Overview
It’s fair to say that the Jersey cows that used to be milked in this old stone barn, now Ty Nodyn, would no longer recognise it. There’s a full kitchen, a king-sized bed framed by two pianos, a ship’s ladder up to the mezzanine single bedstead and the walls are papered with sheet music and 40s posters offering cures to strange ailments. There’s also a keyboard and guitar in the cottage if you’re feeling musical. The wood-burner, soft leather sofa and big TV in the lounge area are perfect for a lazy movie night, but outside, thanks to the absence of light pollution, the stars put on a show of their own.
Ty Nodyn is at the heart of all that goes on at Nantgwynfaen. You might meet other campers as you stroll around, visit the games barn or head to the on-site shop to pick up the farm’s own recipe sausages and freshly laid eggs or stock up after you’ve eaten your supply of welcome waffles. To let the stars shine, outside light is kept to a minimum, so it’s a good idea to take a torch with you, especially if you’re making the half-hour walk to Penrhiwllan, where you’ll find a great gastropub for a foodie treat night.
Although it’s easy to sit transfixed by the cottage itself, or spend a few days wandering the farm and the nearby trails, there’s plenty to explore in West Wales. As well as coastal paths and beaches, there’s the fabulous combination of a gin distillery and cheese producer, side by side at Teifi Cheese, a couple of miles down the road. An afternoon spent touring the stills and sampling the cheese will leave you with a warm and fuzzy glow.

Meet Amanda and Ken
In 1998 Amanda and Ken, their young family and young-at-heart parents arrived at Nantgwynfaen in search of the good life. Leaving their Surrey homes and jobs behind they started farming organically, rearing Tamworth pigs, hens and suckler cattle with a lot of enthusiasm (and a copy of John Seymours Complete Guide to Self Sufficiency firmly tucked under one arm). The farm has grown and changed over the years and the business has diversified to include fabulous holiday accommodation. They still have hens and live the good life, but no longer milk house cows or make hay having retired from ‘farming’ in 2007. However the farm is let to another organic farmer who grazes the spectacular 60 acres with lambs in spring and cattle during the summer. The farm shop sells their own recipe sausages and it specialises in local and organic produce for which they retain a strong connection to. Ken is the resident artist, his paintings adorne the walls and his tactile woodwork is everywhere. Amanda juggles many hats but is happiest in the polytunnel and flower cutting garden. The farm is their life, and the love and care they feel for the place is clearly reflected wherever you look.
Wildlife & the environment
Nantgwynfaen is an organic farm with an abundance of wildlife. Looking up buzzards, red kites, swallows (April – Sept), sparrows, robins, thrushes, tits, woodpeckers, owls, butterflies, dragon flies, heron and wild ducks on the pond. Looking down, rabbits, foxes, moles, badgers (many badger sets on the farm), hedgehogs, tadpoles to name but a few. It is a place that Beatrix Potter would have been inspired in.
Nantgwynfaen Organic Farm has been certified Organic by the Soil Association since 2001.
The wood used for heating is sourced from a local supplier and fallen wood from the farm.

This place is a little gem tucked away in the Welsh countryside. So well looked after, and a far shop onsite with everything you could possibly need. We stayed in Ty Nodyn which is a perfect little cottage for a few nights stay but anywhere there would have been lovely. We feel like we’ve discovered a treasure and we’ll definitely be back.
15/11/2024Sarah
3 nights was not enough, magical place & we didn’t want our stay to end. Attention to detail & quirky decor throughout accommodation was impressive. Order a ‘Flower Pot’ bread made by Ken for arrival as it’s delicious. Farm shop on site is absolutely superb they have everything you need plus more. We will be heading back 100% as felt so welcome and looked after by everyone at including the dogs.

One of the most wonderful places I've ever stayed in. What a find! My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights with our dog and we all loved it. We didn't even want to go out in the evenings as it was such a magical place as the sun set. The amazing on site farm shop made that very possible and our own patio with BBQ and pizza oven was cherry on cake stuff!
19/06/2023Elizabeth
Our family of four loved our stay at the cosy and peaceful Ty Nodyn. The converted barn is beautifully decorated. The kitchen was fully equipped and we had use of a BBQ and a pizza oven. We ate our evening meals on a private terrace. We took advantage of the many nearby adventures - trips to an old Welsh castle, to the beach, to the lake where we SUP-ed and kayaked. We went on a river rapids trip which my 10 year old enjoyed. I would highly recommend Ty Nodyn.
26/05/2023Melissa
Beautiful! Peaceful, well appointed and with stunning views. Such a wonderful little hideaway - we took one of our teenage children and our two dogs, but to be honest I'd go there just on my own for a couple of days rest and peace.

