Overview
Bwncath is packed with sheep’s wool insulation for silent nights and has big French windows to fling open onto the private deck when the sun comes up. The cabin is built for spending time together with little pockets of places to gather around; the farmhouse table to plan your day over a lazy breakfast, the leather sofa and chairs around the wood burner for playing board games, or the fire pit and picnic table outside for BBQs and drinks. There’s a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with hot shower and flushing loo.
Pick up a map or guide from the baskets in your cabin and pack a picnic before you set off on your adventure. Remember, you’ll need plenty of hiking fuel for the beautiful long walks all around the Vale of Glamorgan! Drive out to the coast and fly kites on the beach or visit the Capital city of Wales, Cardiff, only a half hour away.
If you’re travelling with friends or Bwncath isn’t available for your dates, try Gwdihw, Helen & Stephen’s other lovely space.

Perfect cosy cabin tucked away in secluded woodland. It was absolutely ideal for our little family to unplug and unwind. Helen is an outstanding host and was amazingly helpful pre and during our stay - couldn't have asked for more

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Bwncath over the weekend. The cabin had everything we needed to cook in the evenings and there were plenty of board games to keep us entertained. The cabin is dog friendly and there were plenty of lovely walks on our doorstep which was a big plus. Communication with the owner Helen was also excellent.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at the Bwncath lodge. It was a very peaceful secluded location but still within easy access to amenities of a town and even a city nearby. The lodge was ideal as it had all of the facilities of a fridge, oven, hot shower etc. and the owners even provided high chairs and travel cot to save us bringing one. There was also an outdoor fire pit which was great for doing a bbq. And had it been winter I imagine the wood burner would have been great for cozy evenings in out of the cold. The lodge itself is within the grounds of a Christmas Tree farm and provided amble parking and space for a little one to explore. Being surrounded by nature proved to be a great setting and we enjoyed being able to just heard the sounds of birds, compared to our home setting of city living. The host was great at communicating and was always at the end of the phone should we have any questions or issues. I would definitely stay there again.
17/06/2023Madeleine
Was wonderful peace and quiet exactly what we wanted
19/05/2023Jade
What a beautiful idyllic place, so tranquil and full of nature. The cabin itself was perfect with everything we needed. A perfect break away from everyday life.
06/05/2023Stan
We had a great 2 night stay. The cabin is in a great location and we love the fire pit for marshmallow roasting!
22/04/2023David
This was the second time me, my partner and two dogs stayed at this cabin and it was just as amazing as the first time. It is so lovely to get away from city life and get back to nature being isolated in the Christmas tree farm and letting our dogs roam. They absolutely loved it as well! No signal and no electricity is just perfect, we stayed up talking to one another and playing games and it was just so nice to reconnect with each other. I would highly recommend to absolutely everyone!
24/03/2023Bailey
We loved staying at Bwncath. The location (in a Christmas tree farm) was unique and perfect for us and our dog. The host, Helen, was excellent and couldn't do enough for us. We were the only people staying at Bwncath and can't fault the tranquillity. There was no TV and barely any phone signal but this isn't a criticism - I really enjoyed feeling disconnected and it enabled me to properly relax.
10/03/2023Olivia
Me, my partner and our 2 dogs had such a lovely time at the cabin. It was absolutely perfect having no signal, no WiFi, no tv and being in the middle of a Christmas tree forest! We had the best quality time together as a little family with lots of forest walks and a trip to Barry Island. The host was very accommodating to our needs and was always on the other end of the phone whenever we needed. The cabin was lovely and spacious and very clean! It was such a perfect weekend away, we would highly recommend this to anyone. It was so nice to get away from the city and stay out with nature and relax near the fire and let our dogs roam around the Christmas tree farm to explore.

