Overview
This incredible space blends seamlessly into a sweeping hillside in the lovely landscape of Powys, surrounded by lush green, the farm’s sheep and cows, and absolutely nothing else. The spot is tranquil perfection and you can throw open the metres of folding doors and make the broad patio an extension of the chic lounge. The space is colourful and classy, with a copper bath tub in the main bedroom and a very large double shower in the bathroom used by guests in the three-person bunk room. Spend a bit of time stretched out on the huge corner sofa, then wander out to sit by the firepit, take a dip in the hot tub or go down to the stream and set up lunch on the picnic bench. With the Elan Valley Dark Sky Park just round the corner, you’ll be treated to incredible starscapes on clear nights and if you’re quiet you might hear and see all kinds of wildlife. Badgers, foxes and deer all live in the area, there’s a huge amount of birdlife, especially surrounding the large pond at the bottom of the garden, and even elusive otters. The sheep, slightly less elusive, may come and peer in the lounge window from time to time, but they’re fenced off and more skittish than they are curious.
The main activity here, apart from just revelling in the space, is walking. Trails lead off right from the door and crisscross the countryside for miles. It’s probably too long to hike to the nearest pub (about 11 miles) or shop (about 7 miles), so be sure to stock up on what you need while you’re out or on your way here. Foodie Ludlow is about half an hour away and has some great places to gather ingredients or eat out. The Burrow’s remoteness does mean perfect seclusion though. It’s down a track on the farm that goes nowhere else and while owners Tom and Amy live 300m away, you won’t see them, or anyone else, coming by. There are some great day trips available if you can tear yourself away, from castle ruins or the Knighton observatory to riding stables and a kite feeding station. The area has so much to offer that you’ll never be bored, but The Burrow has so much to offer that you might just prefer to be.

Meet Tom and Amy
The Burrow and The Warren are situated on Dolassey farm which is run by Tom, his graphic designer wife Amy and their two small children. Tom built the majority of both spaces himself, including some of the furniture for example, the kitchen table. The farm has been in the family for over 35 years.
They live close to The Burrow and The Warren and can be on hand should you need anything.
Wildlife & the environment
Dolassey is a working farm, so there will be plenty of sheep and cows from the family flock/herd. There is opportunity to see badgers, foxes, deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, squirrels and other small mammals. There is a pool with wild geese, ducks, moore hens and the occasional heron and otter (varies through the seasons.) Being surrounded by trees, you will most likely see a variety of birds too.

Fantastic cottage! We had a lovely time and wish we could have stayed longer. The children loved playing in the stream and we all loved the hot tub! At night it was an excellent spot to view the stars. The sheep next to the Burrow were wonderful neighbours who would peer in through the kitchen window from time to time! We loved the Burrow and would definitely come again.

Had family over from Australia and our stay in The Burrow was PERFECT!
05/07/2024Rebecca
Absolutely beautiful surroundings, the accommodation was amazing, beautifully designed and perfectly suited the location. The sheep and the wildlife was really nice to see. We enjoyed every minute of our stay, especially ending the day in the wonderful hot tub. A must stay.

Beautiful location, lovely hosts, incredibly high quality accommodation!

Our stay was perfect. Everything was better than described. The owner was only too happy to take our call and stay on the phone and help when we got only very slightly lost with the sat-nav. Our parking area was separated from the rest of the grounds by a gate, so it felt really private. The Burrow is beautifully furnished and a lot more spacious than we expected. Kitted out to the nines, you've even got a hoover to suck-up those pesky spiders should you see one. The bedrooms and the lounge all had a television should you and your guests all want to watch something different and get a bit of space you can. We loved watching the squirrels and the birds play out on the rather large and dominating tree directly in front of the Burrow, and spotted the sheep and their babies whilst visiting over the Easter Bank holiday which was really special. The owners were lovely all round. Certainly a place we would recommend, but will try and keep to ourselves so that there's enough availability that we can visit again. Thank you Tom and Amy, you have created something really special.

Delayed by covid for two years, we were thrilled to make it! A relaxed stay in a place that oozed quality and allowed us precious time to wind down.

