Overview
At the end of the track through the trees you find your canvas hideaway, in its own meadow with hot tub and views of wooded hills rolling for miles from the deck. Buzzards nest somewhere below, barn owls hunt in the field at dusk and you might hear badgers and deer come snuffling by if you’re quiet. There are great walks all through the Cotswolds to take on, like the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way around Swifts Hill, or a hike around Rodborough capped off with a Winstones Ice cream, but the woods are your private playground. There are 12 acres of prime den building, stream damming and tree climbing territory, just make sure you leave enough energy for the walk to the pub. Owners Matt and Susie recommend either The Ram in Bussage, 20-30 minutes cross country and excellent for families, or The Lamb in Eastcombe, 30-40 minutes off road and with a lovely garden.
As well as being great guides to the area, Matt and Susie are the ingenious folk who have designed and built the whole space, from levelling the ground to fitting the lights, which have a nautical theme thanks to a love of sailing. Inside there’s a double bedroom, two singles and a cabin bed that the kids will love. The bathroom, with shower and flushing loo, is out the back and at the front is the large open lounge space, with a big chunky sofa, a wood-burning stove with oven included and dining seating. You’ll also find a hot tub outside for relaxing and taking in the views, and a firepit and BBQ below the deck so you can do some wonderful wild and smoky cooking. There’s a farm shop nearby for picking up some great produce and even a local wine shop that delivers, so you’ll have everything you need to unwind into the glorious calm of the Cotswolds countryside.

Meet Matt and Susie
Matt and Susie Thomson realised their dream in 2014 when they bought three adjoining, separate cottages in desperate need of renovation. They spent three years restoring them, respecting their heritage yet creating a fabulous family home and self-contained guest wing which they run as a B&B. The next phase of the project was to landscape the gardens and tame a small part of the land which has been given over to the glamping area which opened for business in 2020. Matt, Susie and their three children share the cottage with their dog and two ponies.
Wildlife & the environment
The site is part of Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is the largest in England.
Middle Lypiatt is a beautiful rural hamlet three miles from Stroud on the South-facing side of the Toadsmoor Valley. The surrounding area boasts several historic homes. Dick Whittington, the celebrated Lord Mayor of London bought nearby Lypiatt Park in 1395. The Queen's first cousin Prince Michael of Kent lived at the other end of the Lypiatt Ridge in Nether Lypiatt Manor until 2005. Today our neighbours include the home of the world-famous Giffords Circus.
Middle Lypiatt Cottage and land is a smallholding of 15 acres. It comprises a 12-acre field which is home to the glamping site, two paddocks for the ponies, the cottage and its gardens.
A family of buzzards hunt in the valley just below the tent and are often seen from the front deck. It's common to see deer in the morning and badgers at night. The dawn chorus is impressive, and you'll often see jays and woodpeckers in the woods. They have an owl house and a barn owl is occasionally seen at dusk.

Stayed with three friends for two nights and we all had a really lovely weekend. The tent was great and very well appointed and the location was absolutely stunning. Susie and Matthew were great hosts and were very helpful.
16/09/2022Alison
Well-equipped safari tent in rural Cotswolds, with beautifully scenic walks. The hosts were friendly without being overbearing - we were left to our own devices, which was perfect.
29/07/2022RI
It was an ideal spot for a breakaway in the countryside, in style. Perfect for the six of us.
27/05/2022Mark
Absolutely wonderful stay at Toadsmoor during a fine dry spell in early May. We had our three year old and one year old with us and were so impressed at all the facilities the tent had to offer. The hosts were very helpful and always on hand when we needed extra firewood or advice about local amenities. We’re definitely coming back when the kids are a bit older.
06/05/2022Emma
If you could bottle this experience you would be millionaires. Many thanks, Suzanne, Angela and Christine

It was within 2 hours of home. Had sleeping for 4 friends in different beds, great views, quiet. Stunning camping
24/06/2021Michele
The whole thing was above and beyond what any of us expected. Starting with Matt, he was kind, engaging and responsive. Always on hand if we wanted advice on a walk or help with something to do with the tent. The tent itself is PHENOMENAL! Firstly it's MASSIVE!!! The sofa and leather chair are so plush and comfortable, there are plenty of lights and charging points. It is also so inviting - especially with the lovely 6kw woodburner in there going hammer and tongs. So many lovely touches inside. Hot water bottles, bread, milk, super powerful induction hob. The cabin bed is very very comfortable indeed. The shower is great - really warm, really good water pressure - honestly you can't fault a single thing. It's important not to forget the setting. The view from the tent is stunning, the walks from the tent are gorgeous. We saw monkjacks, grouse and plenty of other beautiful wildlife. It rained the entire weekend and we couldn't care less. Middle Lypiatt Glamping is a proper haven and the sound of drops on the canvas while we were warm and toasty inside only made it feel more special. We will definitely be going back - only with a lot more of us!!!

17/04/2021Marc
The safari tent is beautifully positioned to catch the evening sun and enjoy the views rolling down over the valley. Matt and Susie were very welcoming and it was great to have the luggage carried down to the safari tent in the Land Rover! There is plenty to see and do locally; I'd recommend a walk down to The Lamb in Eastcombe.

Our stay at Toadsmoor was truly lovely. The pictures don’t do the tent justice. It was comfortable, everything had been thought through by Matt and Suzie. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Not only was the accommodation itself idyllic, but the location for exploring the Cotswolds could not have been better.
