Glamping in Dartmoor

When Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg gives his seal of approval to a place, you know you’re on to a winner. He famously said that he’s never “been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty” as when he filmed War Horse on Dartmoor. The ancient landscape of rolling hills, granite tors, steep-sided valleys and bronze age settlements is a wonderland for outdoor adventurers and wildlife enthusiasts. It’s also home to some of our most amazing and downright most luxurious glamping spaces. Outdoor twin roll top baths with panoramic views? We’ve got it. Romantic fairytale bird box? Yep, we’ve got that too.

Our places are dotted from coast-to-coast, in the most secluded and picturesque spots in the county surrounded by walking trails, spectacular scenery and cosy local pubs.  We are a discerning bunch when it comes to the spaces we feature in our collection and we only choose the ones that offer something special. About glamping in Dartmoor

Is Dartmoor in Cornwall or Devon?

You know it’s southwest, but where exactly is Dartmoor? Make sure you’re not stumped for a reply if someone asks where you’re going on your glamping break. It’s in the heart of southern Devon, a vast expanse of 386 square miles that stretches between Exeter and Plymouth. The open moors are punctuated with sparkling rivers, prehistoric stone rows and enchanting villages, not to mention the most important residents of Dartmoor — semi-wild ponies, highland cattle, sheep, skylarks and cuckoos.

Is Dartmoor worth visiting?

It would take weeks to tick off every attraction and activity in Dartmoor. The fresh air adventures are endless, from adrenaline-pumping water sports and mountain biking, to walking, climbing, horse riding and ‘letterboxing’, a Dartmoor pastime from the Victorian era that has spread around the globe. It involves searching Tors and valleys for the hidden treasure and collecting stamps in a journey or scrapbook. History buffs will love exploring the archaeological remains and Neolithic monuments, while wildlife enthusiasts will be occupied for hours spotting rare species in the bogs, wet heaths, forests and caves.

What is the most beautiful part of Dartmoor?

While it might feel like choosing your favourite child, there are several highlights that you don’t want to miss on a visit to Dartmoor. Go for a picnic at Haytor, the most famous granite tor with panoramic views of the moorland, or a paddle at Dartmeet, an idyllic beauty spot where the East Dart and West Dart rivers converge. The ancient town of Tavistock has beautiful architecture, bustling markets and abbey ruins to explore, while Bellever forest is the place to spot Dartmoor ponies and meander along historic bridleways.
