Overview
Tamar’s perfect for kids or just never-grownups. By day, adventure in the woods, scramble round the play area at the bottom of the meadow, or join Kate on her farming rounds, feeding the pigs and chickens. Pick teams for rounders, Frisbee or football on the lawn, or battle it out over table tennis and foosball in the games room. At night, fire up the hot tub and raid the honesty larder for s’mores kits and Kate’s amazing home-cooked meals, or book the BBQ lodge and get everyone round the table to celebrate. If in need of a little stock up on supplies, you can head to the onsite shop for things like local drinks, eggs from the farm, souvenirs, toiletries, charcoal, snacks, etc.
Tamar is the last tent of three in a row at the top of the field, with views up Brownscombe hill and a deck that overlooks a meadow where deer often come to graze in the morning. With 30m between the tents and no shared facilities apart from the honesty shop, games room and play area, you can easily have privacy, but Brownscombe is a sociable sort of place. If you’re booking for a hen do, then you’ll need to take all the tents and special packages are available for such large groups. You’ll just have to take turns feeding the pigs.

Meet your hosts
Meet Kate, Andrew, Annabel & Emma
The valley in which Brownscombe is set has been farmed by Kate's family for 30 years. After Kate's parents retired, she and Andrew moved back to Devon from London in 2012, to give their two children, Annabel and Emma, the same freedom and country childhood that Kate and her three younger sisters shared there. Kate spent 2013 project managing the building of their oak framed family home (which is adjacent to the Games Room and Larder) and shortly after, she threw herself into creating Brownscombe Luxury Glamping. They wanted to create something that would feel like a huge adventure for the children while the adults could have the best night's sleep possible and all the home comforts.
Although they no longer farm as much land, Brownscombe has stayed true to its rustic roots, with pigs, chickens and ducks producing eggs, sausages and bacon. Now the glamping meadow is full of wildflowers creating the perfect playground for children to roam about in or for groups of friends to get away from it all and have a taste of country life.
Wildlife & Environment
Brownscombe is working with the Barn Owl Trust to manage two acres of rough grassland opposite the safari tents, to maximise the food source for barn owls and kestrels. The barn owl box is occupied and it has been a thrilling site for many guests to see it hunt at night.
There are regular sightings of badgers, deer, foxes, buzzards and the rare cirl bunting. Brownscombe is also in a lesser horse shoe bat super highway!

Our guests say...
Amelia
Brownscombe exceeded my expectations, is in a beautiful valley, lovely location, just thought guests on site to make it very relaxing. Nothing was too much trouble and the extras such as tea, coffee, toilet roll, kitchen roll, cling film and bin liners made a the difference. EBen shampoo and conditoner and showergel. The larder took care of any last minute needs plus the food on offer to pre order at the venue sounded great, although we didn't use it, others did. They recommended places to visit which was brilliant and the decor in the tents just lovely. Farmers rounds were great for the children and the site is so child friendly it gave my 10 and 7 year old a lot of independence. Kate has literally thought if everything. We will be going back for sure. 5 out of 5 will definitely recommend.

Fantastic stay in Tamar in Brownscombe - Very well looked after by the amazing hostess Kate. The safari tent was well kitted out and it was a fantastic surprise to have a local bottle of wine waiting in the fridge (which tasted amazing!). We will definitely be returning to this location, as it can not be faulted.

We had a wonderful time staying at Brownscombe. I simply cannot fault our stay. Kate is incredibly welcoming and our safari tent was comfy and had everything one needs for a glamping get away. We loved the kids being able to play safely and having the experience of feeding the animals. We lived the area and the walks and places to go. And we loved the recommended pubs/restaurants too! Thank you Kate!
11/04/2016Alice
Brownscombe has officially upped the stakes for 'glamorous' camping! Kate has carefully added every luxurious feature imaginable to create a home from home - gorgeous toiletries, unbelievably comfy beds, and beautifully designed furniture. She hasn't forgotten the beloved Canopy & Stars touches though: there's a fire pit to gather around by night and a flock of chickens to meet and greet!

Absolutely lovely weekend. Katie was so friendly and helpful she is a wonderful host and even too the kids for 45 minutes to feed the farm animals while we packed! The larder has lots of little extras like bbq coal wine beer marshmallows bags of ice etc and we really didn’t need anything except our food, everything else was there. Beautiful property and views it was just a stunning weekend.
