Overview
A soak on the hillside overlooking miles of Shropshire with buzzards or the clear night skies hanging above, sinks you blissfully into your rustic retreat. Nestling in a small valley, surrounded by hills and woodland, Aether’s Tilt offers privacy and seclusion, with only the local sheep and wildlife looking on. The cabin is clad in Elm and Oak, hand-built with great affection and attention to detail with the wooden hot tub the perfect spot to immerse yourself in your surroundings.
Inside, Aether’s Tilt provides guests with a totally different experience. Its expressive internal decor is based upon a mix of steampunk and rural industry with brass light fittings, patterned linen and a crazily cogged mirror. But the style is by no means in place of the substance. The huge bed is sigh-inducingly comfortable, the kitchen and bathroom are beautifully fitted and there’s even an iPad with WiFi and underfloor heating. A stay here can be a rural adventure of muddy hikes and fire bowls, a cosy escape of hot tub soaks and afternoon movies or, as would seem most fitting for a steampunk-inspired cabin, some magical fusion of both.

Meet Phil & Avril
Phil and Avril moved to Shropshire in 2014 after spending over thirty years working hard and looking for that special secluded cottage in the country...
After many years in Building Restoration Phil now runs 'Offa’s Pitch Glamping’. Avril works in the explosives industry, concentrating mainly on pyrotechnics about which she is also very passionate!
They've also worked together within the events and hospitality business as Avril is often involved in major displays and fireworks competitions. Now they've finally found the right place to carry out their dream of having a glamping business and have put all their ideas and passion into it.
Wildlife & Environment
In the hamlet of Mardu there is little through traffic and the wildlife remains relatively undisturbed. With some forethought, the opportunity to see nervous creatures such as Fallow and Roe deer particularly around Blakeridge Wood is much higher than the average.
You’ll see all the birds that you might expect and some that are becoming a rare sight. Buzzards are a common sight in the skies above and mixed flocks of Redpolls and Linnets are seen regularly around the farmlands in late autumn and winter.
At the bird feeders you’ll always find nuthatches, woodpeckers, Blue, Great, Long Tailed and Marsh Tits. The main summer visitors are Housemartins and there are always as many as 8-10 pairs nesting under the eaves - they group together with the fledglings in the early mornings and evenings for a dramatic aerial display!
Various species of owl also inhabit the locality and you’ll often hear them from early evening and late into the night. If you're visiting in September or October you'll get a chance to see badgers digging up the grass, looking for cranefly grubs.

We had a lovely stay at Aether’s Tilt. It was a memorable experience in the beautiful Shropshire countryside. The cabin itself was everything we needed and Phil & Avril are such wonderful people! Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

We had a fantastic, relaxing break. We would definitely recommend. One of our best weekend breaks away. Would definitely book again. Great host, great setting and amazing accommodation.
26/04/2024Kelvin
We booked Aerher’s Tilt as a New Year’s getaway after the busyness of Christmas and it was just what we hoped for. The location was beautiful, nestled in the Shropshire countryside, the cabin was cosy and had everything we needed and the owners Phil and Avril were very helpful. The wood fires hot tub was a treat and even in the rain, allowed us to be close to nature while we relaxed.
31/12/2023Caroline
We loved our weekend at Aether's Tilt - it was just as described, a cosy cabin in beautiful scenery and we were lucky to have a clear night to admire the stars!
15/09/2023Jessica
The weekend was booked for a birthday treat and what a treat it was. The accommodation was fantastic. We were met by Philip the owner, who ran us through everything that we needed to know about the accommodation to make the most of our weekend. He even had the hot tub up and running and ready for us to use on our arrival. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the steam punk decor was greatly appreciated by my wife and I. Aether's TIlt had everything that we needed for the weekend; cooking utensils, towels, toiletries etc. We really loved the location as it was so peaceful and quiet. We opted for the use of the hot tube which was easy to use and very much enjoyed. We will definitely be returning the Aether's Tilt.

