Overview
In among the orchards and wildflower meadows of this lovely slice of Herefordshire is a cabin that invites you to simply sit and stare. From the sofa you can watch through the picture window as the light changes on the hills, from the chairs or the hot tub out on the covered porch you can watch for foxes, deer and birds of prey, including the resident sparrowhawk. You can cook on the hobs or in the microwave inside, or go a little wilder and try the tripod pot and kettle swinging over the campfire. The bathroom is modern and en suite, the bed king size and the cabin beautifully simple, hand-finished and ready to welcome you to the slow life.
If you fancy getting out and about, then you couldn’t be in a better spot. The cabin is right on the Hereford Way, giving you easy access to 150 miles of rambling trails. You can hike through the local woodlands and over to Brilley Dingle Nature Reserve, or just make the one-mile walk to the Rhydespence Inn for some great home-cooked food. The Boat at Whitney is also walkable (and you can kayak up to it as well), but bear in mind that while it’s a pleasant downhill to either pub on the way out, you have to climb back up to the cabin with lunch and a couple of pints in you.
As this is a working farm, you might see and hear the hay being harvested in neighbouring fields in early September, but the small amount of noise is worth it as the process draws a dramatic flock of red kites to hunt. Ben and James can send you off on even more great days out, but will happily leave you to explore or idle as you will. If you drive off on your adventures, you’ll arrive back by the barns, where you’ll find storage space for kayaks, bikes or wet gear. You might bump into your neighbours at Pax or Old Fred here too, the cabins 30m along and down the slope from Russet, although the three share no other facilities. Then you simply stroll down across the field and settle back into the comfort of your cosy, wild space.

Meet your hosts
Meet Tim, Liz, Ben and James
The Rogers family have come together from very different backgrounds to combine their love of the beautiful Welsh Marches with their desire to run a business together. Tim ran a legal department in Westminster for more years than he wants to remember, Liz was a fashion designer for several household names. Both were originally from country backgrounds, Liz growing up on a spectacular hill farm overlooking the Lake District. They retired in 2007 to Herefordshire. Ben and James went to Central Saint Martins to study art with Ben following a career in music and James in the charity sector. Both missed being in the countryside and particularly walking the Herefordshire hills and the mountains of the Welsh borders. The pandemic was the driver for them to come together again and pool their resources.
The Arbour, developed over five years by the previous owners Chis and Sarah, was the perfect opportunity to live and work together as a family. Ben and James will be running the business with support from Tim and Liz. They are looking forward to sharing their intimate knowledge of the area and especially the many and varied opportunities for walking, kayaking, fishing, foraging and exploring the fabulous pubs and restaurants.
Wildlife & the environment
The land is south facing and gently sloping, surrounded by woodland and open farmland. There are rabbits in the fields which attract birds of prey and foxes. Owls, squirrels, bats and many varieties of birds abound. In the woods bordering the site, there are Firecrests and deer which sometimes venture into the surrounding fields. There is a resident Sparrowhawk who hunts on the grounds. The long grass harbours slow worms, frogs and toads and all varieties of mice and voles which again attract birds of prey especially Red Kites and Buzzards.
As we develop the business, we are ambitious to expand the ecological potential of the site and hope to install EV panels and EV charging and do further work to encourage the wildlife. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful area and the fantastic accommodation and to providing you with an opportunity to really relax in stunning and calm surroundings.

Our guests say...
Craig
We recently stayed at the Russet for a long weekend. Upon arrival Chris promptly greeted us and introduced himself and Geoffrey the cat. We were promptly shown to our cabin and instantly knew we had made the right choice. Having had several glamping type breaks in recent years we have always been left disappointed with corners being cut in relation to fire wood, power/heating and general home comforts. However we were delighted to know that all modern conveniences were well catered for and that we would definitely be able to fully relax and enjoy our weekend. In fact we barely left the cabin, as we found it so cosy! Bathroom facilities were excellent, as was the kitchen. The hot tub was checked twice daily and we had no worries about it always being at the right temperature. Everything was well maintained, spotlessly clean and easily accessible for us. Geoffrey the cat met us at the door on a couple of occasions for some fuss and being cat lovers we were happy to oblige. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and deserving of top marks!!