Fantastic place to stay away from our busy lives. Really lovely set up, and lots to explore with the dog.
30/07/2022Shannon
Very relaxing stay in a cosy cabin
06/04/2022Robin
We had a wonderful time. The place was very clean and had everything we needed. Would recommend and return for another holiday.
25/06/2021Lizzie
a lovely peaceful space, a relaxing break, well presented cabin
31/05/2021Laura
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bwncath, the lodge was beautiful and very well equipped and super clean. After a year of not being able to travel we were pleased we had opted for somewhere with a lovely hot shower, flushing toilet and kitchen - a little bit of luxury compared with some other options we had considered. We were tucked away and didn’t see another soul during our stay here. It’s in a great location and we visited Cowbridge, Barry Island and Cardiff Bay during our 2 night stay which were close by and we really enjoyed. Would definitely recommend for a long relaxing weekend.
14/05/2021Emma
we both loved our stay here over the weekend, was what we needed! It was in an ideal location. The lodge was very clean, and homely.
15/11/2019Steve
Even though it rained the entire time, we were enjoying spending time together keeping warm by the fire playing board games. Communication with Helen was brilliant we couldn't have asked for anything else from the accommodation.
30/10/2019Matthew
Really enjoyed it here.
27/10/2019Brendon
Took us 4 hours to get there in horrendous weather conditions including driving through flood. On arriving we had a bit of a problem with the gas but that got sorted after a quick phone call. Once we got the fire going the place warmed well and we settled in very comfortably. That said, maybe a booklet of do’s and don’t’s by way of a reminder would help. I have to say that even the lack of sockets for a hairdryer caused less consternation than expected. We didn’t explore much but very much enjoyed the peace and quiet. We would very much like to do the same stay during the summer when we could make the most of the outdoors as well. I would very much recommend this place to anyone.
18/10/2019David
Comfortable stay in a nice spot. We visited Cardiff, Cowbridge and Barry. Wood burner was lovely
11/10/2019Carys
Fantastic stay in a place surrounded by nature, the dogs loved it and we loved the peace and tranquility. Thoroughly recommended!!
07/09/2019Barry
Really lovely, relaxing family weekend.
28/06/2019Philippa
Absolutely magical!! The cabin, the site, the weather - all perfect! We're seasoned C&S customers but this was our first trip away since having our son and we were so thrilled to discover how easily he fit into the experience.
10/05/2019Amy
We were given a C&S voucher by some friends in return for some work we did for them. I would not normally choose this kind of holiday as I enjoy home comforts, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the four nights. The log cabin was very comfortable and well-equipped and the surroundings were very peaceful. As it was cold and rainy, we had a day indoors at Cardiff museum and art gallery, which was very enjoyable. The following days were bright but cold, but we braved the beach at Barry Island anyway, and the kids had fun. We also went swimming at Cardiff International Pool, which was great value, especially as the car park was free. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
08/04/2019Angela
Wow! What an amazing few days we had - there is a certain level of relaxation that can only be reached in the peace and quiet of the great outdoors. The cabin was finished to a really high standard and actually better than I thought it would be (beds were SO comfy!) and the location is great as you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere whilst actually being close enough to civilisation.
02/09/2018Emma
Amazing little retreat in an amazing little hidden haven. We loved our weekend away and the cabin with its fire ring and special location was just the ticket!
31/08/2018Jennifer
We had a lovely long weekend in Bwncath relaxing away from the hectic life we all lead. It was a first holiday with our 5 month old who loved it and seller almost as quickly as quickly as the dogs! Walking through the Christmas trees as the sun went down in the evening finished every day in a peaceful way.
17/08/2018Chris
It was lovely, nobody wanted to leave! The area was beautiful, the Christmas tree farm we were next too, the area beyond with lots of places to walk with the dog without having to hop in the car. Beaches were beautiful. Villages were great to visit. The cabin itself was lovely and on the occasions we had rain it was wonderful to stay in the spacious cabin and either watch the rain fall or do one of the many crafting things we took with us and just relax. We had so many things we wanted to do we ran out of time! Also we were very impressed with how remote we were allowing the dog to chill out in the long grass whenever he pleased without the worry of a passerby(he gets a little nervous) and was rarely on the lead. We will be back....although I don’t recommend it just so that it doesn’t become that popular we can’t get booked!
05/08/2018Lisa
We had a great stay. Very relaxing and the weather was very warm and sunny.
06/07/2018Julie
Fantastic, relaxing, beautiful, excellent location.
29/06/2018Ruth
