Overview
Nothing makes a Lake District visit better than having somewhere really special to come home to when you’re done exploring for the day. Merlin is definitely that somewhere. The cabin sits in a private clearing of the woods at Edenhall, with its mountain location meaning wonderful views of the surrounding hills and forests. The cabin has been carefully crafted by owner Mark and his team to make your life flow frictionlessly from indoors to out, with the big sofa and wood burner for chilly nights, the BBQ for sunny afternoons and the hot tub for any time at all. Your loo and shower are in cool shacks a couple of metres away. Merlin shares the wood, but no facilities, with two other cabins, Forest and Romy, and the three make a great group space if booked together.
With the Lake District on your doorstep, it’s hard to imagine going anywhere else, but the wildlife and woodland of the estate itself offer some lovely walks, most of can happily be made to end at very nice pubs. Only a mile or so away you’ll find The Shepherds Inn with a large green outside that’s a pleasure when the weather’s good, while a bit more of a hike (about six and a half miles) takes you to The Crown in Kirkoswald, a family-run place where a Cumbrian of Italian descent makes great pub food and Sunday roasts, but every night is pizza night. When you’re done with a day of mint cake and mountains, or pints and pizza, the hot tub is right there waiting and, if the sky is clear, staring at the stars above as you steam makes a perfect finale.

“Whene'er this cup shall break or fall, farewell the luck of Eden Hall.”
These are the ominous words uttered to the first butler of Edenhall as he stole the celebrated drinking glass called The Luck of Eden Hall from a company of fairies and refused to return it. The original hall is gone, demolished in 1934, but the impressive gate house remains. The cup, on the other hand, is still preserved to this day in The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, lest disaster befalls those that stay at Edenhall to this day.
Edenhall Estate is a much loved family home which has been in the Holden-Hindley family for four generations. Throughout that time each of them have shared a core set of family values but a timely vision for the future of this remarkable place. Edenhall is unique for many reasons, not least of all it's position in the heart of the Eden Valley. Bordered by the Rivers Eden and Eamont and nestled only minutes from both the renowned Lake District and the Pennine Fells, the sights of which surround us throughout the seasons.
Farming and sporting pursuits have remained at the core of Eden Hall throughout history and still do today. They’ve also been hard at work lovingly restoring a host of boutique accommodation available to hire, each place renovated with design and purpose at their core.
Wildlife & Environment
As well as the Lake District being nearby, the estate itself is home to deer as well as plenty of other wildlife and salmon and brown trout abound in the rivers and pools all around.

We had a great stay at Merlin, The Lost Cabins. We wanted a trip that would help us unwind and spend time in nature with our young baby, and this spot certainly helped us do that.

Amazing! The host was helpful and the location is great!

We only had a two day stay and wish it could have been a lot longer. The cabin was perfectly remote and tranquil but close enough to amenities and activities also. The cabin itself was perfect for two and had a wonderful view into the trees and across the fields. The bed and sofa were very comfy and stove heated the cabin really easily. The shower and toilets were very good quality (better than some hotels), it really didn’t feel like a chore going outside to use them. There were lots of choices of places to sit outside and the huge double doors gave great views from inside. The area was also very well kept with good lighting and staff dropping off the logs was very friendly. Would love to return and wish we were still there!

This was our second visit to the lost cabins and definitely didn’t disappoint. The cabin is perfectly decked out with everything you need for a cosy break away! It is very private which is lovely. Spacious inside and out! There was so much wildlife to enjoy while in the wood fired hot tub. And even better this time we came it has a flushing toilet. Love it here! Will definitely come back again

Perfect little getaway. Staff were so friendly. Even heated up the hot tub prior to us arriving. Will definitely be returning in the summer to see the summer views too from the cabin. All facilities were top end, clean.

There's only one word to describe this place...magical! We could not fault it, the cabin itself was beautiful and spotless, and the outside was even more amazing. We were surrounded by gorgeous woodland (and we even spotted a deer run past through the trees!). We used the hot tub both evenings which was so lovely after a day of walking, and then went inside and played games by the fire. Everything about this place is perfect and I could not recommend it enough. We will definitely be back!

Couldn't have asked for more, beautiful location, everything worked, everything clean, everything provided. Children and dog friendly. It was just a great experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I was looking for a place, secluded, within nature and quiet and peaceful and boy did this place deliver. Based on a lovely wooded area you really do feel away from it all. With just sounds of nature occupying your ears. There are 2 other lodges close by but I didn’t see anyone there the whole time. There’s a wood burner hot tub that initially frustrated me as it took me 6 hours to heat up so equated to a late night. However for the rest of the 4 nights I stayed the water retains most of the heat and I could get it a lovely hot temperature within a couple of hours. Also keeping the fires going was actually a lot of fun. Marshmallows on the fire, bbqs, making the cabin cosy with the wood burner heater and cooking facilities to cook dinner each evening, a fridge to keep my beer cold. Happy days. Bed was comfy although was weary there was no barrier however didn’t cause me an issue. There’s not a whole lot I’d change. No WiFi there adding to the nature experience but data close by outside if desperately required. Well lit outside no need for lamps. Shower facility’s when figured out was lovely. And all round lovely peaceful solitude and tranquil experience would go again.

I chose Merlin due to it's location in the woods. I wanted a break where we could get away from it all and relax. The accommodation is dog friendly which definitely swung it for us plus the added bonus of the hot tub. Really enjoyed our stay. Just wish we could of stayed longer.

We had an amazing time off grid. This was the first time we’ve done anything like this. The perfect blend of creature comforts but still glamping

We had a great stay at Merlin, The Lost Cabins. We wanted a trip that would help us unwind and spend time in nature with our young baby, and this spot certainly helped us do that.

The most magical stay, the cabin was beautiful. We had so much privacy to enjoy the facilities. The R&R was much needed! Thank you
