Overview
The mismatched, quirky furniture give Old Larch Yurt a relaxed, colourful and Bohemian feel. There’s a wood burner and sheepskin rugs to ensure you're cosy whatever the weather.
Out on the raised yurt deck is a private outdoor kitchen, sheltered under a large canopy, so you can sit outside at the table in case it rains – and enjoy cooking on the Ooni Pizza oven, whatever the weather. There’s also a firepit, alongside a hammock and wonky swing, all of which are for your private use.
There are fantastic walks further into the woodland. Kids will love the treasure hunt and discovering little mementos to take away with them, finding fossils. Or they can add a 'wish' to the wishing tree, have a go on the crazy swing or meet the emus!
Within Bodynfoel Hall's 600 acres of sprawling grounds there are even a couple of ponds really close by where you can borrow the boat and go for a relaxing punt. In fact, the only thing shared with other guests is the little boat by the lake, which you're welcome to use anytime.

Meet your hosts
Meet Richard and Flavia
Richard and Flavia met in London where he was a graphic designer and she was a yoga therapist. They moved to Bodynfoel Hall, Flavia's ancestral home in 2012 after Flavia’s father died in 2010. Richard now manages the 600 acre estate and Flavia manages the business and also a keen bee-keeper. They have two daughters who help out with the business from time to time.
The original Old Larch yurt has been Flavia's since the late 90’s, but a bit like "Trigger's broom" it has had a couple of new canvasses over the years. Flavia has always thought of herself as a pioneer in this form of dwelling, since she took the yurt to Val d’Isére for two seasons in the early 90's where it provided warm and cosy accommodation for two, in the heavy snow.
Since they started Flavia and Richard have added two more spaces with Van Goff and Jericho Yurt, all reflecting their love of interesting different styles and quirky interiors, but with their own unique atmosphere, and private environment. They love being able to share this wonderful environment with their guests who you can see by their wonderful comments, have all had very happy time at Bodynfoel, or 'Bodhall' as it is sometimes known.
Wildlife & Environment
Richard and Flavia are true nature lovers and have always had a 'green' approach to land stewardship, and many acres of woodland have been planted over the years.
A stretch of the river Cain runs through the estate, where otter have recently returned, as well as bird life including kingfishers, curlews and tawny owls, the latter which you'll probably hear at night. There are badgers and foxes in the woods, and more recently a pine marten has been spotted nearby.

Superb from start to finish - from the directions and greeting from Richard, to the wonderful yurt set in the most beautiful surroundings. So many considerate little touches made the yurt feel really special and unique - from the decor and freshly picked flowers, to the thoughtful selection of books and games. The woodburner was fabulous and made the place cosy in no time, as was the firepit and barbecue. We made pizzas with the Ooni one evening, went for a fabulous walk and made wishes at the 600yr old oak Wishing Tree along the way. The hammock was a joy to gently swing and relax in and felt really special to be able to unwind in such beautiful surroundings. We absolutely loved our stay at the Old Larch Hut and are looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed for my birthday in Old Larch Yurt, and had an amazing stay. We were there for 2 nights and could have had 1 more night, but are grateful for the time we had. We had two kids with us - 7 years and 2 years and they both enjoyed their holiday - going on the treasure hunt and cooking outside!

We booked for two nights at The Old Larch Yurt and had the best time. We really needed a couple of days away to reset and not worry about work or be tempted by technology. Richard and Flavia were the perfect hosts warm and welcoming. It did rain as expected but the Yurt was warm and dry. We had a beautiful walk up the hills when it dried off and a delicious pizza in the local pub on our last meal. Our son (11) said it was his best holiday. It gave us the space and time to reconnect as a family and recharge for our return to work and school. Tuppence the tame duck was a particular highlight for our son who also enjoyed his time exploring the woodlands and ponds around the Yurt. He spent many happy hours whittling sticks with the freedom to wander off into an imaginary world of wonder and nature. We loved finding the stone quarry and discovering the incredible fossils hidden in the rocks. Such treasures. Everything was catered for and we would definitely come again.
01/04/2024Ruth
We had a lovely stay at the peaceful old larch days for 3 nights. We wished we could have stayed longer! It was so peaceful and a chance to get away from technology and back to nature.
08/09/2023Siobhan
We were met by Richard who was really friendly and showed us the yurt and all the facilities. We had a lovely barbecue and explored around the yurt. The setup was really good with lots of thoughtful extras. The beds were lovely and the kids slept well. The next morning we explored some more and had a wander to the wishing tree. In the afternoon we took the boat out on the lake and the kids loved the treasure hunt. We had another barbecue (why wouldn’t you?!) and sat by the fire pit. We had such a lovely stay.

Myself, my partner and our 5 month old baby have spent 7 days at Bodynfoel Hall, we stayed in the Old Larch Yurt and it was the most memorable holiday we have ever had. Not only was the yurt warm, cosy and beautiful but it reminded us that we need so little to be happy. We survived off solar lights, a log burner and a whistle kettle, we realised how much of the hustle and bustle of our daily lives at home had taken away the most important thing…quality family time! Being able to forget the outside world and being surrounded by nature has made us feel ourselves again. Richard and Flavia are fantastic hosts who encourage you to roam and enjoy the scenery they have to offer, we feel lucky to have found the Old Larch Yurt because we have come home feeling more connected to each other, we laughed, tried new experiences and feel stress free and this is all down to the fantastic opportunity of staying at the yurt. Thank you Richard and Flavia for allowing people to share your grounds, your kindness and your love of offering people the chance to relax and unwind. If your thinking of booking I really urge you to do so, see for yourself how amazing Bodynfoel Hall is. Tash, Dan & baby Sully

A wonderfully situated, comfortable and beautifully furnished yurt. The secluded location in the trees gives a peaceful and delightful aspect. The hammock, swing bench, BBQ area are all brilliant additions. The tree swing, wishing tree and kid's treasure hunt were all lovely touches to enhance exploration of the beautiful estate. We absolutely loved the freedom for the children to climb trees and play in the meadows; and rowing around the pond. Richard and Flavia were so friendly and helpful and we'll definitely be back!

