Overview
With the option of anything from huge hikes in the Brecon Beacons, wildlife watching from the comfort of the sofa, or a relaxing soak in the hot tub, this is the perfect place to let nature work its restorative magic.
If you fancy getting active, then bring a bike or a kayak, or just your best boots and explore the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and even the woodlands at the bottom of the hill. The Hereford Way is a few steps away, the Offa’s Dyke path not much further and there’s simply endless possibility for bright and breezy days out. Routes to the local pubs offer shorter walks, with The Rhydespence Inn and the Boat at Whitney a mile or so away, but bear in mind that what goes down the hill has to yomp back up after some fine eating and drinking. If you drive off on your days out, you’ll arrive back at the barns, where there’s storage space for wet gear, bikes and even boats if you brought them.
About 30m along the hill you’ll see Russet, Pax’s sister cabin, and down the slope is a third space, Old Fred. You’ll probably meet the neighbours up at the barns, but the three share no facilities except parking. They have been created as simple, cosy spaces where you can sit back and switch off, wrap your hands around a cup of tea and watch the sun set on the hills and the glow of the wood-burner. The cabin itself is a labour of love, with a king-size bed, an en suite, modern bathroom and gas hobs and a microwave to cook on, although more daring chefs can get the campfire going and try their hand with the pot and kettle on the tripod. If you’re staying in early September, you might hear and see hay being harvested in the neighbouring field, but the upside is that this draws a huge flock of red kites to hunt. At any time of year, the enormous work that’s gone into rewilding and restoring the countryside means some great wildlife spotting, with rabbits, deer, foxes and birds of prey all thriving around you, creating a spot full of nature's soothing power.

Meet your hosts
Meet Tim, Liz, Ben and James
The Rogers family have come together from very different backgrounds to combine their love of the beautiful Welsh Marches with their desire to run a business together. Tim ran a legal department in Westminster for more years than he wants to remember, Liz was a fashion designer for several household names. Both were originally from country backgrounds, Liz growing up on a spectacular hill farm overlooking the Lake District. They retired in 2007 to Herefordshire. Ben and James went to Central Saint Martins to study art with Ben following a career in music and James in the charity sector. Both missed being in the countryside and particularly walking the Herefordshire hills and the mountains of the Welsh borders. The pandemic was the driver for them to come together again and pool their resources.
The Arbour, developed over five years by the previous owners Chis and Sarah, was the perfect opportunity to live and work together as a family. Ben and James will be running the business with support from Tim and Liz. They are looking forward to sharing their intimate knowledge of the area and especially the many and varied opportunities for walking, kayaking, fishing, foraging and exploring the fabulous pubs and restaurants.
Wildlife & the environment
The land is south facing and gently sloping, surrounded by woodland and open farmland. There are rabbits in the fields which attract birds of prey and foxes. Owls, squirrels, bats and many varieties of birds abound. In the woods bordering the site, there are Firecrests and deer which sometimes venture into the surrounding fields. There is a resident Sparrowhawk who hunts on the grounds. The long grass harbours slow worms, frogs and toads and all varieties of mice and voles which again attract birds of prey especially Red Kites and Buzzards.
As we develop the business, we are ambitious to expand the ecological potential of the site and hope to install EV panels and EV charging and do further work to encourage the wildlife. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful area and the fantastic accommodation and to providing you with an opportunity to really relax in stunning and calm surroundings.

We had an amazing time, the cabin had everything you need and we couldn't have left more relaxed. The log burner is so warm and heats the whole cabin and the hot tub is always ready for whenever you need it. We definitely want to come back!
13/12/2024Fran
Beautiful cabin, beautiful location and very welcoming hosts. All in all fantastic.
01/11/2024Claire
Terrible weather the entire weekend but the coziness of the cabin meant we still had a good time. The provision of a log burner indoors and lots of board games were great.
20/09/2024Jess
Lovely cabin, beautiful views over the Black mountains.

The location and accommodation was amazing. The cabin was a very high standard, well looked after and exceptionally clean. When arriving Chris and Sarah attended to us very quickly and made us feel very, very welcome. They helped us with our luggage and ensured we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was such a lovely place and gave us the break we were looking for.

