Our most luxury shepherd's huts for a romantic break

If you’re wondering whether luxury and shepherd’s hut really go together, rest assured that we’ve visited each one of these palatial, pastoral pads and they’d wow even the most discerning sheep herder. Get ready to spend a few days in romantic seclusion and luxe surroundings, deep in the heart of nature. When you’re ready to emerge from the cocoon-like comfort of your hut, snuggle up in the hot tub or unwind on the deck with a glass of fizz and epic views. Take a look at our most luxurious shepherd’s huts for a romantic break.

Little Poro

Stroll down a woodland walkway overhung with fairy-lit trees to arrive at your magical country retreat. Beautiful Little Poro overlooks an idyllic apple orchard and there’s even a Cider House for pressing your own juice in the autumn. Poro means reindeer in Finnish and the hut is a beguiling mash up of Scandi sophistication (inspired by the owner’s travels) and Devon charm. The scandi theme extends to the outdoor hot tub ready to welcome you for long, relaxing evenings spent stargazing under unspoilt skies. When you’re ready to impress your partner with your culinary prowess, the outdoor kitchen with its BBQ and pizza oven makes the job much easier. Or you can head to one of many welcoming country inns on the edge of Exmoor National Park.

Justin

He’s a charming soul with underfloor heating, a wood-fired hot tub for two, a private bathroom and a king size bed. The high-spec hut is finished in gorgeous style with vintage accessories, pops of mustard and reclaimed wooden worktops. Romantic strolls along the towpath are a must, as is a visit to the local pub, The Anchor, for some home cooked food and real ales. For a more strenuous excursion, set out on the ten mile circular walk to Belvoir Castle or bring your bikes and try out the many trails (and cycling cafes) in the area. Ragdale Hall and Eden Hall spas are nearby if you’re ready for a deep tissue massage after all that exertion.

The Happy Hare

If you love the finer details, the intricate design features of The Happy Hare at Colber Dairy Farm in Dorset will have you leaping for joy. Perched beneath an old oak tree with its own private wood burning hot tub, the artisan shepherd’s hut has oodles of clever storage (including space to unpack your belongings under the king size bed), an ensuite bathroom and one of the prettiest sinks we’ve ever seen. The Happy Hare has views of open countryside that stretch for miles and footpaths that lead straight from the front door for exploring the rural landscape on foot or bike. You can fish or kayak on the river Stour which runs through the farm, with access arranged through the owners, or visit ancient Sturminster Newton Mill just a short walk away.

Dimpsey Dapple

Opulent immediately springs to mind when you step inside Dimpsey Dapple, perched in the Blackdown Hills in Somerset. You won’t like to brag but you’re actually getting two huts, connected by an interior walkway. The front hut houses the kitchen, table and comfy lounge seating area with a stargazer roof overhead, while in the rear hut you’ll find a gorgeously romantic bedroom with a starlit LED ceiling. Outside, the owners have upped the ante even further by installing a grand William Holland copper bath under a curved roof. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, taking in spectacular views of the rolling fields by day and a blanket of stars by night. If you’re out to exceed your partner’s glamping expectations in style, Dimpsey Dapple is ready to oblige.

Millie The Hut

After a day spent hiking in the North York Moors National Park, you might not have the energy for cooking. Not a problem when The Golden Lion in Osmotherley is a mere ten minute mooch from your cabin and offers an extensive menu including veggie, vegan and gluten-free options. At Lark, the standout highlight of this slick, stylish retreat, is the outdoor bathing deck with twin brass tubs set undercover, but with tantalising views of the trees and stars. It’s part of A Place In The Pines where you’ll have free reign of the woodlands to build dens and climb trees. For a novel way of getting around, there are two e-Bikes for hire, with up to 3-4 hours of battery life at a time, to explore the forest tracks and amazing scenery on the doorstep.