Stayed for 2 nights - wish it was longer. Family of 4 and it was exactly what we wanted. Super peaceful, really well equipped and the hosts were so nice.
29/05/2023Ollie
This place is amazing, it's a little slice of heaven. The yurt is so secluded tucked in the woods and you have free reign to wander around the estate. The yurt is lovely and well kitted out, but it's the little things like the tree swing, the fire pit and the boat you can row on the lake that make it really dreamy. We also loved the outdoor covered kitchen - such a great way to make the most of the outdoors, stay dry and maximise the space in the yurt. Richard and Flavia were great hosts, they told us just what we needed to know and then melted away into the background while we felt like we owned the place. They also left us a little Happy Anniversary banner above our bed and some marshmallows to toast - both lovely touches.

The Old Larch Yurt was AMAZING! A total escape from our normal life. Such beautiful surroundings, so peaceful and a different pace for the week. The Yurt was beautiful inside and out, the hammock, the bench tree swing and the fire pit area made our adventure even more perfect. Richard and Flavia’s attention to detail and ensuring our experience was the best we could have hoped for was second to none, Thankyou!

We just had a couple of nights here tagged on to a nearby family visit. The yurt was beautiful and very cosy. We had everything we needed and the area is lovely. Flavia was very welcoming.

A magical place in a beautiful location. Perfect for a getaway. Our hosts very friendly and accomodating. Highly recommended. If we could of moved in we would of
15/07/2022Jared
Our stay at Old Larch Yurt was like nothing we've ever experienced before. We completely switched off from usual everyday life. The yurt was beautifully decorated, the surrounding countryside and woodlands were stunning and the dawn chorus was simply the best sound in the world. We really had a connection with the place and it's all we've thought about ever since we returned home. Can't wait to return. Richard and Flavia are perfect hosts too.
11/07/2022Adrian
Our stay in the Old Larch yurt was exactly what we needed and a welcome break from the noise and crowds of London. To hear only sheep and birds was pretty special, as was being in such a remote location. Our daughter who has recently starting walking, absolutely loved exploring the grounds and meeting the sheep, ducks and frogs. What toddler wouldn’t love this closeness to nature and being with parents who aren’t distracted by tech!
06/07/2022Madeline
It could not have been better! The most magical location, everything we needed and more was provided, everyone we met was so friendly (including the duck!!)
01/06/2022Emma
We had a lovely relaxing stay - beautiful space, away from everything. Cannot fault it and would love to go back again!
23/05/2022Maxine
We had a fantastic time! The yurt is very well set up and has everything you need. It is a very relaxed and peaceful place. The hosts are lovely and welcoming. We explored some walks around the yurt and had a go on the boat. It is beautiful. I will recommend it and hopefully come back.
06/04/2022Amelie
We had an amazing time staying at Old Larch Yurt. We arrived to a warm welcome and a roaring fire. The yurt was brilliant, spacious inside, log burner was brilliant for an October stay. Waking up in a forest with no one else around was great. The treasure hunt was great, our 4 year old loved it, boating on the lake was fun too. We had everything we needed and three days went really quickly. A fantastic experience and one we would happily repeat!
22/10/2021Matt
This was a surprise birthday get away for me & my love. Wow he can take me back so we can get lost some more, or let us rent this peaceful little world off you- we would happily live here. We stayed for two nights and had the most magical time. The yurt had history of being on a mountain previous and now has its perfect little spot at the beautiful hall grounds. You get lost in trees and woodlands- then sit back and relax in your own little private patch and enjoy cooking on the fire pit in your own little jungle like garden, That’s what it felt like- there’s a beautiful plant, that we thought looked like a giant rubber plant but it’s more beautiful than that and Richard the host told us how it was planted years ago by a relation of his- how lovely! : ) When you have been able to watch the sun set from the stunning wood made balcony attached to your yurt, there’s a perfect patch to lay on a blanket and look up at the stars. It’s like the trees have naturally formed a circle for you to gaze up at the stars. You feel so cosy and zen in The old larch yurt- with the little log burner inside which warmed the yurt up beautifully. Thank you Richard for your great hospitality. Tom & Jas
06/10/2021Thomas
We had the best time here! 2 nights of relaxing and beautiful scenery. There is so much to do on site and the yurt was stunning. Richard and Flavia made us feel so welcome, gave us our privacy but we knew where they were if we needed them. We had everything we needed and can only say good things about it.
18/08/2021Megan
We booked a couple of nights in the Old Larch Yurt. The Yurt, facilities and surrounding area was absolutely amazing. Our initial intention was to go for a long walk at some point but as there was so much to explore where we were/fun things to do, we made the most of our time relaxing in this beautiful retreat.
19/07/2021Sam
We had a lovely four day stay at Old Larch Yurt. The yurt was amazing and even better than we had expected: this place really has the wow factor. Richard and Flavia were most excellent hosts and were very friendly and helpful. The yurt is well equipped with an outside kitchen area and a log burner which made it very cosy at night. There is a shower and loo outside and the shower was very powerful; just like having a shower at home! Old Larch Yurt is set in a wooded area which was filled with beautiful birdsong every morning. As the yurt is elevated on a platform you really feel like you are at one with nature. We loved our stay here and came back feeling very refreshed.
28/06/2021Imtiaz
Had the most wonderful time. The yurt and location are truly magical. It was so peaceful to sit amongst the trees, birds and wildlife - it felt like a treehouse! We saw lots of different birds and heard owls hooting at night. The yurt itself was clean, cosy and the bed was really comfortable. The kitchen was also well stocked with everything you needed - simple but perfect. Lots of wonderful, equally magical walks directly from the yurt. Flavia and Richard have done a fantastic job making the whole experience friendly, pleasant and easy. I loved the feel of the place and how embedded in nature it was. Will definitely return!!
18/06/2021Natasha
I can't get over how magical our stay was. Richard and Flavia have built an amazing home away from home. Old Larch Yurt is perfect for a stripped back to basics vacation away from the city. The whole area is covered in woodlands to get lost in with beautiful views and wildlife. I didn't want to leave! The yurt itself is beautiful inside and out and there are villages nearby if you need anything (we even managed to get out for a Sunday pub lunch to watch the euros!) We thought we would struggle finding places that are vegan friendly as the villages are small but there are 2 vegan restaurants nearby and all omni places had really good began and veggie options! Everyone we ran into or spoke to was so lovely and friendly. It really is the perfect getaway. Thank you so much Richard and Flavia for sharing such a magical place with us, we will be back! Ps shout out to Tuppence the duck that is super friendly and loves to run around your feet to welcome you!
11/06/2021Rae
We had a magical weekend in the Old Larch Yurt, in nature, cozy by the fire or walking around the estate. The yurt, which is very cute and cozy, and the location are absolutely amazing! The yurt is in a lovely woods and I can say I never heard so many birds singing in one place like this. The suroundings are very pretty, you don't need to walk far for amazing views or to go to the village for a pint, if you fancy. Richard and Flavia were very welcoming and nice and Tuppence the duck is a character - look him up!
07/05/2021Florina
Richard and Flavia were absolutely lovely hosts and have thought of everything. The yurt itself is fabulously decorated and in acres of woodland and greenery. It was the perfect escape!
05/05/2021Viki
Truly magical. The setting is out of a fairy tale.