We had a wonderful stay at the Burrow- one of the most amazing places we've ever stayed! The accommodation was beautifully designed and the location just perfect. Huge thanks to Tom and Amy for having us!

We would come back in a heartbeat! We book every June with C&S for my husbands birthday and this year we are especially pleased with the Burrow, the small details won our hearts. The ice cubes ready for cold refreshments, the binoculars to see the wildlife and the books and games for rainy days while still enjoying the outdoors. The copper bath by the big window was a special treat for me. The window in the kitchen where the sheep peeped their head was a delight. The kitchen and bathroom were well facilitated with extra towels and plenty of kitchen crockery. I have to give a special nod to the simplicity and chic of the fixtures from door handles to lighting, it gave the place a modern luxurious feel yet still rustic. The oak dining table gave a feel of being outdoors especially having the folding doors open when it was raining.

We had a wonderful few days at The Burrow celebrating our sons birthday. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful. The property is beautiful and the setting just amazing. The hot tub is a fantastic addition and we would definitely book again in the future.

Fabulous location and holiday
18/04/2022Lowri
Amazing stay in beautiful surroundings. The burrow was fully equipped with everything our family of 4 needed. A luxurious hideaway that overlooked fields and a stream that the kids loved splashing about in. Star gazing in the hot tub was a highlight but the daily visits from Beau the farm dog was the icing on the cake for the children. A wonderful retreat from reality that we hope to visit again very soon!
18/03/2022Samantha
Fabulous property with no expense spared. It had such a luxurious feel about it & everything was provided (even ice for my Gin wasn't too much trouble!) The beds were so comfy & snuggly in the horrible, wild weather & the underfloor heating helped us to feel cosy behind the glass. The location is beautiful, peaceful & pretty, plus we even spotted Red Kites flying overhead whilst out in the hot tub. The children loved everything about this place & want to book for longer next time. Sadly the first of our three night stay was cancelled due to Storm Eunice, as the power was out at The Burrow until the early evening, by which time it was too dangerous for us to travel, but we still had an amazing stay. Would highly recommend!
18/02/2022Alexandra
We had an amazing stay at the Burrow. The location is remote which means it’s very private. The burrow is the lowest of the 3 lodges, down by the stream. It was lovely to watch the squirrels and birds eating from the bird feeder. The interior of the lodge is so modern and beautiful. It is remote so you need a car to travel quite far to get to anything. The only activity immediately around is walking. We also visited elan valley to see the Dams. But we highly recommend a visit to the cider barn for dinner. Half an hour aaah and well worth the drive. The chef is so talented and we ate the most incredible food! We agreed it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We found a lot of the nearby attractions and restaurants were shut in January so we were slightly limited but it was lovely to spend time in the lodge with the hot tub, and come back in and warm up by the fire. Beautiful weekend!
28/01/2022Bethan
Great stay over New Years weekend. We had a lovely time and the place was beautiful.
31/12/2021Sarah
We had such a beautiful weekend here in The Burrow. Surrounded by nature and sheep, completely hidden away it was easy to forget about everyday life and really switch off. It was a perfect place for a weekend escape - we lucked out with the weather and clear nights that made stargazing an absolute dream. If you're looking for an escape to the country and to be completely alone - this is it.
08/10/2021Jade
Loved the location and accommodation. Very clean and equipped with everything we needed. The hot tub was great and very clean. Great level of privacy.
27/09/2021Ben
This place has something for everyone! Suitable for families of all ages (we had a child and older in-laws with us).we had an incredible stay! The property feels nicely tucked away but you’re never too far away from activities such as horse riding and pedalo riding on the near by lake!
24/09/2021Emma
Absolute perfection! Tranquil, being at one with nature, immaculate place
02/08/2021sarah
We had a wonderful time at The Burrow. The setting was perfect - we loved being surrounded by beautiful countryside, having sheep as our neighbours and the inquisitive ducks who visited us daily! Our children now would like ducks and a hot tub in our garden at home! The Burrow itself was stylish in design and was well equipped with everything we needed.
26/07/2021Sarah
Incredible stay. So peaceful and relaxing. Lovely to be surrounded by nature and to be secluded and private. The burrow was kitted out beautifully. The copper bath a highlight. Can’t wait to return.
23/07/2021Amy
Our stay at the burrow was truly delightful. The burrow was beautifully laid out, very clean and nothing was to much trouble for the owners to provide for us. All completely Covid safe too. The location was truly stunning. We felt completely relaxed knowing we could chill with a wine and the kids could be safe playing in the stream or hot tub. After the year we’ve had it was exactly what we needed. Highly recommend for couples, families or friends.
12/07/2021Kate
An excellent stay, with all that we needed; lovely walks up the valley, great selection of birds and animals seen from the Burrow window, lovely hot tub and places to sit out, with fantastic views of the hill sides, really quiet, out of the way but not isolated. Several places we wanted to visit were within an easy journey
05/07/2021Chris
Amazing place in a great location. We loved being surrounded by the sheeps and all their friends. Amy was a great host and went above and beyond to ensure we had the best stay. Would definately recommend!