We had the most amazing stay. The place is set in beautiful surroundings in the middle of nowhere which we loved. There are pubs within walking distance aswell.
25/10/2024Joanne
Had an amazing time and felt very welcomed when we arrived. The cabin had everything you could need and was immaculate throughout. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely look at returning!
02/08/2024Mark
It was an amazing and relaxing weekend. The cabin was to a very high standard and everything was so special. The welcome by Chris & Sarah was lovely and the whole weekend we felt like we were the only ones there!
14/06/2024Dan
We had a lovely stay in Russet cabin. The accommodation was comfortable, very well laid out and had everything we needed. To top it all there was an amazing view across the countryside to the hills beyond which could be enjoyed from inside looking out from the large picture window or from outside on the decking or in the hot tub. Although there were two other cabins in the same field, they had been positioned for maximum privacy and we didn't see or hear anyone else during our stay.
15/03/2024Joanne
We had the most beautiful stay at the Russet cabin. Sarah and Chris were great hosts and Chris gave us a warm welcome and helped us with our luggage. The cabin itself was perfect. Very clean, cosy and comfortable and all the essentials you would need. The hot tub and the log burner were great and made enjoying the incredible views very cosy and relaxing. Definitely stay here, you won’t regret it.
15/12/2023Ellen
We had an incredible time at Russet. The cabin was spotlessly clean and so cosy, we loved the log burner and the hot tub. The views from the cabin were beautiful and it was so peaceful and quiet, the highlight was sitting in the hot tub at night looking up at the amazing starry sky. Chris was so welcoming. We will definitely be back again.
03/11/2023Lucy
Lovely warm welcome from the owner. Fabulous location with great views. Everything provided that you would need. Loved all the hand made furniture and little touches.
22/09/2023Catherine
We had a truly wonderful stay at Russet. The cabin is so beautifully designed and the pathways so very cleverly planned so that you are never overlooked by the other cabins. The owner really welcoming and we couldn’t have had a more relaxing break.
11/09/2023Beverley
We had the most wonderful stay at Russets cottage, we were greeted by Chris who was lovely and chatty. He gave us great information of the local area and where to go for the nearest walk and pub. We absolutely loved the view and even when it rained it was stunning to see. The cabin itself was cosy and quaint and we could quite happily have stayed there for much longer had we not had to leave for work. The grounds were perfectly maintained and the apple trees amongst the cabins was a beautiful touch. The hot tub was ideal and such a great touch to see the stars at night or watch the sunrise in the morning. We loved cooking on the outside grill then enjoying the fire for warmth afterwards. Honestly we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend and will absolutely be back very soon. Thank you Sarah and Chris for sharing your perfect gem with us and allowing us to experience your world even for a very short time.
11/08/2023Natasha
A slice of peace and serenity - with views you wouldn’t believe are within the uk
07/08/2023Jack
We had the best stay, better than we could have imagined. I booked Russet Cabin as a surprise for my boyfriend to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and the Cabin was perfect - even better in life. The view from the windows of the cabin were absolutely beautiful. Everything was so well thought of from the décor to the relaxing hot tub to the firepit.
27/07/2023Nina

21/04/2023Tim
Amazing stay, we loved every minute! The place is fantastic and wonderfully stocked. We had everything we needed for a long weekend, we wish we could have stayed longer. The cabin was clean, spacious and cozy! The hot tub was wonderful, especially with the beautiful views of the black mountains. A great location for Hay-on-Wye with lovely bookstores and antique shops to wonder around. Jeff was a pleasant added bonus. Thank you so much to Sarah and Chris for their fantastic communication and kindness.
17/02/2023Kate
We had the most wonderful stay in Russet. The cabin itself was warm and cosy and it has been beautifully made. The hot tub was fantastic too - loved it in the winter and we’d like to return in the summer. Our hosts were wonderful and even before arriving responded promptly to emails. If you’re looking for a secluded stay in a beautiful cabin with great views - this is for you.

