The team's favourite glamping places for the whole family

Space – and plenty of it – is the magic ingredient to a great family holiday, as any parent who has spent a few nights in a cramped family room in a hotel will attest. Even better when you find oodles of space in a spectacular natural setting with activities to suit all ages, from toddlers to grandparents. As you sit with a glass of wine by the firepit contemplating another soak in the hot tub, watching the kids play wild outdoor games in the fields, only one thought will occur to you – life doesn't get any better than this. At Canopy & Stars we personally visit every space in our collection, so we asked the team to recommend their favourite glamping places for the whole family.

Silva Treehouse, Cumbria

The built-in slide at Silva Treehouse in the Lake District is definitely not just for kids, as our Account Manager Jo discovered when she visited with her family. Her 76 year old auntie Jennie loved whizzing down it, to arrive in the games room below for a competitive game of table tennis and a cocktail mixed at the bar. This palatial pad, deep in the woods, sleeps six and boasts a glorious hot tub on the deck where you can drink in the breathtaking mountain views. Jo says:

“We loved the pool table and darts board underneath the treehouse and the field was perfect for boisterous outdoor games.”

To make mornings run smoothly you can even order a hearty breakfast basket from the owners, filled with local produce. A full English will keep you going as you explore the miles of hiking and mountain bike trails on the doorstep.

Double-Deckerdence, Lincolnshire

Blow your family’s minds with a glamping break so unique you’ll be talking about it for years to come. Double-Deckerdence, parked permanently in the rolling Lincolnshire Wolds, is made up of two converted buses that have been combined on the top deck to create a huge open plan living space. There’s a stargazing deck and hot tub at the top with epic views, an outdoor cinema, pizza oven and even a ball pit. Build Coordinator Emily describes it as:

“Magical in every way you can imagine, especially when you wake up to see deer roaming around the fields at sunrise.”

The whole space is comfortable and luxurious, perfect for families to enjoy a longer stay. Emily enjoyed the chance to spend time together without being in each other’s pockets. She says

“While I relaxed in the jacuzzi watching the dog sniffing around the field, my siblings climbed up to the kitchen via the climbing wall and my parents sat by the firepit watching a movie on the projector”.

Willow Warbler Treehouse, Stirling

Leafy Scottish luxury awaits at Willow Warbler in a private woodland on the borders of the Trossachs National Park. PR Manager Alice and her partner took their 8-month old son for their first family trip and it exceeded all of their expectations, particularly as the owners provided a high-chair, travel cot and even a baby towel. They spent leisurely days exploring the estate with baby Jago in the carrier discovering gorgeous riverside walks, fields full of lambs and cosy fishing huts to stop for sundowners. Alice says:

One of my favourite memories is sitting out on the huge deck for an al fresco breakfast and seeing a surprise visitor run by – a red squirrel! I can just imagine returning in a few years when Jago will be toddling and able to help us spot all the birds and wildlife.”

Like many parents, after a busy day exploring, Alice and her partner loved being able to close the door to Jago’s bedroom and cosy up in front of the fire in peace and quiet.

Sapperton Yurt, Gloucestershire

Close to Cotswold Water Park and a whole host of mouth-watering farm shops, Sapperton Yurt in Gloucestershire is a peaceful retreat on the edge of acres of ancient woodland. Every inch of the space feels designed for deep relaxation, from the sheepskin rugs on the floor to the huge roll-top bath in a converted horse box and the hot tub. The surroundings burst with wildflowers and wildlife, so bring your binoculars and look out for butterflies, owls, kestrels, buzzards, woodpeckers and deer as you explore. Our Revenue & Performance Manager Kelly visited in June for their first glamping experience as a young family. They cooked in the outdoor kitchen, ate out on the decking, and watched shooting stars from the lounge chairs by night. Kelly says:

The little forest play area with a hammock was so cool, and my kids spent most of the time there playing safely whilst we watched them closely, but the site feels very safe and they can’t escape anywhere!”

Kushti Camp, Berkshire

All the best bits of camping combine at Kushti Camp in Berkshire, except there are cosy pods, not leaky tents, plus a swimming pool. The whole site is set up for nostalgia-inducing outdoor fun and the days will fly by in a blur of table tennis tournaments, garden games, hammock naps, long chats around the campfire, and epic BBQs. With four unique cabins it’s the perfect place for a getaway with the extended family which is just what Account Manager Jo did with her mum, brother and nephews. She says:

“The kids loved having their own sleeping pod with remote control strip lights and table football, and we all loved the view from the loo!”

If you fancy a day out, the pretty Thames-side towns of Goring, Pangbourne and Henley are within easy reach and Wallingford has great antiques shops and a weekly artisan market.

The Floathouse Amelie, Cornwall

If you love SUP, you can bring your own and launch it straight off the deck at The Floathouse Amelie, which bobs gently on the estuary near Falmouth. Or use the rowing boats provided to take a trip down the Penryn river, spotting seals and catching crabs with the lines aboard. Gwen, a Senior Account Manager, stayed here with his family and loved the peaceful location, panoramic views and beautiful design. He says:

“We spent hours watching the tide going in and out and even made some time-lapse videos which was a fun family activity.”

When you’re not gazing, hypnotised at the water, there’s plenty to do within walking distance, including a visit to Muddy Beach Café next door, a popular spot for breakfast and lunch. There are plenty of cool independent shops to browse, Jubilee Wharf has dance and yoga classes and Falmouth itself is a pleasant 30-minute stroll away.
