Our coolest A-Frame cabins

Rising up proudly from the landscape like giant wooden tents, A-Frame cabins have the wow factor. The striking design lends itself to bright, airy interiors with light streaming through sloping windows and bedroom nooks tucked away in the eaves. Our A-Frame cabins range from bijoux and cosy, to spectacular feats of design that let in pitch-perfect views and make use of every inch of space with creative ingenuity. Whichever place you choose, you’ll get a shiver of excitement each time you return to your angular pad to see morning sunlight reflecting off the windows or the deck lit up with fairy lights at night. Square hotel rooms just aren’t going to cut it after this.

A Frame, Herefordshire

Tucked into a Herefordshire hillside on a stunning eco glamping site, A Frame is a masterclass in design with huge floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s so much to enthuse about, we’re not sure where to start but the elevated deck has to be seen to be believed. It boasts a wood-fired hot tub, deluge shower, pizza oven and sublime views over 18 acres of rewilded countryside. In pleasant contrast to all that breezy, open plan space, the cosy bedroom is up a wooden ladder on a mezzanine deck with velux windows to let in the morning light.

At the other end of the day, you’ll want to be happily sat on the wooden loungers with a glass of fizz to make the most of the sunset. In this idyllic spot on the border you’re within easy reach of the bookshops and markets of Hay-on-Wye and hiking trails in the Black Mountains.

The Bivvy, Shropshire

Head for a glamping break in splendid isolation, surrounded by fields of sheep, but just a short walk from the historic town of Ludlow. The Bivvy is a rustic A-frame hideaway that blends seamlessly into the Shropshire landscape. It’s kitted out with cleverly upcycled items like an old ladder that has become kitchen shelving, a beehive frame that forms part of a wall and a rake used for shower hanging space. Along with the fairy lights hung around the porch, it all adds to the rustic, off-grid charm.

As well as strolls into Ludlow, it’s worth getting out into the beautiful Shropshire Hills from Church Stretton,a 30-minute drive away, where you’ll find wild ponies, walking trails and babbling streams. Bringwood, the world-famous downhill mountain track is a ten-minute drive away or you can go for a canter at North Farm Riding school.

The Perch, Powys

This luxurious cabin lives up to its name, perched on a steep hillside with views over rolling Welsh hills. Inside there’s no detail the owners haven’t thought of to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. You’ll receive a welcome pack on arrival, the mattress has cloud-like comfort levels, there are bath robes, luxury toiletries, a hot power shower and even a book that details how The Perch was built.

Outside, the hot tub has a convenient shelf for your wine glass and there’s a separate gravel terrace with chairs around the firepit. The nearby market town of Llanidloes has lovely independent outlets including a pottery shop and several pubs, and the Mid Wales Art Centre is just six miles away. You can hike and mountain bike in the wild landscape and there’s even a local cider producer with tasting rooms just up the road.

Offa’s Pitch, Shropshire

Offa’s Pitch gets an A* for A-frame luxury. Tucked away in a quiet paddock surrounded by trees and a babbling brook, the spacious timber-framed cabin blends rustic charm with serious mod-cons. We’re talking an iPad Pro with wifi, underfloor heating, designer furniture, LED lighting, a sleek kitchen and gorgeous bathroom.  The huge deck has the obligatory wood-fired hot tub and the total lack of street lighting means the stargazing is out of this world.

There are beautiful hiking and walking routes in the nearby Shropshire Hills and the famous Offa’s Dyke National Trail is a few minutes from the front door. Visit picturesque villages like Clun, home of the famous Green Man Festival, or try something completely different and fly through the skies on a tandem paraglide at Long Mynd Soaring Club.

Waney Cabin, Shropshire

Live the simple life in a rustic little A-frame cabin in Campbell Woods village, just a stone’s throw from beautiful Bath. There’s a wood burner and a cosy double bed under the sloping roof and that’s really all you need when there are communal bathroom facilities and a sociable kitchen shared with other guests who are staying among the ancient trees.

The owners are on a mission to encourage people to live more natural and adventurous lives, and they’ve set up the whole magical space to help you do exactly that. There’s a wood-fired sauna and various activities on offer including yoga, wild swimming, archery, woodworking and campfire cookery.  If you want to dip a toe back into civilization for an afternoon, the Georgian splendour of Bath is five miles away.
