Overview
Just 11 miles away from Hereford, you’ll find Lane End at beautiful Pontypinna Hideaways estate. Try to keep your jaw attached when you enter, as you might catch it on a rug when you see the views from the bifold doors that stretch the length of the cabin. Lane end is one of three spaces at Pontypinna, and whilst you might spot another traveller exploring the locale, there’s there's plenty of privacy at your space. Head out onto the deck in the morning fore your breakfast, or pop out for an afternoon crafting smoky -delights on the BBQ. There’s plenty to lose yourself in at this cabin.
You’re right on the Anglo-Welsh border at Pontypinna, and it means you’re never far from an adventure. Whilst you might pop over to Hereford on the way there, or back, there’s too much in the countryside to ignore. Head over to Hay-on-Wye for a tour of the many bookshops, incredible eateries or even some fun on the river – hiring canoes or kayaks for a tour of the River Wye. Close to Hay, there’s The Cat’s Back, a great hill climb to look over the incredible scenery of the locale, or you could go a little more hardcore, and take on the Black Mountains, ten miles away, which you can even see from Lane End itself! Whether you want to take it easy in a suspended chair, or stretch the legs exploring this part of the world, Lane End is the perfect place to do it.

Meet The Layton Family
The Pontypinna story began in 1955 for the Layton family. After selling his smaller farm, The Pentre at Painscastle, Bill Layton made the brave move to purchase Pontypinna Farm. Grandad Tom, Bill's son and one of 9 children, was 21 at the time and vividly remembered walking the sheep and cattle through Hay on Wye to reach Pontypinna. After many successful years at the farm, Grandad Tom passed on in 2015.
The farm remained in the family; Grandad Tom's daughter Jenny took on the farm and all the responsibilities that went with it. She wanted to ensure that the 180 acre farm could survive the test of rising costs, whilst also continuing to farm....and that is where the Hideaways project began!
Wildlife and the Environment
The working farm is 180 acres and above the Hideaways is private woodland owned by the Layton Family for guests to explore. All hideaways run off of a ground source heating system, which was installed by local builders.

It was wonderful. Such an incredible location, with some of the best views in Hereford right out of the cabin. Surrounded by sheep and cows and a horse and donkey. We had the best time! Check in and check out we’re so easy. Close enough to explore the local area, far enough away to feel like you’re in a rural paradise.

We arrived and it didn’t disappoint. The location, view and quality of all inside and out was outstanding. Everything from linen, appliances (although no washing machine) was perfect. We are a family of 5 and the space, bedrooms and style of the decor was great. Waking up to the stunning views every morning was a resetting for us who live busy lives. The owners communication was excellent before and during although we didn’t see them at all which made the escape even more personal. The hot tub also needs to be mentioned, as this was a perfect escape for the rainy afternoons we had just to look out and relax.