We absolutely loved our stay here. This was the 3rd Canopy and Stars booking we had made and by far our favourite. The hosts are lovely and so interesting to talk to. Lots of lovely villages nearby. And the cabin itself is incredible. Decorated beautifully and has incredible views.
02/06/2023Kathryn
We enjoyed a very happy relaxing weekend in the beautifully sited Aethers Tilt. The accommodation itself was very comfortable, clean and welcoming, looking directly on to sheep fields and glorious countryside. The log fired hot tub was perfect after a days walking and stayed warm well into the evening when we sat in again to admire the millions of twinkling stars above.

We had a lovely two night stay taking in the beautiful Shropshire hills and peaceful surroundings. Our host assisted us at any time we needed him and we felt comfortable and looked after. The location was beautiful. Extremely comfortable lodge which included all the kitchen equipment we needed. It was thoroughly clean, spotless even. The games and novels provided were a lovely touch. The iPad also was appreciated during the late afternoon, cosy watching a film during the downpour- expected at this time of year in the uk! The bathroom was lovely, including the roomy shower and towels provided. The decor was very unique which we both loved. The underfloor heating was a lovely comfortable temperature at 20 degrees. We managed one dip in the hot tub, the weather permitted us otherwise! A brilliant experience for us both. Overall a lovely stay, really relaxing and just what we needed.
21/03/2023Samantha
We had a lovely time at this very beautiful little unit set in a picturesque location beside a small stream and perfectly positioned for the lazy afternoon sun to work it's magic. Phil was a great host preparing the hot tub for our arrival with a chilled bottle of wine in the fridge, very nice indeed. Stargazing is just wonderful from here, it's dark, quiet, and magical. The accommodation is first class and very stylish with everything you could possibly need.
25/02/2022Wayne
We spent 3 amazing nights in the cabin. Great time, amazing host, perfect stay matching our criteria.

I don’t quite know where to begin! We were looking for peace, quiet, a break from life and all of its challenges and boy did we find it here! We had all the home comforts in our gorgeous cabin and the added luxury of the hot tub! It was perfect for coming back from exploring the outstandingly beautiful country side and local attractions.
27/08/2021Jodie
Such a beautiful place to stay, so peaceful and tranquil. The hot tub is lovely and the owners are very helpful! The cabin it’s self was really clean and beautifully presented.
19/07/2021Annabel
We had a lovely time.

