Overview
This quiet part of north Wales is perfect for a few days of restorative, relaxing outdoor time and Ty Twt has been beautifully crafted to welcome you into it. There’s a rocking chair on the veranda where you can sip coffee in the morning and stargaze at night, a benches in your acre of private woodland which overlooks a steep sided valley to the river below, an outdoor cooking area with BBQ & wood-fired pizza oven (pizza dough mix in your welcome hamper) for al fresco meals and then, when the night draws in, the wood-burner to warm the cabin and add a rippling, homely glow. If you sit quietly, you might spot badgers and deer, hear owls in the woods and see swallows swooping round the cabin, which they used to nest in until the windows were installed. There’s a great collection of indoor and outdoor games, a guitar and all the comforts of home, (small kitchen and shower room), as well as the cosy nook of the mezzanine bed, just a ladder climb away.
The location and the pure charm of the cabin lends itself to any kind of stay, from a wintry escape full of long naps and woodsmoke, to a summer adventure into wild Snowdonia or the Clwydian Range, an AONB, both under 30 mins away, or a few days dangling your toes in the river. It’s not by chance that the cabin is so well suited to being really lived in, perfect for both a short weekend getaway or a longer stay. Your hosts, and the cabin’s creators, Catherine and Jenny have been adding to it with their art and carpentry for over a decade, and some of Jenny’s children have lived it in for long spells, along with the swallows. Their house is close by but completely out of sight, leaving you wonderfully secluded, but if you need them (or want to meet Daisy the stabyhoun) feel free to drop in. They’ve left you a great guide to the area, which is full of picturesque waterfalls, grand country gardens and lovely old towns. You can even have the unique experience of canoeing across an aqueduct, at Pontcysyllte. There are walks right from the door as well as the famous hikes and expansive wilderness of Snowdonia to explore, but you might just want to wander the woods, keep an eye out for the wildlife and disconnect for a while.

Meet Catherine and Jenny
Catherine and Jenny gave up their jobs as a health visitor and a third sector manager 7 and 13 years ago, to help care for elderly relatives, and to set up a creative business. Catherine now works as a textile artist and Jenny as a picture framer, woodworker and builder/landscaper; they now run creative workshops and music sessions which you are welcome to join. They are continuing to create the idyll that is their home and business. Jenny has lived at Felin Isa (formerly a flour and then a woollen mill) for 41 years and Catherine for 26 years. Ty Twt has evolved over the past 16 years. The traditional oak pegged mortice and tenon frame, reed thatched roof, groundworks and utilities were completed by local craftsmen, family and friends. The cabin has been a labour of love, with Jenny and Catherine honing their building, carpentry and textile skills along the way, using locally sourced, new and recycled materials wherever possible. You'll see a reused church window and will struggle to spot which window is re-fashioned from a child's bunk bed.
It was originally built as an addition to the family home – Jenny and Catherine and various of Jenny’s children all having at some point lived in it – but they decided it was too wonderful to keep for themselves, so have recently added a bathroom and a hall, and created a beautiful, quirky, handmade and comfortable space in order to enable others to share the experience
Wildlife & the environment
They often have buzzards, sparrowhawks and kites circling overhead, and in the summer many swallows who, prior to the windows being glazed, made Ty Twt their home. At night, owls can often be heard calling to each other from the nearby trees. Many birds enjoy the surroundings at Ty Twt – regular visitors include finches, blue, great and long-tailed tits, tree creepers, robins, wrens, blackbirds, mistle thrushes, lesser spotted woodpeckers, snipe, pigeons, dunnocks, crows, jays, magpies, redstarts, even herring gulls venturing inland, and, on the river, herons, mallards, dippers, grebes and on one occasion, a muscovy duck! On the rarest of occasions they still hear the cuckoo.
The wood is home to badgers, with many a new sett being dug each year and this year they have had a number of fallow deer visiting – a recent spectacle was two stags with locked antlers! The pipistrelle bats that live in one of their outbuildings can also be seen flying in the evenings.

