Which wine to pair with your next adventure: Pt II

You simply can't imagine some scenarios without wine. Whether it's swirling the natty stuff with panache whilst you eye up your small plates, late nights with your feet tucked into the sofa chatting nonsense with a friend, or of course - staring at the view at a Canopy & Stars space. If you're going to do something right, it's worth asking the experts, so we asked Henry Butler & Cassie Gould of Butler's Wine Cellar for some more recommendations for adventures you're likely to have at Canopy & Stars spaces. As ever, they came up with some fantastic pairings.

A cosy cabin escape in the woods?

Oak Farm Vineyards Albari?o 2022 (California, USA) - £25.49

I’m not sure if I think this bottle looks sexy or not, but the wine inside the bottle is definitely attractive.

Albarino is a white grape variety, more commonly found in Galicia, Spain. Oak Farm, based in southern California, specialise in making tasty wines from uncommon varieties. This wine is packed with tropical fruit flavours, matched with zesty acidity, making it very moreish. Fire up the BBQ and throw on some big, sweet prawns – this would be a match made in the stars.

Alternatively, light the log burner, grab an ice bucket and enjoy this alongside some picky bits and a good book.

Drink at: Baron. Backed by pine forest, with views of the Isle of Arran, it's the perfect place for a glass.

Riverbank lunch after canoeing

Savage Salt River Sauvignon Blanc 2022 (South Africa) - £18.99

Why not be bold and dangle this bottle from a string in cool river water, while you sit paddling after an energetic canoe journey.

Salt River is named after the place it comes from in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It is a Sauvignon Blanc made by Duncan Savage, who is considered a legendary winemaker with this variety. This is a much sought after wine, so grab hold of it while you can.

Serve this crisp wine chilled, whilst listening to the relaxing sounds from a riverbank, and let the concentrated fruit flavours wash over you.

Drink at: Pointy. With its own private beach on the riverbank, it's perfect for a tipple.

Lunch al fresco

Monte de Peceguina Branco 2022 (Portugal) - £23.99

Immerse yourself in nature, with this sustainably farmed, delightful Portuguese white wine. It comes from a family estate in southern Portugal, who together protect the local biodiversity by promoting a vibrant mix of nature, fruit, and livestock.

The local environs are highlighted every single vintage by the children of the family, who paint a picture for the wine label, detailing an insect, animal or flower they spot in the vineyard.?

This is a crisp white wine but has an underlying richness. Perfect for drinking alfresco, before an afternoon nap.

Drink at: The Wee Trailer. There's few places finer for a meadow picnic than the Ballochneck Estate.

A lazy afternoon relaxing near a body of water

Restless River Main Road & Dignity (South Africa) - £56.50

What a wine, arguably one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in South Africa. The vines for this wine come from two sites, Main Road and Dignity, hence the very informative label! These vineyards are less than 20km away from Hermanus, an area famous for whale and shark watching.

You don’t need anything so dramatic to enjoy this wine. Pull up a deck chair near a river, listen to the water lapping by, while you contemplate the layers of flavour in this majestic wine. It is full of ripe cassis fruit, with a firm structure, but it leaves you upbeat and wanting more.

Drink at: Oyster. Drink Restless River, on a calm one, floating about on a boat.