What a wonderful 4 night break we experienced at Aether's Tilt last week. Phil and Avril provided a really well thought out Glamping Experience giving us everything we could ask for. Set in a picturesque setting, surrounded by rolling green fields and just the local sheep for neighbours, we made ample use of the wood burning Hot Tub which was such a treat to wind down and completely switch off. The Shepherds Hut itself was super comfortable, well designed and delightfully decorated in it's nod to Steam Punk Style. The bathroom is a good size for the accommodation and the kitchen very well equipped, meaning we could easily self cater for the times we didn't eat out. Although eat out you must as we picked several of the local pubs that Phil and Avril recommended in their suggested places to visit and we very pleased with all three we chose. We did a lovely walk into Clun, about a 3 hour round trip over valleys, through fields, and if you're ok with a few hills to climb and plenty of styles to amble over, you'll enjoy stunning views well worth the effort. Thank you Phil and Avril, your hospitality and warm welcome from booking to departure was excellent, highly recommended!
24/05/2021Jenni
It’s the most perfect peaceful place so quiet and surrounded by sheep , lambs and wildlife floating in a hot tub watching the stars listening to nature beautiful.
03/05/2021Jane
We stayed here over the bank holiday & loved it, it is a beautiful secluded hut but done with class. It was spacious & beautifully decorated, the hot tub was an added bonus. Bed was so comfy we had the best sleep ever.
01/05/2021Geeta
I originally booked this as a surprise for my wife’s 50th Birthday. Unfortunately this was postponed due to Covid restrictions. This was dealt with extremely well by the team at Canopy and Stars and a new date was agreed. The accommodation was superb, everything had been thought through, it was spotless and the owners could not have been more accommodating whilst at the same time respecting our privacy. We were blessed with fantastic weather in a beautiful location surrounded by nature. All in all, gorgeous accommodation in a beautiful part of England.
23/04/2021Dave
It was perfect exactly as described if not better. Peaceful bliss
04/11/2020Richard
Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The hosts, Philip and Avril couldn’t have been more welcoming and the accommodation was beautiful. Everything was of a high quality and all the details had been thought about. The setting was gorgeous and tranquil and the whole stay provided the rest and relaxation we needed. The hot tub and fire pit really added to the experience and thd welcome wine and chocolate was a lovely touch. We would have loved to have booked a longer stay and plan to return.
08/09/2020Louise
Wonderful place to stay, Away from the madness of daily life. The Tilt is wonderfully designed, really couldn’t want or need anything.
06/03/2020Cathie
My boyfriend and I had an amazing time in the cute little shepherds hut! We absolutely loved the hot tub and it was ready for us to use on arrival. Phil was really easy to communicate with and easy to get a hold of if we needed anything. There were hills and trails right out the door which made it great for exploring. Would definitely recommend a stay here!
31/01/2020Katelyn
Just perfect - very helpful host with a hut that had all the little touches - couldn't fault it
17/01/2020David
Had such a lovely stay at Aether’s Tilt, it’s even better than the pictures and the whole stay exceeded our expectations. Setting is beautiful, with a bubbling stream and I’ve not seen stars so clearly anywhere in the UK. The hot tub is dreamy and you feel very isolated/private. Phil is a perfect host, really friendly and on hand if needed. We will definitely return.
28/12/2019Charlotte
Wonderful. Phillip was so welcoming and helpful and the cabin was luxurious and cosy with every need catered for. Woke at 6am to watch shooting stars and a fantastic night sky- best I’ve seen in uk! Views wonderful and Norwegian hot tub an amazing experience. We had Christmas brunch outside and cooked Xmas dinner on the firepit! Fabulous memories made thank you Phillip :) xxx
23/12/2019Emmie
We had a great time at Aether’s tilt! Phil was great and really welcoming. The hot tub was prepped for us on arrival. It’s a great place to go and relax and see some country life! Would really recommend.
18/10/2019Lewis
The shepherds hut is like a glam flat taken out of London plopped into the country side. It has all the mod cons and comfiness you could want from a relaxing weekend away. The wood fire hot tub smells amazing and is super relaxing, the surrounding sheep were so sweet and ilkey their little cat was just adorable!
06/09/2019Clare
My wife Sarah and I booked a 3 night stay at Aethers Tilt to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. To say we had the most amazing, relaxing break would be a huge understatement. From the simply stunning, secluded setting and luxurious hot tub, to the beautifully decorated interior, Phil and Avril have ensured we will remember this holiday for the rest of our lives. We simply cannot thank them enough for the memories they have given us. We were so relieved that their gorgeous cat Elkie was found too, the icing on the cake. We will be back !!!
21/08/2019Trevor
We had an amazing time in a really secluded spot, in a well-equipped and beautiful hut - exactly what we were looking for.
15/08/2019Chris
A Shepherds hut with wood fired hot tub for 2. Beautiful rural location. Totally private. Most comfortable ever.
12/08/2019Jill
Nothing short of perfection, Shepard’s hut is immaculate and extremely comfortable with everything you could need. If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind then I would highly recommend a stay here
25/07/2019Joe
Aether's Tilt was absolutely wonderful. It really is in the middle of nowhere, which is part of the appeal. Sitting outside in the hot tub while the barbecue was going and the Sun was setting was a surreal experience. We were there for 2 nights and we actually never left the property because it was that good. The inside of the 'Shepard's Hut' was really cool and had a subtle but quirky steampunk style theme. Everything was high spec and the bed was super comfy. Philip (the owner) was really friendly and helpful. He gave us a very warm welcome and showed us how to use and do everything (hot tub, shower, BBQ etc.) when we arrived, so that we could get to relaxing ASAP.
15/07/2019Zayd
Our stay at Aether’s Tilt was just what we needed, lovely, welcoming hosts, a unique, secluded and well presented property in a beautiful location with plenty to go and see in the local area. Weather (typically in the UK) was all over the place, rain, wind, sun and even snow but it didn’t dampen our spirits, the shepherds hut was a perfect cosy place to chill out and escape the stormy weather outside. Would highly recommend a visit.
15/03/2019Matt
What an amazing place this is to stay. From the rolling Shropshire countryside you drive e down into the valley where you are met by the gorgeous site of 2 wonderfully appointed glamping huts. We had the shepherd hut which Phil showed us round. It was very well and luxuriously laid out. When left to your own devices after the very well given guide to your hut.we started to relax in the glorious valley that lays out before you. When the sun went down, we opened a lovely bottle of supplied by Phil and immersed ourselves in the wood fired hot-tub to gaze at the dark night sky above with a unspoilt view. When the night was done it was off to bed on the very comfy and warm bed. Don't worry about getting cold or not being comfortable in a hut. It's not an average hut but any stretch. When you wake you find all the mod cons you need to enjoy a few days here in this gorgeous place. This was a truly wonderful stay and can only recommend it to anyone who fancies something a bit different from the norm. Enjoy.
20/02/2019Darren
We had a great stay and the hut was well over and beyond expectations, it was very peaceful, and lovely location, extremely well presented, the owner was very helpful and after getting us sorted left us to enjoy in peace and quiet, we would certainly stay again and recommend to anyone, thanks.
12/10/2018Rob
We had the best time - the cabin was fantastic - a beautiful setting, gorgoeus interior and really well kitted out - and the hot tub is the icing on the cake. It has everything you need and he locality is stunning and great for beautiful walks - be it short or long.
05/10/2018Paolo
Excellent directions. Surroundings beautiful. Cabin stunning. Immaculate, clean and exceeded our expectations. Everything was perfect. Just what we hoped for. So peaceful. Quality of cabin and decor etc amazing. Hot tub wonderful and so easy to use. We had a glorious time. The best
04/09/2018Alison
It was fabulous. Everything had been carefully thought through by Phil and April. Loved the hot tub, watching the moon rising and just chilling. A very quiet and peaceful setting to see nature at its best.
29/07/2018Kathryn
Amazing accommodation. Attention to detail fantastic and everything is thoroughly thought out.
06/07/2018Sion
It was for our Mini-moon celebration. We wanted somewhere to completely relax and be surrounded by countryside. This place is amazing, location is fab, very remote and rural surrounded by hills and sheep :) the hot tub is a great extra, meaning you can spend time looking at the clouds with a glass of bubbly in your hand. The host Phil is really great, anything we needed we just asked. It was nice to chat to him and he was genuinely interested in us. We did visit nearby villages Clun and Bishops Castle, both lovely quaint places, my Husband liked the microbrewery at BC! All in all a wonderful stay just a little shame about the flies but this is expected in the country when warm and the hosts have put up a fly screen at the doors and provide a fly swat!
22/06/2018Lucia
wonderful get away