Our stay at Ty Nodyn was just perfect. We can't praise our hosts Amanda and Ken enough for creating such a beautiful, quirky, cosy, comfortable, fun and absolutely lovely getaway. The welcome goodies were lovely, the bread we ordered was delicious, the fire was already lit on our arrival and it was so warm and cosy. The farm shop is amazing, you could literally rock up with nothing and find everything you needed and more in the shop. The Toulouse sausages were delicious. Our stay was for a Christmas getaway and Amanda and Ken had decorated Ty Nodyn beautifully, the real Christmas tree was stunning and it was all just perfect, thank you. We have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages and homes over the years and we have to say Ty Nodyn has been our favourite so far. It had everything including real coffee, hot water bottles, slippers, doggie bowls and even a towel for our little dog, Ken and Amanda have thought of everything, we will be back for sure, thank you for our perfect Christmas.
23/12/2022Dee
Perfect set up, place and location. Everything was there, love going to places where they think about the small things when having a fully working kitchen. They also pre-lit a fire so it was ready warm for our arrival. The honesty farmshop on site was awesome, no need to do a food shop everything you could possibly need was there.
26/09/2022Will
Greta short stay at an amazing property set in beautiful grounds. Very helpful owners

Delightful stay at Ty Nodyn. We couldn't have asked from anything more - Amanda and Ken were lovely hosts, the farm shop is brilliant, the cottage itself is so cosy, and the farm is wonderful for early morning and late evening walks. A fantastic base to explore Wales (from the Brechfa Forest, to the Brecon Beacons, to Cardigan, to amazing coastal walks and much more). Our dog loved it too, and Amanda and Ken kindly catered for her with a dog bowl and blanket. Would highly recommend.
18/04/2022Becca
Great location. Lovely touch of milk, eggs and waffles. Very clean and welcoming. Everything you need to recharge and relax.
16/04/2022Jan
We had the most wonderful relaxing time at Ty Nodyn. The location is beautiful, the barn was so cosy and interesting and you can just feel the love that’s been put into it. The games barn and farm shop were also amazing touches and meant if you didn’t want to leave the site for days on end you wouldn’t need to.
06/04/2022Anita
Such a unique space where you can see how much creativity has gone into the place. The bed was super comfy and a great place to hide out from storm Eunice! Amanda was lovely and accommodating, letting us stay another night after the storm meant we couldn't get back. The farm shop is a must to visit, some gems in there! Great location too for visiting the various ancient monuments around the Pembrokeshire coast and, when the weather is nice, the beaches
16/02/2022Amy

Just wonderful, we even had wonderful weather for the most part and could have easily stayed, much more to do in the area than first thought and such a lovely home to come back to after long days out on the coastal paths.
20/09/2021Rin
What a wonderful place to stay, the cottage was quirky, interesting and very cosy. Ken and Amanda were perfect hosts and the farm was a treat to walk round. The shop saved us from going out to get the missing onion, milk or eggs or nearly anything we needed and worked via an honesty system.I have 100's of positive things I could say about this place and nothing negative.. we all loved it.
01/09/2021Donna
Had the most amazing stay at Ty Nodyn, beautiful location & what a beautiful place! The owners are the kindest people that made our stay very comfortable with everything we needed, no small ask was a problem. The accommodation was perfect to suit our needs & the kids loved staying there too. It was somewhere we will definitely be visiting again.

Beautiful location. Ty Nodyn is a wonderful place-eclectic decoration, brilliant beds, a well equipped kitchen and a powerful shower with generous towels. The on-site farm shop is very good, and saved trips to the supermarket. The games room is a great addition. The beaches nearby are beautiful and it was easy to find space and peace. Amanda and Ken were very helpful-especially before the holiday with suggestions of places to go and to eat.
15/08/2021Helen
This was just a perfect stay- Amanda & Ken have created an oasis of calm beauty for their visitors- whether camping or staying in self catering . Ty Nodin is immaculate & full of quirky charm- it kept us smiling throughout our stay. The bed is super comfortable & the games room great fun too.

It was also central to places we wanted to visit - Newquay & Llangrannog. We didn’t want to come home. We would love to come back, especially in the winter so we can try out the fire. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Thank you to Amanda and Ken for a short but sweet stay in Tŷ Nodyn. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the beautiful farm even joined by Ben the resident collie. Everything we could have needed was there even down to a dog washing area, although Lily (our collie) wasn’t so keen it was lovely for us to take a clean dog home after our adventure. I thoroughly recommend trying one of Amanda’s breakfasts in the farmhouse and getting a loaf of Kens flowerpot bread teamed up with some honey from the onsite farm shop. You won’t want to leave the seriously comfortable up-cycled piano bed in the mornings. We will be back for another stay soon, especially as Lily is missing her newfound friends.

Perfect set up, place and location. Everything was there, love going to places where they think about the small things when having a fully working kitchen. They also pre-lit a fire so it was ready warm for our arrival. The honesty farmshop on site was awesome, no need to do a food shop everything you could possibly need was there.

Just wonderful, we even had wonderful weather for the most part and could have easily stayed, much more to do in the area than first thought and such a lovely home to come back to after long days out on the coastal paths.

The owners are the kindest people that made our stay very comfortable with everything we needed, no small ask was a problem.

What lovely and cosy all season accommodation. Well thought out, well equipped, beautifully crafted, quirky and relaxing. Rural but easily accessible for those who aren’t keen on lanes driving. We explored the coast by day and chilled in the evening.
