When nature calls, what better way to answer than with a visit to a loo with a view. Transform the most mundane part of your day into something a little more exciting in one of our glamping spaces where the bathroom overlooks epic scenery. Some loos have great scenery just outside the door, while others have panoramic views from your seat on the throne (as it were). It certainly beats scrolling social media on your phone or reading the paper. The glamping places these unique loos are attached to are pretty special too so exciting visits to the bathroom will just be one element of a much bigger adventure.
It’s a short stroll from your cabin to the private compost loo at Dragon Cruck in Powys. Just enough time for a little day dream before you enter the bijoux hut swaddled amongst the trees. What else can you do? The best thing to do at Dragon Cruck is completely detach from normal life and fall under the spell of the romantic hand carved cabin with its high vaulted ceiling, wood burner, cosy lanterns and festoon lights.
The terrace is the perfect spot to linger over a delicious meal you’ve whipped up in the pizza oven while drinking in spectacular views over the Vyrnwy valley. Other than that, a hectic schedule of nature walks and hammock naps should keep you happily occupied.
You’ve stumbled across one of the most remote loos in England so privacy is guaranteed. The separate compost loo is rustic but has phenomenal views of Lakeland Fells through the window, so what it lacks in luxury, it more than makes up for in scenery.
What’s the cottage like? Cottage in the Clouds is a masterclass in splendid isolation perched in solitude among woodlands, lakes, rivers and mountains. It’s off-grid with no mains electricity or plumbing, but with the charm of low beams, antique water jugs, a copper kettle and a tin bath. There are miles of hiking and mountain biking trails to explore and watersports galore on nearby Coniston Lake.
A wild site calls for wild wees. Not of the ‘behind the nearest hedge’ variety, but in the private compost toilet located behind each of the bell tents at Campwell Farm. They come with complementary views of the wooded valley.
Total seclusion? You’re a world away from modern life, but a short walk gets you to the indoor pool, a great farm shop and the village pub, while the delights of historic Bath are only five miles away. The owners’ vision is to inspire people to live more balanced, simple lives in nature and they offer a wealth of activities on site to show guests how good that feels. You could be wild swimming and paddleboarding in the morning, foraging for your lunch, then green woodworking in the afternoon.
You might forget why you popped in when you clap eyes on the incredible Norwegian landscape through the window in the compost loo at Cliff Cabin.
Are the views from the hot tub just as good? If good means panoramic valley views over ancient pine forest, then yes, they’re pretty good. Jaw dropping when transformed by a serene blanket of snow. You’re so high up, there’s even a cable car to bring luggage and firewood up the mountain where rustic adventures await. You’ll soon be chopping your own wood with an axe, stargazing from the outdoor tub, hiking in the forest and swimming in the nearby lake. Forevermore the sweet scent of pine will transport you back to this magical place.
Behind The Duck Hut in Shropshire, the stylish little bathroom shack has quacking views over rolling Shropshire meadows. It comes complete with a flushing loo and hot shower.
The cabin started life as a fishing and shooting hut in the 1940s – hence the name – and has been lovingly restored, adding a raised double bed, wood burner and kitchen. The wide deck echoes the original style and is the perfect spot for outdoor dining with views over open countryside and ancient oaks. There are books and board games for rainy days but if the weather’s fine, you’re in glorious walking country with routes to a nearby Bronze Age stone circle, and up on to spectacular Stiperstones Ridge.