From start to finish we we were able to fully relax at The Burrow. Gorgeous setting, well appointed accommodation and everything we could need for a worry free week.
31/05/2021Georgina
Absolutely top-notch! The cleanliness, attention to detail, facilities, and comfort only equaled by nature’s amazing soundtrack of sheep, lambs, birds, the wind in the trees, lambs and sheep (yes, I know they got a double mention!). The sheep were our only neighbours. And although they could be chatty, when we closed the doors and windows they didn’t disturb us at all. Eating at the solid wood dining table with the bi-fold doors open watching cheeky lambs by the brook, squirrels, woodpeckers, tree climbers, blue tits, sparrows, crows and red kites couldn’t be beaten. Relaxing in the spacious hot tub in the evening topped it all nicely. I mustn’t forget to mention the amazing brass bath (a real Witt & Berg!), log burner, fire pit or the Tassimo drinks machine! Plenty of walking to be done if you want to, or hop in the car and have a run out locally. We booked another visit before we left.
14/05/2021Graham
Lovely short break at the burrow, relaxing quiet with lots of little lambs looking in through the window! Beautiful view and lots of wildlife to watch. Lovely hot tub, and seating area outside. Inside was a high end finish and plenty big enough not to feel cramped. Lovely few days, we will be back!
10/05/2021Sarah
We had the most blissful time! The burrow was the perfect place for a long overdue holiday. Beautifully designed and furnished everything has been done to the highest standard. The bed was luxuriously comfy and the whole place had the feel of a 5 star hotel but with perfect seclusion! Our 1 year old loved being able to potter around the open plan area and straight into the garden which was well fenced off. We found some beautiful walks close by and in 5 days we never felt the need to go further than a 5 minute drive away. As suggested by Amy we got some fantastic local produce delivered to us by the little welsh kitchen. The hot tub was a real treat to enjoy after the baby went to bed. Due to Covid we didn’t get to meet our hosts but Amy was always on the end of a phone to answer any questions. We couldn’t have had a more perfect stay and are already planning when we can go back!
07/09/2020Fiona
It was wonderful. Nothing more I have to say.
20/07/2020Tom
This was the perfect wee bolthole for our young family over New Year. The owners were lovely, helpful hosts and the house itself was gorgeous, clean and spacious.
30/12/2019Lucy
We chose The Burrow to have a Christmas hide away. We both come from large families and the idea of having a quiet peacefully Christmas really appealed. The Burrow ticked all the boxes to fulfil this idea, and it didn’t disappoint. Buried amongst the rolling hills of Bleddfa Wales, surrounded my greenery, water, and wildlife it was more than just picture perfect. We arrived at The Burrow following a stunning journey through Shropshire and across the welsh border, and pulled up to the farm it is situated on and we instantly knew we couldn’t have picked a better stay.
23/12/2019Suzi
We really enjoyed our stay. It was really relaxing and the accommodation was lovely.
06/12/2019Phil
This was the annual father and son trip which proved a great base to enjoy the surroundings and activities whilst providing a great comfortable base. The hot tub was clean hot and a great welcome after a days mountain biking. Unfortunately due to the rain we were unable to benefit from the outdoor fire pit. The peace and quiet was beautiful, and the facilities outstanding. If being picky I thought the large shower head would provide a downpour as opposed to the drizzle it did. Likewise the copper free standing bath seemed to take an age to fill due to the lack of pressure. However, this didn’t dampen our stay and would highly recommend it. We look forward to another visit but maybe in the summer months.
11/10/2019Russell
We had an amazing time at the Burrow! We officially have the Burrow blues now we've come home... So many highlights but watching stars (you can actually see the milky way!) in the hot tub with a 'glass' of prosecco was AMAZING. Beautiful walks, stunning views. And really, just peace. Thanks so much for having us :-)
20/09/2019Hannah
After a nightmare drive up from Birmingham and getting slightly lost, we were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming Amy. The property itself is decorated beautifully and has pretty much everything you'd need. As soon as we walked in we decided we'd be back next year. Our son loved the sheep. We arrived back home yesterday and miss it already.
06/09/2019Waheeda
We stayed at The Burrow's for my fiancee's 30th in mid-August and had a lovely time. Amy had done a great job of decorating the place which made for a great welcome from the Welsh rain. The set up was fantastic, a hot tub ready to go, beautiful copper bath, cosy lounge with log burner and amazing surroundings. A lovely, quiet spot with only sheep around for company. Will come back whenever we get the chance.
09/08/2019Anthony
We had the most enjoyable few days at The Burrow! The house is perfectly designed for a family (we even squeezed 3 teenage boys in the smaller room) and is beautifully designed. We slept really well and enjoyed playing badminton on the lawn outside the house (we bought our stuff with us) relaxing in the hot tub and cooking our tea on the fire pit. Everything you need to self cater is there - and we really appreciated the welcome basket of lovely treats and the fresh flowers. We will definitely return!