Had a fantastic mini break at russet with my girlfriend, so peaceful and relaxing. Beautiful scenery, and views. The cabin was cosy and the hot tub was a bonus. Would defo come back in the near future.
30/09/2022Nat
Easily one of the best places we’ve stayed! Everything has been thought of, the views were spectacular and you could tell the owners made the most of the views when building the cabins. Cabins were super clean and decorated to a high finish, some beautiful handcrafted wood work. The hot tub was amazing and we were lucky enough to have some clear skies, we’ve never seen so many stars.
16/09/2022Richard
A lovely break, beautiful accommodation and location. The personal touches to the property did not go un missed. The cabins are very private and we did not see anyone other than the owners cat all weekend.
12/08/2022Ayesha
Simply stunning, could not ask for anything more. It was peaceful and very private, the cabin had everything you would want for a short stay. The views from the hot tub were amazing. Came home so relaxed
20/07/2022Jon
We had a great stay, despite the heatwave. The cabin is a great size for 2 people and the facilities are all brilliant. Hay-on-Wye has plenty of food and drink options, and Brecon was nice to wander around for a few hours.
18/07/2022Jonathan
The Russet is the most relaxing and tranquil setting i have ever stayed in. The cabin was so cute and quirky. The owners were so welcoming and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived, nothing was too much trouble. The area also was so outstanding. The view from our cabin was breathtaking. We would highly recommend and will definitely return.
20/06/2022Lisa
Stay at Russet was amazing. Hosted were welcoming, the cabin was clean and finished to a very high standard and location was stunning.
29/04/2022Harry
We stayed for 2 nights in the russet cabin, and we did not want to leave. We enjoyed it so much, we were already discussing returning. It had everything we needed and more. The hot tub and fire burner were highlights.
18/04/2022James
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the accommodation was fantastic, the picture do not do it justice. The design and attention to detail is fantastic. We would definitely recommend this to anyone
25/03/2022Rob
We had a fabulous stay, the cabins are well looked after with just what you need and nothing more or less. A great example of small but perfectly formed. The owners are very welcoming too and on hand if needed but very much leave you to enjoy your stay.
25/02/2022Ashley
We had a fantastic time at the Brilley Cabins in Herefordshire- the location was beautiful and the cabin itself was even better than expected. Every little detail had been considered and it truly was a joy to relax, unwind and wake up in such a cosy, stunning place.
23/02/2022Matt
My girlfriend and I decided to treat ourselves to an outdoor weekend away in Herefordshire to celebrate our 30th birthdays. We spent three nights in Russet at The Arbour and our stay was so fantastic that we are already planning on returning in the near future. The cabin was perfect in so many ways, and as an architect myself, I can honestly say the design and build was of the highest quality. The attention to detail was exquisite and so much consideration and thought had gone into making our stay as flawless as possible. The two picture frame windows from the breakfast bar and the double bed provided breathtaking views of the Black Mountains, and the sunset views from the hot tub in the evenings ensured we were relaxed at all times. The log burner and rain shower were two of our other favourite features. Located ten minutes from Hay-on-Wye, Russet was perfectly located for hiking in the Black Mountains and visiting the local pubs. The site itself was also very peaceful and excellently maintained. A special mention for Chris and Sarah who were exceptional hosts and significant contributors in making our 30th birthday weekend so memorable.
22/10/2021Dan
It was the most wonderful weekend - perfect hosts, location, holiday.
15/10/2021Naomj
What a fabulous few days we had here! We didn’t want to leave, it was just so relaxing and peaceful. Unfortunately we weren’t blessed with much sun so we spent all of our time in the cabin and the hot tub (even if it was raining!) Sarah and Chris were such lovely people and so inviting! The homemade apple cakes (amazing btw!) and cider we had inside the cabin on arrival were lush. The fire inside the cabin was lovely when the nights got cold and the fire pit outside was fab! We enjoyed a beautiful BBQ on the one dry night of our stay. The hot tub was perfect overlooking the beautiful scenery and even though there are 2 other cabins nearby you don’t really notice because it’s all private and sectioned off. The apple trees will look amazing when they have grown and matured, will make the cabin that little bit more private and secluded. Thank you for a fabulous break it was much needed! We’ll definitely be back!
27/09/2021Kerrie
My partner and I took a few days in this beautiful lodge to relax and be on our own. It was perfect for what we wanted and completely beat our expectations! We ended up over-packing, as everything you could need was included. 10/10 for cleanliness and comfort. The decor was spot on to make it feel cosy and rustic. We appreciated how private they made the place; they had put up a screen if you sat outside and the windows were blackout. Considering there were 2 other occupied lodges in the area, we didn’t hear or see anyone else the whole time. There were so many personal touches on arrival, such as freshly made muffins and apple cider (inspired by the location we assumed) that made us feel so welcomed and valued as guests that would make it difficult to not want to stay again!
08/09/2021Robyn
It was a really wonderful few days away. The cabin was perfect. It was spacious and yet cosy. Lots of attention to detail (like the fairy lights) which made it extra special and the cabin is designed in such a way to feel very private. The hot tub was very welcome after enjoying walking in the Black Mountains. Close to Hay on Wye to enjoy sauntering around the bookshops and an ice cream.
20/08/2021Claire
We had an absolutely incredible stay here at the russet. The owners are lovely! Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to family circumstances but they were very understanding about it. The cabins are absolutely amazing and the views are incredible!
18/08/2021Cora
We had never visited the area and the property and location was perfect. Lots of woodland walks, the river wye and lovely towns to visit. Loved the inside and outside space - hot tub, outside fire pit, decking with comfy chairs and table staring at an amazing view. The inside space was very clean, comfortable, well equipped, great shower and bed. Sarah and Chris really lovely hosts too. Had a very relaxing and enjoyable week.
30/07/2021Helen
Absolutely amazing stay in the beautiful lodge that Chris and sarah have built. The cabin had everything and more. More than we could have wished for. The beautiful sights were embraced every morning and also evening whilst star gazing in the hot tub. This is definitely the place to stay for a relaxing break, and we will definitely be going back next year.
23/07/2021Niamh
An amazing cabin in a beautiful location. The cabin has been built and decorated to perfection, making full use of the amazing views in front. The hot tub and range of outdoor seating are wonderful additions

We stayed 5 nights but could have easily stayed much longer, it was so cosy and comfortable. The hot tub and the fire pit were a bonus. There is so much to do nearby, whether it's canoeing or paddleboarding on the Wye, browsing the bookshops in Hay, walking along Offa's Dyke, exploring the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, and great local produce to cook up on the fire at night. We really hope to return.