08/03/2024Andy
Amazing cabin, stunning view and the hosts were brilliant.
01/03/2024Mike
Short Version: You will NOT regret booking this trip its perfect! Long version: We were greeted by a friendly and approachable man, who helped carry our luggage to the cabin, He gave a short but informative demo on how to use the cabin, hot tub etc. We got in to this stunningly beautiful cabin and looked at the breakon beacons, we unpacked and started a log fire, played some games, drank some beer and got in the hot tub. enjoyed the amazing view and relaxed. Next day we went to the local town, it was a 15 min drive (If you want a taxi i recommend booking as there can be a little bit of a wait but the number is on the board next to the kitchen) The town is beautiful, has a local butcher too. Definitely recommend a visit. We loved the place and was sad to leave, it was perfect get away from work and stress, I barely checked my phone and just enjoyed every min we was there
21/02/2024Daniel
We had the most perfect stay in Pax...the location and views were gorgeous. The cabin itself is beautifully fitted/decorated with everything you need for a peaceful, relaxing stay. The hot-tub was a much appreciated added bonus & we saw plenty of shooting stars from here with a glass of wine in hand!
10/11/2023Lauren
We had a really great stay at Pax, everything was perfect! Chris the host was lovely and gave a very friendly welcome.
25/10/2023Stacey
Our stay at Pax was wonderfully relaxing, the cabin and facilities were superb. Being able to just sit outside on the deck with a cup of tea and watch the Black Mountains in the distance was a much needed get away from it all. Also, taking advantage of the hot-tub to watch the stars and night sky was lovely. The log burner was surprisingly efficient and we were always comfortable. The hosts were great
23/10/2023Sean
Wonderfully equipped cabin with all amenities to have a great stay with a baby. Picturesque views, fresh air, quiet surroundings and lovely hosts. And a hot tub to relax in!
16/10/2023Beata
Absolutely incredible stay at Pax. Peaceful, idyllic, and everything we could have hoped for and more.
28/08/2023Verity
Amazing stay, spotlessly clean, epic views, the hot tub was so so relaxing, everything has been thought of, lovely village of Hay on Wye nearby, just perfect.
14/08/2023Danielle
We had an absolutely amazing stay at Pax! The cabin is so well thought out and made for a really relaxing stay. The hot tub, views and location were perfect too. Chris went out of his way to make our stay as good as possible and we really recommend The Cider Barn for some of the best food you'll eat and a trip with Wye Valley canoes - we were complete beginners and it was such a highlight of the trip. We will definitely be recommending the cabins to all of our friends!
04/08/2023Chloe
It was wonderful. The views were stunning, the accommodation was incredible. The hosts were lovely and I cannot wait to come back! Perfect way to spend my birthday.
31/07/2023Charlotte
Our second visit to Pax, Brilley Cabins and it won’t be our last. Chris and Sarah have built a little piece of heaven and thought of all the little details that make this a very special place. And even though the weather wasn’t kind to us this time, there was still plenty to do and plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside.
14/07/2023Sharon
Pax at The Arbour was perfect. Chris was very attentive and the cabin was immaculate when we arrived. The setting could not be more relaxing - perfect for two people who were having their first child free nights in years!
09/06/2023Ruth
It was amazing, from the first moment of getting out of the car, the aound of nature enveloped us, the views were absolutely stunning. We were greeted so warmly by our hosts, and taken to our cabin. Honestly, both my friend and I were in awe, everything was absolutely stunning. We had been shown around, and received a nice handover of how ecerything works. Inside the cabin... ecerything was spotless, and beautiful and so well thought out. We really appreciated that things were labelled and and clear instructions were left (for indoor woodburner) to make our stay stress free! The cabin was warm and inviting. Total privacy, support offered and loads of information about the area and activities/places to see were left in the cabin!
05/05/2023Rasmina
The Canopy and Stars description and the photos do not do this place justice! It is absolutely beautiful. The views are stunning, the setting is serene, and the cabin itself is obviously a hand-made labour of love. The fittings are very high-end and beautifully designed. But the most special thing is the owners who couldn't do enough for us including taking us to the river with our kayak so we didn't have to get a taxi back.
28/04/2023Martha
It was super cosy, the owners were lovely and friendly and the cat visits were cute! We booked this as a belated birthday gift for my partner and it was a great little place to get away from the world and read our books and look at the gorgeous view.
07/04/2023Tarnya
Absolutely stunning, didn’t want to leave!
27/03/2023Emma
We had all the seasons in our weekend but this didn’t affect us. The cabin is beautifully made and finished, just stunning. There was nothing we would change. The care and attention to detail put into the cabin is apparent and they are built to make the view the star of the show. We had planned to go out on Sunday but we couldn’t tear ourselves away and we made it a cabin day instead. Just perfect. We will definitely return, and we never say that!