We had a lovely 5 days in a private wooded area of the estate. On arrival Richard greeted us and showed us around. Both himself and Flavia were around if we needed them for anything. We spent every evening around the fire pit, and the days out exploring the area. It was a shame it had to end.

Amazing place, owners were lovely. Very secluded and out the way which is perfect for a couples retreat, recommend this place highly
09/10/2020Marie
An amazing few days away to unplug from the world and relax and reset. This location is perfect for it.
28/09/2020Steve
This was our first experience in a yurt and the Old Larch has certainly set an incredibly high standard for what we will definitely be looking for in the future. The décor, the location and the amenities were perfect.
31/08/2020Laura
Never stayed in a yurt before, so particularly keen to share this experience with our grandaughter.A dramatic arrival and first night in the full ferocity of storm Francis only enhanced the warmth and comfort of the Yurt. The following day was a beautiful August day, exploring the grounds, treasure hunt and rowing boat.Evenings cooking by the campfire were magical.Flavia and Richard where attentive and accessible when needed, perfect hosts. The experience will live long in our collective memories.Ditch the technology and live a little!

Wow this stay was just magical! My 6 year old said the inside was like being in a princess ball! Everything was amazing, the yurt, the location and the hosts! Richard and flavia had covered everything you'd need and were so welcoming and helpful. We would love to return here in the future and stay longer, 2 nights was not long enough!
08/08/2019Amy
Great. It is a beautiful place - the yurt, the decoration, the woodland - beautiful
30/06/2019Elizabeth
A long weekend break (Friday - Sunday) was just not long enough. It was the most perfect weekend! I couldn’t recommend this place enough. The hosts are lovely, the grounds are stunning and the yurts are magical. It almost felt like the outside world didn’t exist, blissful.
07/06/2019Samantha
What an amazingly beautiful & stunning place!! We didn't want to leave!! A gorgeous yurt inside and out where they have thought of everything!! The stunnung inside of the yurt with log burner and window to the stars, with everything you need, the outside undercover kitchen area and decking for idillic breakfasts with visits from the friendly chickens, the bench swing, amazing views , surrounded by woodlands and the all day birdsong is incredible! A camp fire area complete with hammock, the compost loo and warm shower, drinking your water from their very own spring, marshmallows and toasting fork, maps for the most beautifully stunning walks with breathraking views, a little boat to take out on the boating lake! You feel like you're in your own little paradise!! I felt at home and could have never left! An incredibly stunning place to stay where the hosts are so welcoming!! They really did think of everything!!! Would highly recommend!!! We will be going back as soon as we can!

