Overview
Coming home after a stroll along the miles of footpaths that criss cross the Dorset countryside, you’ll probably meet the brightly coloured birds for which the hut is named, as well as the herds of cows that live on this rambling dairy farm. You can keep your walking boots on to reach nearby Sturminster Newton, just 20 minutes away by foot, where you can stock up on provisions for cooking on the firebowl or the less adventurous gas hobs, grab a great pub meal and perhaps buy a bottle of wine to enjoy in your private hot tub upon your return.
When you’re ready to turn in, you'll sleep peacefully knowing that even if you’re up in the night, you won’t have to venture outside thanks to the cunning, en suite bathroom. If you leave the curtains open, you can sit up in bed and watch the sunrise, before deciding on how to spend your next day in cosy, quiet rural heaven. You might meet guests staying at The Happy Hare, the hut you share the field with, but each hut has it's own privacy so you can unwind and take in all the nature around you. Coming in summer? Bring the kids who can sleep in the bell tent pitched next to the hut in July and August, so the whole family can enjoy the peace and countryside at Colber Farm.

A great stay. Perfect weather which obviously helps. Lovely shepherd's hut, v pretty, well designed and equipped. Outdoor cooking space worked well as did hot tub.
16/09/2024Charlotte
What a great location. Well equipped , comfy bed and friendly locals. The shower for a shepherd hut was the best one yet. Great hosts , left you to your own devices but on call if needed. Top marks will return. PS. Some great walks from the door but take some long trousers as the footpaths are all over grown. Have had a moan at the local council / rights of way team.
24/06/2024Graham
Quiet location, within walking distance of town. Well maintained property, good facilities with a welcoming feel.

We absolutely loved staying at the pleasant pheasant. The location was so quiet and tranquil. The shepherd's hut and hot tub were lovely and private and it was so nice to have logs provided to use the hot tub and fire pit. We were able totally relax and our dog loved it too. The shower was great and the bathroom perfect for our needs.

We had a lovely stay at the pleasant pheasant! Very peaceful and had everything we needed.

Had such a lovely weekend at Farmstead Glamping, went for long walks, read a lot, went to a local pub for a delicious lunch - was the perfect way to spend a bank holiday!

My husband and I had a lovely stay with our two dogs. It was just the break we needed. The supplies are very well thought out and Information provided by Canopy and Stars is top notch. The setting is quiet and not overlooked. You have all the amenities you should need and certain luxuries to make your stay that much more memorable. Hannah is very friendly and we were left to it for the duration of our stay. However, we knew we could contact at any time should we require anything. Relaxation was key and relaxation is what we certainly had.
20/03/2024Emily
I wanted to take my boyfriend away and immediately thought Canopy and Stars! The break delivered everything I wanted it too. We cooked on open fires, slowed down, relaxed in the hot tub, star gazed and connected. We can’t wait to re book!
15/11/2023Elizabeth
Loved staying at the Pheasant. It was a perfect, relaxing retreat for my friend and I over a weekend. It was beautifully finished and we both loved the sink. The fire in the house, and the hot tub/fire pit were our highlights.
10/11/2023Zara
Amazing location, perfect little cabin. There is nothing Hannah didn't think of. Everything is provided, from wood, marshmallows, extra blanket, bowl for the dog, bath robes... The bed is super comfy, the water pressure and temperature makes you feel like you are in a posh hotel. Hannah was available if we needed. Coming back to city life after our stay was challenging...we will be back!
29/09/2023Laura
We had the best stay ever that lasted for four nights. I proposed to my girlfriend on the first night, and the shepherds hut provided the perfect backdrop to the romantic evening.
25/09/2023Elizabeth
We had a lovely relaxing stay at The Pleasant Pheasant! We had all the information we could need before hand using he useful guide and YouTube videos. It was perfect for being in nature but with all the luxuries of having a proper bed and bathroom. It exceeded our expectations and would love to come back ☺️

Pleasent Pheasent was all that we needed for a lovely and relaxing weekend away over the summer. Hannah has everything thought of and taken care of that you could possibly need, so all you need to do is turn up! Beautiful view of the farm and a lovely cosey atmosphere.