Beautiful cottage, lovely and quirky . Great artwork and lovely setting with a beautiful woodland and river nearby. Pizza oven was a bonus and having a garden area for the dogs to wander in

It's truly the most hidden away gorgeous little cabin. We loved how easy it was to get to Snowdonia, the coast and also some of the cultural bits of Conwy etc and enjoyed how warm (actual heating alongside logburner!) and how details like lots of games and books have really been thought of.

Peaceful, quiet, nature, tranquil, creative are just a few words to say about Ty Twt it was so relaxing to stay at Ty Twt all the little things made it so much better to stay there and it's not far from alot of attractions or nature walks. Everything we needed for our stay in north Wales.
23/09/2024Vicky
We had a fantastic 4 nights at Ty Twt, with our days spent exploring the local walks, heading north up to Conwy beach and town, and west into the Eryri National Park. The cabin was super cosy and homely, with all of the facilities you need to feel at home including a very thoughtful welcome hamper, comfy bed, fridge, induction hob, microwave oven, wood burner, plumbed in toilet and running water with nice hot shower, mud-daddy for dog washing, and a dog towel. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the space, or equally use as a base to explore north Wales! The porch, and the outdoor seating/cooking area (sitooterie!) is fantastic, with BBQ and pizza oven. Everything (both outside and in!) has a nice little note to go with it to help you. The little dog-friendly touches really made our dogs feel comfortable and relaxed in the space. Overall a super memorable few days, the only regret is not being able to stay for much much longer.

We had a wonderful stay at Ty Twt! An ideal location to get around North Wales and be in beautiful nature with lots of luxuries of home. This property didn’t disappoint and really was a magical place to visit.
16/02/2024N
Absolutely amazing! Everything about the beautiful little cottage was just perfect. Was approx 5 miles from main road and was beautifully situated on a quiet country lane with own parking space. Owners live just down the lane and we’re easy to contact if needed. Everything and we mean everything was perfect! The setting, the way it was furnished, lit, heated and our welcome hamper was brilliant and so well thought out. Everything provided for lighting fires, pizza oven and even dough to make your own! We were snug as bugs in rugs for sure

After a hectic autumn where work meant we were more than apart with work at different part of the country, than together, we wanted a quiet get away for the two of us to reconnect and spend some quality cozy time together. And Ty Twt delivered calmness and coziness in buckets. We enjoyed reading by the wood burner, sharing a bottle of wine by the wood burner, listening to the radio by the wood burner and of course snoozing by the wood burner. Went on a long circular walk on Boxing Day when the rain finally gave way to dry weather and enjoyed the vast views clean air. Then back to Ty Twt for more wood burner snuggles. Our hosts were welcoming and informative in our communication, and the hamper left with homemade and local treats was quickly emptied. We'd love to stay again, the perfect place for us to rest, restore and find new enery.
24/12/2023Pete
We spent a magical four nights at Ty Twt, enjoying the peace of the valley, the fire and of course the eclectic cabin design!
04/12/2023Becky
We had a really lovely time here. Ty Twt is absolutely beautiful — I can't even call it a home away from home because it is much nicer than my home! Great shower, comfy bed, total darkness at night. We came without a car and had a station pick-up from the hosts and everything worked very smoothly with great communication. If you don't drive, there are plenty of easy local walks along the bottom of the valley or slightly more challenging up to the top. We brought all our food with us for the weekend so having a welcome basket and essentials for tea and coffee was a very kind and necessary top-up. Absolutely loved our time here!
22/09/2023Alice
From the minute we pulled up at the gate we were blown away by the idyllic setting of Ty Twt. The beautiful country lodge was just what we hoped for and more, we loved all the attention to detail and the very kind food hamper which was especially delightful after a long journey. We had quite an adventurous weekend planned so being able to return to the relaxing setting of Ty Twt after a busy day was a perfect little haven. The undisturbed nature of Ty Twt definitely ticked all our boxes!
15/09/2023Darren & Abi

Just wonderful. A beautiful house and private - a really nice change that we were left alone in our own space. The house itself was something totally different. Also a fantastic welcome tray of gifts: bread, cheese, chocolates, sloe gin, etc.
19/06/2023Tony

Just what we were hoping for. Beautiful but compact with everything we needed in a lovely location. Very interesting building with as much space as we required. Very quiet and peaceful.

