Overview
Everything at Sommet de Memanat combines nature, style and ingenuity. Order breakfast and winch your hamper up to the deck, then retreat to the kitchen to unpack it on the hand-carved oak table, or venture out through the tall pines and sequoias to local villages for fresh croissants and sublime supplies. Laze in the soft leather chairs or on the king-sized bed under the chandelier as the kids take over the turret bedroom. Large French doors lead out to the deck, where you can drink in the views of the Thaurion valley from the bubbling hot tub, sunk down to floor level so you can just slide on in.
Exploring the estate leads you to secret gardens with play parks for the kids and through the miles of peaceful, rambling woodland. Enjoy being off the beaten track; borrow bikes or range out to the medieval town of Bourganeuf, hang out with the resident horses, donkeys and goats, or just head up to relax by the pool. On most of the trails in this peaceful part of central France, you’ve got more chance of running into a deer than another person.

Meet Natalie & Andrew
Château de Memanat is a dream come true for Natalie and Andrew, having left England to create a new home in France, surrounded by idyllic countryside, an abundance of wildlife and fresh air. Happening on La Creuse, which fulfilled all their criteria; woodland, water, fields and the manor as well as being a great place to raise their family, they quickly made the leap and haven't looked back. Natalie's background in interiors and Andy's skills in joinery made the perfect recipe to fulfil their ambitious plans for life abroad and to share this with guests.
Wildlife & Environment
Château de Memanat is set within 50 acres of ancient woodland, parkland and fields bounded by the Thaurion river where you can catch crayfish in the summertime and wild swim. Lots of wildlife to see including deer, boar, badgers, birds of prey, owls and bees. The owner's friend put bee boxes in the trees to help with bee conservation along with wildflower meadows to encourage insects and wildlife.
La Creuse is in the centre of France and has some of the cleanest air in Europe, with miles of unspoilt countryside where you can walk, cycle and go wild swimming with more chance of spotting a deer than encountering another person!

The treehouse was the perfect spot for relaxing. The setting is idyllic and hospitality second to none. Natalie and Andy have thought of every little detail and it was wonderful.

We had a fantastic stay. It’so peaceful and yet plenty to do watch the donkey, horses and goat in the fields, walk by the river, swim in the pool, do the fresh market in ancient villages nearby and the highlight chill in the jacuzzi up high in the tree house :)
04/09/2019Nilm
Myself and family enjoyed and incredible stay at Sommet de Memanat. Everything was spot on from arrival to departure and the hosts could not be more attentive/welcoming. We enjoyed the treehouse, the hottub, the pool, as well as walks around the grounds and down to the river, where we caught and ate fresh crayfish! Would heartily recommend.

I’m not one for hyperbole, but it is honestly hard to know where to begin with Memanat. It was sublime, it was calm, we had wifi and Netflix if we wanted it, but the gorgeous big screen of the sky and the forest around us if not. We were perfectly uninterrupted, yet close enough to people and amenities to buy excellent fresh bread and pastries. The sunsets are amazing... there’s a hot tub, and an icy cold river, and a heart-warming menagerie of animals that greet you when you arrive or leave. It was deep rest for our bodies minds and souls, it was peaceful, immaculate and comfortable, it was idyllic. Don’t go... want to be able to book again

Magical place. Wonderful hosts. Beautiful treehouse. They've thought of everything. It was better than most 5* hotels I've stayed in. And that view...!
06/07/2019Kathryn
we had an amazing time in this magical place. The region is a delight with so much to do . it provides the children with an opportunity to explore the countryside and spend time doing things that children should do - exploring, fishing, making dens and looking for wildlife. The tree house is wonderful and extremely comfortable. Andy and Natalie are the perfect hosts and were an absolute pleasure to meet. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We have stayed in all kinds of holiday accommodations and this one tops this list - it was such a magical treehouse with so much attention to detail from the owners. We loved every aspect of it and will definitely be returning in the future. A big thank you to Natalie and Andy for being such welcoming hosts - they were always there if needed and yet we felt completely secluded and on our own adventure.

Lovely, fairytale accommodation and beautiful peaceful setting with extremely accommodating hosts.

We had a fabulous stay at this treehouse, it was stunning and the owners were very attentive without being intrusive. They’ve thought of everything too. However it is remote, therefore arrive with food and provisions for your stay.

27/05/2018Aurelia
Hidden away in the treetops this whimsical wooden castle is pure unadulterated luxury. We loved that breakfast is delivered in a basket via a pulley – that’s if you can be bothered to climb out of the hot tub to haul it up!