We had the most perfect stay, the accommodation was beautiful and the hot tub was perfect after a long day. We really didn't want to leave. The view was amazing, sitting out on the deck reading a book looking across the beacons is a memory I won't soon forget. The hosts were wonderful too, they have the most magical place and they're so kind. We will be back as soon as possible!!

Couldn’t have had a better stay here, everything we needed was there and Chris and Sarah were amazing and welcoming.

We had an absolutely wonderful time. The Russet is the most gorgeous place - it's clear how much thought and care the owners put into creating it. They were the most perfect, friendly hosts too!

Had the most wonderful time staying in the Russet cabin for a few days. A perfect vacation in a perfect place! We felt welcomed and looked after throughout our stay and were given the privacy to relax and unwind looking out onto the stunning view. Our cabin was characterised beautifully and the level of cleanliness was excellent. With plenty of walks and adventures to go on followed by a campfire and hot tub, we shall definitely be returning.
07/06/2021Zoe
A beautifully made cabin, had everything we needed to hand. Very relaxing, exceptionally clean and in a peaceful location. We enjoyed every moment of being in Brilley cabins. Fantastic hot tub, felt secluded and a wonderful fire pit to cook our meals on. Perfection.

A very wet weekend was unavoidable (this is Great Britain after all) but Russet had everything we needed to just relax and enjoy a well deserved break. The stunning scenery and a two person hot tub was all we really needed but we also got friendly hosts, a beautiful cabin and some delicious homemade cakes and cider on arrival. The cabin was warm and homely and very comfortable (although the handmade sofa was a little too firm for us) and the ability to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings but still be undercover was a huge bonus with the weather. The kitchen had everything we needed and the rainfall shower was just divine. I only wish that we had booked for longer!

We had such a lovely stay in Russet! The cabin was absolutely perfect for a relaxing place to unwind, with every detail thought of! We loved the hot tub, the camp fire and the beautiful views. Chris and Sarah were so kind and helpful, giving us lots of tips and even a lift to the local pub. We hope to be back soon!

We had a wonderful time and a lot of this was down to the hosts and the cabin. Beautifully designed, nothing we were missing, spectacular views, peace and quiet, lovely hosts, great location... 10/10

An absolutely wonderful stay at Russet; we totally managed to unwind and get away from the craziness of this year. The view was stunning and mesmerising and the hot tub was so relaxing . The place itself was decorated meticulously and was hotel standard. We will definitely be back.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 3 nights and it was honestly the best weekend I have ever had !! The cabin was amazing with some incredible views !! We went to a few local towns which were lovely and we also ventured off on a lovely 7mike trek across the hills with gorgeous views. The hosts were incredible attending tomorrow every need and even making the cabin a bit special for my girlfriend on arrival. Could not fault the stay in any way amazing and will be going back!!

We had the most wonderful stay in Russet. A beautifully appointed lodge, with everything we needed for our cosy Autumnal visit (log fire, blankets and a beautiful view)... did I mention the view? Facing onto a dramatic green vista we wish we'd booked for longer!

Our stay from beginning to end was flawless! The cabin was stuffed with rustic charm but didn't leave out a single modern detail at the same time. The location is amazing and had a view that has to be seen to be truly appreciated. Above all the hosts were fantastic and couldn't do enough to make sure our trip for our 3rd anniversary was everything it could be and more.

It was an amazing and relaxing weekend. The cabin was to a very high standard and everything was so special. The welcome by Chris & Sarah was lovely and the whole weekend we felt like we were the only ones there!

Lovely warm welcome from the owner. Fabulous location with great views. Everything provided that you would need. Loved all the hand made furniture and little touches.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Russet. The cabin is so beautifully designed and the pathways so very cleverly planned so that you are never overlooked by the other cabins. The owner really welcoming and we couldn’t have had a more relaxing break.

We stayed for 2 nights in the russet cabin, and we did not want to leave. We enjoyed it so much, we were already discussing returning. It had everything we needed and more. The hot tub and fire burner were highlights.

We had an absolutely incredible stay here at the russet. The owners are lovely! Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to family circumstances but they were very understanding about it. The cabins are absolutely amazing and the views are incredible!