24/03/2023Cath
Stunning location. Every detail had been thought through in the accommodation. We had such a relaxing break. The whole weekend was perfect
10/02/2023Ian
The Pax cabin was such a lovely peaceful retreat, every detail had been well thought out and we couldn’t have asked for more. Beautiful views and we loved the hot tub under the stars!
31/08/2022Jasmine
We loved our short stay at Pax and would definitely return! The photos don’t do it justice, particularly the view over the mountains from the hot tub. The place has been designed beautifully, was immaculately clean and had all amenities needed. Chris was a friendly and helpful host too.
29/08/2022Sean
Our stay at Pax was complete paradise - the cabin is extremely comfortable and designed so you have wonderful views whether you’re inside or out. The highlights include the hot tub, the fire pit we used for a fantastic bbq and of course Jeffrey, the world’s friendliest cat. Thanks to Chris and Sarah for a wonderful few days!
24/08/2022Dave
We had an amazing stay at Pax over the weekend. It is a very secluded cabin, with enough room fro two peple, well equipped, quite surroundings and most importantly the hot tub.
19/08/2022Beata
Absolutely amazing! The cabin was perfect. On arrival we were shown to our cabin by Chris. A large wheelbarrow was provided to transport our belongings to the cabin. It was spotlessly clean - the windows were gleaming so much it was as if they weren’t there! The view from the cabin over the countryside was stunning. Very dark skies at night for star gazing if there’s clear skies. Cooking on the campfire was great - my hubby turned into captain caveman!! We didn’t leave the cabin as we only stayed 2 nights. We relaxed on the outside chairs made by Sarah, and there were plenty of blankets to keep you warm as it got cooler. Hot tub was perfect for a relaxing dip with a glass of Prosecco! The bed was extremely comfortable. Home made apple muffins and a bottle of cider were there on our arrival. Wi-Fi was very good - we took Alexa with us so was great to relax listening to our favourite music. A small tv was in the cabin but we didn’t use it …. When you’ve such fabulous views who needs a TV? We were visited by Dracula Jeff - the cat! He popped along at night and spent half an hour chilling with us! Can’t wait to return to this amazing place! Chris and Sarah have done a fantastic job!
15/08/2022Julie
Beautiful cabin, the cleanest place We have ever stayed, relaxing hot tub, gorgeous views and lovely hosts. Could not recommend more highly.
27/07/2022Angharad
Perfect long weekend away in a beautiful location. The Cabin was fantastic, beautifully finished and with everything you would need.
10/06/2022Zoe
The whole place was just exquisite. The site was stunning, I particularly liked the mowed meadow walkway to the cabins , Chris the owner was extremely friendly with good local knowledge. The cabin itself was immaculate, with well thought amenities . The best thing about this cabin is undoubtedly the views. We loved how the cabins were built with these in mind , whilst being respectively private to other cabins on site. This is a must stay from your catalogue and we shall definitely be returning. Thank you .
22/04/2022Tiffany
Our stay at the pax was fabulous from start to finish. The cabin was so beautiful and everything was thought of and the little details made it. The view from the windows were breathtaking. We fully switched off and relaxed and truly didn’t want to leave. We will definitely return one day!
08/04/2022Lauren
Absolutely wonderful. Perfect location to get away from it all, the cabins were so cute and hosts were fab. Location was great for walking and exploring
09/03/2022Abbey
Pax is a beautiful, unique cabin and you can tell how much love and attention has gone into it's build. I particularly loved the style of the interiors which were such high quality but with lots of quirky touches such as the branches for pegs. Pax is very well equipped so you can totally relax into your holiday and the hot tub was an added bonus. The selling star of the show definitely has to be the views across the Black Mountains. I woke up to the mist rising above the hills from my window, it was magical. Thank you Sarah & Chris. x
08/02/2022Hattie
Fabulous right from the start. Quality cabin in every aspect. Towels thick and fluffy. Bed and bedding all very comfortable and luxurious. There wasn’t nothing to dislike. It was pure perfection in an idyllic setting. It had everything needed in the cabin to go with the stay. Towels for the hot tub. Logs and kindling for the fire and fire pit. A resident cat called Jeff. Very private setting even with 2 other cabins set in same field, you would not bump into any other couples if they were there. A lush rain shower and soft close toilet lid. Everything was thought of. Tv could’ve been a bit bigger. Looking at where it was positioned a larger one would’ve fitted. Lovely quirky branches for hanging towels on set about the cabin. Beautiful smell of wood. Bumped in to Chris the host. A lovely man with info about the area. Lovely little chat. Beautiful apple muffins made by Sarah the host and a bottle of local cider. Personal touches for a grand little get away.
24/01/2022SHARRON
PAX was a dream stay and made all the better by the care and attention that Chris and Sarah have dedicated to making PAX a great place to stay, the hot tub and views were highlights as well as the generously sized bed and bathroom and kitchen, definitely coming back!