Had a great time at Aether's Tilt. Its a great place to stay and well fit out. Everything we needed to make the most of our weekend. Hosts were great at communicating in the build up and very helpful throughout our stay! Bring your star map for a gret view from the hot tub. Lovely time, would reccomend highly.
08/06/2018Tim
A truly special little find . Very peaceful location. But decked out to a high spec, the hot tub is brilliant and managing the hot tub fire and fire pit is every boys dream . Lots of good local pubs and places to visit. Phil the owner is very helpful and a genuine nice bloke .. Elkie the cat is a lovely optional companion .. a visit here will not disappoint ..
23/05/2018Adam
We had a great time at Aether’s Tilt. It’s in a beautiful, quiet location and we spent most of our mornings and evenings just enjoying the view from the hot tub or sitting round the fire. The decor in the hut is amazing; it’s clear that Phil and Avril have a real attention to detail. Overall we had a fantastic break.
11/05/2018Rebecca
The stay was idyllic and exactly what we needed after the stresses of a wedding. The location was perfect and so peaceful, the cabin itself was well equip and had everything we needed and the hot tub was sssooo nice in the evenings when it had got a little colder.
07/05/2018Robert
We had a fantastic stay, the accommodation and facilities exceeded our expectations, the offering was of a very high standard.
27/04/2018Ashley
Our first stay at a c&s collection and we choose Aethers Tilt and what an amazing place it is. Our stay was lovely. The location was incredible being in the middle of nowhere but only 5 mins to the local pub where everyone was so friendly. The hot tub was so beautiful and on an evening looking up to the stars. Lots of things to do and go and explore. Phil the host was so kind and couldn’t do enough for us. Such a nice and relaxing time away. The accommodation was out of this world with so much detail into everything.
16/04/2018Vicky
We had a wonderful time at Aether's Tilt. Phil couldn't have done any more to make us feel welcome. Fantastic personal touches such as homemade chocolate truffles on the side, and a bottle of wine cooling in the fridge. The hot tub was excellent, especially in the snow! Would love to come back and maybe try out Offa's Pitch next time!
27/12/2017Laura
Aethers Tilt is a fantastic secluded getaway and truly out of this world. The smallest details have been covered to make this place a real special find. The interior design is phenomonial with every detail accounted for , immediately upon entering you feel at home. Phil (the host ) made our stay exceptionally comfortable ensuring we had all that we needed (and more) and was most accomodating. The Norwegian hot tub was out of this world and by far the highlight was star gazing in a nice 40degree tub , absolute silence just taking in the beauty of the surroundings. The service provided here was great and they really do go beyond providing you with the minimums which was a pleasant surprise. Me and my partner came here for a quick getaway and both were blown away with how perfect this place is. The whole package is exceptional from the hosts , accomodation , amenities, hot tub. A true hidden gem worth expereincing!

