Overview
Forget all you know about how a cabin is shaped. Cast aside your notions of right angles and submit to the pleasure of curves. Inside the cabin is a spacious living space for breezing room to room, savouring downtime. Breakfast is had after waking up and padding through the morning light pouring through the bifold doors that stretch the length of the building. You could take to the terrace, and eat al fresco, with views of the Black Mountains in the distance and the morning birdsong. And making plans for the day will be seriously hindered by eyeing the suspended chairs, the electric hot tub or the firepit for when the sun goes down after a day of leisure.
Just 11 miles away from Hereford, you’re perfectly placed at the Anglo-Welsh border for adventure or leisure. You could take a day trip out to Hereford for all the city has to offer, or head into Wales for a tour of Hay-on-Wye, perusing the bookshops, strolling the markets or renting canoes for voyages down river. The Cat’s Back hikes, or the winding paths of the Black Mountains might call your name, and they don’t have to shout loudly, at just ten or so miles away. When the day’s end comes to a close, you’ll be found back at the cabin, gathered at the table, the firepit, or looking skyward at the night sky lit up.

Meet The Layton Family
The Pontypinna story began in 1955 for the Layton family. After selling his smaller farm, The Pentre at Painscastle, Bill Layton made the brave move to purchase Pontypinna Farm. Grandad Tom, Bill's son and one of 9 children, was 21 at the time and vividly remembered walking the sheep and cattle through Hay on Wye to reach Pontypinna. After many successful years at the farm, Grandad Tom passed on in 2015.
The farm remained in the family; Grandad Tom's daughter Jenny took on the farm and all the responsibilities that went with it. She wanted to ensure that the 180 acre farm could survive the test of rising costs, whilst also continuing to farm....and that is where the Hideaways project began!
Wildlife and the Environment
The working farm is 180 acres and above the Hideaways is private woodland owned by the Layton Family for guests to explore. All hideaways run off of a ground source heating system, which was installed by local builders.

Absolutely gorgeous accommodation! All the details have been thought through with precision, so everything you need is right there. We had the most comfortable and enjoyable stay with our toddler and border collie. The views are also incredible. It's such a peaceful setting watching and listen to all the nature that surrounds you. There are amenities within close distance from pubs to shops to excursions for all the family - such a great place for a getaway. Thank you to the Hideaways team for keeping us updated with everything we needed and ultimately providing us with such a beautiful half term holiday, we loved every minute! Highly recommend :)

We had a fantastic stay at Top Orchard. The accommodation is excellent with great facilities and gorgeous views. We made good use of the hot tub (what a luxury!) and the fire pit (there are facilities for outdoor cooking). The countryside was perfect for walks with the dogs and the peace and quiet was the perfect antidote to our usual city life. There are lots places to visit nearby or you can just relax and enjoy being in the country. Jess is super friendly and helpful both pre-arrival and while we were there. The welcome box of local goodies and essentials like bread, butter and milk was most welcome too. We'd love to come back in the future.

We stayed as a group of friends and our dogs over the Easter bank holiday weekend. We wanted a few days in the countryside to celebrate 30th birthdays as a group, to enjoy walks during the days and wind down with a hot tub in the evenings. During our stay we were lucky enough to be blessed with spring sunshine, enabling us to have a barbecue over the fire pit on one of the evenings, and making us smile when waking up to the sheep every morning. We appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, and the box of eggs, milk, bread, butter (and a chocolate egg for Easter!) which was left for us on our arrival.