We had a lovely time staying in the beautiful countryside of Dorset. Our hut was close to many places worth the visit, especially the quaint village of Sturminster Newton which had excellent inns and cafes which we enjoyed many a local beverage in. Everyone in the area was super polite, we felt at home there. We also enjoyed a massive 15 km walk around the area on the Sunday which took us past many historic grounds such as Sturminster Mill, Fiddleford Mill/manor, some old bridges, beautiful meadows and a wood. After all our adventures we could come back and enjoy a nice hot tub to watch the sunset over the rolling hills that were visible from our site. In the evenings we spent watching stars and comets since the light pollution there is so low, it was divine. Also, the support for local businesses there was great, many establishments housed local sourced foods, drinks, items which we thought was great, especially the local ales which were super tasty... and boozy! Lastly, we took a visit to one of the many old castles in the area called Sherbourne castle, the guides were friendly and we had a blast learning about it's old history and the history of the area we stayed in.
21/07/2023Ryan
It was everything as expected and more, we just wanted to escape from the huddle and bustle and enjoy the luxury for doing nothing
26/06/2023Natasha
We had an amazing time. The setting was really peaceful, it was nice to wake up in the morning and see the wildlife and cows out in the fields. The Shepard’s hut was very clean and had everything you needed. The shower was really nice and lovely toiletries were in the bathroom for our use. Outside there were lots of options for cooking both gas and charcoal BBQ as well as a fire pit. There was plenty of wood provided for us to use. The hot tub was amazing. We had an amazing two day break. We did not want to go home. It was a five minute drive to the nearest shops and pubs which was very friendly with excellent food.
31/05/2023Helen
I stayed at the Pleasant Pheasant for a couple of days away with our 2y old Labrador and it was perfect. The only down side was that there had been floods in the area in the days leading up, so some of the walking was very muddy and the field adjacent to the site was very marshy… but that just added to the sense of being outside in the wild (and obviously not within anyone’s control) and didn’t impact the site itself. The inside space is extremely well thought out and actually feels spacious for one person and a dog. The outside space is wonderful and it was easy to cook. I didn’t use the hot tub, but that was a nice touch. The views from the site are great and I could sit there all day watching nature and the distant herds of cows grazing. The check in and out procedure was very well sign-posted and accessible, as was the whole site brochure that Hannah makes available before the stay for saving and offline use (although I got ok 4g on site in the end). Overall, as C&S goes, it doesn’t get much better than the Pleasant Pheasant.
10/05/2023Mat
I really quiet and peaceful location, surrounded by nature. The pleasant pheasant was very clean at everything needed for a perfect stay.
03/05/2023Ross
We had a very relaxing long weekend away staying at the Pleasant Pheasant. We loved the wood fired hot tub and the cosy little cabin.
28/04/2023Donna
We stayed at The Pleasant Pheasant for our one year anniversary. We stayed for 2 nights, and chose the location as it was close to some of Dorsets tourist attractions, whilst being far enough away to enjoy the scenery in the quiet.
05/12/2022Georgia
Wow, the pleasant pheasant gave us the opportunity to unwind from our busy working lives with everything you require to live off grid for a few days. Hannah and the team afforded us the luxuries and privacy we needed to chill, cook on the open fire and relax in the wood fired hot tub. Our stay achieved everything we needed and would definitely recommend to friends and family looking to stay in the area. Also wanna take the time not only to big up farmstead glamping but also one of the pubs recommended to us "The White Hart Alehouse" lovely little pub, serving a wonderful pint of London black, offering a lovely menu and greeted by a pack of beagles that welcomed our own into their fold. Thank you sam and mat for your hospitality. To sum up our stay absolutely amazing.
07/11/2022Luke
What an amazing stay at The Pleasant Pheasant. Perfect in every way, very cosy and very well equipped. The location is ideal to explore South England. Hannah was great with communication and a great host. And what a great touch with the choice of food hampers; The Dorset Breakfast hamper was super. We will be sure to book again and tell our freinds to stay!
02/11/2022Jack
Excellent - the site is beautiful with lots of walks nearby and a short walk to the town. They have thought of everything and there are lots of nice touches. Very clean, lovely wood fired hot tub and comfortable bed.
26/10/2022Katy
A truly magical place, everything was thought of, so the hut is well equipped and comfortable. I loved it
07/10/2022Sara
The dogs and I absolutely loved our stay at the Pleasant Pheasant. It was everything I hoped that it would be. There were plenty of well thought out touches such as a radio, lovely plates and mugs, gorgeous robes and thick fluffy towels. The walks surrounding the shepherd's hut were lovely and Hannah was really helpful with guides, etc. I really loved the hot tub and the range of cooking facilities was great. I can't fault anything and I'll definately be recommending it to friends.
16/09/2022Alex
Very enjoyable!!! Very easy to find, everything we needed plus little extra touches such as fresh flowers and local sourced snacks. Hannah has put a lot of thought into making her guests very comfortable and sharing information in the virtual handbook is a great idea!
11/04/2022Sandra
Super cosy and quiet shepherds hut that was great for outdoor cooking and our dog! Excellent to live off grid.
02/04/2022Robyn
A very cosy and delightful place to go and get some well earned rest! It’s pretty and the surroundings are beautiful. Even saw 2 deer in a near by field frolicking in the morning sun. Everything was there that we needed ie tea towels, bath towels, dressing gowns, fabulous comfortable bed, kettle and all the usual amenities. Hannah is a credit to making a stay perfect! The wood burning stove inside made it tropical and the fire pit outside was brilliant. I don’t have any negative comments at all and the shower was great.
28/03/2022Kath
Was easily the best glamping holiday we've had, the hut was lovely and the scenery was amazing and all the small touches just topped it off. Definitely would recommend!
21/03/2022Dean
A lovely cosy little bolt hole to stay in. Very peaceful and beautiful setting. We had the pleasure of the company of a few deer, pheasants (obvs!) and owls. Very well equipped and the fire pit was thoroughly used. And as for the hot tub/bath - what a treat to sit in - under the stars, fire going nearby, with a glass of wine to hand! Shame we didn’t stay longer.
16/03/2022Kay
We booked this last minute (the day before!) as we were supposed to be in Barcelona but couldn’t go last minute. We stayed for two nights which was the perfect amount of time. It was extremely comfortable and cosy, the hot tub was perfect for a mild March evening. We mostly spent our time at the sight but went on a walk along the river which was lovely and to one of the local pubs. We loved everything about our stay!
02/03/2022Lucy
We had an amazing time at The Pleasant Pheasant. The cabin was situated in a stunning farm location with beautiful views. It was cosy and warm once the log burner was lit. The kitchen facilities were more than suitable for a short stay. The bed was beautifully comfortable and bigger than it first appeared. Beautiful toiletries provided, towels and robes all included. Even some marshmallows! All in all a wonderful stay.
04/02/2022Amber
I had the most heavenly stay at the Pleasant Pheasant. The perfect two night trip for one (plus a little dog) in a beautiful and incredibly thoughtfully designed hut in stunning countryside. I was very sad to leave but will be back in a heartbeat!
19/01/2022Clementine
The Pleasant Pheasant was perfect- during your stay you truly feel at one with nature and the great outdoors. There is the perfect combination of luxury (hot running water, comfortable bedding) and pure eco-living (beautiful fire pit with all appropriate cookware to cook up a feast). When you arrive you do not need to drive anywhere providing you have good outdoor gear to tackle the local walking tracks. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that needs a recharge in a beautiful location and is looking for some off grid time.