We're super excited to be adding Phil and Avril's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Offa's Pitch should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!

We booked last minute due to a change of plans, but I can only say, wow! The hut is beautiful and the spec so good. The scenery is outstanding and plenty of walks in the area. The hosts were very responsive and everything was catered for. The nearest town, Clun, 3 miles away is vibrant and a good centre with excellent pubs for food. Navigating the narrow lanes was fun!!

We loved our weekend at Aether's Tilt - it was just as described, a cosy cabin in beautiful scenery and we were lucky to have a clear night to admire the stars!

We stayed here over the bank holiday & loved it, it is a beautiful secluded hut but done with class. It was spacious & beautifully decorated, the hot tub was an added bonus. Bed was so comfy we had the best sleep ever.

Just perfect - very helpful host with a hut that had all the little touches - couldn't fault it

We had a great time at Aether’s tilt! Phil was great and really welcoming. The hot tub was prepped for us on arrival. It’s a great place to go and relax and see some country life! Would really recommend.

We had an amazing time in a really secluded spot, in a well-equipped and beautiful hut - exactly what we were looking for.

A Shepherds hut with wood fired hot tub for 2. Beautiful rural location. Totally private. Most comfortable ever.

Nothing short of perfection, Shepard’s hut is immaculate and extremely comfortable with everything you could need. If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind then I would highly recommend a stay here

Enjoy.

We had a great stay and the hut was well over and beyond expectations, it was very peaceful, and lovely location, extremely well presented, the owner was very helpful and after getting us sorted left us to enjoy in peace and quiet, we would certainly stay again and recommend to anyone, thanks.

It was fabulous. Everything had been carefully thought through by Phil and April. Loved the hot tub, watching the moon rising and just chilling. A very quiet and peaceful setting to see nature at its best.

The stay was idyllic and exactly what we needed after the stresses of a wedding. The location was perfect and so peaceful, the cabin itself was well equip and had everything we needed and the hot tub was sssooo nice in the evenings when it had got a little colder.