Our stay was absolutely perfect, it was just what we needed to unwind and relax after a stressful few weeks. We just chilled all weekend by the log burner, and in the cosy hot tub! I would definitely visit pax again! I just wish we had longer than 2 nights as it did it seem long enough.

The cabin was super cosy and comfy. The views were lovely from the cabin, and the hosts were really lovely too!

Our stay at pax was nothing but perfect! Booked back in March as a late summer get away we lived the look of its surroundings and it didn’t disappoint. The hut itself was equipped with everything we needed, we had taken food and drink and if we hadn’t needed more booze we wouldn’t have had to go anywhere, everything was provided in its compact kitchen. Even wood for the log burner and fire pit! A quick trip to a nearby shop and we were restocked with wine to sit in front of the huge window, fire burning, watching kites and buzzards before a sunset dip in the hot tub. Chris the host checks this twice a day. We came away from our 2 nights there feeling completely relaxed and refreshed and we can’t wait to book our next visit , with more wine next time. A perfect retreat from the world, thoroughly recommend it!

Pax was the perfect relaxing getaway! The big windows made use of the amazing view and the details in the cabin were amazing. There was plenty of places to visit and things to do around or you could stay cosy in the cabin and relax in the fab hot tub. The hosts were amazing and welcoming and I would highly recommend a stay at Pax.

We booked for two nights and three days and we could have stay longer. Chris and Sarah were wonderful hosts and we loved the cabin that had been built by them. The design and layout of the cabin was superb. We loved the location and the quietness of the area. We managed to look at the stars one night which was lovely. We would definitely recommend and return to their cabin. It was lovely to get a break away from the hectic city we live in.

Booked for our minimoon, sarah and chris couldn’t have been more helpful. Beautiful decorations on arrival with champagne chilling for out celebrations! The cabin was perfect and relaxing, stunning views of the hills. Will 100% be returning and recommend :)

Completely fell in love with Pax cabin, it was absolutely beautiful and really well thought out with everything you needed for a weekend. Chris and Sarah the hosts were lovely and very helpful. We had a fantastic weekend away, walking, canoeing, and relaxing in the hot tub. It was such a great location and the views over the Black Mountains are amazing.

A gorgeous cabin, beautiful views, peace and quiet! Somewhere you can truly relax.

Lovely long weekend away. It was out second visit and we were so happy to be back, the cabin has all the comforts you need whilst being in a rural and isolated area.
28/05/2021Bridget
Everything was thoroughly thought out by the hosts from start to finish. They had thought of everything that you may need from the picnic basket to little fairy lights outside the cabin. The cabins are well built, very tidy and just the right size. Each cabin is private from the other two by their positioning. The view is also incredible! We loved our stay and will definitely be back.

We were looking for a little holiday where we could switch off and relax after a difficult and weird year, pax was EXACTLY what we needed. The location was brilliant, we enjoy walking and having a cabin like pax to come back to was perfect (especially the hot tub!) The cabin had a rustic feel but had all the modern amenities to make you feel comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised to have a little visit from the resident cat, who was just the cutest and sweetest. We honestly can’t wait to come back to pax!