Fantastic location, hosts and accommodation. Lovely being back with nature and a perfect place for quality family time. Highly recommend this yurt and will need to arrange a return visit.
25/05/2019Laura
Wonderful, loved the yurt, enjoyed our walks, the wishing tree & loved the peace & serenity. Lovely sounds of wildlife & birds singing. Also enjoyed sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows. Very cosy in the yurt. Excellent hosts.
20/05/2019Mandy
Brilliant yurt accommodation in a great location. Lots of interesting things to do with our 3 year old, particularly loved the boat, swings and friendly chickens.
26/04/2019Sandra
Very peaceful, relaxing, another world. Flavia and Richard lovely and helpful.
08/04/2019Clare
We stayed in the old larch yurt in the grounds of Bodynfoel Hall. The setting of the yurt was just lovely, we arrived just after sunset and all the solar fairy lights were lit up all around which looked so inviting we couldn’t wait to get started! The log burner was already set up to light which was a lovely touch so within 20 minutes we had a fire roaring away and could start some dinner in the brilliant little outdoor kitchen area. The grounds were plenty to take in, we ventured a little further and took a long walk in the hills and valleys surrounding and it was just perfect. The combination of fields and woodland was also good for us as we love walking in both. We were left alone to our little bubble but anything we needed the hosts were right there and more than happy to help. We took in some star gazing and even saw a few comets one night! I would recommend this stay to anyone who needs to forget their normal life and relax for a little while.
19/10/2018Katie
We had the most incredible time at the yurt this September, the location is simply stunning, the hosts were extremely warm and welcoming and our experience was absolutely perfect. We loved everything, especially the rowing boat and the hammock, and made memories we will treasure forever. There are no words to describe how gorgeous this place is - you should go and check it out for yourself! Would completely recommend to anyone!
25/09/2018Emma
We had two nights in the most beautiful, tranquil yurt. I have never not wanted to leave a place so much. After our experience my boyfriend and I had serious conversations about building our own yurt for our back garden (not sure how this would work however). The maps left inside for things to do were really helpful and provided us with days full of activities despite the rain. I hope to return one day and be told we can live there forever!!
14/09/2018Molly
Excellent time at the Old Larch. Everything you could want from a retreat away from the city. The yurt was amazing with its hippie style decor all very cosy. Lovely with the wood burner on to keep nice and toasty and the sound of rain as you sleep on the yurt is quite theraputic. You have your own little secluded spot complete with bbq area. The outdoor balcony and kitchen were also a nice touch, giving you the feel of real outdoor living. The night skys when clear are also amazing, lots of stars (the odd shooting aswell
09/09/2018Richard
It was dreamy; the yurt was beautifully put together and private with our own sheltered kitchen area, fire pit, swing, hammock and solar powered bathroom. The grounds were beautiful and extensive and we spent our time exploring the woods and hills and following maps and children’s treasure hunts.
27/08/2018Madeleine
Two nights stay in a wonderful yurt with our two boys, aged 6 and 10. Lots of walking, rowing the boat on the Lake and swinging as high as we dare on the tree swing! BBQ's and toasting of marshmellows in the evening, with reading and board games on the veranda by lamp light. Amazing place and time had by all! Richard and Flavia were both welcoming hosts.
21/08/2018Louise
My two friends and I stayed in Old Larch Yurt for two nights. This is our 8th year glamping and our favourite so far. Beautiful yurt.. Richard and Flavia have decorated it beautifully to make it feel so cosy and comfortable whilst relaxing by the log burner inside. Excellent facilities with everything provided such as pans, plates, glasses and cutlery. The yurt is set in the most beautiful tranquil environment with acres of surrounding land to explore.
13/08/2018Michelle
We stayed at the Old Larch Yurt for Anna's 21st birthday - she wanted to do something different to the usual and we thought this was the perfect option. The estate was so secluded, and everywhere you looked was beautiful. Quiet, peaceful and quaint, with everything you could possibly need - we had an axe to chop wood, a woodburner to burn the wood, a campfire, a bench swing, a hammock, a toilet and shower, a little camping kitchen and endless miles of wonderful scenery. There was even a bag full of little pieces of fabric which we used to tie wishes to a nearby 300-year-old wishing oak tree. Everything was an absolute dream and two nights wasn't nearly enough. Richard and Flavia (the owners) did an incredible job, they were lovely people and the entire experience had a wonderful attention to detail. They truly care about the experience and it shows in every facet of the yurt and surrounding areas. We couldn't have asked for anything more! :)
07/08/2018Anna
We had a fabulous stay, Richard & Flavia have created a beautiful space with everything you need to have a relaxing break away from the pressures of modern life. The yurt was snug, comfortable and welcoming and we will certainly be going again!
01/08/2018Zoe
Friendly greeting from the owners upon arrival but very respectful of our privacy throughout our stay. Surrounding countryside is very picturesque with lots of walks to go on and plenty of sheep! The yurt itself is very secluded which makes you feel like you are in a world of your own. Fully equipped with everything you will need. Perfect for a short getaway. Highly recommended.
29/07/2018Joe
we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the yurt was wonderful and tastefully decorated & equiped
22/07/2018Paul
Absolutely amazing little break. Location is stunning and Richard and Flavia could not be nicer and provide excellent brochure on things to do nearby should you want a trip out. We had such a lovely time and my three year old loved being outdoors, feeding the chickens and playing on the tree swing. She believed we were living with the fairies. We all especially loved having BBQ s for dinner and toasting marshmallows. The yurt is just beautiful and a magical holiday. Thank you
16/07/2018Zoe
We had a lovely relaxing weekend away. The yurt was lovely an Richard an Flavia were very friendly would recommend it.
08/06/2018Vicky
Everything was great
29/05/2018Kate
It was amazing! A real break from reality, already planning our return. The kids had great fun, though keeping my boy away from the fire and axes was a challenge. Fossils, great walks, BBQ the list goes on.. take me back!
18/05/2018Heidi
Fantastic 2 nights, amazing weather so we were very lucky. Used the boat a few times on the lake, did the treasure hunt with the kids which they loved, had bbqs every night and played board games in the eve. All very nice, beautiful serene surroundings, perfect set up.
05/05/2018Thegla
We had an absolutely amazing time at Old Larch Yurt. I can't think of anything that could have improved it. Richard and Flavia were incredibly welcoming and helpful. We felt at home right away, and they managed to strike the balance between giving us the quiet weekend we were after and being there to answer questions help out (when we needed the gas cylinder changed for Eg). The yurt itself is stunning. Clean, tidy, well equipped and set in the most perfect of places. In the forest, but not dark and shaded; next to a lake with a boat; near a hill for views... Ideal. Thank you guys! I think we'll be back :)
20/04/2018David
The Old Larch Yurt exceeded my expectations by far, it was a complete surprise for my partner and he loved every bit of it. We stayed for 2 nights purely because of work commitments, but we could have stayed a lot longer! The yurt was very warm once you got the fire going, and the bed was beyond comfortable with loads of extra bedding and blankets for the colder nights, but we were never too cold once we got snuggled in for the night. There was a tonne of information available for the surrounding areas and lots of places to walk and explore. Considering that you are able to walk anywhere and everywhere, it felt very safe and secure and we felt we had more than enough privacy. Overall, an amazing stay and we will definitely be back.
28/09/2017Louise
