Overview
If you were driving past the Gargunnock Hills in Scotland, you’d think, ‘oh how I’d like to sit back and look out over them for a while’. Which is exactly what the owners at Siskin thought, coincidentally. With its large deck facing out over the foothills, and nothing to see but the hills, and open countryside – it’s the perfect spot to BBQ on the Weber, or sit with a sundowner.
You’d be happy enough outside, so to discover a full, well designed, spacious and luxurious interior within – is quite the treat. There’s space enough for six – and they’ll be very grateful for the invite. The inside’s awash with Scandi tones, airy and easy to sprawl out in, whether you’re taking a moment to enjoy reclining in the outdoor bath or just snuggling up by the wood burner for an evening in.
You might have designs on doing simply nothing, and if ever there was a place to do it, it might well be here. But if exploration’s your heart’s desire, the Scottish wild’s on your doorstep to adventure in, with miles of unspoilt nature all around.

Meet your hosts
Meet Louisa and Simon
Having established The Treehouses at Lanrick, the owners were keen to expand on their offerings in a different location. They listened to the feedback and decided to build two two-bedroom treehouses which would make travelling with a family much easier.
Simon has run his own design and build business in central London for many years and has always been looking for new opportunities to use his skillset. Having grown up in Inverness-shire, Louisa has always loved the Scottish outdoors and she fell in love with this area as soon as she laid eyes on it. With seven years' experience working as an African tour operator and having the opportunity to visit incredible camps and lodges all over the African continent, Louisa has a real eye for detail and exceptionally high standards.
Wildlife & environment
The plan for Leckie estate was to honour the land's unique situation while enhancing its amenity, biodiversity and ability to sequester carbon from the atmosphere.
They were built largely using timber sourced on the estate, keeping the carbon footprint low. Airtight construction, heat pumps and wood burning stoves keep the output to a minimum.
Native tree seed from Leckie has been collected by the Akre team and grown in their carbon-negative tree nursery in Fife. The seedlings are being planted across the marginal grazing land in the northern part of the estate to promote biodiversity and sequester carbon. Naturally regenerating woodland across the moorland and escarpment has been stimulated by the removal of grazing animals. Barn owl boxes have been dotted around the woodlands of Leckie, alongside wild beehives. A large rhododendron removal project was undertaken in 2021 to allow the understorey of the ancient woodland to naturally regenerate.
The family from the neighbouring farm have run their pigs through Spittlalton Wood to break down the bracken and allow the woodland flora to grow. We have Galloway cows and a bull who are their habitat engineers. They are essential to adapting wetland and woodland areas as they cycle nutrients and create microhabitats.