Chris and Sarah were so welcoming when i pulled up and it felt like a warm and well loved space. I loved the attention to detail in Pax, the mix of carved wood, beautiful copper pipes and natural fabrics (virtually no plastic). It was spotlessly clean and well organised with just the right amount of cooking equipment and labeled recycling. The hot tub was also super clean and very easy to use. It felt like a proper relaxing break with gorgeous walks straight from the site. I loved being able to see baby rabbits and red kites from both of the main windows. I loved having a fire pit to make coffee over too.
05/05/2021Claire
We have such a fantastic stay at Pax. Chris and Sarah are exceptional hosts and the cabins they have built are truly wonderful. The view from the cabin was amazing and the ability to rejuvenate in the hot tub post walking in the hills was a real treat. We loved it so much we’ve already booked to go back.

We had a wonderful stay in Pax. It was out first getaway since August 2020 due to Covid and it couldn’t have been better. We celebrated a birthday and got engaged over the 2 nights so very eventful. The hosts were so friendly and we couldnt believe how well put together everything was. The views from the room and local area are stunning and the log fire was very cosy. We had everything we needed to cook and relax. Would definitely stay again.
28/04/2021Clare
Simply perfect. The cabins were beautiful right down to the finer details. The view took our breath away, Chris and Sarah were the most wonderful hosts and so helpful and the cabins themselves were perfection. Three days wasn't enough as there is so much to do in the areas, especially when the weather is good like it was during our stay; canoeing, walking, biking, beautiful shops, local cafes and pubs as well as local nature reserves. We will definitely be back.
23/04/2021Emma
Our stay at Pax was absolutely beautiful! The cabin has been finished to a very high standard and had everything in it that we needed, including lots of cosy blankets, a lovely bed and one of the best cabin views that we've had. And not forgetting the hot tub which was perfect after a day filled with walking! Sarah and Chris were wonderful, friendly hosts who shared their local knowledge and tasty apple-based treats with us. Pax was the breath of fresh air that we needed within a busy few months!

We had the most lovely stay at the Pax cabin. The view - the view - the view - I promise you will find it hard to get out of bed or off the sofa. The cabin cannot be faulted with a huge amount of attention to detail. It is great as it has all the rustic character whilst still having all the modern finishings that make your stay comfortable. The cabin is also very private in the way it has been designed and you honestly felt like no one else was around. Comfy beds, great shower, beautiful views, good sized kitchen! Sarah and Chris were always available for anything we needed and they honestly made us feel so welcome! We went on some beautiful rides (road bikes) and there were plenty of public footpaths in the area as well. Lovely to have the Welsh countryside so close as well! It is worth mentioning that there is a country lane behind the cabin and you can hear cars on it but honestly wasn't a bother to us :)

An ideal retreat for two - campfire cooking, star gazing and waking up to the most amazing view with your morning cuppa!

I had the most beautiful stay here with my partner Daisy for my birthday last weekend. We were so excited to have a quiet getaway in the countryside and the motive was to have complete privacy. This was definitely the case with this property! I would highly recommend staying here as the beautiful cabins are very clean very easy to navigate and the care and attention given by the owners is Second To None. We had quite possibly one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives as we sat in the hot tub one evening and it began to snow heavily. We were sat there drinking champagne and listening to music without a car in the world with a big smile on our faces!

We had an amazing time, the cabin had everything you need and we couldn't have left more relaxed. The log burner is so warm and heats the whole cabin and the hot tub is always ready for whenever you need it. We definitely want to come back!

Beautiful cabin, beautiful location and very welcoming hosts. All in all fantastic.

Terrible weather the entire weekend but the coziness of the cabin meant we still had a good time. The provision of a log burner indoors and lots of board games were great.

Wonderfully equipped cabin with all amenities to have a great stay with a baby. Picturesque views, fresh air, quiet surroundings and lovely hosts. And a hot tub to relax in!

Amazing stay, spotlessly clean, epic views, the hot tub was so so relaxing, everything has been thought of, lovely village of Hay on Wye nearby, just perfect.

Absolutely stunning, didn’t want to leave!

Thank you .

Thank you Sarah & Chris. x