We had such a lovely time at The Old Larch Yurt. We were made to feel very welcome and we had everything we needed. As always we stayed in every night just to enjoy the peace and being on our own. We cooked easily with the facilities provided and the yurt has everything needed in the crockery and cutlery department. The estate is beautiful and we could see that children/families would get so much from staying here. You have to get used to getting back to basics but that is the adventure. I would definitely recommend anyone to give it a go. The old Larch Yurt has been the best place we have stayed in for sitting out, even when it rained one night. It was lovely to be dry and comfortable listening to the rain on the canvas over the decking. At night all we could hear was owls and sheep and of course the sound of us talking to each other! The wonky swing is brilliant and such a great thing when you are an adult! We loved chopping wood, making fires and even scavenging for wood on the estate. Lots of wood already provided but we found some ourselves too. A great relaxing, peaceful place to be with a bit of adventure thrown in. Thank you Richard & Flavia
18/09/2017Claire
It was a unique experience, very cosy and homely. Lots of fun and offered so much adventure and lost too learn. We felt it was a place where we really connected with nature and relaxed fully from such busy jobs. We absolutely loved it.
05/09/2017Rachel
It was magical. The children were so excited when they first walked into the yurt. Gasps of excitement. So much so that we didn't move, leave the estate for three whole days (other than a run into the village which I did to purchase milk, which was exactly 2km away!) The lake was a big hit with our three learning to row! The weather was kind and the rain at night made our log burner all the more cosy. Loved cooking outside on the gas hob and the bathroom was perfectly usable. We made good use of the box of games in the yurt too.
14/08/2017Juliet
We had a brilliant time. The yurt was magical and the welcome was so friendly. There is so much to do from amazing swings on huge old trees to a treasure hunt with little tins secreted around the grounds. The rowing boat on the pond was a lovely mini adventure with plenty of life jackets for us all. My children are 3 and 4 but we managed plenty of walks to the wishing tree, the river walk to the community shop for an ice cream and we even managed to find the fossil quarry despite my shocking map reading. Richard and Flavia could not have done more for us. They made sure we had everything we needed and were on the phone ready to help when we got lost (not an option with young children). Holidays aren't always restful as a single mother but this was perfect. Lots of fresh air, no TV, gorgeous views, tired children and cosy woodburners and camp fires. We will come again and stay for longer. The value for money is great as there is so much to do on site. We loved it!
08/08/2017Catherine
It was absolutely magical- remote, peaceful, tranquil but plenty to do nearby. Our hosts were wonderful and the yurt was cosy and perfect. There was torrential rain every day we were there (interspersed with the occassional sunny spell) and it still didn't spoil our fun.
31/07/2017Naomi
We really loved the yurt! Decorated with colourful sari's, fairy lights and tea lights. The yurt was very cosy and warm - a very efficient wood burning stove - which my husband thoroughly enjoyed lighting! We sat outside for our evening meals, drinking process and beer, listening to the sounds of the woods - I loved the sounds of the owls.........and the compost loo did NOT smell!!
23/07/2017Katie
We had an incredible 3 nights stay in the Old Larch Yurt, a mini-moon after getting married the previous Saturday. It really was the idyllic getaway, in the middle of nowhere, going completely back to nature. Richard and Flavia were fantastic hosts, and we couldn't has asked for anything better. The setting was beautiful in the middle of a wood, with only the sounds of birds and sheep. We will definitely be returning.
17/07/2017Alice
We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the old latch yurt, Llanfechain. Made very welcome by Richard & Lavia. Everything you require is readily available at the Yurt from a camp stove to all utensils, crocks etc. The yurt inside was wonderful and clean, the bed extremely comfortable. Loads of lamps and tea lights for the evening time. We built a camp fire 10 yards from the yurt both nights along with a BBQ on the 2nd night, it felt very adventurous! An extremely quiet location on alot of land where no one bothers you, complete peace and tranquillity....bliss. We visited the waterfall 1/2hr away, breath taking, well worth a visit. Would highly recommend a visit, would love to go again!
28/06/2017Rachelle
Our six year old daughter was in heaven as soon as she found the secret path through the rhododendrons, up to the yurt. We pretty much lived outside; cooking, campfires, treasure hunts, walks and the amazing rope-swing! But the yurt was a cozy dream at night, with the log-burner keeping us toastie. Flavia and Richard were warm and friendly hosts. We had an all-round great time.
28/05/2017Nick
We had the most amazing time at the Old Larch Yurt. It was so nice to get away from it all and relax in this beautifully quirky yurt! We were fortunate enough for glorious weather so it was bliss to chill in the hammock and take the boat out on to the pond! It was great to get back to nature, get away from our busy lives and enjoy the sounds of the forest. I can't wait to come back again!
22/05/2017Alexandra
We stayed at Old Larch Yurt for two nights. Even though it rained most of the time, we still had a wonderful time enjoying the magic of relaxing at the yurt in the peaceful woodland. We enjoyed some lovely walks in the surrounding countryside. We felt truly relaxed and switched off from the hum-drum of daily life and are already planning our next visit. Richard and Flavia's hospitality was fantastic, they are extremely helpful, friendly and kind. We are very grateful to them for allowing others to enjoy the peace and beauty of the Bodynfoel Hall estate. The yurt is fully equipped and super cosy.
14/05/2017Melanie
My stay at The Old Larch Yurt was a fantastic birthday present from my daughter. I was warmly welcomed by the yurt owners, Richard and Flavia, even though I arrived rather late at night. Richard showed me to the yurt and gave me a quick run down of how to use some of the equipment e.g. Hurricane lamps. The wood burning stove and tea lights in the yurt were already lit so it was warm and cosy as well as being very pretty with the fairy light chandelier hanging overhead. There was complimentary wine and Welsh cakes and fresh flowers in a vase. The yurt was very well equipped along with the separate loo and shower room facilities. When daylight broke and I went out onto the deck area, the view was stunning - I felt as if I was almost in the tree tops because of how the yurt is cleverly situated on a platform on quite a steep slope! Listening to the birds and being amongst them was truely magical as I sat out on the deck to eat my meals. The countryside in and around the estate was very beautiful and I enjoyed some wonderful walks with stunning views. I loved the peace and tranquility of the place and the feeling of being in the wild. A great place to relax and chill out.
22/04/2017Annagay
Our stay was absolutely amazing, we are back home now, and think it's was a dream and something not real, I didn't know something like that exists in Britain no wifi, tv, electricity and the best no people around us, only nature and wildlife. Love every single minute ❤️
20/04/2017Tetyana
The perfect retreat, just me and my kids. No technology, no schedule, no pressure. Just a few days away from the world. We walked, we talked, we cooked over open fires, we built things, we paddled in the rowing boat on the pond. We thoroughly enjoyed each other. Refreshed and calm. Happy and energised. Recharged. Aware of the beauty of nature.
17/04/2017Kate
A wonderful few days in peaceful surroundings. With the children's imagination running riot without life's everyday distractions, we have had a restful break. With plenty to do from Swinging in the trees, toasting marshmallows on campfires, trudging up hills for brilliant views, searching for fossils and making wishes. It's a fantastic escape. We really felt we had a huge section of the Welsh landscape to ourselves. Highly recommended.
06/04/2017Helen
A weekend in the woods. Perfect hosts, perfect accommodation, perfect setting. A gem of a break away.
30/09/2016Lois
Absolutely amazing! Richard and Flavia were fantastic hosts they thought of everything.....the most perfect weekend in the most perfect location! We will be back xx
16/09/2016Justine
beautiful surrounding. Friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble . Homemade bread was warm just what we needed when we arrived. Everything was explained in great detail and easy to understand. Couldn't have wished for a better place to stay.
