Overview
Settled on the sapling-filled woodlands of Ty Cerrig Christmas Tree Farm, the Gwdihw shepherd’s hut is comfortably self-contained and with sheep’s wool for insulation, we couldn’t imagine anywhere lovelier to cosy up with your nearest and dearest. The goose feather duvet on the clever fold-down bed and wood burning stove make it near impossible to leave. With a kitchen that leaves nothing to chance (wine glasses and salad servers are no exception!), a hot shower and flushing loo, you really wouldn't need to. There’s even a bunk bed for two little ones to sleep in or for post-lunch mellowing out while you wait for your coffee to brew.
Pick up a map or guide from the baskets in your hut and pack a picnic before you set off on your adventure. Remember, you’ll need plenty of hiking fuel for the beautiful long walks all around the Vale of Glamorgan! Drive out to the coast and fly kites on the beach or visit the Capital city of Wales, Cardiff, only a half hour away.
If you’re travelling with friends or Gwdihw isn’t available for your dates, try Bwncath, Helen & Stephen’s other lovely space.

Kate
Lovely stay in this quaint and quiet location. The kids loved seeing the rabbits each day that roamed around the farm. It was fun each night playing board games in this charming hut. There are lots of things to do nearby so it is in an ideal location; as in it is rural enough to be peaceful, but there are lots of activities just a short drive away. Helen was always on call to sort out some minor issues we had and was extremely helpful and friendly. Overall we had a wonderful stay.
25/07/2022Karl
We had a truly wonderful experience getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Beautiful setting in amongst a Xmas tree forest with an abundance of wildlife I could show my son. Was truly wonderful to sit outside in the pitch black under the stars with a roaring log fire annoying just peace and quiet.
08/10/2021Sam
A fantastic place in a wonderful location. Quiet and secluded but with a thoroughly well stocked kitchen and everything you need to make the stay comfortable. We loved eating outside and the proximity to beaches and national Trust properties. The solar panels provided plenty of lighting at night and the shower was great.
03/08/2021Hannah
We had a fantastic stay with our 7 year old daughter and dog. The cabin was lovely with everything you need to be comgorrable and we had lots of outdoor space to enjoy. I was surprised at how private the cabin was as its in a lovely enclosed area. Also it's in a great location for exploring the nearby beaches and towns.
04/06/2021Charlotte
Really good get away from it all, nothing was too much trouble for the host, Helen, even down to birthday decorations and cake for my daughter
07/05/2021Paul
We absolutely loved the hut, I took my wife and three children and a camp bed as there is bunk beds for two and one double bed, on which I must say I had the best nights sleep in a long while. We Had excellent communications with Helen the owner the whole time leading up to the stay and while we were there. The kids loved roaming around the Christmas tree farm and playing. Helen even laid out some fairies for the little ones to spot which was lovely. The hut was well equipped with everything we needed and we enjoyed a camp fire in a well contained fire fit that doubles as a bar b q also. If you like peace and tranquility this place is ideal. A fabulous bass to go and explore Cardiff, Barry Island and we enjoyed a bike ride around Porth kerry National park which is a great picnic sight. We enjoyed fabulous weather and a day sun bathing while the kids played on the beach at Barry. The facilities in the Hut were perfect and the shower a delightful advantage to wash of the smell of the camp fire before climbing into the most comfortable of beds. The two bunk beds were comfy for the children I was told. All in all a lovely weekend retreat.

The most wonderful relaxing weekend hibernating from the world. This was the perfect place to escape from all the current chaos in the world - we read our books in front of the fire, we played games at the dining table, we cooked our dinners in the kitchenette and honestly didn't want to ever leave. It also gave us a base to explore Cardiff and the surrounding beautiful countryside. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your sanctuary.
13/03/2020Hannah
We chose the wettest and windiest days in February to come to South Wales.... for a half term break, teachers have to take the time when they can. Despite the weather and the squelching underfoot it was a lovely two nights stay with out border collie Jess.
19/02/2020Nik
This was our second stay at Gwdihŵ - it’s such a lovely peaceful location and feels so secluded in amongst the trees. Yet also so handy for Cardiff.
14/08/2019Janet
Perfect stay for our first holiday with our newly adopted son ! This is my new favourite website and can’t wait to book again !

