Glamping in Exmoor

Spanning North Devon and Somerset, Exmoor National Park has dramatic coastal scenery, heather-clad moorland, wild ponies and bustling market towns.  It’s a nature lover’s paradise that manages to be conveniently accessible from major towns like Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham. At Canopy & Stars we’ve got unique places to stay in this beautiful part of the world, that range from quirky cabins and cosy shepherd’s huts to spectacular treehouses and vintage gypsy wagons tucked away in the woods. Pull up a lounger on the deck, watch the smoke from the firepit curl up into the crisp blue sky and settle in for a few days of glamping perfection.

Why choose glamping in Devon?

If the magic ingredients for a glamping break are views, outdoor adventures and memorable accommodation, Devon over-delivers on all fronts. You’ll find scenic seascapes, forest bathing, epic hikes, foodie festivals and invigorating wild swimming spots. Make it into a game of outdoor bingo and see how many you can tick off in one day. In a county the size of Devon, the main challenge is choosing where to stay, and that’s where we come in. At Canopy & Stars we carefully select the spaces in our collection and inspect them personally to make sure they meet our high standards. Then we listen carefully and scribble notes as our passionate owners share their insider knowledge about the local area.

About glamping in Exmoor

Does Exmoor have a beach?

Exmoor might be known for its wild moorland but it has a surprising number of beaches too. There are pebbles and pubs at Porlock, rock pools at Minehead, steep cliffs and gentle waves at Woody Bay and total tranquillity at Dunster.  Lynmouth beach on the edge of the national park is well worth a visit for its surfing waves, spectacular views from the cliff tops, the unique funicular train ride into the town of Lynton and the chance to spot dolphins swimming out at sea.

Is Exmoor worth visiting?

The rolling green landscape of Exmoor is packed full of attractions that will quickly turn you into a repeat visitor. As well as the obvious appeal of coast and countryside, there are plenty of lesser-known activities to try like the steepest water-powered cliff railway in the world, an ancient clapper bridge over the River Barle, Exmoor Distillery and Ilfracombe Aquarium. Exmoor boasts the highest coastline in England so any itinerary should include a bracing walk along the rugged South West coastal path.

Why do people visit Exmoor?

People come for the history, wild ponies and moorland, but stay for the dark skies and endless outdoor adventures. Exmoor was designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve in 2011 and on cloudless nights you can see thousands of stars and the Milky Way with the naked eye. Usually without having to leave the deck (or the hot tub) of your glamping place.  To fully appreciate the still beauty of nighttime, spending daylight hours throwing yourself into the excitement of mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and horse riding.