11/09/2016Victoria
It was the most restful peaceful place I have ever been to. The touches the host put in like welcoming wine, hot fresh bread the wild flower arrangements. They were not put out the we were late arriving but welcoming by lighting the wood burner and lighting all the hurricane lamps. Over and above care and attention!
08/09/2016Hilary
Really enchanting place. Welcomed with a tour, wine and homemade bread. So much to see and do. We only left the site once for a top up of supples. Would highly recommend
05/08/2016Vicci
Absolutely fantastic! The location and facilities were perfect, Richard and and Flavia had thought of everything.
30/07/2016Faye
The best holiday i have ever been on! From the moment we arrived it was just paradise on earth. The steps up led to the most picturesque accommodation, a huge tree with a swinging bench on it, flowers all around the front of the yurt with bees and butterflies flying around them and then we walked up the steps and were shown the inside of the yurt which was so so cosy and tidy! The pictures really don't even slightly compare to how absolutely gorgeous this yurt is. A short 1 minute walk (maybe less) leads you down to a pretty little pond which was truly majestic, we got in the little boat and rowed around with dragonflies skimming the water and lillypads all around, it was sunny and so we just stayed there, in the middle of the pond, surrounded by nature and we were the happiest we have ever been. We felt so content and at peace. On nights we would have barbecues and laugh, we'd play scrabble and cards and watch the sky. The next day i discovered a hammock we set up on a tree and after showering in the neat little bathroom we would go lie on the hammock together in the sun and read to one another. There are so many walks and beautiful secret places you can find. I will go back!
22/07/2016Chloe
We wanted something special for our first wedding anniversary. We were looking for peace and quiet, somewhere to really relax - we found it!
19/07/2016Katherine
We had a wonderful time. The Yurt was amazing and our children loved it. It was so peaceful and we loved being away from everything. The surround area was beautiful and we had so much to see and do. The owners have literally thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable.
17/07/2016Laura
Well where do I begin? Stunning location and fantastic surroundings, this weekend has been everything we needed and more. Richard made us so welcome upon arrival and showed us how to use everything including the compost toilet (which scared me
08/07/2016Scarlett
We had a wonderful stay for our anniversary, we were made so welcome, the home made bread on arrival was fantastic. We loved the yurt so much that we hardly wanted to leave. There were some great places to visit and plenty of shops and places to eat a short drive away.
27/06/2016Heather
Our stay at the Old Larch Yurt in Powys was wonderful, we loved every second of our time there. On arrival we were gifted with fresh home made bread and wine which went down perfectly our first evening there! The hosts Richard and Flavia provided a really useful booklet in the yurt full of all the local places to eat, things to do etc which came in handy when looking for somewhere to eat, we ended up bringing back an indian takeaway to eat outside on the balcony area one night, absolutely perfect when watching the sun set and listening to the birds quieten, the other night visiting the local pub (beautiful food!). We fell in love with all of the smaller details around and in the yurt, like the swing-seat and the solar powered lights that would turn on just as the sun went in, also the board games under the sofa! The hosts provided us with lots of different essential items for cooking and cleaning, most importantly skewers for roasting marshmallows on the fire pit. We also followed suggestion and visited the pond area to go on the row boat which was a lot of fun, followed by walking up the hills to the beautiful wishing tree. Overall a perfect stay with gorgeous sunny weather!
21/06/2016helena
We loved staying at the Old Larch Yurt on our honeymoon - it couldn't have been more relaxing! Listening to the owls at night and reading in the sun were particular highlights. Richard and Flavia were really welcoming. We really appreciated the food and drink when we arrived!
17/06/2016Jenny
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Old Larch Yurt for our honeymoon week. From the exceptionally warm and friendly welcome from Richard and Flavia (for whom no request was too much trouble – even down to using their mains electricity to charge our electric car and my model aircraft batteries!), to the comfortable and homely yurt, and the stunning beauty of the surrounding countryside and woodland – we loved every moment of our stay!
10/06/2016David
When we arrived we were met by Richard and Flavia who had been sat on a hillside awaiting our arrival and waved as we came onto the estate. Both hosts could not have been more welcoming and the home cooked bread was amazing. Everything was explained in detail, in terms of how everything worked and it always felt throughout our stay that although we were left to our own devices we could have asked for anything at anytime. The surroundings are simply stunning, helped by the fact that we had a superb week of weather. My little girl loved building fairy houses and swinging on the rope swings. The ability to gas cook, BBQ or campfire cook was lovely and the yurt at night with the eclectic lighting was simply magical.
30/05/2016David
We had an incredible stay at the Old Larch Yurt. It was exactly what we needed, and more. Prior to arrival, we were mostexcited by the boat...and it absolutely did not disappoint. We came away relaxed and happy. Even though we've been to some very exotic places recently, the Old Larch Yurt provided us with the best hospitality, comfort and escapism of all. We would love to stay again soon! There are no downsides...even the locals in the pub couldn't have been more welcoming. Thank you!!!
26/05/2016Emma
We had a lovely few days at Old Larch Yurt, definitely helped by the weather being so nice! The hosts were very helpful and welcoming. Although not far from the main house, the yurt felt completely secluded, having a little garden all of its own. Sadly the local pub was shut on the days we were there but we brought some homemade food to heat up on the camping stove which worked out perfectly. The area around the yurt was very beautiful and we were able to take some lovely long walks.
16/05/2016Jessie
Chris and I had an amazing, magical weekend at the Yurt. It was a unique , exciting and inspiring place to stay. Perfect for a romantic weekend with its ample tea lights, cosy log burner, rustic BBQ facilities and stunning rural surroundings. Richard and Flavia were both accommodating and faultless. Would loooove to go back again for a break in the future!
15/04/2016Zoe
Very nice, a beautiful place which despite the weather provided a peaceful and relaxing getaway.
06/04/2016Ben
We had a completely wonderful stay at Old Larch Yurt. Late September sunshine made for a completely idyllic setting. Although, we're sure we'd have loved it equally in less good weather. We stayed for a week and had a great time having quiet days in the woods at the yurt as well as exploring the beautiful countryside and local pubs! Ricahard and Flavia were great hosts - made sure we had what we needed and then left us in peace! They lit the candles and the woodburner one evening for us when we were late back.
24/09/2015Gail
My friend and I wanted a weekend away from hurly-burly of life. - an escape. Not knowing what to expect we were very pleasantly surprised to find this enchanting Yurt on a country house estate nestling in the woods! Welcomed by the owners who ensured we had everything we needed, carried out a comprehensive induction on how to use the wood burning stove, shower etc. We explored the stunning grounds, rowed the boat on our private pond and tied ribbons on the 600 year old Oak wishing tree! On our first evening we enjoyed the wine and homemade bread that had been provided by our hosts. Then whilst sitting on the terrace of the Yurt, eating food we had prepared on the outdoor stove we noticed that as it got dark little solar powered fairy lights dotted around the terrace, tree and inside the Yurt came on..internally the Yurt is decorated with beautifully coloured Materials which illuminated by the fairly lights, hurricane lamps and tea candles made the yurt come alive.. We really were living the dream and found it difficult to leave. The weekend certainly provided the escape we needed and came back feeling happy and relaxed!