I booked to stay at the pleasant pheasant for my partners birthday. Not only his birthday but for the past 2 years he has been my life saviour, during the loss of my mother and the continued cancer diagnosis and treatment of my father. But little did I know that he had been corresponding with the owners to create a moment I will never forget and he proposed to me on our first evening. We enjoyed the outside bath tub, and loved the quirkiness of the sheoards hut. One of our favourites was waking up to the cows as we are very outdoors people. We also recieved a cheese hamper and a breakfast hamper. Those sausages....oh my god!! It was the most beautiful location, perfect set up and we loved every moment.
02/11/2020Rosie
We had the most tranquil escape to the gorgeous pleasant pheasant. The peace and quiet was unreal, we could of stared at the views for weeks, we had everything we needed!
30/10/2020Rachael
Me and my partner had a very pleasant stay at farmstead glamping. We thoroughly enjoyed the warm open fire as well as the hot tub. The views and surroundings were delightful as well as the cosy cabin. Our hosts were on hand if we needed them and checked in to see if we needed anything else for our stay.
26/10/2020Keeleigh
Stayed for four nights, beginning of October. Lovely shepherds hut with all amenities as required, needed to use the log burner and outside fire pit as weather not as warm as it was, so especially cosy. Food provided was absolutely perfect.
30/09/2020Leigh
Wonderful and relaxing spot with perfect hosts. Needed to unwind and this break did the job. Love the views from our hut and cooking food over the fire pit. Great base to explore from. We visited Durdle Door, Pool & Corfe Castle. The wood fired hot tub was a real treat after a day of walking.
25/09/2020Emma
We absoluelty loved it, the shepherds hut was beautiful and everything was so well thought out. 06/12/2019Rachel
We booked The Pleasant Pheasant to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we had an amazing time!
08/11/2019Tania
Despite the rain and wind, we had a wonderful stay. The shepherd's hut was very cosy. I loved the decor and the kitchenette. The food hampers were plentiful and very tasty. The outdoor facilities looked great, just a pity we couldn't use them because of the pouring rain. I did get up at 2am on the second night when the clouds finally cleared and admired the most amazing night sky. The surroundings are dark enough to get a great view of the milky way, not to mention masses of other stars.
30/09/2019Sylvia
Perfect and lovely. Hannah was a great host. food was so yummy
06/09/2019Harriet
It was a lovely stay! The hut was clean and well resourced. We were looked after well by the staff at Colber farm. We would highly recommend!

