Overview
The owners of Solstice Yurt bought their farm almost entirely because of the views. Plus it was a handy place to keep all the horses. Whether you’ve got your own steed to stable or not, the sight of the valley below you is breathtaking and you could sit and admire it all day, whether from the sunken fire pit, the Nissen hut kitchen, or the “hot trough” – a hot tub (which can take up to 8 hours to heat up). This is a unique stone affair, made from a (thoroughly scrubbed) cattle trough and a wood burner, with plenty of space to soak and stretch out.
Inside, there’s more good lounging to be had on the sofa and the king-size bed, with the cool, simple space of the yurt, or the hammock under the shade of the trees calling you to long afternoon naps. Should you resist, then there’s plenty nearby to do with your energy, from a visit to Stonehenge, from which the yurt tangentially takes its name, to the more modern pursuit of mountain biking on Salisbury Plain.

Meet your hosts
Meet Frank and Lou
Frank and Lou purchased Scotland Lodge Farm in 2014. They purchased the property due to the magnificent views from the farm of the Wiltshire countryside. The farm combines Lou’s passion for horses with Frank’s love of sheep; you will see plenty of both animals on Scotland Lodge Farm.
The site was initially constructed for private use but following the reaction of visits from family and friends, Lou and Frank were very quickly persuaded to advertise for short breaks and holidays.
Wildlife & the environment
You will be able to enjoy the full spectrum of wildlife that Wiltshire has to offer; the sighting of buzzards and red kites is commonplace. If you are observant, you may be able to observe the beautiful Stonechat and at dusk you may be able to spot up to 5 species of bat (Soprano pipistrelle, Common pipistrelle, Serotine, Myotis and Brown long-eared bat). As you will be on a lively farm directly opposite a nature reserve, you will be surrounded by horses and sheep and be able to spot badgers, foxes, deer and rabbits.

Our guests say...
Kira
We had the most incredible stay at the Solstice Yurt. Our only regret is not booking it for longer! Every detail has been thought of, and the setup means you have access to your lovely kitchen and bathroom, without needing any power or feeling the need to use your phone. It is absolute bliss. I couldn't recommend this more as a place to have a digital detox. Frank was an extremely welcoming and accommodating host, and we had a lovely time exploring the farm surrounding the yurt, as well as a couple of the local villages and farm shops on foot. The reclaimed hot tub is an absolutely incredible thing to have access to – if you love cold water swimming, you'll be able to use it cold and hot like we did! But it gets very warm after stoking it, so if you don't like cold water, you'll love it too! We would absolutely love to return one day, and at the end of our stay, my partner and I both agreed we couldn't fault one thing about the whole experience.

Absolutely top notch all round - a haven of peace with every need catered for in advance and superb hosts...a highly recommended getaway.

The Solstice Yurt was everything we had hoped for and more! We well and truly hit the reset button. Our 2 girls aged 8 and 3 loved every minute and the Trough hit tub was an absolute hit! Frank and his family were very friendly and welcoming, hope to come back again soon! Thank you!

