Eight outdoor showers where you can immerse yourself in nature

One of the most uplifting ways to start any day is under an outdoor shower feeling a light breeze on your skin and listening to the sound of birdsong. Turn the temperature dial down for a blast of endorphin-boosting cold water, or linger under a torrent so warm it sends plumes of steam up into the blue sky. Instead of staring at mosaic tiles you’ll be gazing out at hills, meadows, streams and – in all likelihood – a few farm animals who couldn’t be less interested in what you’re up to (or whether you’re as naked as a spring lamb). The invigorating little scuttle back inside wrapped in a towel is all part of the adventure. Take a look at eight of our finest outdoor showers where you can immerse yourself in nature.

Pomeroy Treehouse, Somerset

You can move around as a pair at romantic Pomeroy Treehouse, rinsing off in the double outdoor shower after a steamy session in the Finnish sauna on the deck. Life is designed to be lived al fresco in this luxurious Somerset nest that boasts a grand outdoor tub, an outdoor kitchen with a fridge and a secret roof terrace draped in willow leaves. There’s an outdoor TV up there for movie nights and a dumb waiter to bring snacks and drinks up from the main deck below.

We’re not sure if it’s possible to feel anything other than totally relaxed in this luxurious space, but if you have any lingering knots of tension, book a ‘Massage by Jo’.

Ty’r Onnen Treehouse, Ceredigion

Wild Welsh Treehouses come with wild outdoor showers – this one has oodles of hot water and is tucked away at the back of the wraparound deck with panoramic views over the fields below. Ty’r Onnen is set on an organic farm with no internet to distract you from the scenery but plenty to do on site, from soaking in the wood-fired hot tub to swaying on the rope swing, dipping your toes in the stream and toasting marshmallows over the firepit.

If that’s not enough, you’re seven miles from award-winning beaches, six miles from Snowdonia National Park, and there are plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails on the doorstep.

GoGreen Roulotte, Dordogne

The quirky outdoor shower at GoGreen Roulotte is lake-adjacent so you can spot frogs and fish in your own private boating bond as you’re lathering the shampoo. A roulette is a traditional gypsy caravan and this one is a colourful, simple little space immersed in nature in the Perigord Vert Natural Park in the Dordogne. While away, enjoy leisurely days fishing, den building and reading in the hammock – and head into the nearby village of Jumilhac le Grand when you need fresh supplies from the bakery.

Visit on a Sunday and you’ll find an artisan market has sprung up in front of the castle. For an unusual activity, there are a couple of vélorails nearby where you can pedal little carriages along disused railway lines.

Tom’s Hut, Herefordshire

Hidden away on the edge of an ancient apple orchard, Tom’s Hut is a stylish shepherd’s hut with oodles of outdoor space. There’s a hot tub, pizza oven, firepit, an al fresco dining area and even a handy wine cooler for perfectly chilled sundowners. Plus, the all-important outdoor shower to cool off under on warm days – this one might not be up and running in colder weather, but the warm indoor shower is always ready to envelop you in a cloud of steam. In this peaceful spot on the English-Welsh border, dark skies mean epic stargazing at night.

If you fancy a spot of culture by day, head to Hay-on-Wye to browse the bookshops and indie shops.

Fynone Bach, Pembrokeshire

In its own handmade willow enclosure, the outdoor shower at Ffynone Bach feels like part of the natural landscape while being cosy and private enough to relax in. If you’re partial to a bit of shower karaoke, only birds and sheep will hear your vocal stylings, so you can let loose. Every part of this tall, tiny house is connected to the wild Pembrokeshire landscape with huge doors that invite the outside in, and a meltingly warm hot tub that encourages you to soak for hours under a blanket of stars at night.

Explore the woodland trails and take your swimming stuff down to the Fynone waterfalls for a wild dip in the magical plunge pool. According to ancient Welsh legend, the falls are believed to be an entrance to an idyllic parallel universe. Or perhaps you’re already in one.

The Cove, Devon

Water is the shimmering thread that connects every element of The Cove, one of the most luxurious cabins in our collection. Standing under a cascade of it in the outdoor show, you can watch the light glinting on the sea in the distance. But then again, you can see the waves from nearly every vantage point here including the spacious sun deck, the hot tub and the sublime super king size bed.

A masterclass in sleek coastal design, The Cove is perched high on a hillside without another soul in sight. You can unwind in the private sauna, practice yoga on the deck and walk in minutes to the beach for a dip. Picturesque Dartmoor and spectacular Burgh Island are both within easy reach.

Oaken Fort, Powys

Shower like Welsh royalty at Oaken Fort in Powys. The outdoor shower on the deck overlooks a sweeping kingdom of rolling hills and misty valleys to be admired as you scrub your back. This is glamping grandeur at its finest with a copper bathtub in the bedroom, a look out bar, hammock, huge picture window, sheepskin rugs and a luxurious hot tub. Set off in any direction from the fort and you’ll find outdoor adventures whether it’s a walk along Offa’s Dyke trail, a hike in the Black Mountains, a visit to historic Ludlow or a trip to the spectacular Elan Valley Dams in Rhayader.

When you start to get peckish, head to The Castle Inn in Knucklas, loved locally for its homemade food, generous portions and signature ‘King of Pie’.

Woodman’s Wagon Treehouse, Devon

The sunlight glints through the trees as you linger under the outdoor shower on the deck at Woodman’s Wagon treehouse. If it's raining, there’s a cosy bath inside with equally gorgeous Devon views through the window. Set in a lush private woodland, this floating oasis of calm seems to hover above the wildlife below.

As you sip a morning coffee on the deck you can watch foxes, deer and badgers foraging on the forest floor. In the evening, fire up the BBQ and watch the sunset over the undulating hills before sinking into the handcrafted king size bed, built by owner Mark along with the rest of the cabin. Once you’re deeply relaxed and ready to explore, Haldon Forest Park is a great destination for strolls and bike rides and the Exe estuary is the perfect spot to hire canoes and paddleboards.