We had the most amazing time !
20/07/2015Rebecca
Richard and Flavia were the most delightful host making sure that we had everything that we wanted. On arrival we were greeted with some wine and freshly baked bread ,nothing was to much trouble. The yurt was of very high standard and the shower and loo was absolutely immaculately clean. The use of all the grounds on the estate was fantastic and it was the most relaxing holiday we've had.
14/07/2015Heather
great location, off the beaten track, secluded, great hosts, fantastic accommodation, exactly what we were looking for
10/07/2015Ian
An absolutely wonderful location, beautiful yurt and kind and welcoming hosts. I'd definitely consider returning and recommending this place to family and friends-in fact it's already on a family member's wish list! It's out of the way enough to be a quiet retreat, but not too far out of civilisation to get bored. I can't think of anything that can be improved!
06/07/2015Chloe
Fabulous place, with warm friendly hosts in a magical setting. Yurt is stunning as is the location with walks around the countryside.
29/06/2015Craig
We had an amazing stay at the Old Larch Yurt. It's the only holiday we have ever had when the car didn't move the whole time, we just stayed on the estate making the most of our beautiful surroundings, including the rowing boat on their lake. Our hosts were lovely and welcoming without being intrusive, and I believe nothing would have been too much trouble for them. The yurt was lovely and cosy with everything you would need for a great glamping experience. We cooked on the BBQ and open fire which is an experience in itself. Amazing and I would highly recommend it.
26/05/2015Angela
Our stay was absolutely brilliant throughout. On arrival there was red wine waiting for us and freshly baked bread delivered the next morning which was really tasty! The yurt itself was decorated beautifully with lots of homely touches. The hosts, Richard and Flavia, were so lovely and always available lend a hand if we needed anything but also gave us privacy to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We loved being able to take the boat out on the lake and feed the two ducks that were waddling around. Very relaxing stay with so much land to explore and to come back to a burning log fire at night time was great! We felt we had everything we needed and nothing at all could be improved...it was perfect! We will definitely be returning and recommending it to friends!
17/05/2015Catherine
Old Larch Yurt was so colourful inside glinting with the little night lights. The setting is very private and quiet (except for the amazing dawn chorus). It was really toasty with the wood burner too. The shower and toilet were really good and lovely not having to share these facilities. Good outside space on the decking for eating if weather permits. The yurt is in lovely surroundings set in the woods where you can walk freely. Longer walks from the yurt up the hills or flat walk along river to the village. Outside cooking facilities weather dependent which could be a problem.