We had the most relaxing break ever, the hut was very well thought out and the bed extremely comfortable, all the little touches flowers marshmallows tea coffee hot chocolate and we had ordered a breakfast hamper which was delicious. Lovely welcome from Hannah with a plate of homemade scones cream and jam, we cooked on the firepit and used the hot tub every day that was a wonderful experience relaxing with a glass of wine watching a wonderful sunset, all round great experience.

It was more than expected! The hut was self contained and relaxing, the owners didn’t over involve but assisted when asked, area was beautiful, location was discreet.
08/07/2019Stuart
We had such a wonderful time. The location was idyllic and so peaceful, it was so nice spending a few days relaxing in the countryside. The hosts were amazing and thought of all the small touches to make our stay memorable.
06/05/2019Vicky
We had a wonderful couple of days at the Pleasant Pheasant, made good use of the hot tub and the fire pit for cooking. Local shops and a pub with great good a 20 minute walk away. We went on a lovely 5 mile walk which showed off the local area. At the same time felt very private and romantic. Location on a working farm so smells were expected and didn't bother us. Heard beautiful birdsong and a fab view from the window. Even had a phesant visit us at the hut. Lovely little touches made are stay extra special such as tea, coffee, bathroom smellies and comfty bed. Couldn't find any fault with our stay.
17/04/2019Rachel
This was a really wonderful place, with everything we needed for a relaxing and cozy stay. The hot tub is amazing, and the view over the fields in the morning just perfect.

We had a very pleasant stay. All was as described. Very helpful owners providing lots of useful information prior to arrival. Very enjoyable food hampers.
24/10/2018Gemma
4 night stay as a 'get away from it all. Had everything we wanted, secluded, quiet, in the countryside, etc. Pleasant Pheasant was immaculate and everything was as described. Bed was very comfortable, but was cosy and warm even without log burner being used. Perfect.
08/10/2018Richard
We had an amazing time at Pleasant Pheasant. Loved every moment. The hut is as perfect as it looks in the pictures!
06/08/2018Robert
We spent three nights at the Pleasant Pheasant which was well equipped and had lovely open country views. We had a young dog and it was quite difficult having to tether him as he constantly got caught up in the things around the hut. However, we understood that we were on a working farm and it was important to keep him under control. Next time we would not take the dog. Hannah was very helpful with information and she gave us a lovely welcome with homemade scones jam and cream!
20/07/2018Susan
We had a fantastic stay at the Pleasant Pheasant, the hut was so cute and cosy. We absolutely loved the hot tub and the fire pit, we used them every day. We were very lucky to have glorious weather and enjoyed exploring the beaches on the Jurassic coast and watching the beautiful sunsets from the hot tub.
22/06/2018Claire
It was great. The shepherd's hut was fully equipped with everything you could need and it was a pleasure to stay in for a few nights. Hannah, the proprietor was very helpful, bringing milk, scones and jam on our arrival. The firepit and hot tub were superb additions which we used to the full.

