Our most remote and completely off-grid cabins

Remove digital temptations and get away from it all in one of our beautiful, remote cabins without mobile phone signal or WIFI. The thought might make your palms sweaty, but once you’re immersed in nature away from everyday stresses, you’ll feel your shoulders drop, your mind quieten and your smile grow wider. Give your focus to one thing – or one person – at a time on a cabin getaway. It’s good for the soul. Take a look at our off-grid cabins where your only urgent reminder is to enjoy the present.

Hinterlandes Cabin

So utterly remote, you won’t even know where Hinterlandes is, until you get there. This cosy cabin on wheels moves regularly between several jaw-droppingly gorgeous spots in the secluded Lorton Valley. Don’t worry, full directions are provided before you set off! You’ll feel like the only people on earth, as you sit on the deck by the firepit in Cumbrian wilderness. Fire up the hot tub nestled among the trees and breathe in deep lungfuls of fresh woodland air. The Lake District is your back garden adventure playground, with endless hill trails, wild swimming in mountain streams and abundant wildlife. The owners’ vision was to leave no footprint on the land, and nomadic Hinterlandes definitely achieves that. It’s back to basics but with everything you need including a warm shower and a compost toilet.

Cottage In The Clouds

Cottage in the Clouds is known as one of the most remote homes in England, so if splendid isolation tops your wish list, you’ve found it slap bang in the middle of the Lake District National Park. Stock up on provisions before you arrive and get ready to step back in time for a few blissful days off-grid without mains electricity or plumbing. Instead you’ll find a wood burner, copper kettle, tin bath, charming antique water jugs, and low beams in an old stone cottage that has been lovingly restored by Grizedale Arts and the National Trust. What you might lack in hotel-style luxuries, you more than gain in staggering views of the surrounding hills. Walk for miles from the front door through protected woodlands, past rivers and mountain lakes or take the kayak out for a few laps of nearby Coniston Water.

The Magic Mushroom

Steady on, The Magic Mushroom refers to this rustic cabin’s shape, although it has to be said, there are distinct laid-back festival vibes at Mill Valley in Cornwall. Leave the tech behind and replace it with outdoor adventures in 15 acres of wooded valley, teeming with wildlife. You’ll be surprised how quickly you slide into a gentler pace of life in your simple handcrafted cabin with a big double bed, wood burner, bookshelves, candles and an old seed drill reclaimed from the farm. You’ve got your own private BBQ but you’ll probably bump into other like-minded guests at the friendly communal kitchen. The delights of coastal Cornwall are yours to explore with fabulous beaches nearby as well as the foodie-mecca of Padstow and the spectacular Eden Project.

The Withywindle

The owners of The Withywindle are living the rural dream after fleeing busy city streets for the Devon countryside. Feel inspired by the simple life during your stay, in this stunning off-grid cabin hidden in a meadow, surrounded by trees. Clad in a mixture of beautiful cedar shingle and rusty tin, The Withywindle has been cleverly designed to change colour and blend into the natural setting as it ages. With a huge Swedish bath steaming on the deck, a double hammock and an outdoor pizza oven, you’ve got everything you need for deep relaxation and there’s no one around to disturb the peace. The playful design features will put a smile on your face, especially the three quirky little windows by the sleeping area, each with a different style of shutter to block the light out. Stargazing by the fire pit with a local cider at night will reset your system to seriously mellow.

The Heron, Colber Farm

Bring the kids to this ‘tiny barn’ in Dorset and let them burn off some energy running riot in the fun hayloft. Unplug your devices and settle in for some quality time reconnecting with nature on a 240-acre working dairy farm. The ten-minute walk from the car park to the cabin gets you in the mood for seclusion, but you can borrow a wheelbarrow or grab a lift if there’s too much to carry. Dream away your evenings in the outdoor bath with a glass of wine or cosy up in front of the wood-burner, with books, board games and DVDs. The beautiful River Stour runs through the farm where you can try your hand at fishing and kayaking, or you can access local footpaths with a ten-minute stroll. With exciting ‘real life’ activities like hot air ballooning, quad biking and archery on the doorstep there’s no time to look at your phone anyway.

The Devon Den

Powered by the sun, The Devon Den melts into the surrounding trees encouraging you to breeze in and out to the woods, immersed in nature. Sleeping six, this stress-free, off-grid sanctuary is a magical place to regroup with friends and family. Sip sundowners on the veranda as the light fades, then eat and be merry around the large outdoor feasting table. The birds and the babbling stream provide gentle background music. Rid yourself of any lingering stress by booking a session in the beautiful wood fired sauna or enjoy a massage from a local therapist. Once you’ve rediscovered a peaceful, digital-free rhythm, you might want to explore the glorious beaches or the Granite Way cycle path along old railway lines. But first, one more doze in the hammock in the utter tranquillity of nature.