What a wonderful place to stay!! Clean, modern, comfortable and with everything we could possibly have wanted. The log burner was a triumph and the outdoor space peaceful and quiet with plenty of places to sit and soak up the sunshine. Despite the shepherd's hut being relatively close, there was absolutely no sight or sound of it - the distance between the two places now covered by many growing trees which don't appear in the website picture. If we hadn't known it was there from the website, it would never have occurred to us that there were other guests somewhere close. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days - either lazing in front of the log burner or chilling outside. Great shower, excellent fridge (we've encountered others that couldn't really be called 'cold!!') and a good phone signal. I would highly recommend Bwncath to anyone. Just lovely.
28/05/2018Alison
We had a fantastic stay visiting the beach and Afan mountain bike centre. The cabin was very well equipped and we quickly settled in playing trivial pursuit on the bench outside in the sunshine.
12/04/2018David
From arrival, seeing the cabin from a far, the children were excited and we couldn't wait to load our luggage into the trolley to take it down to the cabin. When we got in the children (as did the adults) loved the cabin. They went straight into the bedroom to choose there beds and started unpacking there stuff. We unloaded our stuff and then decided to sit down and chill with a nice cup of tea. Everything you could possibly need was available in the cabin. We had picked Bwncath as it was dog friendly and it was the first holiday with our puppy. It was great that there was actually a dog crate already set up in the cabin on arrival which was an added bonus. We had previously booked a restaurant for the evening but nipped into Cowbridge (only 10mins drive away) to pick up a few extra things. After a great meal we came back and started a fire which warmed us all up nicely. In the morning the kids wanted to explore so we went for a walk around the fields of Christmas Trees which was great. The weather wasn't the best but we still found plenty to do during our visit. It was a great way to spend Easter Weekend and would certainly consider returning in the future.
31/03/2018Shaun
Set in a rural landscape, Bwncath is a gorgeous and relaxing place to stay that provided the tranquil break we were looking for. Everything provided was of top quality, and we received very friendly communications and a warm welcome from the owners. The location is ideal for visiting attractions in the area, and was easily accessible from the M4.
10/03/2018Gabrielle
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bwncath. The peacefulness was wonderful and we appreciated the fact that it was solar-powered. It was warm, comfortable and well-equipped. We loved the feeling of isolation (we were the only people on site!).
29/09/2017Barbara
Our stay was just the thing we needed after a hectic summer. The cosy cabin was secluded and tranquil. A beautiful place to spend some quality time with the children with no distractions. Well thought out, the cabin itself was a gem and well equipped. We were able to enjoy a campfire both nights complete with s'mores and marshmallow roasting. A few walks around the Christmas tree farm between the rows and rows of evergreens but our hearts at peace and turned out minds away from the busyness of the summer past and towards the season ahead; it also gave us great time with our children to just have free conversation and make some lovely memories. None of us were keen to leave when our time came to an end, and the children have already begun asking if we can come again. We just loved it! Every bit of it. It was exactly what we needed, and we're so very thankful that we could experience it. It was perfect!
01/09/2017Jennifer
Had a great week here, cabin was of good quality, hot shower was better than expected, rooms were bigger than they looked from photos too. We saw bats and frogs around the cabin and it was really quiet. We wanted somewhere with 2 bedrooms so we could have a glass of wine in the evening without disturbing my daughter after she was in bed and the canopy & stars staff sent me a helpful list of everything they had that offered this. Location of the cabin was great for either countryside, beaches or going into Cardiff. I was surprised at how lovely the beaches were, particularly Dunraven bay and Ogmore by sea. Lots of walks to be done locally and great pubs (The Bush Inn was wonderful). A few equestrain centres nearby which sadly we didn't have time for but the one in Ogmore does rides along the beach! Can also highly recommend Cardiff white water centre, my ten year old loved the activities we did there and it was good value for money. My only gripe was that there were no plug sockets so my hair was that of a cavewoman for the week!
21/08/2017lucy
Wonderful and isolated cabin - lots to do around the area and great first holiday with our little one. The hosts were very helpful but signal made it difficult to contact at times - not a great problem though. We really enjoyed the quiet and the lack of technology.
14/08/2017Abi
My family and I (3 adults, one child and one baby) had a fabulous time at Bwncath. Even though the weather wasn't great this didn't dampen our spirits. We were able to explore the Christmas tree farm and surrounding meadow. The accommodation provided plenty of room for all the family. It's the perfect combination between feeling secluded but being within short distance to amenities. The owners were very welcoming and and provided yummy Welsh cakes on arrival which was very sweet. Very happy with our stay and would recommend to friends and family. Thanks Bwncath