06/04/2018Vikki
We had an amazing time at the Pleasant Pheasant, it was really relaxing and cosy!
16/02/2018Louise
We went for a long weekend over my birthday. It was a well needed break from home! The perfect setting to get away from it all. We explored some nearby towns - the locals were lovely, we even managed to have a BBQ in January!
27/01/2018Heidi
This place is truly magical! 2 nights was not long enough! Hannah is an amazing host and made us feel right at home. The hut is fantastic it has everything you need for a comfortable stay, the little homely touches really make this place. The British weather lived up to its name, but this didn't ruin our stay. We loved staying in with the burner goin with a glass of wine playing the board games provided. We can't wait to return. Thank you Hannah and family!
15/01/2018Michelle
The stay was absolutely magical! The hot tub under the stars was surreal. The hut itself, spotless and incredibly homely. All the small features and details were so lovely. Host was amazing. Fire made the hut very warm, but it was well insulated itself anyway! Couldn't reccomend anymore
15/12/2017Alanna
Fantastic location. Lovely accomodation. Owners were very friendly and welcoming. We loved the hot tub under the stars. Completely magical weekend couldn't fault it.
03/11/2017Hannah
Had a fabulous stay with our dog Anna . Lovely walks on the doorstep despite storm Brian. The hut was fully equipted for all our needs. Lovely scones on arrival. Hannah the host was very helpful and friendly despite been in labour on our arrival. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Look forward to going again. Best wishes Sharon Andy and Anna the dog.
20/10/2017Sharon
Perfect weekend away, we loved everything about it.
21/09/2017Lucy
we had a fantastic stay at the Pleasant Pheasant. A lovely hut, and Hannah our host had given it some really thoughtful touches to help us feel at home. The scones and cream on arrival were delicious. Once the hot tub was warm it was really pleasant enjoying the view with a glass of bubbles. Great location and had everything we needed for a really relaxing break.
03/09/2017steven
We had an amazing time at the pleasant pheasant! It was so peaceful and restful. The hut was great, an ingenious use of space. Welcome scones we're to die for and we got the Dorset hamper which was full of fresh goodies from local farms...it was well worth it! Our favourite thing was relaxing in the hot tub under he stars and cosying up with hot chocolate with the log burner crackling away. We will definitely be back and definitely reccomend this gorgeous place to others. Hannah was lovely, welcoming and very hospitable.
28/08/2017Francesca
Our stay was spectacular, home made scones and cream tea on arrival. Lovely host, made to feel very welcome. Lovely walks in the country!
21/07/2017Jade
Bliss!! A very warm welcome, some fab touches in the hut and a location to die for. The hot tub was truly something else.
20/07/2017Katey
Simply a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Friendly and welcoming hosts, small but very complete hut with countless perfect touches, secluded location, beautiful view across the fields from both hut and hottub. A very enjoyable weekend away.
09/07/2017Adrian
Lovely weekend away with my partner and spaniel. Couldn't fault it but you need to be organised at the hut is small but perfectly formed
16/06/2017Diana
Sitting in the hot tub, with views across the fields and the sun shining down was absolute bliss. This really is a peaceful spot surround by countryside. You're on a working farm so expect to see the cows come in and out and hear the odd peacock in the distance, but this just added to the experience! We took full advantage of the fire bowl and outdoor cooking, and were grateful for a private hot shower after a long walk in the wood. There is a pub and local shops within walking distance through the fields, and the hut has everything you need to just sit back with a book and relax.

Absolutely loved our stay here - perfectly appointed shepherd’s hut hidden away but accessible enough for my partner who is physically disabled. It felt so private and cosy- and great that we could take our 2 small dogs - so many of these places only allow one. We went in February so it was cold out and this gave us the perfect excuse to light the log burner and not do very much other than enjoy the peace, cook some lovely meals and read a book! There is plenty to do close by though if you are feeling more adventurous! Will definitely be back.. highly recommend

The stay was simply amazing !! It was perfect to be embraced by nature and we would recommend having a break here to anyone :)

Amazing time at the Pleasant Pheasant, great communication beforehand. Well signposted and taken good care off. Its a beautiful little place, we loved our stay and there are some lovely walks and villages in the area

Loved staying at the Pheasant. It was a perfect, relaxing retreat for my friend and I over a weekend. It was beautifully finished and we both loved the sink. The fire in the house, and the hot tub/fire pit were our highlights.

4 night stay as a 'get away from it all. Had everything we wanted, secluded, quiet, in the countryside, etc. Pleasant Pheasant was immaculate and everything was as described. Bed was very comfortable, but was cosy and warm even without log burner being used. Perfect.

We had an amazing time at Pleasant Pheasant. Loved every moment. The hut is as perfect as it looks in the pictures!

It was great. The shepherd's hut was fully equipped with everything you could need and it was a pleasure to stay in for a few nights. Hannah, the proprietor was very helpful, bringing milk, scones and jam on our arrival. The firepit and hot tub were superb additions which we used to the full.

We went for a long weekend over my birthday. It was a well needed break from home! The perfect setting to get away from it all. We explored some nearby towns - the locals were lovely, we even managed to have a BBQ in January!

The stay was absolutely magical! The hot tub under the stars was surreal. The hut itself, spotless and incredibly homely. All the small features and details were so lovely. Host was amazing. Fire made the hut very warm, but it was well insulated itself anyway! Couldn't reccomend anymore

we had a fantastic stay at the Pleasant Pheasant.

Simply a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Friendly and welcoming hosts, small but very complete hut with countless perfect touches, secluded location, beautiful view across the fields from both hut and hottub. A very enjoyable weekend away.