Ty Twt was a beautiful place to stay - both the cabin and the surroundings. The cabin had everything we needed and was full of lovely touches - slippers to use, blankets for outside, a welcome hamper, pretty fairy lights, a good selection of boardgames, etc. The hosts’ communication was very good and they were on hand to assist if required.

We have nothing but praise for this beautiful little cabin. It is spotlessly clean and has everything you need to make your stay home from home. It is warm & cosy, well looked after and you can tell that it is much loved by the owners. We spent four very happy nights here, sitting on the porch, woodburner going, drinking red wine & gazing out over the hills, listening to the owls in the distance. We wouldn't hesitate to return here.

The most idyllic spot to totally switch off and unwind. With it's own private woodland and fabulous surrounding countryside we were able to walk, read, kick back in the garden and totally chill. With a pizza oven and firepit we stayed out eating, drinking and star watching despite the nighttime nip in the air. The attention to detail in the cabin was perfect and the owners had thought of everything - would highly recommend.

We had a lovely stay at Ty Twt. It's in a wonderful location, easy to find and drive to, and surrounded by tranquil countryside. The accomodation is perfect for two and has a beautiful garden with cooking facilities. We were able to have a mix of days out and eating out and staying in and around the cabin. We would recommend staying here!

We had an incredible stay at Ty Twt. The cabin is so idyllic and peaceful. It is the perfect little space to just chill out, which is exactly what we did. Just reading books and eating a lot of homemade pizza using the outdoor oven! An absolute dream!
24/06/2022Emma
Gorgeous little cabin surrounded by hill side, we had a very peaceful stay and enjoyed making pizzas in the pizza oven. The cabin itself was very cosy and super clean. It was amazing to wake up just hearing the bird sing. We enjoyed a wall around the local area, we loved being secluded and had a relaxing weekend laying back in the deck chairs.

Very welcoming from our hosts Cath & Jenny and a beautiful, peaceful place to relax.

Beautiful location and set up. We loved everything, from the cabin, the thoughtful touches left by the host, the garden, the pizza oven, the views. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Charming cabin, had everything we needed and more, peaceful retreat. Our hosts were lovely.

Second time at Ty Twt and loved it just as much. Cute, stylish, rustic, rural heaven. The birds were tweeting, the air was fresh, and the fires kept us cosy - log burning stove, and bbq, and fire pit and pizza oven. Making fire is great! Everything you could need was to hand. The absence of plastic tat was a delight. Spotlessly clean and oh so stylish. An incredibly comfy bed up in the ‘loft’. Pure peace. Dont bother with too many day trips or pub visits - at the cabin is where you want to be. Love it.
29/04/2022Amanda
We had the most amazing time at Ty Twt. It was faultless. Spotlessly clean and beautifully put together. The cabin was homely and warm. The bathroom was amazing - the shower was hot and powerful. We loved being able to cook ourselves on the little hob. The pizza oven was magical and a real highlight of our stay. The surroundings with the beautiful blossoms were also amazing.
25/04/2022Bronwyn
TyTwt has to be one of the best cabin we have stayed in. It it well laid out with everything you need. Sit out on the veranda or on the grass. highly recommended and will return
25/03/2022STUART
We had a wonderful stay. The timber frame house is utterly charming with wood burner for cosy evenings by the fire, great books, fab hosts, outdoor pizza oven which you can use all year round if you are brave enough - we did in March. All the bits and bobs you need for a cosy and well equipped stay. We hope to return!
14/03/2022Elise
It was wonderful, amazing little house with everything you need. It ensures pure relaxation.