We had a lovely time staying at the cabin. It was very relaxing and peaceful!
20/07/2017Ruth
We had a wonderful weekend. Cosy and extremely comfortable accommodation. Great walks and masses to see and do in the surrounding area.

07/04/2017Janet
This was such a lovely place to stay and exceeded expectations.
27/03/2017Melanie
The cabin is very well equipped and spotless, quiet and remote enough to feel away from it all. We spent our days walking some of the trails or at the beach. We cooked one night enjoying the bbq pit and the other evenings visited the local pubs having one particularity nice meal at the Red Lion in Bonvilston! A very relaxing break and a chance to play board games and relax without WiFi and TV.
22/08/2016Suki
Lovely little cabin in the meadows. Peaceful location but only a few miles always from several attractions.
08/08/2016Tessa
It was a wonderful peaceful retreat for 2 glorious nights in a most amazing cabin. The only downside was it was only for 2 nights as we loved it. The whole area is wonderful and Andrew and Charlotte are amazing friendly hosts there if you need anything from suggestions on where to visit to any problems. Just wonderful and cannot wait to return. If you want to recharge your batteries from the treadmill of work I suggest a stay here, no tv no wifi just relaxation in a beautiful setting.
25/07/2016James
Fantastic serenic location and accommodation.
07/06/2016Steve
We had a lovely weekend here. The location is great and we found the property to be spotless, with everything in it that you would require. The bed was comfortable and had a very thick duvet, there isn't any heating other than the wood burner however this puts out more than enough heat and is very comforting. A lovely walk to the coast is only 20 minutes away in a car. We didn't eat out as we wanted to enjoy the cabin. I would highly recommend it and hopefully we will be back again soon.
15/04/2016Tony
A lovely, relaxing family break in a gorgeous log cabin on a Christmas tree farm. Beautiful scenery, friendly welcome and extra touches (e.g. homemade welshcakes on arrival). We enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the firepit in the evenings and playing board games in front of the woodburner on a rainy day. A refreshing break from the usual hectic pace of daily life! Our children loved exploring the meadow and Christmas Tree Farm. A memorable short break celebrating my husband's 40th birthday. Thankyou. We hope to return.
23/08/2015Louise
Loved every minute. The welcome was brilliant, quality of accommodation was high and spotlessly clean,. There was loads nearby for a family to explore both on foot and by car.

We're excited to be adding Andrew & Charlotte's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Gwdihw at Ty Cerrig should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!

Very relaxing stay in a cosy cabin

We had a wonderful time. The place was very clean and had everything we needed. Would recommend and return for another holiday.

a lovely peaceful space, a relaxing break, well presented cabin

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bwncath, the lodge was beautiful and very well equipped and super clean. After a year of not being able to travel we were pleased we had opted for somewhere with a lovely hot shower, flushing toilet and kitchen - a little bit of luxury compared with some other options we had considered. We were tucked away and didn’t see another soul during our stay here. It’s in a great location and we visited Cowbridge, Barry Island and Cardiff Bay during our 2 night stay which were close by and we really enjoyed. Would definitely recommend for a long relaxing weekend.

we both loved our stay here over the weekend, was what we needed! It was in an ideal location. The lodge was very clean, and homely.

Even though it rained the entire time, we were enjoying spending time together keeping warm by the fire playing board games. Communication with Helen was brilliant we couldn't have asked for anything else from the accommodation.

Really enjoyed it here.

Comfortable stay in a nice spot. We visited Cardiff, Cowbridge and Barry. Wood burner was lovely

Fantastic stay in a place surrounded by nature, the dogs loved it and we loved the peace and tranquility. Thoroughly recommended!!

Really lovely, relaxing family weekend.

Amazing little retreat in an amazing little hidden haven. We loved our weekend away and the cabin with its fire ring and special location was just the ticket!

We had a great stay. Very relaxing and the weather was very warm and sunny.

Fantastic, relaxing, beautiful, excellent location.

We had a fantastic stay visiting the beach and Afan mountain bike centre. The cabin was very well equipped and we quickly settled in playing trivial pursuit on the bench outside in the sunshine.

Wonderful and isolated cabin - lots to do around the area and great first holiday with our little one. The hosts were very helpful but signal made it difficult to contact at times - not a great problem though. We really enjoyed the quiet and the lack of technology.

Fantastic serenic location and accommodation.

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The cabin is cosy and has everything you need. Our kids enjoyed 'sleeping in the forest' and lighting the fire. Communication with the owner Helen was excellent. Highly recommended.