27/06/2019Sophie
Had a wonderful relaxing weekend away with our dog at Ty Cerrig. The hut is warm, modern and has everything you need. It's quiet and dark at night, and the bed is very comfortable. Visited the nearby beaches of Barry and Nash Point.
15/03/2019Rosalie
Absolutely beautiful setting, perfectly private to hide away, but close enough to shops for any essentials.
20/09/2018Michael
Stunning location, very peaceful and felt so remote yet under half-hour walk to pub! Cabin very well equipped & more space than expected. Great to have ensuite & hot shower
27/08/2018Melanie
The shepherds hut is beautifully placed in a lovely plantation, and is so serene. The owner was extremely helpful, with every query I had, even though we had arrived much later then expected. The hut is top quality with everything provided, in great style and quality! A really comfortable double bed, a fantastic holiday, we will book again!
27/04/2018Katie
What an amazing place! Very secluded location for an incredibly peaceful stay but essentials (i.e. the pub) in walking distance as well as lots of beautiful countryside all around. The hut itself has been beautifully designed and decorated and looked after by wonderful hosts. Looking forward to returning soon!
15/07/2017Kate
A beautiful site which allowed the kids run free and the adults to forget our stresses by building fires and gossiping in the twilight.

15/09/2016Simon
It rained a lot whilst we were in Wales but it did not ruin our stay. The shepherds hut is well equipped and the beds are comfy. There is everything you need in the hut and the surrounding area is beautiful - lots of lovely long walks. It was cozy with 4 of us in the hut but the boys had the great outdoors to explore. It's a great family retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
28/03/2016Adeline
Excellent! Such a lovely set up, cosy and very well organised.

We had a lovely three night break in the shepherd's hut at Ty Cerrig. The setting was perfect and easy to get to, and the hut was cosy. We loved the compact and homely atmosphere. Everything in the hut has been carefully thought about and fits together perfectly.
29/10/2015Bonny
My brother and I chose to stay at the Shepherd's Hut as it appeared to be a well priced and conveniently located alternative to the samey hotels/B&Bs of Cardiff City. The hut is kitted out to a very high standard making the stay very enjoyable.
18/09/2015Ciaran
We had an amazing few days at The Shepherd's Hut, and took our 2 little dogs who loved it too! The dogs loved exploring the woodland area surrounding the hut. On arrival we were welcomed by the owner who was very welcoming and friendly. He helped us with our bags and took us to the hut in his Mule. There was homemade welsh cakes which went down a treat with a cup of tea after over a 3 hour car journey. Plenty of information provided on what to do in the area. We had sunny days walking along the beach at Ogmore, and later an evening spent outside under the stars dining 'Al fresco' and toasting marshmallows by the fire pit. The weather was not always on our side but that didn't bother us. So on rainy days we stayed cosy inside the hut with the log burner on playing 'old school' board games. We visited the Christmas Tree Farm on site which was lovely seeing all the different trees, and thousands of them too! The Shepherd's Hut is decorated beautifully and the attention to detail is second to none! We loved spending time inside the hut as well as exploring this beautiful part of Wales.
18/08/2015Serena
It was a truly beautiful stay. wonderful hosts and the Shepard's Hut was spotlessly clean! We even had Welsh cakes upon arrival which was lovely. I would definitely stay there again.
07/08/2015Maria
We had a wonderful time at Gwdihw - the hosts were friendly and so helpful, and the shepherd's hut was just perfect. We were ready to move in! Loved the offer of a BBQ pack too, even a bit of rain didn't spoil our enjoyment - in fact it was quite magical.
10/07/2015Laura
I booked a trip away for my husbands birthday and was drawn to this beautiful hut and it's location. I honestly couldn't recommend it enough, Charlotte and Andrew were so welcoming and helpful. The hut was surprisingly spacious, the bed comfy, the shower hot and the attention to detail second to none. We enjoyed bbqs round the fire pit, lit the wood burner and had a wonder round their Christmas tree farm. Both of us said it was one of the cutest weekends away we've ever had
03/07/2015Connie
We had a wonderful 2 night break in the Shepherd's hut - it is gorgeous - beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean - the bed was the best bed we have slept in - so much so we are going to buy the same mattress for ourselves at home! Our teenage boys had a great time lighting the fire pit and cooking the BBQ : ) Owners really welcoming.