Me, my wife and our dog had a wonderful three night stay at Ty Twt. The cabin had everything we needed in a beautiful location and our hosts had left us a lovely basket full of essentials which was really appreciated. This was the first holiday we’d been on for a while and it was so good to be able to slow down, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
25/02/2022Stephen
Absolutely loved our stay at Ty Twt. Although the weather was chaos (storm Eunice) it was so cosy in the cabin we weren't too bothered and it didn't ruin our holiday.
18/02/2022Francesca
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Ty Twt. The attention to detail and careful thought that Catherine and Jenny have clearly put into this fairytale of a house mean it is also practical, very comfortable and with all the mod cons you'd expect.

Wonderful - tucked away in a remote valley but close to Snowdon.

Absolutely divine! Everything we needed and so peaceful!

Ty Twt is such a beautiful little cabin set in the most incredible countryside. We thought the pictures on the website looked lovely, but it was even more pretty thana we expected. The outdoor pizza oven, the fire, even everything we needed for our dog! Everything has been so carefully thought out. So wonderful to be able to sit on the veranda and hear nothing but birdsong and the river. We spent our days relaxing, walking, reading and stoking the fire! Absolutely perfect. We were planning our next stay before we'd left.
23/10/2021Suzanne
It was amazing! The cabin and area was beautiful. The host was friendly and helpful. Plenty of places to visit that is close to the cabin.

We had such an amazing time at Ty Twt. Nestled in a Welsh valley, it was truly a peaceful retreat. The facilities were excellent and absolutely everything had been considered by the hosts. Our only regret was... not booking a longer stay!
21/08/2021George
Spent 4 nights here with my partner. The setting was beautiful and the accommodation perfect for our needs. Plenty of lovely places to visit nearby. The welcome hamper was a great touch and made us feel very welcome. Check in and communication with the host was excellent.
29/07/2021Kimara
Extremely pleasant stay, loved the remote location and the cosy cabin!
26/07/2021George
Ty Twt was honestly amazing, we just had the best time! The outdoor cooking area was an absolute highlight for us and we were lucky with the weather so spent most of our time in the lovely garden when we were not exploring the local area. When it got darker, we utilised the lovely wood-burner. It was a perfect stay and the hosts were amazing!
22/07/2021Beth
This was chosen for the location as it’s good for visiting areas close by in wales also the peace and quiet with stunning views. The house itself is full of character, so beautiful.
23/06/2021Christina
We came to the Lilliput Chapel, with her trinkets of duck egg blue. We lazed in her pink striped deck chairs, we were soothed by her painted view. We watched as the buzzards whirled and cried, and the black-cloaked crows gave chase. We breathed in the sweet buttered meadows, that hug this healing place. We listened to the song of the tumbling river, where clouds of ephemeral mayflies dance, and jewelled blue/green damsels, flutter and swirl and prance. We sat by the dancing orange flames, that lit the blue velvet night, and watched the fluttering, skittering bats, in silent starlit flight. We slept the sleep of souls at peace, the soft wind stroking our face. We left with minds cleared and calmed, by this magical, fairy tale place.
13/06/2021Angela
We had a fantastic stay at Ty Twt. Everything was perfectly prepared and all facilities were great. The location is beautiful and very quiet without being too far from amenities.

We absolutely loved the lodge and the location, so private and peaceful. Me, my husband and our springer could have stayed forever!
30/05/2021Suzanne
Had a wonderful time staying here for a few days and the lovely ladies who own it couldn't do enough for us. I highly recommend this lovely enchanting place to stay, not only is the scenery and setting absolutely beautiful, but the accommodation is absolutely superb. It's quirky and magical but also extremely comfortable. The shower was amazing and the bed and bedding so cosy. There are lovely walks all around the area but we loved just sitting outside and listening to the birds.

