Meet The Layton Family
The Pontypinna story began in 1955 for the Layton family. After selling his smaller farm, The Pentre at Painscastle, Bill Layton made the brave move to purchase Pontypinna Farm. Grandad Tom, Bill's son and one of 9 children, was 21 at the time and vividly remembered walking the sheep and cattle through Hay on Wye to reach Pontypinna. After many successful years at the farm, Grandad Tom passed on in 2015.
The farm remained in the family; Grandad Tom's daughter Jenny took on the farm and all the responsibilities that went with it. She wanted to ensure that the 180 acre farm could survive the test of rising costs, whilst also continuing to farm....and that is where the Hideaways project began!
Wildlife and the Environment
The working farm is 180 acres and above the Hideaways is private woodland owned by the Layton Family for guests to explore. All hideaways run off of a ground source heating system, which was installed by local builders.

Our guests say...
Julie
We had a great stay. The place is beautiful and those views from the cottage made our days exceptional.
23/12/2024David
Was absolutely brilliant. The place was great, everything in great condition and nice decor, facilities all worked great and places we really warm. Even though it rained a lot on the weekend we stayed there it wasn’t an issue with the decking and undercover areas. Felt very relaxed being there, will definitely be returning at some point and have recommended to others too :)

Our stay at The Meadow was nothing short of amazing. The views were stunning and the property was exquisite. I’ve recommended this place to so many people. The hosts had obviously thought of so many factors when designing the place, it was private, yet open, the hot tub was an added luxury.

We had a great stay - The Meadows was exactly as expected - very comfortable and a great place to stay for a relaxing weekend.
28/06/2024Richard
We loved staying at the meadow, the view was stunning! The location was perfect. Our hideaway really well equipped and we loved the design. The privacy was perfect and we made good use of the hot tub.

We had a fabulous time in this glorious eco lodge. The view of the rolling hills, walks and local sights made it a great week. Jess who looks after the site kept in touch prior to our visit and during. She is a star and recommended local places to visit.
07/07/2023Carolyn
The property was stunning! We loved the interiors, grounds and particularly the view. Everything felt luxurious and a real treat from the comfy beds to the generous welcome hamper. We spent two whole days of our trip just relaxing in the sun, in the hot tub and enjoying the fresh air, views and firepit. We felt thoroughly relaxed by the end of it. They owners were very friendly, attentive and welcoming. We would highly recommend and hope to be back soon!

Beautiful stay celebrating our recent wedding. Exactly what we needed, a few days of relaxation with champagne, hot tub, bbq, walks and soaking up the amazing views and sunsets of Herefordshire. Beautiful, unique lodge with bi-fold doors the length of the lodge and outdoor chilling area.
22/05/2023Helena
We had a lovely time staying here at The Meadow. The location is stunning and very quiet, with the sun beaming down all day over the property. The stars at night were stunning to look up to whilst drinking prosecco in the hot tub! Behind the property there is a lovely little woodland walk, perfect for a fresh, sunny, winters days walk. People with dogs will just have to be aware that the property isn't fenced off from the others on site. Although dogs do need to be kept on leads here, that extra bit of precaution just needs to be taken!