What a lovely, relaxing space with a great view. We were blessed with superb weather and enjoyed watching the world go by for a couple of days. The hot trough was worth the wait to warm up and due to the hot weather, we enjoyed it cool during the day as well. Thanks for a great stay, everything we needed and highly recommended.
29/07/2024Helen
We’ve had the most tranquil stay ever. The view was like looking at a changing painting throughout the day. All necessary things were provided for.
24/07/2024Elin
An outstanding experience in a beautiful and unique setting.
17/07/2024Simon
We had an amazing time. The yurt was spacious and comfortable. The views were stunning and the hot trough was lovely.
12/07/2024Tim
Absolutely magical! My husband, 5 year old son and I stayed at Solstice Yurt and we loved every minute. The Yurt itself is beautiful - well furnished, the beds were mega comfy and the log burner made it super cosy in the evenings. The kitchen / bathroom hut were very well equipped and spotlessly clean. We loved the fire-pit and had great fun toasting marshmallows in the evening! We even tried out the hot trough although it was a little late by the time it was ready so it was pitch black - it didn’t stop us enjoying it though! The whole setting is stunning and very private - the views are sensational and we really enjoyed strolling around the farm and looking at the horses. Frank and Lou were around if we needed anything, although we didn’t as everything had been so well prepared for us. They’ve clearly put a lot of thought and love into site and have thought of everything. Thanks for such a wonderful stay - it was a perfect getaway from city life for a couple of days. I just wish we could’ve stayed longer!
10/04/2024Natasha
Unforgettable experience. Absolutely incredible setting. Hosts were super helpful and nice. Everything we needed, yet it still felt like we were off grid and living in nature.
08/04/2024Lucy
Very friendly hosts, our stay was perfect, the yurt was warm, comfortable and perfect for giving us a holiday to remember.
03/04/2024Frances
Staying at the yurt was absolutely magical. With the weather being a bit sketchy we stayed mainly round the farm and it was so peaceful! Couldn’t get enough of the hot trough and how pretty it was!
18/10/2023Catherine
What a wonderful stay we had at Scotland Farm in the Solistice Yurt! Such a beautiful, secluded place with the most stunning views. The yurt was comfy and clean, with lots of space inside. The hot trough was a special treat, the kids loved it. Swings, hammocks, fire pit at night. Lovely kitchen, which is under shelter which was brilliant if it rained. Frank was always around to help, fab host! Kids didn’t want to leave, so we will be back I’m sure! Thank you!
26/07/2023Faye
We loved our anniversary stay in the yurt. Everything was perfect - parking the car right in front of the yurt was super convenient, hot water in the shower, a comfy big bed, amazing view of open fields, smart finishings, beautiful wildflowers, no one disturbing us! Picturesque and calming.
24/07/2023T
Lovely comfortable stay, everything there we needed. Far away from any distractions but close enough to pop to a shop if needed. Would definitely return, thankyou so much

We had a fantastic time. We were very lucky with the weather as it was sunny the whole time which helps when Glamping! The facilities were excellent and the views and the surrounding countryside were beautiful, so nice in fact we only left the site to get more food! The site itself is completely private and and very peaceful.
26/05/2023Miranda
A wonderful place nestled into the trees overlooking the fabulous rolling uninterrupted landscape. The yurt and facilities are great, everything you need is there and it was very clean. We enjoyed spending one afternoon lazing around getting the hot trough fired up, the fire pit and the yurt fire whilst eating supper and taking the views in. It’s a great location minutes from Stonehenge and a little further to Salisbury. Staying in a yurt for us was a first and we would definitely come back.
01/05/2023Emma
We had a wonderful stay at the Yurt! We were scared it would be cold inside at night but it was very cozy even in the moments it was raining. Frank and Lou were extraordinary hosts - really went above and beyond to make us feel at home and get the most out of our stay. We were really lucky that the weather was amazing for most of our stay, but really couldn’t have asked for a better long weekend!

A great 4 night stay, lovely yurt, well decorated and thought out. Comfy bed with extra blankets etc for the cold autumn nights. Lovely fire pit/bbq area and cool hot tub to sit in all night watching the stars!

Fantastic time! First time staying in a yurt, definitely won't be the last, the whole experience was amazing. The yurt was beautiful and quirky, from the woodburner to the little touches of local books and old map of area in the wall. So peaceful with stunning valley views from the many seating areas and hot trough! We loved the Nissan hut kitchen, the sunken seating/bbq/fire pit area, very dog friendly as well. So nice to switch of from life for a few days. Lots of walks from the doorstep, plenty of nature,The host Frank is wonderful, warm and welcoming, very knowledgeable and helpful. There is nothing better than resting inside a hot tub (or hot trough even!!!) and watch the sunset with an spectacular view of the country side. After that truly amazing experience, have a powerful shower and sleep in a very comfortable bed in the yurt. In the morning wake up with the birds and watch goats walking around the field. Get your tea and go see the horses in the field full of bright yellow buttercups!! What a great weekend that was...