We absolutely loved our stay! The owners made us feel very welcome. The cabin, garden and outdoor dining area were beautifully presented. The cabin was so cosy and quaint. We loved the secluded location, tucked away in nature but also close to Snowdonia. We enjoyed having our morning coffee sat on the porch watching the cows and listening to the birds in the blossom tree, then sitting by the fire in the evenings after a days hike. Our dog loved the enclosed garden attached. We could’ve stayed there forever!

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect, unique and picturesque place to spend a couple of days away in! The hut had everything we needed in such a cute little space and the attention to detail was lovely. The river running by the hut added peaceful sound effects to what was already the most relaxing break! The hosts couldn’t be more accommodating and friendly. Absolutely perfect in every way!
23/08/2020Rebecca
Ty twt is a beautiful, charming place to escape with a wonderful view to relax and enjoy and river walks on the doorstep. The owners are kind, thoughtful and have really responded to the current situation and taken every measure to safeguard their visitors.

Just what the doctor ordered! What a little haven Ty Twt is. Crafted with such skill, love and beauty - felt a real privilege to have the opportunity to stay. Catch and Jenny we’re the perfect hosts, every detail attended to with such care and thought. The pizza oven was a delight, the process provided some light entertainment for the evening..! Thank you again, it was the perfect weekend to celebrate.

We celebrated our 1st Wedding Anniversary recently at Ty Twt and it was amazing. The cottage was immaculate and had everything that we needed for our stay - including a pizza mix And instructions for the PizzaOven which worked a treat! The bed was super comfy and the shower lovely and powerful. The location was great for visiting different parts of the area. The outdoor kitchen area and fire pit were great and well used by us. We were able to relax and listen to the river as we watched for wildlife - a herd of deer running across the hills being the highlight! We would highly recommend a stay at this peaceful getaway!

We arrived in the pitch black but could tell right away this place was special. It was pristine, stylishly decorated and the cosiest place you could imagine. Everything you needed was thought of and we felt right as home instantly. It is the perfect place if you want serious peace & quiet and is in easy distance, by car, of shops and restaurants. We already want to go back!

Me and my partner stayed at Ty Twt for two nights in December for a little get away from our daily life and couldn’t be more happy with the choice we took. It was so wonderful and peaceful and the accommodation was better than I could imagine. It was literally like home away from home!
02/12/2019Darren
Catherine and Jenny have created a place nothing short of magical at Ty Twt and the love and care that has gone into its build is staggering, before even stepping inside the cabin! The cabin feels completely isolated and you feel at home and cosy from the very off. You can snuggle up by the log burner, sit on the veranda on the rocking chair and listen to the river or explore the acre of woodland just down your own private woodland path. I can't recommend this place enough - the perfect place to go and feel totally relaxed, anytime of the year!

We had a wonderful time. The cabin was gorgeous and spacious. One of the best places we have stayed.

Beautiful cottage, lovely and quirky . Great artwork and lovely setting with a beautiful woodland and river nearby. Pizza oven was a bonus and having a garden area for the dogs to wander in
07/03/2025Zoe
It's truly the most hidden away gorgeous little cabin. We loved how easy it was to get to Snowdonia, the coast and also some of the cultural bits of Conwy etc and enjoyed how warm (actual heating alongside logburner!) and how details like lots of games and books have really been thought of.
24/02/2025Elena

We spent a magical four nights at Ty Twt, enjoying the peace of the valley, the fire and of course the eclectic cabin design!

Just wonderful. A beautiful house and private - a really nice change that we were left alone in our own space. The house itself was something totally different. Also a fantastic welcome tray of gifts: bread, cheese, chocolates, sloe gin, etc.

Ty Twt was a beautiful place to stay - both the cabin and the surroundings.