It was great, exactly what we expected!

We booked a few days away as we've had a terrible couple of months and really just needed to get away and unwind. The burrow was the perfect place for this. We pulled up to the gate and loved the Burrow immediately. The quirky building with the bi-fold doors, huge comfy bed, free standing bath, hot tub.... it was amazing and the weather was kind to us which was an added bonus. Our 2 night stay in this completely private accommodation surround by fields full of sheep, listening to the sound of the stream and wildlife around us could not have been better, just what we needed.
05/07/2019laura
When we turned up at Dolassey after a long drive after work and not knowing exactly where we were going to be staying, we were simply blown away by the setting and stunning interiors of Dolassey. Nestled into the hillside and surrounded by sheep, it felt like the perfect retreat and being able to unwind in the copper bath tub was just amazing! The whole place felt so easy, spacious and had everything you needed, making us feel completely at ease - we were so sad to leave after one night but will be back!

Amazing stay in beautiful surroundings. The burrow was fully equipped with everything our family of 4 needed. A luxurious hideaway that overlooked fields and a stream that the kids loved splashing about in. Star gazing in the hot tub was a highlight but the daily visits from Beau the farm dog was the icing on the cake for the children. A wonderful retreat from reality that we hope to visit again very soon!

Great stay over New Years weekend. We had a lovely time and the place was beautiful.

This place has something for everyone! Suitable for families of all ages (we had a child and older in-laws with us).we had an incredible stay! The property feels nicely tucked away but you’re never too far away from activities such as horse riding and pedalo riding on the near by lake!

Absolute perfection! Tranquil, being at one with nature, immaculate place

Incredible stay. So peaceful and relaxing. Lovely to be surrounded by nature and to be secluded and private. The burrow was kitted out beautifully. The copper bath a highlight. Can’t wait to return.

It was wonderful. Nothing more I have to say.

This was the perfect wee bolthole for our young family over New Year. The owners were lovely, helpful hosts and the house itself was gorgeous, clean and spacious.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was really relaxing and the accommodation was lovely.