It was a last minute booking and it turned out to be a typical UK bank holiday weekend....it rained most of the time! However, this didn't dampen the break one bit. The yurt was amazing with a wood burning stove which kept us all cosy. The setting is beautiful; unspoilt Welsh countryside. The kids loved cooking outside on an open campfire and exploring the grounds. Richard and Flavia were perfect hosts. We're aleady planning our return visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, colourful yurt! Was the perfect place to go for long peaceful walks and enjoy the wonderful scenery Wales has to offer. The yurt had everything we needed, kitchen, toilet and shower included! The owners were equally as lovely and very helpful, even providing us with maps and things to see/do in the area! Loved every minute.

"Fantastic stay. Wonderful yurt, and warm and welcoming hosts in very beautful setting."

"Enjoyed the stay very much. Location is peaceful and relaxing and the yurt is very well considered in terms of facilities to maintain that 'almost' off the grid feeling."

We had a wonderful time. The children were so happy exploring their surroundings and toasting marshmallows on the fire. Richard and Flavia were very welcoming and helpful.

We had a lovely stay at the peaceful old larch days for 3 nights. We wished we could have stayed longer! It was so peaceful and a chance to get away from technology and back to nature.

23/04/2021Leigh
We had a lovely 5 days in a private wooded area of the estate. On arrival Richard greeted us and showed us around. Both himself and Flavia were around if we needed them for anything. We spent every evening around the fire pit, and the days out exploring the area. It was a shame it had to end.
19/04/2021Alan

27/05/2019Amy

Our stay was absolutely amazing, we are back home now, and think it's was a dream and something not real, I didn't know something like that exists in Britain no wifi, tv, electricity and the best no people around us, only nature and wildlife. Love every single minute ❤️

Highly recommended.

beautiful surrounding. Friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble . Homemade bread was warm just what we needed when we arrived. Everything was explained in great detail and easy to understand. Couldn't have wished for a better place to stay.

It was the most restful peaceful place I have ever been to. The touches the host put in like welcoming wine, hot fresh bread the wild flower arrangements. They were not put out the we were late arriving but welcoming by lighting the wood burner and lighting all the hurricane lamps. Over and above care and attention!

Really enchanting place. Welcomed with a tour, wine and homemade bread. So much to see and do. We only left the site once for a top up of supples. Would highly recommend

We wanted something special for our first wedding anniversary. We were looking for peace and quiet, somewhere to really relax - we found it!

We had a wonderful time. The Yurt was amazing and our children loved it. It was so peaceful and we loved being away from everything. The surround area was beautiful and we had so much to see and do. The owners have literally thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable.

Well where do I begin? Stunning location and fantastic surroundings, this weekend has been everything we needed and more. Richard made us so welcome upon arrival and showed us how to use everything including the compost toilet (which scared me

We had a wonderful stay for our anniversary, we were made so welcome, the home made bread on arrival was fantastic. We loved the yurt so much that we hardly wanted to leave. There were some great places to visit and plenty of shops and places to eat a short drive away.

We loved staying at the Old Larch Yurt on our honeymoon - it couldn't have been more relaxing! Listening to the owls at night and reading in the sun were particular highlights. Richard and Flavia were really welcoming. We really appreciated the food and drink when we arrived!

Very nice, a beautiful place which despite the weather provided a peaceful and relaxing getaway.

Richard and Flavia were the most delightful host making sure that we had everything that we wanted. On arrival we were greeted with some wine and freshly baked bread ,nothing was to much trouble. The yurt was of very high standard and the shower and loo was absolutely immaculately clean. The use of all the grounds on the estate was fantastic and it was the most relaxing holiday we've had.

great location, off the beaten track, secluded, great hosts, fantastic accommodation, exactly what we were looking for

Fabulous place, with warm friendly hosts in a magical setting. Yurt is stunning as is the location with walks around the countryside.
