Best cabins for a romantic minimoon

Your first holiday as a married couple comes with high expectations, so let’s set the bar high. After the excitement of the big day, a romantic minimoon is a chance to relax, reconnect and reminisce about the best man’s antics on the dancefloor. You might be planning a longer honeymoon later on, but not everyone wants to rush off on a far-flung adventure immediately after saying “I do”. Instead of navigating airport crowds, book a romantic cabin break and spend a few days lavishing undivided attention on your new spouse. We recommend breakfasts in bed, scenic nature walks, fizz in the hot tub and an indulgent spa treatment or two.

At The Pond

The sunken tub on the deck should be your first port of call when you arrive At The Pond. Grab a bottle of something chilled, don your skimpiest swimwear and cuddle up in the warm water to watch dragonflies skate over the swimming pond below. If you’re out to impress, take a running leap from the long jetty into the refreshing waters, before sprinting to the steam room to warm up. The outdoor BBQ is perfect for romantic al-fresco dinners but if you’d rather avoid cooking there are fantastic restaurants in nearby Bruton, as well as elegant, seasonal dining at The Newt. Guest Annalene said “My husband and I chose At The Pond as our honeymoon destination, we could not be happier with the choice! It was perfect from the start and in every way”.

Holly Water Cabin

You’ve found ‘Devon on earth’ with a side order of Scandi sophistication at Holly Water Cabin. The pale wood interior with accents of copper, leather and stone makes the perfect backdrop for minimoon selfies. Equally photogenic is the gorgeous outdoor copper tub, designed for sunset soaks and stargazing. Your days will blur into an idyllic medley of meals cooked over the open campfire, walks through wildflower meadows, games of tennis and long chats with feet dangling in the stream. The buzzy city of Exeter is close by and hosts Sarah and Ed can recommend romantic eateries fit for newlyweds. Walks and wild swimming in Dartmoor and Exmoor are an hour away by car.

Quiet of Stars

Start married life with spectacular views over Cornish hills at Quiet of Stars. It doesn’t get much more romantic than a sky completely free of light pollution that transforms into a blanket of twinkling stars by night. Even better, the constellations can be viewed from the steamy embrace of the hot tub. The cabin itself is beautifully stylish with some of Cornwall’s most popular attractions on the doorstep. The South West Coast path is five minutes away while the Eden Project, Fowey and Looe are all close by. Nearby Botelet offers bespoke, nourishing massages that can be done al fresco accompanied by the sounds of nature. Guest Tabby said “We arrived to find a lovely card, homemade brownies and a bottle of organic prosecco as a congratulations on our wedding. We loved every minute of our stay”.

Edens Vale Lodge

Described by one guest as ‘a mixture of log cabin and spa retreat’, Eden Vale Lodge has so many places to relax that you might forget to explore the gorgeous Cumbrian surroundings. From the vast handmade bed and crackling wood burner to the warm outdoor tub, private sauna and hanging chair on the deck, it’s the perfect cabin to do absolutely nothing in. If you do venture out of your love nest, there are Lakeland trails leading from the front door and the shops and cinema of Penrith are only a ten-minute drive away. Guest Lorraine said, “my husband and I had the most amazing minimoon here. It was luxurious and picturesque. The perfect place to relax and be together away from the usual stresses of everyday life.”

The River Lodge

Celebrate your newlywed status on an idyllic private stretch of river in the North York Moors. If you’re after seclusion, you’ve come to the right place — the only other souls you’ll see are the occasional passing fisherman and fellow visitors to The Horseshoe Hotel, the estate’s very own pub. The incredibly romantic king size bed is strewn with sheepskin rugs and, if you can drag yourselves from under the sheets, it’s just a few steps to the outdoor bath and BBQ on the deck. Pad across the grass and your toes will soon be dangling in the river as you look out for salmon, seatrout and otters. Guest Richard said: ‘We stayed here for our minimoon. We absolutely loved our stay, it was so quiet and discreet. The lodge was lovely and comfy and had all the facilities you needed.’

Humble Bee

You’ll come back buzzing from a mini moon at Humble Bee, a honey-hued hive perched in Devon woodland. With a sultry dark wood interior set over three floors, the owners have let their imaginations run wild and the end result is total escapism. If you can tear yourselves away from the romantic surroundings and private outdoor tub, there are amazing walks nearby along the Granite Way and over the moors to Belstone. It’s worth checking out old Okehampton station too where you can rent bikes and make memories cycling along the old railway line to Tavistock. Oakhampton itself is the perfect place to mooch around farmers markets, auction houses and indie shops to find souvenirs of your first married getaway.
