Overview
The treehouses are child-friendly, see essentials for more details.
Deep in the heart of the Welsh Mountains, in a wooded secret valley, there are six chic and secluded treehouses at the Living Room, designed and built by their imaginative owners. After a short hike up through the woods (bring boots, and pack light!) you'll spy a dramatic spiral staircase, at the top of which is the main living space: a futuristic curved pod, with a double and bunk beds sleeping four altogether. Completely off-grid and built on low-impact floating joints that keep the trees from harm, it’s the sort of place you can just lose yourself in - simple and beautiful. Great fun for kids but blissful for two, each treehouse has a living/dining space with kitchen and an outdoor terrace as well. The wood-burner sits right in the middle, spreading warmth not only to the space, but also to the water. The piping hot spring water shower is down below the treehouse and the clever Swedish separating compost loo is on a platform across a walkway from the deck.
Great for outdoorsy folk, the area around the Living Room is criss-crossed with great walking trails crossing gorgeous mixed woodland, streams and fantastic mountain walks - and there’s a lovely pub 20 minutes' walk away if you don’t feel like cooking. This is a simply amazing place to come and unwind whether you hike through the hills or just sit back on the deck and listen to the wind in the treetops.

Meet your hosts

The treehouse project
Living Room treehouses are built on the scenic Bryn Meurig Farm - a 200 acres organic sheep farm, deep in the heart of the Welsh hills.
Peter, Mark, Carly and Julia design, build and look after the treehouses - and their backgrounds in architecture, product design, customer service and interior design have led to the creation of these breathtaking homes in the trees.
The design
The treehouses are built on floating joints, allowing them to remain attached to the tree but move very little, even in high wind. The timber is mainly larch, with a little red cedar, and all of it is locally sourced. The inside is designed with strong oval ribs and a lightweight timber cladding, keeping it light and aiding the stability of the overall structure. In time, the matting on the roof will grow with moss and the treehouse will blend in even more with its surroundings. The treehouses are all completely off grid, giving you a chance to experience nature from a height and in eco-style.

Booked for my wife’s 30th birthday. She wanted to stay in a treehouse and somewhere we hadn’t been before - this was the perfect place! We visited the Osprey project and it was incredible to get such great views of the incredible birds. We also went on the mountain/sea driving route recommended for less sunny days - there were some beautiful views along the route.

We had a wonderful stay at Lofty - we were bought a voucher for Canopy and Stars as a wedding present and it was a lovely present as it was so nice to get away together. We spent two nights in the treehouse, going on some lovely walks, sitting by the fire, and enjoying the absolutely beautiful scenery. It is so nice to get away from technology and just spend time together somewhere beautiful and peaceful. Everything that we needed was there, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They even gave us a beautiful print of our treehouse as a gift when we left. We'd love to go back and would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape for a bit somewhere quiet and peaceful.

One of the most amazing holidays we've had. The hot tub, the swing and hammocks were lovely surprises. The tree house was super cozy and quaint. Idyllic location. We loved the entire experience.

Everything about this stay was absolutely perfect. As a single, working parent, it's easy to feel like quality time with my boys (9 and 10) is hard to come by. This weekend gave us the chance to disconnect from electricity and our day to day demands and allowed us to reconnect with each other and with nature. My boys loved the outdoor shower. First time in years I haven’t had to nag them to get clean. They refused to come out until the water ran cold! We took our books and blankets up to the lookout, read until it got dark and then lay back and star gazed. This truly quiet, quality time with my boys who switched off from gaming and switched on their imaginations was priceless. Instead of fighting, they co-operated by chopping and hauling firewood, using the pulley system to haul our bags and supplies up and down from the tree-house and helped make dinner. They went exploring without me and came back full of mirth and brotherly secrets. And I got a chance to gaze off into distance and appreciate what I had.

Our stay was amazing start to finish. From emails about what to bring and expect, to being shown our treehouse and left completely alone (until we received a present from home that was nicely delivered). We could not fault anything about our stay and the extra nice touch of having a hot tub was amazing! The peace, quiet and relaxation was much needed after weeks of stress leading up to our wedding so it was a perfect escape.

We absolutely loved it. Fabulous location, great facilities, & wonderful hosts. The print was a kind & thoughtful gift to take hone.

Our trip was PERFECT!!! The treehouse, the location, the hosts - AMAZING from start to finish. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Truly unique and amazing experience! An unlifting, relaxing and magical retreat! Time away from everything in this wonderful hidden place, relaxing by the fire with only bird song for background music... what more needs to be said! We’ll be going back for sure.

Beautiful location, the treehouse was gorgeous and all that we could have hoped for. Very private and peaceful. We would absolutely recommend to others.

Fantastic few days, really lucky with the weather, snow and sunshine! Comfortable, basic as expected, cosy and magical.

19/03/2017Karen
Superb from start to finish, the accommodation delightful, the experience magical and the hospitality must be experienced, our children had to be dragged away, we all left reluctantly, we shall return soon.

We had the most amazing time. The treehouse was warm and comfortable even in November. The views are spectacular and the hosts are very welcoming and interesting people. We will definitely be back.

Lofty was amazing! Despite wet weather we had a thoroughly good time! We loved the little adventure walk to get to him, the spiral staircase, the wooden 'thrones' on the balcony, the amazing view even the composting outhouse toilet! Whilst the weather outside was wild we were super toasty with the easy to run log burning fire and adored living by candlelight away from technology. Lofty had an outside hot tub (heated by a separate log burner) that we fired up and enjoyed during a break in the rain... imagine sitting in a forest when it's pitch black all around you enjoying the warmth listening to the stream, the animals and gazing at the stars! There's fabulous walks on the doorstep, we did both routes in one day and at the top of the peak (with 360 views!) we we blessed by RAF planes dashing through the valleys around us-absolutely spectacular! Would go back tomorrow!!
06/11/2016Chloe
Fantastic stay. Back to nature in style! We really enjoyed the whole experience from chopping wood to the lovely outdoor shower. Although we went as a family of four the treehouse isn't just for children but for all ages, just amazing. We would definately go back, more than we expected. Also the owner left a beautiful sketch of the treehouse for us which we thought was a lovely personal touch.

It was the most magical experience ever. The fun started when we arrived and had to start the treasure hunt to find our treehouse. After crossing the bridge over the stream of running water all we could see was this magical fairy tale mossy woods with sheep around. This is an image I will never forget! The treehouse itself was another magical moment. We had so much fun we actually forgot to look at our phones!! I have never felt this relaxed in years. We chopped some wood, cooked, watched the fire, had a shower together, the whole experience was so amazing and unforgettable that I am still pinching myself and asking if this actually happened. I recommend this place to everyone who wants to have a magical unforgettable moment.
